As Server Perfomance will increase, what would you like to see first?
byrgesen replied to Sloddor's topic in General Discussion
Would love for them to give the Z's some loving :) We can wait with the loot and the increased player population. I think its time they showed us abit of whats in store Zombie-wise :) Just adding 100 zombies to the map, right now, would change the game entirely tbh. -
I believe its a known bug in the current build and its not intentional mate :) Wait for a fix hehe, not much else to do.

The reward is not having to find all the loot again :) I can see atm its quite boring to stay alive, but in a year i think it will be most important you stay alive as long as possible. Dont need any other rewards, thank you.

Sewing kit + different colored pens = tattoos (!)
byrgesen replied to carcinovich's topic in Suggestions
Why would you create a tattoo, in a post apocalyptic world, where nothing is sterile and you have no chance of keeping it clean while it heals? Why would you risk infection in the wound or potential blood poisoning, for a tattoo made with a single sewing needle? When would you have time to do this? Making a tatoo with a sewing needle is gonna take hours tbh. As cool as it may be, its just not worth it in a post apocalyptic world tbh. -
Mhh, yes and no :) This might be your idea of "doing it right", but some people find running around in underwear and harrashing other players "the right way" :) Thats the beatuy about this game, nothing is right or wrong, its all subjective to the situation you get yourself into :)

It would be awsome, but i doubt we will be able to mod DayZ as we have done with Arma. This game is much more "narrow" in terms of engine capabilities and what the clients are allowed to do. The whole reason you have Life missions (its a simple mission btw, not a "game" at all) is because the Arma engine allows clients to do what ever they want, basicly. In order to achieve what you want, we need to be able to turn off core parts of the game, ie Zombies, loot spawns, vehicle spawns and all the other stuff, theres no need for in Life, and rewrite it all to fit Life. I dont think we will be allowed to do this tbh. The other side of the "medal" is, will the authors of Life agree to port it to DayZ? Nobody can force them to do anything, and nobody can take what they have created (scripts, textures and what ever else) and use it, as they want. Its all protected by licenses, and to be perfectly honest, DayZ is frowned upon in the Arma community, because of all the "children and hackers" it brought to the game universe. Will it be possible? Dunno Will they want to do it? Dunno Will they earn money from it? No, most certaintly not

Im pretty sure you dont have to do anything and that its the GSP's responsibility to keep the server files up to date :)

I would advise you to read this thread mate :) http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/171306-explain-to-me-this-how-is-it-better-to-add-small-things-to-the-game-before-fixing-major-problems/ It basicly explains it for you.

Explain to me this. How is it better to add small things to the game before fixing major problems?
byrgesen replied to Rick1633's topic in General Discussion
Ok putting it simple mate: Thoose making the art for new items, cannot wait for someone to come along and fix the code, they still need to work. Thoose making the new code for new features, cannot wait for someone to come along and fix the old code, they need to keep working. Thoose "repairing" the buggy code, are on it, but it takes 100 times as long to fix a code then actually writting it. So basicly, you will get updates, with new content and new textures and what ever else, regardless of bugs or not. Bugs will get fixed in due time, but we cannot halt the entire development, because Z's arent working yet, that would be downright foolish lol.- 26 replies

