AS50, Mil-Dots and Ranging
xwhitemousex replied to trickster234's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Works for everything else in the game. The adjustments needed to be done on AS50 because of bug doesn't change that. Also, my friend uses the same chart with his AS50 and has no problem landing shots at 700-900m range. So I don't see the problem. As for boosting post count, do you really think I care about how many posts I have or not on this forum? I participate in dozens of forums for multiple games and interests. Really couldn't care less about number of posts. Oh well, to each their own though. Enjoy your "boosted" forum posts by replying to this. Perhaps you'll reach level 10 soon. -

Snipers & Spotters, wanna know the range?
xwhitemousex replied to Sushidad's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I made a quick pre-calculated range sheet which helps you gauge the approximate ranges easily using the mildots. You can find it here http://www.filedropper.com/mildotrangesheet Just print it out, cut out the sheet and tape it next to your monitor. Then you can quickly place scope over a target, read the mildot measurement, check the sheet and you should have range on target quite fast. The sheet is calculated using a default character model height of 1.8m when standing and 0.9m when crouched. Enjoy. -
what exactly is end game in dayz?
xwhitemousex replied to Justin619's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
1. Ghillie suit 2. AS50 3. Old bike 4. Friends and camp with supplies Once you have all the above there is little left to aim for. Sure, fixing cars, helping friends gear up by providing overwatch and all that jazz, but still... For you personally, what is there left other than try to avoid getting countersniped? And yes, the old bike is the best vehicle in the game :) -
zombies seeing way too far with the new patch?
xwhitemousex replied to Gaky's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
It is usually only one zombie, and there might even be several zombies between you and the one that aggroed who didnt see you at all. It usually happens during daytime if you are in the open with 3 bars on your visibility meter. I never had it happen at night. As a result I tend to crawl alot more to get into the towns, and also when crossing streets or open expanses. Using lean alot to see if a zombie is watching my direction before I cross open lawns and areas between houses as well. It is annoying with the eagle eye zombie, but just gotta go harder on the caution side then. -

I got killed by a server hopper. I quit.
xwhitemousex replied to SP00KEH's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
A majority of people will use exploits to avoid losing or dying in games, especially games as tough as DayZ, as long as it is possible and not penalized. Some, as you say, have principles. I know a case where someone was on day 43 with very nice gear, then got pinned down in a building. Options? Log off, change server and move to safety then log back onto server or fight it out. He chose the latter and unfortunately was killed. I know a majority of people would pussy out in that situation. I was in a similar situation just today when me and a pal entered a barn, then he got shot in the back going out.. And there was only one door out. My options? Log off, ghost out via another server or stay. I stayed, asked my other friends on TS to come scout the barn to make sure it was safe for me to exit, while I was in corner, covering door. I was half expecting the guy to ghost in behind me in the barn considering the focus on that "tactic" lately. However, we cleared area and I left safely. Despite cases like that, and people not using exploits, a majority still does (and quite often call you a moron for not using the means you can to win) and will continue to do so until there are mechanics in place to prevent them. If you think a majority of players go by the rules because someone tells them to, with no consequences in place, then try any FPS game out there with FF=On and TK penalties off. See how far that gets you. -
AS50 TWS Legit or scripted?
xwhitemousex replied to dannyboy92 (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I have never seen AS50 TWS in DayZ and I asked my friends who played the game a long time and they have never seen it drop or looted it off anyone ingame either. Sounds to me like someone used a hack/script to get items unavailable to others. Which, sadly, isn't too uncommon in the game. -
Rocket Said its up to the players to do something about bandits
xwhitemousex replied to ThePunisher (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
If you want to anti-snipe or hunt bandits, then farm heli crash sites, get everyone L85's with thermals, and you can spot bushwankers in ghillie suits from 1000m away. One spotter with L85, one friend with AS50, and good bye to anyone camping proned within 1000m radius. -

xwhitemousex replied to SP00KEH's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Humans always seek the path of least resistance, and always (ab)use any advantage possible. That's just in our nature, sad as it might be. If someone can disconnect to avoid being killed, they will do so. If someone can disconnect, log onto another server and flank you, then log back into your server, they will do so. If someone can kill you without consequence, they will do so. If someone can use cheats or scripts to gain an advantage, they will do so. If you want a game, or people in general, to move in a specific direction you need to impose rules and whip them into place. Incentives only go so far, and are by far the least effective method of making humans follow directions. There needs to be a mechanic that prevents and punishes people using logoffski to save themselves. There needs to be a mechanic that prevents and punishes people logging off to flank or ambush people by moving "unseen" on other servers. There needs to be features that encourage teamplay above deathmatch. There needs to be a mechanic that prevents and punishes people for using cheats and scripts. Until those things are implemented, this game will remain a deathmatch sniper simulator with the options to avoid death by logging off, or gaining advantages by abusing cheats, exploits and scripts. Once you got your AS50, Ghillie Suit and have a camp with some friends, with plenty of food and drink... then where do you go from there? You get bored and go kill people, cause there's not really anything else to do. You got the best gear, you don't need to run into towns to get food and drink... the best you can hope for is being killed and start from scratch again. -
Depending where you broke your leg, you can always just find a nearby bush, write down your coords, drop all your items... crawl to the nearest zombies and let them kill you... then run back to aforementioned bush and loot your items back. I broke my legs due to a glitch 3 kilometers from nearest hospital in Berezinho. Took me over an hour of crawling, in the middle of the night with rain pouring down (which forced me to actually use a heatpack) and when I was 200 meters from the hospital some friends met up with me and stuck a morphine in me. So yeah... friends is your best bet. Even though I was "only" 200 meters from hospital, I'd still have to crawl down between zombies and players, break the hospital windows, crawl inside, find the morphine and stick myself, then GTFO before zombies or players kill me. So those final 200m would most likely have been the end of me if not for my friends.

