physics of objects are totally broken atm - why not just disable it for the time being
byrgesen replied to joe_mcentire's topic in General Discussion
So in a nutshell, putting a game on steam, makes you automaticly disregard the developers advice and guidanse, before buying into something called "Early Acces" and is clearly labelled an ALPHA?? (see, now you made me do it....) It also makes you loose youre sense of reality (developing a really good game, in 2-3 years. Imposibruh!!!) and patience?? Really? i mean.... Im not really sure what to answer, right now.... You can call me what ever you like, it doesnt matter to me. But looking at bohemias track record and looking at the really good games, we have on the market (and i mean REALLY good, like playing it 5-10+ years after release), its just simple facts that a good game takes a very long time to develop and requires alot of patience to participate in. In the past year, dayz have seen a lot of updates, and most of them have been pretty significant to gameplay. I still think something like the zombie AI, is an extremly huge task. Making a computer controlled unit go anywhere on a 225 sq/km map, littered with 3d animated objects, which also move around. At the same time it should have different attack patterns, based on the position (open land, cities, rooms, etc.) the position of the victim and still not colide with anything. It should also require very little processing power from the CPU, so the rest of the game has all it needs, to run well. In a nutshell... I would love to see you write something like that, before you start trash talking proffesional programmers.... Ohh i forgot to add, dayz has always been a playble game, in development. -

Dayz was never EVER advertised as a complete game (BIG RED TEXT BOX!!!!) DayZ was never sold at full retail price, during development, and isnt at full retail price yet, wont be for a long time. If people buy it under the assumption its a complete game and its full retail price, they are either very bad at reading and understanding, or havent done any kind of research beforehand. I cant feel sorry for these people, i really cant. They knew what they were getting into, or at least they would if they had done the research one should ALWAYS do before buying any new product. I cant help but get abit offended, on behalf of BI, when you write "Some bugs *cough* zombies going through walls *cough* they clearly have no intentions of fixing anytime soon" as this is a subject that been under heavy development and open discussions for months, again if you do your research. Turning off features, is not feasible. Its not like theres a switch for every feature in the game, most of them rely on each other and turning one off will break 10 others completely. Especially in a complicated game engine like this. I will agree with some issues taking a very long time, but if you have ever done "bug smashing" on big software projects, you would know how difficult it is to fix issues, that are connected to other things, in 100's of ways. Writing code is easy, making it work is the hardest part. :) -
Boats are already part of the engine and have been for many years (Arma has a ton of boats) So my guess is it would be about the same as creating another driveable vehicle really :)

Yes please, and let us load backpacks into it :) I would love to row out into nowhere and fill the bags i brought with fish!!

Its a great idea :) When i hosted a mod server, way back in the day, we build a "refugee camp" near Kamyshovo. It was very popular, and was based on a "take some, leave some" principle. Of course some people came by and took as much as possible, but we just went on supply runs and restocked :)

Do you know if the graveyard at Berezino, is a WWII memorial graveyard? (cant read cyrillic) Thank you for the pictures, they are really good, i cant wait to see the places for my self :)

Add Greek Characters in Text Chat and Server Messages
byrgesen replied to Zarniwoop's topic in Suggestions
I wouldnt mind at all (im danish so not holding my breath for a translation lol) but now isnt the time for this. This is a suggestion for closer to release, at least in the end of the Beta, when they "polish the turd" :) Nonetheless, it would not hurt at all to support as many languages and signs, as possible, but we got bigger issues and concerns right now, imho. -
You're gonna get kicked out of Fraggle Club soon, you know..... @OP I know you said money is very tight, but as far as i can see, something has to be upgraded :) One of my friends was in the same situation as you Orlok, small case, tons of crap inside, tons of wires everywhere and bad airflow. He then bought some tape and taped all the wires together nietly, and then bought the Corsair H55 and applied it. That thing is a beast. With an overcloked i7-2500k, the tempreture never ever gets over 46, even when gaming and streaming on multible monitors. I would higly recommend this upgrade, and all you have to do it take off the CPU stock cooler, apply new paste, attach the CPU unit from corsair and replace the fan you have on the backside of your case. Very easy. But if money is short, perhaps sorting all wires nietly would be a start? :) And of course the new paste that people keep talking about hehe.