You configs, for your "name" basicly. It saves no information about your actual character on the HIVE, its more user graphic settings and all that stuff, local stuff. You can delete the folder and log straight into your toon, but the graphics and controls will go back to default. -
Performance improvement - big step into the right direction!
byrgesen replied to Miquinei's topic in General Discussion
Ahh i see hehe. :) When i say decend im thinking well above recommended specs hehe. Well, most of whats happening in Life is player created, and since Arma needs to sync every single action, every single player makes, to everything on the entire map, it sucks up a whole lot of resources, on calculations basicly. In Arma you can be 15km away from one another, but the client is still sending and recieveing information, to and from the server, about everything. So if you kill someone, the clients 15km away will get this informationa aswell. So the more people you have doing something, the more information it needs to send and the more the server CPS (cycles per min, calculations basicly) drops, the bigger drop we see in server FPS, which then results in client FPS slowing down, because it has to wait for the server to recieve data. So when your client has to wait for to long on the server, you get desync, and theres nothing you can do about it. Thats the "bad part" about the Arma games, which then results in most missions not spanning the entire island, or using some spawn/despawn mechanics to lower object and "other stuff" going on, on the map :) This is one of the biggest reasons we see missions like Life and Domination, drop drasticly in FPS client side. The mission makers are constantly working on new and improved solutions, to "releave" the pressure on the server, from all the scripting. Some functions take up a ton of resources, and they should only be used if its really needed, where others uses next to no resources and they are to be used as much as possible :) This is where DayZ takes a HUGE leap. They finished the "network buble" so you arent sending information to a client in the NWAF, when you are standing in the middle of Cherno. This alone gave them alot more "room" in the server calculations, simply because it doesnt need to send the same amount of information anymore. So this ekstra "space" can be used on other things, like loot respawns, zombie respawns, etc. You mis understand mate. Everybody will feel some kind of improvement from this, theres no doubt. Even if you are on a crappy computer, but you might not notice as much of a difference, as the guy on a 1000$ rig :) Server side FPS is one of the most important aspects of the RV engine, and its one of the places they can "recover" a lot of resources, to use elsewhere. -

byrgesen replied to Miquinei's topic in General Discussion
Honestly, you dont even need a decend PC to "feel" improved server FPS on the RV engine :) Basicly if the server FPS is stabile and high, it will "rub off" on all clients, thats the exact same struggle we see with the Life/Domination missions for Arma. Finding the balance between good server FPS and good gameplay is the first step in the optimization process :) -

Well 5-10 more FPS on the serverside is a GIANT performance boost, be it DayZ or Arma. They are doing something right, thats for sure ;) -

byrgesen replied to Miquinei's topic in General Discussion
Good news indeed :) Im gonna try it out in a sec, but its definitely a step in the right direction hehe. Just goes to show, optimization is a long and drawn out process. The 5-10 was server side ONLY mate, so basicly if he has a bad ass rig, he could, potentialy, gain 20+ fps from this. Exactly like we see in Arma, if a server can hold a FPS of 40-50, all clients run awsome, with near perfect FPS. -

Are you actually able to start it? Ive seen this library some times before, when my brother logges into his account, but we have never been able to start the game, unless he actually owns it aswell. -
Would love more gore :) Would love to have bllod spatter stay in the world, after combat and all thoose things. But adding much more gore, could potentially make the game illegal in many contires :) Austalia is a good example, they are fucking strict about this stuff. Anyway, lets give it all we got a go full Postal style gore :D Love that game haha

What a display of pure manhood... -_- -
Bwahahahaha :D Thanks for todays laugh mate ;) "Shit" like this happens alot, to all of us hehe, no shame :)
-
Many things should be obvious, but the internet is an illusive bitch mate ;)
-
Yeh, but if it doesnt do this automaticly, based on your Steam ID, we have a serious problem :) Both for the legit players, but it certaintly could be a security risk aswell. @Quik19 If i where you, i would make a report on the bug tracker and see if anyone else is experiencing a similar problem. As i said, i will try logging in on a new pc, later on today, away from home, and see what happens :)
-
Hmm this is indeed troublesome. It should not happen, basicly nothing should be stored locally (except the Mainscreen char) and everything should rely entirely on your Steam Account, regardless of what name you have. We should consider getting more people to test this, it could both a gamebreaking bug, but also a security risk. Im gonna boot up my laptop later on today and test it out, from a different location then home. More people really need to test this tbh.

Same here, my good old stabile hardcore "toon" is still here :D
-
Ofc, im not completely retarded ;) But.... Have you been on the forums lately? People complain about everything :) Even 3pp, after Hardcore was introduced lol. I see your point and its a valid one, it might be a really good idea or it might bring more "crap" along, i cant say. I just dont think we have enough "dedicated" people to fill servers with such a setting tbh.
