Thermal Scope, How OP is it?

You people are missing the entire point. You could attach the thermal scope to a broomstick and it would still be useful for what, at least our team, uses it for which is; Pre-scouting areas Countersniping (NOT with the trash L85 but dedicated snipers such as AS50, M24, DMR or CZ550's) Generally keeping team safe by having a 1000 meter range tool that instantly identifies potential threats by just mousing over the horizon. Again... it's not about the L85 and it's capabilities as a gun. I honestly don't give a crap about the L85 itself. We use the thermal scope since it's amazingly overpowered by allowing you to spot threats alot faster and at longer ranges than they can by using dayscopes or binoculars and then being able to plan your attack, get into position for a sniper shot, or simply fall back from the area. With a thermal scope on the team you have just gained the upper hand in about 95% of all encounters you might end up in, simply because you see them before they see you. And that's what it is all about.

guild wars 2 > this broken game

I'm going to totally enjoy GW2 as well, but it's an entirely different genre. I have been enjoying DayZ as well, but it's not the game being in a bad shape due to being in alpha, nor the overload of PvP that makes me put DayZ on the shelf; it's the rampant cheats and scripts being used on more and more servers. Anyways, GW2 isn't out for another month, so you can't really pack up and tell us you are going to be playing GW2 for another 30 days or so :) Meanwhile you are stuck with GW2 reviews, youtube videos and DayZ forum.

    Servers with frequent hackers

Yeah things will improve, but in how many weeks/months? Meanwhile I'd really like to be able to avoid places where hacking seem to happen frequently. I constantly see threads about people being victims of various hacks. As for who hates children; I don't hate them initially, I dislike them by default, and from there their own behavior usually pushes my attitude towards them down a negative slope. We're 7 billion people on the planet. We don't need more children. Time to put on the brakes and stabilize the population. But that's an entirely different topic altogether.

    No Respawn button now? /sigh

There are some benefits and drawbacks to this. Benefit: Less strain on servers obviously. Also it increases your incentive for staying alive as you never know where you might respawn next. I'll gladly admit that I've taken advantage of the respawn when I've been badly wounded or become low on food/water/blood and just crawled to a bush near the coast, fired off my Enfield and let the zombies eat me... then I chain-respawn until I am close, run back to corpse and loot full set of equipment. Not so anymore... at least it will take alot longer, especially if I respawn away from an immediate zombie area. Drawbacks: Harder to meet up with friends is an obvious one, especially if all of you are just starting out fresh. I have to add though... in the start, do you really need/want to meet up with your friend within the first 30 minutes of playing? There is really no advantage to having 2 players, both lacking food and water and neither having weapons, running around together. In fact, it just makes things more difficult plus you will be more visible when running around. In all honesty, until both have gotten some food and water supplies, and at least one has gotten a gun... you don't really need or want to be teamed up together. In fact, by running around to meet up you waste valuabe time on your thirst-o-meter when you should have been rummaging some houses for a soda. So overall... I think it's a good change. Less server strain and more incentive to keep yourself alive rather than (ab?)using game mechanics to quickly recover gear or run back to a specific location.

Well I just uninstall this POS

Please... sandbags, tank kits and wiring fences can be bypassed simply by logging on to another server, walk 10 feet, and log back. So in current state they are 100% useless. Sure, you can use them to build some kinda camp inside the cities, to fence out the zombies. But what on earth would be the point of setting up some kinda base, in a hotspot where everyone wanders, or even inside a building where people know where you are at all times (and can easily bypass it by server hopping as well)? So yeah, per se you can spend hours running around trying to find all that stuff and set it up, but it would be entirely pointless based on the state of the game. Have you even seen a single interview with Rocket? He has expressed his eagerness to implement player built underground shelters or bases on numerous accounts, and even referred to them (large underground, player built structures) as DayZ's equivalent to EVE Online's capital ships. So I'm afraid you are wrong and what DayZ is about IS surviving (the basics of which are ingame right now) and then progressing from there to take the next steps as far as survival goes, which is building underground structures or bases (based on what Rocket has envisioned at least). My point is, and Rocket has said as much himself, last time in the SideStrafe interview on sunday, DayZ is currently just a husk they need to build from. There is no goals in the game right now. The main goal is surviving by finding food and water, and a gun... but once you achieved that you have nothing left to do, hence.... well... you got a gun... and you can shoot other people.... so that's what the majority ends up doing... hunting other players and shooting them. The fact that the game keeps track of your murders only further encourages running around gunning people down since you can consider the murder count identical to a frag counter. How many frags can you get before you die? That's the essence of the game currently. At least there are alot of plans, ideas and visions for the game in the long term... and Rocket seems to weigh things almost exclusively based on the long term effects and consequences. So I believe a lot can happen in DayZ, but as I said in my last reply, the game has a long way to go before getting there, just as EVE has spent a decade getting where EVE is today and getting to the point where the majority of the game is player driven.