To be honest, the body despawning feels like it's either based on a total number of bodies on the map/server then it does a wipe, or it removes bodies at certain timed intervals, such as every 2 hours or whatever. I've seen bodies last for a long time, and I've seen them vanish almost immediately after someone was killed. Also, if a friend is killed and is running back to reclaim gear, the best thing you can do is empty their inventory and place it on the ground. Items on ground (in my experience) seems to last significantly longer than bodies. Meaning there is less risk of losing items due to despawn if they are on ground as opposed to on the body itself.

How do you take tents down if you put one up?
xwhitemousex replied to afterthesism's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
This is untrue (read my above post). I have personally placed tents and then later relocated them. -
How do you take tents down if you put one up?
xwhitemousex replied to afterthesism's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
You move mouse over the tent until you get the rearm symbol (the gun with ammo next to it and circle around). Scroll your mouse and you should get a "Pack tent" option. Note 1: Anything inside the tent is scattered all over the immediate area when tent is packed. Note 2: If you placed the tent, then got killed, you can't repack the tent. Only the OWNER of the tent can repack it and relocate it. Keep in mind that DayZ has permadeath, meaning anything your character owned, such as tents, are lost if you are killed. It doesn't matter that it's same account and you just respawned again. The game treats tents belonging to your dead character the same way it treats tents owned by others when you approach those, and you can't repack someone elses tent. -
Ghilli suits no longer spawn in residential areas?
xwhitemousex replied to [email protected]'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
If you check out this loot map http://dayzdb.com/ma...em=Ghillie Suit It shows no spawn locations for Ghillie Suit. It also says (on the right in the meny/info area) So based on the lack of confirmation about looted ghillie suits post 1.7.2.3 patch in multiple threads, and this map database not even listing any spawn locations, I have to just go with the ghillie suit not being on the loot table in this patch/build. We had guys looking for one now for days (since 1.7.2.3 came out) without finding one in neither smaller residental areas, the larger cities (supermarkets, apartments, offices etc), or military areas like airfields and crash sites. -

Disconnect, change server, flank, reconnect. Simple solution.
xwhitemousex replied to Junos's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Due to how simple it is to log out, enter another server to change position and log back in again... I have this proposal instead. If you log out from a server, you have a 30 minute timer before you can rejoin that specific server again. You can, however, join whatever other server in the meantime... just not the same server you just left. So simply put... leaving a server gives you a 30 minute "ban" on that specific server. Feel free to run around and do whatever on other servers while you wait out the 30 minutes. That will effectively kill any "teleporting" tactics, while not keeping anyone from playing the game (though it may keep you from playing with your friends if they insist on remaining on the same server you just left). Either way... you try to use cowardly tactics, you can sit on another server alone for 30 minutes, or have your friends over where you are and take it from there. -
I used TrackIR before, though mostly in flight sims. It was usually short lived though cause I never got quite used to the glancing... plus you needed to have a cap on to mount the tri-pod thingie with the reflectors. And I really don't like playing with a cap on :P It's enough that I have the headset on already. But I haven't scoped out TrackIR lately so I dunno... if they fixed it so you don't need the cap-mount or improved the IR reflector things then I might give it another try. It was quite useful in the flight sims for looking around, especially in helicopters where you need to clearly see where you are in relation to the landing pad under you. *edit* Well, I just googled the new TrackIR 5 and it seems it comes with a clip-on for the headset, which means I just ordered it :) I really enjoyed the TrackIR in flight sims (mostly FSX) but that stupid tri-point thing you needed was the killer for me. Seems now it will be just perfect! A nice video here: Also, if you follow the links from that video you get a 20$ discount on the TrackIR 5 and clip-on, as well as 5$ discount on shipping (at least I got that just now).

