You can get your money back lol, dont be naive.... Ive done it with several games.... And please do remember we have about 5% of the complete feature list in the game atm, hate to say this but, ITS VERY EARLY ALPHA :D So the whole "the mods have tents, etc" crap you are pulling is pointless really, we will get more then the mods ever could have, thats why its becomming a stand alone game mate. The end goal is to not have server restart, to make the worlds persistant, sure it isnt right now, but again this is not a game yet, its a stress test of the core architecture of the server-client setup they have rebuild, inside the RV engine. And again, its not 40 people, its a million people playing together, can you show me a source for this "it has to be thousands on the same server to be MMO" argument please? Coz ive never heard about that "rule" before :) It fits more MMO requirements then any other genre out there atm, prove me wrong with valid sources please mate. Would love to appoligize if i am wrong, but i just dont see it. Based on definitions of MMO's, DayZ fits right in there.

Not really, BF and COD does not have progression saves, like MMO's have. You "unlock" new weapons the more you play basicly. COD and BF has nothing like an evolving world, its the same world over and over again, simple rounds based FPS, nothing more :) And its not about what it means to you really, its the definition thats been established through out the years :) Exactly like movie genres, music genres, etc.

Read this entire thread and tell me again how Cryengine can handle 225 square km of map with tons of object, so "fine" lol, coz it simply cant. This is what the devs of Cryengine says: "The only confirmed bug-free map size is 4096x4096. Use 4096x4096 as heightmap resolution and change the multiplier to two. That should be bug-free..." http://www.crydev.net/viewtopic.php?f=321&t=87445 Again, show me where it states that is HAS to be thousands of people on the same server for it to be MMO? Because i simply have not seen that anywhere, it is not the case. We have over a million players here and they can all play together, when ever they want, basicly that should be enough to classify it as an MMO lol. We have a persistant evolving world, which keeps evolving when you log off..... See where im going with this? MMO lol.... And dont even try to say BF is MMO, it has nothing like a persistant world and its a round based FPS lol. Nothing more..... If the engine is "probably worst in all gaming history", do us all a favor and get your money back, because throwing "shit" like that is not gonna get you anywhere lol. Grow up, try to argue like a intellegent person, and stop throwing crap towards the people who have spend years and years working on this engine. If you dont like it, you are free to leave, or try to come with a better suggestion, which you obviously arent gonna do.

Ok...... It is an MMO, will show you why now mate: Taken abit out of context, but it has the same meaning here. The game is an MMO, it fits all the MMO "requirements", again, it is stated nowhere, what so ever, that you need thousands of players on the same server, for it to be a MMO. The fact that you can jump to any server you want and play with anyone, of the +1.000.000 users, should tell you its an MMO. The fact thats its a persistant evolving world, should tell you its an MMO. The fact that BI are advertising it as an MMO, should also give you a small hint tbh.

You also need to understand that the version of the RV engine you see in DayZ is FAR from the RV engine you see in the Arma games mate. Its been rewritten, to fit a "mmo-architecture", so the clients cannot control anything anymore, basicly thats why we had to wait for the Alpha, until now :) It has its problems atm, but its also a brand new branch of an old, tested and tryed, engine tbh, so let them find they're way. They need to do some things with the engine now, thats never been done before, its "pionering" at its finest really. What Dean and BI are trying to do with DayZ has never been done before. An open world MMO-survival game, with tons of sandbox features and no restrictions pretty much, i would like to see anything that comes close to this and can look and function as good as DayZ does, in this extremly early state. Sure we got games that look similar, but ive yet to see a game that has the same level of debth as DayZ, in such an early Alpha, because the game isnt actually a game yet, its just a giant stress test of the new architecture, they spend so much time working on. Most of what has been done the past 6-12 months, are "under the hood" and not something you can see as a costumer really, but it is what will make the foundation of DayZ very strong. Give them some months to get every little bit of the core engine in place, and im quite sure you will see the full potential of the RV engine, in this aspect. And honestly, the RV engine is amazing, dating all the way back to the first Operation Flashpoint (2001). Its old and you can see it from time to time, but its been upgraded and worked on for so many years and its the ONLY engine in the world, that can do what it does, in term of simulations and calculations, not to mention the entire scripting side of the engine aswell. (Which will be shutdown for DayZ, but still) BI are trying to turn the RV engine into something it has never been before and theya re actually doing one hell of a job, DayZ is running SO MUCH BETTER then Arma 2 or Arma 3 ever did a month into the alpha development tbh.