    Hackers have gone too far

This is exactly the reasons why I can't find motivation to continue much with DayZ. Sure, it's fun and games the first minutes when you have an A-10 next to you, but it quickly makes the entire reason for logging in to DayZ pointless. It's bad enough that there is an overload of military guns and equipment accessible the legit way of playing, but stuff like this just makes it 100% pointless. Oh well, maybe it will get better over time... like 6-12 months worth of time.

Well I just uninstall this POS

Rocket likes to compare DayZ to EVE when it comes to defending why there is open PvP and why it is needed to create a player-driven environment within DayZ. Sadly, DayZ doesn't have anything that relates to EVE, besides open PvP... and even there EVE, despite being one of, if not the most, hardcore MMO's on market, has made compromises to safeguard new players. EVE has a completely player driven economy, but EVE didn't go into alpha, then beta then got launched with a player driven economy. EVE has matured into what it is now over years... several years. In fact, when EVE was fairly new most items were seeded into the game and not made by players at all. Now EVE is successful, as far as it's niche playstyle goes, because it has had those many years to constantly evolve into the game it is today. EVE wouldn't have been where it is today if you had thrown every newbie directly into nullsec when they started, getting constantly farmed by more experienced players in better ships everytime they undocked from a space station.EVE player start out in the relative safety of highsec, then as they become more experienced and more proficient with the game, they start to join player corporations and slowly migrate to nullsec or even wormholes. But DayZ doesn't have no mission system, or mining, or building, or trading or in fact, anything that can be related to EVE in such a manner. Trading in DayZ rarely works out since you just show up and then eat a snipershot to the head, and someone else simply loots all your stuff. In EVE you have large nullsec corporations because there is a necessity for players to cooperate in order to remain in control. There is no such necessity in DayZ. In order to survive in the open PvP world of nullsec you require huge amounts of either resources or ISK in order to keep people supplied with ships and ammo. You need logistics networks to move around, teamwork to move large fleets, cooperation to keep systems safe. Because there is a need to have people with various skills in order to achieve all those things, you find people working together in corporations. You have freighter pilots, capital ship pilots, market traders, researchers, explorers, ship builders, combat pilots so on and so forth. DayZ has no such mechanics at all. You don't need someone who can drive cars or fly helicopters... everyone can do it. You don't need someone who can fix broken legs or stop bleeding... everyone can do it. You don't need someone who has the skill and training to use sophisticated sniper rifles and military equipment... everyone can do it. And there is no goals in DayZ. Sure, it's about surviving. But in the real world, once you have food and water you can actually start doing something else... such as building shelter, or even start building a house. You have so many options and things you can proceed to do once you have the basics in real life, but in DayZ there is nothing whatsoever you can really go for once you have the basics... except one thing... go hunt other people. The mechanics/features that provide players with more options than blowing eachothers brains out are simply not implemented (at least not yet). So do people have just cause to be upset about constantly being killed? Well... not really. The game in it's current state means it's a grab food/drink (ingame, not IRL) then go play deathmatch. There is no secret to this and it's well known and admitted by Rocket in different interviews. It's a current flaw, but something to be worked at over time. Which simply means, if you don't want to hunt other players or PvP, then Chernarus Apocalypse is probably a much better option at this stage. There is great potential with DayZ and it can, given the right support and development, become something truly unique in much the same way that EVE is completely unique in the playstyle and atmosphere you find there. But that is a long, LONG road to walk still. DayZ is currently where EVE was about 10 years ago. I'm hoping and believing DayZ can offer more than just a sniper-manhunt experience further down the road, and that they actually let the game evolve in the direction of a survival sim and not a sniper sim. I'm worried though that with the game in the state it is now, it will attract alot more of the pure PvP community and keep turning away the more survival focused community, which means the game will probably keep making a turn towards a heavier focus on pure PvP from the community feedback. EVE wouldn't survive without both the PvP and the PvE elements in place. People do PvE stuff like mining, researching, building and trading, in order to supply the people who make ships go bang with even more ships... which then go bang and creates a demand for more ships... Despite the EVE community sitting in different forts as well, with the PvE and PvP crowds having at eachother, there is a synergy between PvE and PvP in that game. If you push out the PvE... who is going to mine out resources to build more ships? The PvP'ers? I think they'd get real bored, real fast, from shooting stationary rocks all day. So ship prices go up due to lack of supplied resources and eventually people can't afford to make ships go bang anymore. So without a player driven economy... can DayZ accomodate both sides of the community, both PvE and PvP? Or even more interestingly... can there be a synergy between PvE and PvP within DayZ?