The shooting bugs and why this game will become a sniper war...
xwhitemousex replied to Hanga's topic in New Player Discussion
This is really an issue to be honest. On zombies it works fine to use nonscoped rifles and sidearms. But on players it's pointless. I was sitting on a corner, 15 meters away when another survivor was crouch-walking across the street. I lined up my M1911 with the iron sights, held it still as he walked into my sight and I squeezed off right in the torso. The player immediately "bungee corded" 5 meters back (sorta like he was ghosting) and I lost sight of him. Didn't get a kill message either. I know it was a dead-on shot, but given how he more or less warped away immediately when hit (and probably ALT+F4'd out) I was unable to tell if it was a true hit or not. I had many cases like this with assorted weapons, ranging from shotguns to rifles and makarovs to G17's. If you want to kill something you need to just spray like hell and hope the goddamn code has him synched up by your sights. Lately I've stopped going near residental areas where I know there are players due to the unreliable hit detection. Much safer to just scavenge deerstands and isolated buildings or factories, and just pop people from 500-600m out with a scoped rifle. Yeah it's alpha, but come on... is hit detection this wonky in Arma2 on multiplayer? No reason it should be in DayZ. -
Ghillie suit - does it spawn after 1.7.2.3 ?
xwhitemousex posted a topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Had a friend looking for Ghillie suit all over the place after the fix in 1.7.2.3 but can't seem to find ghillie nor camo clothing. Has anyone found one after the patch? Beginning to wonder if it's really that rare (been looking in several locations, on different servers, over the course of several hours each night). Be nice to have some confirmation. -
What to do when you come across a dead body...
xwhitemousex replied to TyGuy (DayZ)'s topic in New Player Discussion
Mouse over zombies, scroll your mousewheel. If you see a gun with a circle around it, then you can loot stuff off zombie. If you see a gun with no circle around it then zombie has nothing. As for dying and looting your own corpse... you can do that just fine. I did it myself when had gotten a full kit for cooking meat (axe, matches and hunting knife), a Lee Enfield with plenty of ammo, water bottle, assorted medical supplies and a Makarov sidearm... some dumbass glitch caused a zombie to warp into the house I was in, and it knocked me down breaking my leg. I got so pissed at that glitch that I crawled back outside and into a bush just outside the town, fired of a shot with my Enfield and let the zombies eat me. Then I respawned about 5 times until I spawned next to the little village again, ran over to aforementioned bush and looted all my stash... without broken bones or reduced blood... then I bolted north into the woods, axed a cow to death on a field, made a campfire in a secluded valley, cooked up 7 meat and now live happily ever after. However! If you have to run a long distance to get back to your corpse you should (assuming you have the chance) drop the loot on the ground first. The player corpses may despawn or glitch out. I'm sure everyone has ran past areas where you hear the flies buzzing but find no player corpse. But items dropped on the ground will persist for a much longer time than the corpses (at least in the experience me and my friends have). Generally if one of us die and others don't have room to grab the items, we empty the corpse and place the loot all over the ground. I have yet to come back and find any items dropped on the ground lost or despawned. Be warned though that there is a glitch with the backpacks. Friend of mine looted my backpack and dropped it on ground, but when I got there I couldn't see the backpack. However, when he ran back to show me where he dropped it, it was visible on his screen but not on mine (nor another friend of us who were in same spot). So dropping a backpack with full contents might get glitchy if you have to run a long ways to get back. -
Suggestion: blood regen and self blood transfusions
xwhitemousex replied to tank77's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Humans can, roughly, go 3 days without water and 3 weeks without food before expiring. Granted, you'll be in a really shitty state after 2 weeks without food, but the point is... ingame you need water every, what, hour? And food every 1.5 or 2 hours ? That's far off from what a human can survive if we are talking realistically. However, given that it's a game you expect things to happen a bit more quickly. I find the thirst/hunger timer to be quite decent. It's long enough that you can survive for quite a time when you are filled up, but at same time not so long that you can run for several sessions without bothering with food. So what about that blood then? Sure, blood could regen over time. I wouldn't mind that and to be honest I half expected it to work that way when I started the game. Blood can only be regained in 4 ways. Cans of whatever +200 blood. Cooked meat +800 blood. Blood transfusion, puts you at max health (12000) Respawn, puts you at max health (12000) Regenerating blood should have some criteria though. For instance, you need to have full (green) thirst/hunger indicator as a definitive requirement. But you might also need to not be moving around.. i.e. your blood regens faster (though still very slowly) if you sit down somewhere (using the actual sit command). That way it would give purpose to taking a rest from time to time, especially after an encounter where you were badly wounded. You bug out and run to safety, then find a secluded spot where you sit down to rest and basically lick your wounds. Considering I play this game for the survival simulator side of it, I'm 100% supportive of features that relate to real life... and sitting down to rest up and gather your strength (i.e. try to get your bloodlevel up) is definitely something that would add to the experience. Noone is going to have a sit-down in the middle of the city... and it further enhances the focus on finding safe places... or rather, relatively safe places anyways. -
Has the Ghillie suit been removed from the game?
xwhitemousex replied to Cryptex (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
At what type of loot location? Residental, military, heli crash sites? -
In order to sit, you first have to stand. While that might sound very Yoda or old indian saying, what I mean is you can't sit from a crouched position. Gotta go from crouch to stand, then hit sit key (whichever one you bound to sit).