Well, do russian women grow beards? I have a feeling they do lol.

Rough idea but quite an interesting concept. A "homemade" bomb vest, would be quite a weapon in DayZ. I say yes hehe, give us the option and let people use it if they want tbh. I mean, if you should be able to either find or "create" explosives, why should not be able to attach a trigger to it and put it on your vest/jacket? I can see some very interesting scenarios play out with this :)

How long does it take for a new server to appear in the server browser
byrgesen replied to theirongiant's topic in Server Advertisement
Just want to add, you cant compare the mod server listing to the SA server listing mate. The mod used gamespy, which was utter BS tbh, and the SA is using steamworks for it, so its a totally different system :) The "transfer" of this could have a impact on stuff like this, but i cant say for sure, as im not to familiar with steamworks and how it works :) -
And that, my friend, is exactly why we should not have it ;)
-
Yes i know it makes a difference with 1st vs 3rd, but it doesnt change any core mechanics in the game :) Everything works the same way, people do the same things and everybody expect the same thing. Ofc you might change the way you play it (i personally NEVER use 3rd, so cant say) but its still the same core game and rules we all play by. But saying that private hives, in the mod, didnt affect the game or me at all, is BS, im sorry mate, but it is. It had a GIANT impact on the game and took it off in 30 different directions, so it basicly became so difficult to figure out what you wanted to play, people stopped playing it, and it split the community into thousand of small communities. The SA is the final chance to gather all of the DayZ community "under the same roof", but giving people the choice to fundamentaly change the way the funtions, will result in what we saw in the mod tbh.
-
I understand mate. Im just not sure how i feel about a "class system" in this game tbh :) Need to think about it lol
-
Thats the point of a good discussion, and dont mind KoS, he is crazy rofl. But i think its gonna be hard for you to find people who agree with what you want to do mate. I personally feel like you can test the game just fine on public servers, simply join one with no players and test like a crazy mofo, if you dont want to be killed all the time :) And then you save money aswell hehe
-
This could actually be a really good idea, and i have to admit i miss the "X days" message in the corner at login, we had in the mod :) But just to clarify, this should be the ONLY stats we should ever be able to see and it should ONLY be local :) No leaderboard of any type should ever make it into the game, in my opinion.

How To check if a server is 1pp only or not
byrgesen replied to Happy-'s topic in New Player Discussion
Like Shenanigans says, all you have to do it filter out the server that says OFF in the host name and viola :) -
Read it all and answered all ;) I can understand what you mean with the "classes" (cant find a better word for it tbh) but i still feel like it could lock people down abit to much tbh. Ofc not everyone can repair a car, or use a IV IRL, but in this game people are kinda just forced to do it :) I have mixed feeling about it really, its both good and bad, but i am not sure of the impact it could have on the game.
-
Well, thats part of the testing mate, in order to test a game, you need ALL aspects of the game on each server and then monitor the outcome. If you had a PW protected server, where you could "test" stuff like this, then its not really testing the game as a whole :) Go to the public server and test what you want and get killed, its all part of the testing tbh, and all aspects of the game needs to be there to do proper testing of the functions and mechanics in the game.
-
My thought on this :) 1: If people want you to know they're names, ask them and they will tell you or they wont :) Dont like mechanics "forcing" other people to reveal who they are tbh, it should be our choice hehe. 2: I kinda like this idea, it needs some "polishing" but a hidden system like this, to give you a score, when you die, isnt to bad. Would prefer locally saved "overviews" of my character, with more details, so i can look it over, after i die, and find out what to improve next time around. BUT it has to be ONLY after death, no real time tracking of any kind, what so ever please. 3: I do not like the "class system" you propose mate, it seems to RPG'ish for DayZ. I do not want ot be tied down to a special role, because i chose a class at the game start tbh. Let people do what ever they want to do, and keep skills out of it. The only skill that should matter is how good the player is at survival (the dude behind the screen) but i would really hate to see ingame skills/classes like what you describe :) 4: Im sorry if this sounds abit hard mate. But we arent fighting zombies, we are fighting infected and the only reason you are a human is because you are immune to the virus (lore dating back to the beginning of the mod) I would hate to see people turn into Z's, its just not the DayZ spirit and would go against the "lore" we have played and worked with for some years now. Zombie hordes, which roam? Maybe, depends on the way its executed Loot in cupboards and clossets, not bad at all, would actually like to see this being made :) As far as luring the Z's, we had cans and bottles to throw in the mod, which did this exact thing, but i doubt you will ever see any kind of reaction, because of voice chat. Hopefully we will be able to lure them, with thrown stuff, like in the mod again :) 5: Chernarus is a fictive ex-soviet state and the game is set mid to late 90's. (as far as ive understood through the development of the mod and now SA) As much as i would like to see a big city (sky scrabers and stuff) it just would not fit the current enviorement and look of this post-soviet state. Theese people are poor and the only places we should find some remotely modern buildings, should be the current "big cities", but i doubt you will ever find something really modern anywhere on the map :) + Chernarus is actually build, based on a real area in the world :) The Dev team have visited it several times, to take photos and to improve the map, so it looks more like that place. Ofc they added some of they're own stuff along the way, but most of it is based on real world locations (dating back to the map in Arma 2) I hope i didnt "piss to much on your parade" but this is how i feel about your suggestions mate :) Keep em comming though, you can never suggest enough tbh.

