Well, imagine when theres 50+ zombies in a town, and you start to pound/shoot at a door :) You will get swarmed because of the noise. I do agree that "small" melee weapons such as the kitchen knife and screwdriver, should have a hard time opening the door, although a screwdriver can be jammed into the edge of the door, and open most doors, quite easily :) But an axe or sledgehammer, can most certaintly open a door, in very few swings, unless its a steel/reinforced door. Thats simply a matter of force and hitting the right place. Im also sure that most, if not every single fire arm, in the game currently, can be used to shoot out a lock, without to much struggle.

Let's talk about client optimization
byrgesen replied to zak.preston@gmail.com's topic in General Discussion
Yes right now it only supports DirectX 9 :) DX11 will brings tons of goodies with it, it has so many improvements and enhancements. But its gonna take some time and a huge amount of work to put it into the game. -

This is exactly why they are working on a new renderer and disconnecting the simulation from the current one. So they can get directx 11 running in the game and render exactly what they want, meaning if you set the settings to the lowest, it should be able to run in a laptop like you speak of and if you put it to the highest, it will be very pretty and runn well, on a high end PC :) At least thats how im interpreting the information about the new renderer. -
Thanks haha. Sometimes it just hits me, like a ton of bricks, and i write up s*** like that :P

Im sorry to tell you, that you have misunderstood the information given :) We already have Enfusion, we have had it from the very beginning and that is what they have spend most of they're time on, so far. We have recieved a decend amount of content already, but alot of stuff have been done "under the hood", on the newly forming engine. The whole purpose of making DayZ Standalone, was to overcome the limitation of the Real Virtuality engine, which the mod was based on. So they took bits a pieces from the RV engine, both from Arma II, Take On Helicopters and i heard abit from Arma III aswell, and slapped it together, into a giant mess basicly hehe. From this "mess", they started creating the game we are playing. First came the "network bubble", before release, then came interior in the houses we could not enter from Arma II and so on and so on. So basicly you are already playing on the Enfusion Engine, its being created as we speak, and have been from the very beginning. The reason they mentioned a "new engine", is because the end result will be a looooong distance from the original RV concept, most people are familiar with theese days. This is the reason we dont have vehicles, advanced mechanics (such as proper animal/zombie AI and pathfinding or vehicles) and some other stuff, that might have already been in the RV engine. They want to create most of it, from scratch, to serve a very different purpose, then the engine was ever ment to do :) So in essence, we only have an empty shell right now, Bohemia needs to stuff it full of goodies. I hope this sheds some light on the case for you mate.

But a restart of the game is still required to see the correct rendering resolution :) Set resolution, restart, set render resolution hehe.

Personally ive never ever liked any of the filthy DayZ mod mods with NPC :) But thats just me. As far as im concerned, it does not belong in this game at all, everything should be player controlled and player organized, we just need the right tools to do so. Im sorry for "pissing on your parade" mate, but the game clearly shows, from the very beginning of the mod actually, that people dont give 2 cents about your gear, 99% of the time, when you are shot. You are simply shot because they can shoot you. Same would happen to NPC's and actually i believe, that people will most likely kill NPC's more often, because they know it will "f***" with more players' gameplay, then killing individual players. The amount of people playing this game, purely to ruin other peoples day, is incredible high, so i find it abit to naive that you believe NPC's will be left alone, most of the time :) Not to mention the inevitable campers, that will be at every single NPC on the map, making it pretty much impossible to get anywhere near them, without getting killed. The only "defense" against such behavior, is making making NPC's immortal, or creating a "safezone" around them where damage cant be taken, and that is IMHO a very very bad design decision for this game.

You would be much better off, finding the threads about your ideas and post in them :) Making a topic like this, does nothing, and its very difficult to discuss, because its basicly just a bunch of ideas, thrown into a thread. Its much more effecient to have a thread for each idea, seperatly. Like other have mentioned, nothing you said is new and most of it, has been talked about for the last year, pretty much. The search function is your friend, in this case mate hehe.

Sorry about my last post, what exactly are we allowed to ask about?
byrgesen replied to Heman (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
The best tip to new forum members, i can give, is spend alot of time going through the forum and read up on what ever you like, comment on some threads. That way you will end up with alot more knowledge and alot less bitching. Ofc you are allowed to open any thread you want, but chances are its already here somewhere :) Spend more time reading then writting and you will have a good time here, plus you will gain alot of knowledge about the game. Just look at me as an example, ive been here for almost 2 and a half year, yet i only have 2300 posts. Theres no reason to post just to post, although alot of people think this hehe. -
Info taken from DayZ Wiki As a rule for memorization: O- is the universal donor, can donate to anyone without checking. AB+ is the universal recipient, can receive from anyone without checking. O can transfer to O, A, B or AB A can transfer to A or AB B can transfer to B or AB AB can only transfer to AB (-) can transfer to (-) or (+) (+) can only transfer to (+)