Bohemia Interactive Studios (BIS), the company behind Arma, ToH, ToM, DayZ and others, have little to nothing to do with Bohemia Interactive Simulations (BISim), which is the developer of Virtual Battle Space (VBS). Dont expect much from VBS to carry over to Arma or DayZ, if any at all. Two companies, two different clientele, to VERY different purposes and pricings. As far as i understand it, the new renderer will both improve the overall detail quality of the game (DirectX11, more particle effects) but it will also enable BI to better decide what is rendered on the screen and more importantly, when its rendered!!! Right now, the game is rendering everything, and i mean litterally everything, in front of your character. That is why cities have so much more lag, because that single building 2km away, on the other side of the city, with the axe inside of it, is being rendered 100%, along with every single building, item, player, zombie, etc. you can see. The new renderer will enable BI to, more specifically, decide what is gonna be rendered, on the clients. If you are looking at a city, from 3km distance, we dont need to see the items on the floor, that arent visible to us, through windows. We dont need to render the player behind the building, we just need the server to keep track of his position and then render him again after he becomes visible to the character. Small stuff like that, will potentially increase FPS a lot, and the possibility of creating and implementing a new renderer, gives BI some big opportunities. I say potentially because we have no idea of the specifics they are gonna do with a new renderer, so its all a guessing work, based on small bits of info, here and there.

People need a reason to play, yes. Does the developers have to provide said reason? no, not really. Back in the day, this game was refered to as an "anti game" because it has never had a final goal or objective. DayZ is not about gear, its not about survival, its not about zombies, its not about other players. Its all about doing exactly what you want to do, in the game, without having a fixed objective or goal and then dealing with the consequenses of your choices. The entire essence of DayZ is "this is your story", meaning Bohemia provides sandbox tools and we build the gameplay, like we want. I dont mind statistics, in general, but i do have a problem with statistics that encourage specific gameplay styles, like global leaderboards you mention. Give us statistics, but make it local, only visible to the player, unless he wants to share it with anyone else. Give us the choices and tools to build the gameplay we want, dont force anything down our throat.
-
What ever Bohemia decides is the best to use they're resources on. I could go on and on and on about stuff i want, but the fact of the matter is, they are not making the game we want, they are making the game they want to make and thats the definition of a good developer, in my world. It ensures passion and love for the work, along with a high level of quality. Ive yet to see an awsome game, come from a company that does exactly what the players tells them to do. I dont really care, if it takes them 3 years to finish this game. Good things take a lot of time and patience will pay off in the end. To many times have i seen rushed development, along with pleasing of the player base, end up in a giant smelly pile of crap, that nobody would touch.

Well, it surely depends on what country you do it in. In Denmark, any kind of psychical punishement like that, is punishable by law and is considered child abuse. Be it a slap, hitting with a belt, anything that involves psychically "disciplining" a child basicly. The child will be removed and if its severe enough, parents will serve jail time, and then get beaten to crap by the other inmates. And if you think psychically diciplining a child does them any kind of good, you are as wrong as you can possibly get. I work with children every day, I know the effect it has on a child and its not positive in any way or form. @OP As much as i would love for DayZ to have all kind of things in it, i dont really see the need for a belt, either as a clothing item or a weapon. A whole lot of work, for next to no reward, not worth the time and effort tbh.
-
I will give you credit for making a very well formulated suggestion :) But thats it. Im against anything that "force" people to play a different way or a certain way. The whole point of DayZ is "It is your story" and you are free to do what you want. People choose to KOS, rob, detain (etc) other players because they want to, so let them, i say. As far as im concerned, the main cause for banditry and KOS in DayZ, is simply because its the easiest way to survive. Playing as anything other then that, makes the game much more difficult, and lets face it, most gamers now a days dont want difficult and unforgiving. They want instant action and instant gratification, and that is what you get with banditry. But a dayz without bandits, would be like a hunting party without rifles, pointless.

