    I really hope DayZ get some backlash from this. I don't even have faith that they will fix this mess... And if they do how long will it take? Another year? 2 years? We have already given them money for the product. I doubt that many will buy it untill they hear positive stuff about it. Question is will they bother to fix their shit and maybe some more people will buy the game or will they just move on and not waste anymore money?

    Nah thats not that the reviewers really say. They usually mention the great player interactions and the atmospheric world. But also point out its massive bugs, broken zombies etc. Think PC Gamer summerized it quite well: "Occasionally, in small doses, DayZ is one of the best multiplayer games on PC. But a lot of the time it’s a slow, dull, frustrating, and meandering mess of bugs, broken zombie AI, and weightless combat. So I don’t know what to think, really. Some of the stories this game has created will stick with me forever, and that’s something to be celebrated. But it’s also unforgiving, messy, and doesn’t have much respect for your time. If you want a social survival experience that doesn’t pull any punches, set in an evocative and atmospheric world, then DayZ might be worth investigating. But if you’re after a solid, polished game that always does what it’s supposed to, you’re going to be disappointed."

    But if the reviews came praising DayZ, "The long wait for DayZ was worth it" "Best survival game ever" etc.. Now when DayZ is getting mediocre scores at best, I can understand why some just think the reviews are shit. But to be honest. Did you really expect anything else? Do you really think DayZ deserves more then a 6/10 in its current state? I don't. DayZ has moments where I can rate it a 10 or a 9. But it also have broken ass-stuff that makes it feel like a 2. Loads of bugs, zombie interactions are one of the worst I have ever seen, horrible melee combat, some of the survival aspects don't even exist, Lacks alot of content etc... This game is still an Alpha. Some stuff is so flawed and poorly crafted that I can't give it more then a 6/10. DayZ still has something special but It could be soo much better.

  6. I haven't played 1.0, but thought I should try ut out a quicky before I go on holiday. But the server browser took like 10 mins to load the unofficial servers and the background sound broke on and off every 5 secs. Could not do anything while it loaded. Once I get in on a server I realized I wanted something else.... Another 10 min waiting... -.- Seriously... Only BiS would actually manage to replace something semi bad with something worse. My friend had exact same issue, seriously hope it was just a temporarily thing. We both have 100mbit internet and live in Western EU. Also think its a shitty design to not be able to scroll in a server browser. Why?why can't anything be done right? DayZ is just filled with weirdly designed stuff that barly works. Why isn't stuff working in a game that that has been development for six goddamn years? Gah... Anyhow. Merry Christmas!
  7. I did nothing, I only picked unofficial servers. Dunno maybe its a temporarily issue, haven't tried it since then. Still if you have to do some kind of workaround, then there is something wrong. I have seen many server browsers in my days, but never needed to wait 10 mins to pick a server. So yeah, shame on you BiS!

    I'm not surprised over the reviews, i bet the devs knew this was coming. I love parts of DayZ but just hate how unfinished it still is. But I love that they can't use the alpha excuse anymore. 1.0 should feel like a full game, or atleast far better then this... Six years and this is what we got... I think in best case so few care about DayZ anymore, that it won't get a massive backlash like Fallout 76 or other dissapointments. Question is will the devs try to fix it, or will they move on? Man what a massive dissapointment DayZ and Bis is...

    I can only agree... It has some awsome moments.... But what IF... What if it was actually working properly? You know... Kinda like a finished game? Yeah I know... Crazy thought. But imagine how good it would be then.

    I keep comming back to DayZ but it never feels finished enough. Im gonna leave it for a month and play some Path of exile instead. Hopefully its less of a mess thenit is now... But if if I know BiS... Another year is probably needed.

    BI Needs to Postpone 1.0

    Just because some old players come back doesn't mean DayZ will get alot of new players. Especially not if it gets butcherd by reviewers. Remember it's the new players that can bring in money, old players have already payed for DayZ. Development has already been slow as hell. My guess is that post 1.0 will be worse.

    It's always tricky when they get funded by players for a game not yet made. Because technically the players have already payed for the product. In DayZs case the development took too long and the hype died down for most of the players. They know they wont get a shitload of new people buying the game now. The hardcore players have already bought it. So they have to focus on other projects first. Like that Vigor project. I bet they even got deadlines there they have to follow, so they can't fuck around like with DayZ. They said before they had 60 people working on DayZ but i seriously doubt they got that at this point. DayZ sold 3 million copies + the mod gave Arma 2 alot more sales. I think DayZ would have deserved better then this.

    Yeah I also got a really bad feeling about this... The bugs are everywhere. Just to name a few.. Tried to put my backpack on the ground - gets stuck floating in a bush and can't be picked up. Tried to use headtorch - it just floates above my head and doesn't work. Carries a barrel for 15 mins - realize then its bugged and can't be used. Fire my gun - no sound. But somehow I can hear my friends gun. Hits the Zombie in the head with my knife - See blood splatter coming from the Zombies feet. Zombie has his back turned toward me - Still manages to somehow hit me. Close combat is supposed to be better, encounter 2 players with shotguns inside a cramped field hospital cabine - They fire like 8 shotgun rounds point blank and one pistol mag before they manages to finally kill me (had no armor or gun). Encounters enraged zombie - it gets stuck by any obstacle infront of it. As if it has no pathfinding at all. Even older Zombies did a better job. Many bugs are just baffling. I mean they are super easy to find. Yet you don't fix them properly? Then we have alot of content removed and some design parts of the game feels very unfinished. We need a miracle at this point if they pull it off in time.

