  1. Namalsk is rubbish. Especially with the EVR crap and the bloodsuckers. Might be good if you get military weapons early on, otherwise you are screwed when bloodsuckers start to spawn and pile on you. I absolutely hated Namalsk.
  2. Everyone knows that if broken bones meant you were limping around for weeks and months, then anyone with a broken bone would suicide and start over :)
  3. I play alone quite a bit. I have no problems finding a hatchet, tincans, box of matches (usually the most tricky one), hunting knife and water bottles. Once you have those items you "won" the game and no longer need to visit the cities. You can just hang out in the woods and kill boars for bacon and live happily ever after. I started as a fresh spawn on 3 different servers all running 1.7.5.1 and on all 3 servers it took me no more than 2-3 hours to be fully geared (with the above). I have no need for a car when I play alone.. not picking anyone up nor do I need to travel fast between locations such as a camp site or a city. I definitely don't need a helo... and I actually find my fun with helo's in Take on Helicopters which is alot more rewarding than flying around in DayZ and waiting to be shot out of the sky by everyone with a rifle. Honestly, if you can't survive just because of this patch... maybe you're not supposed to survive... Survival of the fittest and all that.

NVG glasses in 1.7.5.1 [warning: spoiler]

Game doesn't need more military bullshit. It needs more typical civilian guns. Assorted types of shotguns, e.g. over-under versions, side-by-side which we have, pump action, single shots... and it needs more hunting style rifles such as CZ550, but also unscoped ironsight rifles such as the Enfield, or other types of clip rifles like 30-06 and various other calibers like .273, .280, .300 with different shot trajectories and "flatness" on the bullet path. Also the game needs more pistols and revolves, not to mention baseball bats, wooden planks with nails, table legs, fists, knuckleirons, knives and other easy to find melee style weapons. If I wanted to use a bloody AS50 I would play, oh I dunno... the actual ArmA2 game and not the DayZ mod.

DayZ Scenario: Would You Kill or Help

If it isn't an IRL friend or someone you know well on teamspeak/ventrilo or similar... then always kill them. Sorry, but the community in DayZ has made me 100% carefree when it comes to strangers. I tried to help when I first started out. 9 out of 10 times I'd get shot in the face, even if I didn't have any gear. So no. I'm not gonna sit here and add lies to an honest thread just because that's the "politically correct" answer to give. Anyone not an IRL friend or on same TS channel as myself gets either killed or left to rot. Until the game offers more content which actually encourages helping others there is absolutely no reason whatsoever to help, knowing that it is almost a guarantee that you'll get shot in the face either right away or very soon after you fixed up the person needing help. That is the truth and it has nothing to do about trying to be an asshole or a bastard. It's simply the result of how to survive based on the repeated experiences where I didn't survive, which are experiences that have been learned through the futile interaction with other people within the DayZ community.
  6. Yeah I noticed this too hehe. I used my M1911 to blow away to chickens... no zed aggro. Then I started gutting one chicken... and hello Mister Fancypants... or rather farmer joe with the sixpence and boots. Came through the walls to stop me from gutting his precious chicken.
  7. Personally I find it EASIER to avoid zombies as well as make them stop following me after this patch. What is the OP smoking?
  8. I tried to search for infection in the search tool without much luck. Also raised the question under the thread for the new update without any luck. So I'll try here in a seperate thread (perhaps this should be under Newbie section). Now you can be infected by numerous things... When doing a blood bag / blood transfusion. When eating uncooked meat. When drinking unboiled water. So what exactly are we talking about? Is it an infection as in... you might end up a zed? Or is it a more common / basic infection such as being sick/ill the same way you may fall sick if you are in a cold area (snowy parts of Namalsk) or just outside crawling in the mud while it's raining? Would like to know this... getting paranoid about using my 4 bottles of water on me right now without something to boil it with >.< Also, what are the chances of getting sick from this ? 5%, 15% 50% ???