I just want to say i spend alot of time trekking in the woods, in Denmark, and when you are inside a forest at night, you cant see 10cm in front of you, without a light source :) The only time you will be able to see anything if if we are close to a full moon or have a full moon. If its just abit coudy, its dark as hell, even when you walk around open fields. Go to a place where theres no "light polution" and you will notice its really really dark. If the moon doesnt show clearly, its almost impossible to see just a few meters in front of you. Dont get me wrong, i would like abit brighter nights, but if we are talking realism and authenticity, DayZ and Arma, in general, is quite close to how night time looks in real life. As far as the whole milky way goes, all i want is realistic stars, placed like they are in real life, so we can navigate with them. I want real life constellations in the game, to be able to find the stars i need to find, to navigate without a compas or map. Exactly like we had in Arma II :)

Need A Immersive Survival Thriller To Watch Until Season 5 of Walking Dead? I got what you need!
byrgesen replied to street707's topic in Gallery
You present the video with the exact feeling i had, the first time i booted up the mod :D Brings back joyfull memories, thanks alot mate. Have some beans, i will watch the rest of the series, the first episode was very very good. -
Im sure you can find some that havent updated yet, but like Helios says, they arent on the server list. You can only connect to them via direct IP. So you will have to find communities who havent updated and doesnt plan on updating.
-
Preach is right, he makes some good points :) On top of that, if you have no interest in Arma, what so ever, dont even think about buying it for the mod tbh. The mod is far more military then the SA, basicly its Arma with zombies and food/water. It would be a waste of money to buy Arma, for nothing but DayZ mod imho.

how about the servers with 8 times more loot?
byrgesen replied to kakysas666's topic in General Discussion
I can pretty much garantuee you, this is not intended and will be fixed at some point :) Perhaps its a bug related to the persistance they are working so hard on, i dont know. -
Player Temperature when Inside a Vehicle
byrgesen replied to jamiereid_wow@hotmail.co.uk's topic in Suggestions
I like it. It should take time to heat a cold vehicle (10 mins or so) and it should provide some kind of shelter ofc. But if the windows are broken and its windy and rainy outside, it shouldnt do much, if anything. -
New maps through DLC???? Cmon, this isnt EA Karma.... Release the game, give the community modding tools and you will see new maps popping up soon enough.
-
Like this?? In fact it isnt, but its considered cheating and you will get a ban! :) @Topic I would like the OP to find the exact place on the internet where it says DayZ is all about being as realistic as possible??? I havent found it yet, thats why im asking. If anything, the game strives more for authenticity then realism imho, but at the end of the day its a game and sometimes it just doesnt make sense, for the sake of having fun. Like others have mentioned, a super realistic game would not get a whole lot of attention, as you can open your front door and "play it" without ever turning on your computer.

Just about every other server, when the mod was in its "prime time" mate. Im not making this up, people genuinly "sells" donations for the servers, and i really hate it. Its not that bad anymore, at all, but it was really bad at one point in the mod and it will get to that point in the SA aswell, if nothing is done about. Lets just leave it at this mate, we wont agree on it, im sure hehe.
-
Its not, thats why its dependent on Steam. The CD-key has been removed and the game has been "locked" to steam accounts, which has a much higher degree of security, then a CD-key :)

Because female pants, in the "western world" are so damn tight, they can barely get they're hand down into them, let alone something bigger. Was trying to make a joke, but failed miserably, i see that now.
-
Removing your hand, with the gun in it, from your pocket, before the other guy aims and shoots, is close to impossible to do in something like jeans. Unless you are carrying around the smallest handgun money can buy of course. Ohh and of course, if your a female, its impossible to get anything into the pants in the first place :) Thats why they carry around handbags lol, the designers where clever right there :P
-
I understand wanting to have your clan members in the server, dont get me wrong, we did the same thing in the mod for our community members. What i dont understand is giving people "special rights" because they chose to donate money, like giving them special starting gear, vehicles, items, etc. If people want to donate, they should do it out of they're own free will, and not because they can get a vehicle/gun/vest easier that way imho. That just selling a product and has nothing to do with donations, as donations dont give anyting in return, thats the very essence of donations.
-
Perhaps only in certain pieces of clothing, with larger pockets? Try putting your hand and a gun, in to a pair of jeans, and pull it out quickly, while aiming correctly :) Its difficult,i would imagine, if not impossible. But maybe its alot easier in something like the hoodie, or the raincoat or something with large pockets. Not a bad idea, and of course you should be able to stick your hands into any pants, when they are empty :)

He just had Pipsi, hes gonna piss blood :P