    Next Update

How do you have a private server? I thought all DayZ servers were open servers. That was kind of a point with the whole hive server whatever.
  10. Sounds just like the mass-death hacks that were found in battlefield 3 for a period of time. To be honest I find myself discouraged from continuing to play DayZ at the rate it's going with the cheats. People flying around in helo's even though they are taken out of game, finding AS50 TSW's on dead players, mass-death scripts and whatever else is running rampant lately just sucks all the fun out of the game. So fun to have the thrill and excitement of getting gear and not getting sniped on an airfield, only be the victim of a serverwide massdeath. Sure, DayZ is about how long you live and eventually you die and restart. But when the death comes in the form of a cheat or idiotic advantage someone has gained by abusing scripts, well... then it's no longer fun, exciting or any fear and paranoia involved anymore. Then it's simple frustration. And honestly, despite Rockets claims in the SideStrafe interview about not really looking for the fun/excitement thing for DayZ but rather the other emotions... I don't find frustration over incessant script and hacking an emotion I come to enjoy over longer periods of playing. So for me, I find it hard to dig up enough motivation to start all over again knowing it probably wont be zombies or legit players that will be the undoing of me, but these cheats and hacks. I don't mind being the victim of a fair kill, or even bugs/glitches... I do mind being the victim of a hack or cheat. Anyways, maybe i'll pick it up from time to time, but I've really lost the spark I felt in supporting the game when I first started out.

    Too many tents.... let's go

Why wouldn't he go on a public forum and post the location of someone's camp? After all, this game supports all types of non-survival types of gameplay, like snipers camping Balota airfield just to inflate their murder count by shooting newbies... or people camping the fire station in Cherno just to kill random people for no reason whatsoever. It's a survival, deathmatch, PVP oriented, dog-eat-dog type of game (at least if you read a few "there is too much pvp" threads). In a dog-eat-dog world people do what they need to do to survive. Whether that is logging off during a firefight, logging off to use other servers to bypass defenses or outflank people... or logging off to post someone's location on a forum so others can come destroy it. All the people that abuse the logoffski tactics in this game should embrace this tactic. He effectively "hired" about 20 people to go take out that camp. For a lack of a bounty system in the game, this is an awesome substitute.

    Ghillie Suits as of 1.7.2.3

Ghillies can't be looted when equipped, only if they are kept in the backpacks like regular items. So if you wanna keep your ghillie safe, and prevent others from taking yours, then put it on.

Thermal Scope, How OP is it?

Well, it is alpha, so yeah, we do have to expect and deal with issues like that.

Thermal Scope, How OP is it?

My point is... keep the weapon ingame (the L85) and get rid of the thermal scope. To be honest, there is way too many and easily accessible military grade weapons in the game, so for all I care they could have gotten rid of the L85 entirely. For a survival sim I would expect handguns and shotguns to be the run of the mill weapons, and perhaps some ironsight hunting rifles and very rarely scoped ones. And yes, I know, people will claim that enfields and winchesters are the standard guns in the game. No, it's not really. Enfields and winchesters are pretty standard if you only raid barns and small towns. Start hitting some deerstands, helicopter crash sites, airfields or fire stations and you suddenly have military grade weapons and ammo comming out your ears. After I respawned from being killed it took me less than an hour to have an enfield and a G17 with plenty mags. Less than an hour after that I had an M14 AIM as well. So yeah, the military stuff is way simple to find. Furthermore, if the scoped weapons were alot more rare there would also be alot less playerkilling, especially around Cherno, Elektro and Balota airfield. There's alot of experienced players who run and get scoped guns, then come back south to hunt lightly armed or even unarmed newbies who are just trying to figure out the game. How many new players do you think have been sniped down while looting and trying to figure out ArmA2's absolutely shitty inventory management? 1. Remove thermal scope. 2. Reduce amount of military loot (or at the very least impose severe limitations on finding ammo for them, which makes sense since if the military was overrun by zombies, they wouldn't have conserved their ammo.) 3. Increase rarity of finding scoped weapons. 4. ??? 5. Enjoy an improved DayZ.