Should I buy Arma II for Dayz mod or Dayz Standalone?
byrgesen replied to greenstar105's topic in New Player Discussion
In my opinnion, only buy Arma if you intend to play other things then DayZ mod aswell. Arma is an amazing game and the possibilities in there, are near endless. If you fell in love with DayZ and you dont want to play other Arma mods/missions, invest in the standalone. You are right that right now, the standalone's gameplay is limited, compared to the mod, but in the end, the standalone will be a whole other beast, much more complex and complete, as a game, then the mod could ever hope to be. The mod is also still in alpha stage and it will never go beyond that, updates are extremly slow, because its run by community developers, who update the game for free. I hope you can use my opinnion to something mate :) Best of luck. -
we know..... ohh we know you dont like the public hive..... do you have to go to every thread, remotely related to anything public hive, and spew your propaganda? we know..... let it go, the public hive is here to stay..... dean with it...... or better yet, go play on your private server and stop complaining? we know gibonez..... we know..... @OP Ive reported many servers aswell, sometimes nothing happens, sometimes the server is gone a week after. Keep doing it, you are doing an awsome job, protecting the community from "badmins", props to you for activily doing something. @everyone else complaining about the process. This is, what it is, at this stage in development and in all honesty "badmins" are so far from the biggest issue BI has at the moment. The game will survive a couple of months or even a year of abussive admins, while the game is being created. Then afterwards, BI can focus they're undivided attention to issues like this. At least that my honest opinion about the subject. Actively fight against "badmins", like anything else you dont like, with the tools we have at hand, and make the best of it, for the time being. It will improve at some piont, but using precious time and resources on this, at this moment, is pointless. Finish the game and then focus on punishing "badmins".
-
Well thats because its not really ment for private use :) For a security company or a military organization, its not expensive, when you think about the possibilities it adds. Now combine that with Oculus Rift and Omni Treadmill, and its as close to real life combat as it will ever get.
-
That is true, very true :) But its like this with every single game being developed, i call it "the greed in gamers" basicly. No matter what you do, its not good enough, it has to be bigger and better and just do more things. Gamers have no clue, as to what they actually want haha. But this is exactly why i keep saying we will get DLC's and expansions, with more content, more features and much more detailed game mechanics. Arma III is a great indicator of this, the expansions and DLC have added both new toys (items, vehicles) and completely rewamped and way more detailed mechanics and functions. Thats also why i say, this talk is kinda "redundant" right now, because DayZ isnt even half way through its development. Basicly we have an empty shell, a chasis if you will, but we still lack any kind of motor, stearing and litteraly almost all other details, that makes it come together to an awsome "car" in the end :) Dont get me wrong, i would LOVE if we have had DayZ based on VBS technology and i would love to have all the things you describe, but thats simply not possible, so Bohemia Interactive have no other choice but to work with what they have, they're version of the RV engine. While its limited in some areas, its far superior in others, i guess thats the tradeoff when it comes to choosing an engine. You cant have it all, and if you could, all games would run on the same engine, basicly hehe. The only way this would be possible, is if they either buy a license for a new and "better" engine (which will have other limitations) or they sit down and start over, which i seriously doubt they will. Or if they keep developing the game for the next 5 years, which IMHO seems like the most plausible option. EDIT: Sorry for the confronting post before by the way, its been a rough day!