    Requesting authentication 1,7,5,1 version

Loading Character Data. Please wait. I wait. Still waiting. Then I wait some more. Waiting like a pro. Playing other games while waiting. Sick of waiting and went to bed.
  10. When is this update being implemented? Looking at DayZ Commander I can't find any servers running later than 1.7.4.4

    DayZ Mod 1.7.5.1 Update

I'm on a whitelist server, but I moved over there recently from the public server they had. No idea what a fresh spawn starts with. I've been to 3-4 different supermarkets and never found matches. I find tonnes of food (carried over 20 food recently, but ate most of it to get blood back), as well as Watches x lots, some drinks, Makarov mags, sometimes an ALICE pack (which I have already) and other thingamajigs of little use. Matches are my unicorns... I hear about them but I can never find them... And I don't wanna be infected (whatever that does...) :(

    DayZ Mod 1.7.5.1 Update

What is this infection stuff??? Bloodbags can give infection... Uncooked meat can give infection... Unboiled water can give infection... What kind of infection??? Do I become a zed? Do I become sick (ie need antibiotics)? What will happen to meeee??? Also... will Box of Matches be more available (read: less rare)? Right now the number issue I have in the game is finding a box of matches... I find hunting knives all over, hatches all over, tin cans all over... I find everything I need, but never matches to actually make a fire. Will there be optional ways to create fires ? Sticks and thread? Short circuitting electrical cables? Using a magnifying glass? What about a simple Lighter instead of matches? Need more fire!
  13. It's not a matter of whether you, your friend, your mother or your cat actually did the deed. It all boils down to one thing. 1. Was there actually cheating/hacking going on? If yes, then the ACCOUNT in question gets banned, REGARDLESS of who was behind the "driving wheel" so to speak. No way you get the ban lifted from your account. It WAS used for hacking and that is all that matters. What you should do is beat your friend up until he shells out for a new copy for you. Cause in effect, due to his actions, you lost your moneys worth. Now, if my friend borrowed something from me and he broke it, then he would sure as hell pay up for his stupidity. Same thing applies despite it being software rather than a physical object. Or you might just have a really shitty friend.
  14. xwhitemousex

I got globally banned. What now?

Now you suffer the consequences for using banned weapons, even though you should have been completely aware of what you were doing considering you were arguing about banned weapons. Real shame you only got a global account ban. Be better if they had actually IP and/or hardware banned you as well.
  15. I played DayZ quite awhile back, and I liked it, initially. The fun of permadeath, trying to stay alive, exploring ruins and crossing vast terrains is quite appealing. I like the post-apocalyptic approach and the survival theme of the game. However, after two weeks or so of playing I realized the game is not about survival. It's about getting food+water+sniper rifle, then go hunt other players. Aside from premades (i.e. clans and/or friends playing together) hardly anyone works together. 9 out of 10 times you get shot on sight. So the game became completely boring to me after that. There was simply nothing to do in the game other than hunt other players. Noone wants to waste bullets on zombies, especially not when there is nothing to gain from doing so. Furthermore the game became near unplayable from script kids, duping and hacking... So yeah, I quit and I haven't even looked at the game until now (saw the patch notes on facebook). Has anything really changed? Is it still the same get food+water+sniper then hunt players which is the entire concept of the game? Just trying to figure out if it's worth reinstalling the game again at all or not.

    Return to DayZ worth it?

I completely understand the concept of sandbox games. I've played multiple sandbox games before, from EVE Online to Minecraft. However, those games actually have content in them, as in... you can do what you want, but the game actually has the features in it to allow you to do so. DayZ have no features in place to allow you to do what you like. You are limited to find water+food (no you don't need water+food to snipe, but you can't really snipe when you are dead from starvation can you?), find a gun and ammo... and then what? Put a vehicle together? There's so much KOS in the game because it's the only thing left to do once you are stocked up on nourishment and ammo. There's no reason to visit Cherno anymore, other than killing people who are trying to get stocked up on aforementioned items. If minecraft only gave you food+drink and a sword, it would get real boring in the long run. However, they added multiple things, such as the nether, different types of mobs, the ability to create farms or breed livestock, pistons and redstone items... and that's what a sandbox game is about... having nothing but the world in front of you and a range of tools or features... then do what you want with those without any quest objectives or NPC's telling you to do this or do that. Sure, DayZ has the world, but the tools and features are so lacking there is nothing to do but gun for other players. You can't build bases... barbwire? please... I log out, log in on another server, run inside your barbwire, log back onto the first server and voila, I ghosted past your whole defenses. Yeah, DayZ is a sandbox. However, it's a sandbox with very limited amount of sand and no tools to build or make use of the sand.

    Return to DayZ worth it?

What I dislike about the game is how there is nothing left to do after you put 3 cans of coke and 4 steaks in your backpack. Which means people just run around and try to find and kill other players because that's all there is left to do. Zombies spaz out when chasing you making shooting them problematic (I don't mind them being fast, but there is a difference between fast and glitched), which means there is no point shooting them unless you want to waste your bullets and let every sniper for miles hear you. I guess if game hasn't changed, and it's basically a sniper simulator with food/water thrown in then I'll just leave it be and hope for the SA to offer more content-wise.