    It's outdated look doesn't necessarily need to be engine related. Alot of the props are just very old, remember many buildings and other props are from the Arma 2 era. If you look at some DayZ weapons and gear it actually looks really good. But for the enviroment they would have to rework it all if they want a concistant level of quality. Something I don't think we will get, because its an insane task for a studio that seam to have very few actually working on DayZ. Regarding Undergrounds... Most games terrain is basically a heightmap. It can only be tweeked up and down. Far easier to work with in engine then a mesh. But it makes it harder to make tunnels. You basically need to add meshes props to do that. So this engine isn't anymore limited to that then Unity or Unreal. Your probably right about the lighting limitations though. Outside the border LoD terrain? They got LoDs. Its just that the trees up close arent Battlefield quality. None is expecting DayZ to be that don't worry. We just want a playable game thats not too broken. The thing is with Arma 3. It had all the core features there. Its combat felt alot better then Arma 2. DayZ SA has overall nice good firearms combat. But the melee is still a mess. People can talk crap about fallout 76 as if its combat is the worst ever. But its melee is lightyears better then DayZs. I'm actually having a hard time to think of a game that does it worse. That melee combat together with buggy zombies really breakes the immersion. That combined with all the bugs makes this game feel alot less finished then what Arma 3 was. And yeah Arma 3 was very rough at launch aswell. DayZ SA also sold alot of copies and received alot of hype. (DayZ also boosted Arma 2 sales many times over) That together with six years of development would make you think it would be more complete by now.

    I think DayZ has a future, but It's not really strange most fans are kinda sceptical of BiS promises at this point. I think the mod support can help alot though if we get some passionate modders. Question is how Barebones? Buggy zombies running through walls? Having horrible pathing. Overall having a tiny impact on the game. I mean they are in some ways worse then the six year old mod. That combined with all the bugs makes this still feel lika alpha. Who knows maybe it will get fixed before release? If not I think DayZ will be mocked for how little it has actually achieved. I just want DaYZ to start feeling done so I can actually try to convince my old DayZ friends to play again. I just fear DayZ 1.0 will continue to feel lika a alpha for many more years.

    The Devs said they started working on the Enfusion engine at the start of the Alpha. Six years ago, if that ment they added content for a engine they had to replace anyway. Its still bad planning from their part. We don't even know how much different the Enfusion engine is from the original. My guess is its heavily modified version of the old engine. So far I can't say it has been a major differance besides some minor stuff. Like less lag. But still stuff is buggy. Close combat fights are messy and bad. Horrible zombie AI etc... Who knows maybe the bugs will get fixed... But since BiS is known for taking alot of time I do fear it will feel unfinished at launch.

    To be fair its not really that strange people are losing hope. There has been alot of delays and issues over six years. When looking at the amount of stuff that needs fixing ofc you get worried what the 1.0 product will be. I wasn't trying the game during the stress test period, but that period alone lasted nearly six months. One would think it would have been alot of time to repair most of the bugs there. One would think this new engine would solve alot of the issues, but bugs just keeps popping up left and right. My question is: Is it unrealistic to expect a game that has been development for six years and that has sold like 3 million copies to not feel like a alpha/early beta when it reaches 1.0?
  20. Head torch worked like 2 weeks ago. But last times i have tried it. I can turn it on but its off when i put it on my head. Then it works again on the ground. No idea how to turn the combat scopes on. Sometimes its hard to know what is bugged and what i poor design choices.

    Role of submachine guns in DayZ

    Yeah from what I have heard pistols with 45 acp and .445 fires very slow moving bullets but are known for having good stopping power. A 11mm bullet to tumbling inside someones body can be quiite nasty while a 5.56 (much smaller size) can go clean through and if unlucky cause less damage. But real gunshot wounds are very complex and there are so many factors that the determines the damage. Overall it feels like there should be more advantages to getting a SMG in DayZ. In the pacific many soldiers prefered the rather tiny M2 Carbine over the M1 Garand. Even though the Garand was more powerful, mostly due to its small size and weight. We also have to remember 9mm and 45acp ammo should have alot less weight then a 7.62 or 5.56. Not sure how that is portrayed in DayZ. Yeah SMGs are starting to see less and less use IRL. But I guess they have some uses. Like people have said already, they are less likely to go through walls or go through targets and hitting hostages. The high velocity on assault rifles is also dangerous in urban areas due to potential ricochets. They are lighter/shorter and generally have less recoil when fired. If your using a Suppressor, you will have to sacrifice alot of velocity anyway on a assault rifle to get the rounds subsonic. So I guess thats a strength of a SMG.

    True but at a certain point it gets kinda silly. Besides the amount of bugs there are it still feels more like a alpha then a beta. Shouldn't this new engine have solved alot of issues? I mean there are bugs all over the place. They got less then a month to get the full game out. Can't say i notice any major differance in bugs now compared to like 3 years ago. Just different stuff not working.

    Disease Resistance?

    Ever since I got sick from eating a raw fish in DayZ 2 years ago and my character was doomed because of it. I pretty much had to sit by a well and drink and it never got better so I eventually commited suicide. Yeah it was that bad... Ever since that I haven't dared to get sick. Seams like values are either extreme or not working at all.
  24. If we had to pull out the guns on rare occations vs Zombies. Weappns would have more use then just PvP.