No, coz its not a security hole mate :) DDOS has nothing to do with security. Its simple really, its a flood of useless information, which then "clocks" the entire server its aimed towards, so the useful information cannot enter. Hence people got they're character wiped, it was impossible to get the information your client needed, because the HIVE was flooded with useless information, maxing out all the bandwith. The bigger bandwith, the more "bots" you need, but its never impossible to DDOS anything really. Theres no technology in the world, which can prevent people from sending useless info to any kind of server, thats why DDOS is used by so make groups around the world, to try and "make a point" :)

10 minute is not enough to loot dead bodies you put down
byrgesen replied to crazyandlazy's topic in General Discussion
Ehhmmmm..... Its an early aplha, not a game yet, have some patience young padawan :D We will get the good stuff in time and i can assure you this is not the way it will be forever, but they do not want to increase it x hours, just to see the servers die now. Wait for BI to get the core architecture of the game done, so it can actually support alot more then 10 mins, instead of moaning about "the terrible impact" is has on a game, thats not even a game yet :) We cannot get more BIG features or upgrades, if the game architecture doesnt support it well, and we have been told that the core game isnt done yet, so calm your tits and wait abit :) -
Whats the Burlap Sack For ? Here is the Answer !

I said it does not affect gameplay in the same way removing perma death will... 1st/3rd person is not gamebreaking in anyway, it does not change the fundamental gameplay in any way and it does not alter any core mechanics in the game. And yes, look at the mods and tell me again, making different versions of the game doesnt affect me, the community or the game it self in any way mate. Its simply not true. Ultimately this is Rocket's vision, and i can promise you he loves permadeath. So we can argue all we want here, but it will simply never happen lol.
-
Its still impossible to prevent DDOS 100% mate, nobody in the world has that techonology. :) Its to easy to aquire a "botnet" for a DDOS attack theese days, takes 30$ and you have 1000+ infected computers, just waiting your orders and ready to ping anything down. The day someone invents proper anti-DDOS software, he will become the riches person in the entire world :) But as of now, its impossible to prevent it 100%, ask anyone in the IT business.

Awsome stuff :) Cant wait to bind and "gag" my first victim MURHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! -
For it to to be an RPG, it needs classes, roles, levels, xp, skills, global economy. Theese are the core features in games such as WOW, RIFT, GW2 etc. The "real" MMO-RPG's. This is not a part of DayZ, so no its not an RPG mate. Far from it actually :) Read this mate: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Massively_multiplayer_online_role-playing_game It can "prove" what im trying to tell you :) EDIT: Forgot to mention, ofc you can RP the game, but that does not make it into a RPG :)

So the HIVE cannot support a large number of players at the same time? it sure can. It does not state anywhere it has to be on 1 server, and since all servers are connected and persistant evolving worlds, it can be classified as an MMO. Please bring a better argument mate, coz that was borderline stupid :) EDIT: IF you had read the rest of my post, this post would not have been necessary btw :)