    Build 1.7.4.4 Rolling Update

Noone used L85 for shooting at stuff, it sucked at that. It was purely used to spot players from 1000m, then swap to your AS50 (or whatever sniper you use) and kill them.

    Sniping!

Mildot ranging doesn't really work. The measuring gets messed up depending on your resolution settings. At least that's what I've read in alot of the sniping threads on the forum. You need to make corrections to your mildot ranging depending on your resolution settings. Of course, having a Rangefinder is the easiest way... optionally play on servers with nametags which gives you instant-readout of distance to objects, such as cars, players, trees, whatever.

    Can't beat them, join them

I got: Box of Matches Hunting Knife Hatchet Water Bottle M14 AIM M1911 Plenty of medical supplies. I no longer need to go within 300m of any building in the game to survive. If I should run out of ammo for some reason (very unlikely) I can just swing by deerstands in the middle of nowhere, and might even upgrade my M14 there. What now? I beat the game. I survived. I can get all the food I need in the woods, all the water I need from the lakes. Considering the amount of snipers around most larger cities, survival instinct dictates that I go nowhere near those places, ever. Thus my chances to survive are increased. So only thing left to do in the game is sit in a bush until water/food gets low, then eat/drink and after about 72 hours logged in I might need to go hunt for more food. Optionally, I could do what everyone does as end-game content, and go pussy out in a bush and snipe people. However, I have some principles regarding griefing, and if I truly wanted to just snipe people I would be playing BF3, Sniper Ghost Warrior or a similar game rather than a glitchy mod filled with random script-kiddies. So, considering I won the game I'll just leave it behind until there is new/more content added for the game that gives me something to do rather than either 1: Sit in a bush until food runs out or 2: Go snipe random people for no reason whatsoever.

    Officially lost hope.

Good try, but this attempt only nets you 1/10. Try to be more constructive next time. And the mod has a long way to go in combating cheats in it's current state. Yes there are cheaters in most games, but there are also hired people that work on new ways to detect and ban cheaters in most games. DayZ isn't there yet at all, and relying on admins on local servers to police the cheating 24/7 and keep the game clean through banlists isn't very reliable. Especially not considering how easy you can server hop. Spawn in items you need on a random server you don't care about, then switch to a completely different server and use your new gadgets there. Easy as cake. Noone enjoys a game that is riddled with cheaters, hence why quite a few people, myself included, have decided to put the game aside until it gets further in development. Afterall, there's plenty of games comming out this autumn that will keep people, me at least, entertained well into next year. Then it might be time to have a look at whether or not DayZ is less prone to cheaters and in a state that makes it worth playing again.

    Cowardly players (SoGG Clan.)

Almost every online game on the market has a logout timer. Yes, it does suck if you have a power outage or your little brother yanks out your network cable... but shit happens, deal with it. Unless you are playing on some shitty network in the middle of Congo or Bolivia, or connected via your smartphone, then most people rarely get disconnected from their network. As I said in another thread, due to being disconnected over the years I have died in MMO's, been destroyed in FPS games, had not one, but several of my ships in EVE get blown up (which relates alot to DayZ and losing items mind you), needing to redo loads of content in RTS games and singelplayer games like Skyrim as well as several other cases of having to redo stuff because shit happened and I lost connection. But I can deal with that shit, because I know the logout timers in online games are there for a reason... to avoid exploits such as deaggroing hordes of mobs or removing your character from the server to avoid being killed by players. So my message to Rocket is simple. Add a 30 second logout timer and do it right now. This is alpha, it's experimenting, so do an experiment in 1.7.2.5 and add 30 second logout timer... and I guarantee you that a huge amount of ALT-F4 complaints are automagically going to fade away from these forums. 30 seconds is too much? Not really, because you should log out in a safe location, which means NOT in a deerstand, inside barracks at NWA or inside firestation in Cherno. Find a bush, lie down, log out. Easy as that. Furthermore, you can't really adjust a timer up or down until you at least added the logout timer and then experimented with it to see the effect and feedback. Get on it already!
  23. Why is there multiple surveys? Isn't one sufficient?
  24. Pretty simple really... shouldn't there be at least minimal lighting when there is moonlight? Seems everything is completely black now (even with gamma adjustment). Don't get me wrong, I don't mind black being black when it's dark to avoid gamma-"cheating", but when there is moonlight it should give you a hint of light to work with. Thoughts?

    Sniper spawn chances screwed?

After you get a sniper and a ghillie you pretty much get stuck in the question "What now?". Direct result is running off to a nearby bush and shooting people. That's all there is to DayZ right now.