    Taking the game too seriously

If it was real life I can promise you, as you said, 99% of the players in the game wouldn't have the guts, stomach or will to pull a trigger on someone. There are alot of psychological factors that come into play, and even though none of us like having our brains examined and typically shrug it off by taking on the tough guy act, there would have to be a serious and desperate situation before anyone pulled the trigger on sight over a can of beans or backpack. Difference in the game is, it doesn't matter. The guy you just blew away will respawn. He'll be upset, but he'll be able to run around and get his stuff back, or gun down someone else for their stuff. It doesn't matter because you respawn. If you gun someone down in real life they won't respawn. You remove that person from the face of the earth with all the consequences that will bring with them. What will others think about you? What about the persons family? Kids? Parents? Also, shooting someone is serious even if you just wound them. Alot of people seem to have this impression that a gunshot wound to the leg isn't that dangerous. Well... gunshot wound to the leg can cause you to bleed out, can cause serious problems with muscles which may never fully heal again. Sitting infront of a PC and shooting pixels in the shape of a human is one thing. Doing it for real is a completely different ballgame altogether. So anyways, ontopic. A game is a game. Shooting someone else don't matter (besides the rep you make for yourself in the community). To stop the shoot on sight mentality there needs to be mechanics in place in the game that makes you think twice before you pull the trigger. E.g. fix the Alt-F4 / abort issue will help within the cities. Are you gonna fire that Enfield at another player, knowing you can't alt-F4 out to get rid of zombie aggro? Especially so if the zombies are improved and more dangerous indoors as well ? Also by making guns plentiful and ammo scarce, are you going to fire your gun knowing it took you 3 hours to find enough bullets for one clip? There are plenty of ways to discourage the fire at will mentality. It is, however, up to the devs to put those things ingame. And as far as I understand Rocket based on interviews and how he wants the game to become. He wants the choice to still be yours. Do you take the risk of shooting others? Is it worth it? Right now people shoot eachother because there is zero/minimal risk and alot to gain from it (such as free loot, obviously), or because they are laying 700m away with zero risk of zombie aggro or being detected just to inflate their murder count. The risk vs reward is absolutely not balanced in the current state of the game.

My question is in my signature.
  17. xwhitemousex

Thermal Scope, How OP is it?

We have an L85 on our team and we use it to constantly scan the horizon and treelines. It's extremely OP when it comes to reconnaissance of areas, especially around the towns as it can see people proned at 1000m ranges. Some trees and bushes will provide cover, but only if they are directly between the person with the L85 and the person being scouted. In our experience the L85 is an invaluable tool for keeping the group safe and for allowing extremely simple counter sniping before entering contested areas. So badly in fact, it should be removed from game (at least the thermal scope). Pretty sure there is a reason why AS50 TSW is not ingame, so why should the thermal scope variant of the L85 be? Swap it out for L85 with ACOG.

Yogscast spawned weapons and Admin Help?

Funny to hear someone make sarcastic remarks about "ultra realistic" when they play minecraft all day. It humored me, but probably not the way Lewis intended.

    Got executed naked.

Why did you bother running? Press escape, press respawn. Problem sorted and you cheat them of whatever satisfaction they must need to compensate for other issues. /shrug

Yogscast spawned weapons and Admin Help?

I generally like yogscast videos, but lately they have had a bit of an arrogant tone towards games not minecraft. They complain about features in betatest and weekends for games they try, but I rarely, if ever, heard them critique minecraft similarily The result is just me watching their videos alot less than I used to. As for them getting special treatment, whom gives a shit (besides OP obviously). They arent going to continue playing the game, that much is obvious. I also didnt hear people complain when they were admitted to join beta testruns in guildwars without the rest of noname people being allowed to join. Why? Because they are doing it as a review... Which means free PR for the game. Despite how they acted, bashed the game and got alot more help than any fresh player, it is still free advertisment for a mod/game than has absolutely no marketing besides forums and social media, as well as Rockets interviews on gaming channels. There is no such thing as bad PR.

Getting the Basic Gear is too easy

Starting without a backpack would make the Czech Vest Pouch whatever thing make more sense in the game. It has 6 slots, and you start with an 8 slot backpack... so it's meaningless as far as loot goes. Remove the backpack and justify the Czech Vest Pounch (or whateverthefuck it was called).

    Not so shining female pants

There is no point playing female character in the game. They have only set of clothes, the white pants. Female models can't use camo clothing, if found. Female models can't use ghillie suits, if found. So nomatter what you do, or what you find, you'll always have a huge bullseye painted on your ass. That said... all models, not just female ones, need to have customizable clothing. Why? Because we need to have a fixed, customized look that our friends/clans can recognize instead of random clothing and random colors each time you log back on.