The way you are writing it up, makes it sound like you have absolutely no idea how Bohemia Interactive handles they're games and how they support them. Looking at Bohemia Interactive's earlier games, its safe to conclude DayZ isnt gonna be a finished game, when we hit release of "full version". Its also safe to assume DayZ will be supported for many years, like the rest of the BI titles. Its also safe to assume, we will recieve either DLC's or Expansions, down the road, like the rest of the BI titles. *If these arent safe to assume, Bohemia Interactive will have changed the way they have been doing business, for the past 15 years, and i doubt it. And they will get revenue, as long as people rent servers. Again, this is not EA or Ubisoft, who throwns away games after launch and start working on new ones. And this is not a giant developer company, Bohemia Interactive is actually a quite small studio, compared to most who create AAA games. I completely understand what you are talking about, but i still completely fail to see the need for this talk, we dont even know what DayZ will look like in 3 years.

Examples? The only one i can think of, is books, but that does have an affect on gameplay aswell. This would have absolutely none, thats why i say its a waste of time really.
-
YOU know every item in this game, YOU have played it alot, YOU read the patch notes. Does that mean the other 2.893.137 players do the same? No, not at all. One glimse on these forums, prove that fact. Taking away precious development assest and time, to create a papir doll viewer, for the sole purpose of seeing what a coat looks like on your char, makes no sense, what so ever. Someone will proberly mod this, after release. I fail to see why Bohemia should waste time, on something that litteraly adds nothing to the gameplay (your own words)

Server hopping? Is there a solution? If not, what else....
byrgesen replied to rickyriot's topic in General Discussion
Did i ever say that??? oO I actually enjoy gearing up, most in this game. Yes you could have a fresh spawn on every single private server, aka 100.000 different chars. To me, this is not ideal, when i want to play with my buddies from across the atlantic, once a week, on different servers, with one single char. The fact remains, that the public HIVE is here because it provides easy accessibility to your character, ensures you have the same char across all servers and can play with anyone you want, when you want, regardless of server, nationality, timezone and char status. Giving up freedom for "false security" is the worst reason to give up freedom, ever. Not to mention the constant closing and opening of private servers, which means you're character is about as safe as the wallet is fat, of the server owner. -
Server hopping? Is there a solution? If not, what else....
byrgesen replied to rickyriot's topic in General Discussion
What about being able to play with anyone in the world, on any given server, at any given time?? Not to mention meeting new people, in every single game session, making encounters even more random and unpredictable?? Thats a pretty big plus, right there. Dont get me wrong, i love a good private server, it was the only place i spend my time in the mod, but that was because of the cheaters, not ghosting/server hopping. But taking away the option, to play with anyone, on any server, at any given time, because you dont want to be ghosted or dont want to see people server hop, is not fair for the rest of the player base. I can promise you theres at least as many people loving public servers, as there are hating on them. This discussion is exactly the same as 1pp vs. 3pp, its a matter of preference and play style. Im having trouble coming up with good suggestions to limit ghosting/server hopping, because it would punish the player base to much imho. -

Well, thank god Bohemia has an excellent track record, for supporting games, well after they're "prime time" then. This is not EA, whos only concern is churning out another poorly made "franchise" game, every single year. I think we will get 3-5 DLC's for DayZ, much like we did for Arma II and III. But i doubt there will ever be any "DayZ 2". Maybe in 10-15 years. @OP I dont see why BI would be "unreasonable if they weren't already thinking or even planning ahead for a proper sequel". Not to mention how bad an idea it would be to create a franchise, if not impossible really. Dont get me wrong, BF, COD and CS has its charms, but do you really want DayZ turned into a generic shooter, with minimalistic updates every year, hidden under a new tittle, at full price??? In my world that would burry the game completely and take away, the whole point, of creating the standalone, in the first place. So basicly you are saying that changes in DayZ is not possible, because it will require tremendous engine work and years to complete... Correct me if im wrong mate, but isnt this exactlty what they are doing right now and have been doing for the past 1.5 years??? AND will continue to do for at least another year?? I still fail, completely, to see the need for a sequal.
