    GlobalBan?

Alright, so we cant help you at all mate. Look at my post higher up and contact Battleye, thats your only hope, unless you want to buy a new copy. The CD-key you have has been used for cheating/hacking/scripting and has been banned by Battleye, only they can unban it :) Best of luck.

    Suggestion: Map

10+ hours is not enough, by a long shot, to know the map mate. It will perhaps be enough if you ONLY stick to roads and cities and NEVER EVER go into the wilderness, but proberly still not enough. You need alot more then 10+ hours of gameplay to memorize this map, thats for sure. @OP I think the way we find maps right now is good as is, BUT it should be easier to find maps in certain areas, like the airfields or supermarkets, just areas that would have maps laying around IRL. Perhaps increase the spawn rate of maps quite abit? I personally havent found a map for the past 25 hours of gameplay, going from the south coast to the east coast, through all the major cities. But we should need to find the map before we can view it, i dont want a map from the start.
  3. According to this, a full reinstall of steam fixes it mate. You are gonna have to redownload your games though, unless you backup the appdata folder in steam and run verification of the files after the reinstall ofc.

    GlobalBan?

Can you provide screenshots of this error? Its impossible to help you, based on the information you have given mate, we need to know the exact error. Did you run ALL of the Arma games before trying to run DayZ? You have to run both Arma II and Arma II OA at least once, before DayZ will launch. If its a globalban, you will be able to run the game just fine, but you should get kicked from servers with the message GlobalBan and a number behind it. If thats the case, you need to contact Battleye and appeal your case.

Should DayZ Be In The Armaverse?

Of course it belong in the Arma Verse. Heres the ArmaVerse Timeline, and you can clearly see a gap between 2013 and 2035 (from TOH to Arma III), could this be the years the infection took hold of some of the world? The start of Arma III is even refered to as "The Altis Incident" hehe, almost perfect for a conspiracy theory ;) And since Arma III is taking place on islands not connected to mainland, we have no idea what the rest of the world looks like in 2035, it could be that half of asia was infected or something like that. Im hoping BI finds a nice way to connect it to the ArmaVerse, it would just make sense, be it in one or two "timelines" i dont care, but with this amount of details in they're other games, it has to be done tbh.

    Simple combat logging soloution

It wont work in the current state of the game at least. Perhaps in 2 or 3 years lol, but right now persistant player position on log out would be a very bad idea. People might think abit more about where they log out, but this would only benefit larger groups/clans. Lonewolfes would be fucked, and they would basicly die every time you arent playing. We should not punish people for not playing, im very much against persistant player position. I dont really like OP's idea either, but i would however like to see the option to "sleep" ingame and then log out. However it should not be mandatory at all, its should be an option, perhaps giving you a "refreshed" status when loggin back in, after x hours?? This game is all about choices and options, we should not limit them, only create more for us to utilize. Either way, nothing like this would take care of server hoppers and combat loggers tbh.

    Logged in, stuff's gone

And dont forget when you log out, your character sits. So you might be prone at the logout, but as soon as you left the game your character will sit up for 30 secs and then log out. ALWAYS find some bush or something like that, something that will hide you well, when you are sitting up. It does sound like you where killed, its been a while since theres been reports of servers not loading/saving to the HIVE. Either that or you joined an "unofficial" server, which doesnt connect to the official HIVE :) Anyway, does it matter? As long as its not happening over and over and over? Rule #1 = Dont get attached to your gear ;) Try jumping on a completely new server, play for a while and relog to another server, to see if the "problem" is persistant mate.

    Central Hive Poll

Very true, but theres a big difference between a database server and a game server, expecially when we talk about a game as DayZ. The game server does nothing but send information and calculate information for the client and the DB, the DB is simple read/write MySQL. So it wouldnt make sense to save anything on the server, since theres no use for it there, it has to go to a DB. Even when we get private servers, you will still have to connect to a DB, thats simply the way the game was build :) Thats the reason they are making "private sub-HIVES", so the database wont be local, with the server files, but instead centralized and controlled by BI, most likely with limited admin acces to it. Local databases is the worst they could do, we have that in the mod and its a giant exploit just waiting to happen, security is extremly low and scripters have even been knows to run scripts which alter the database and effectively makes the server unusable for the admins/players. So hopefully private servers will still have to connect to the "central HIVE" we have now, but instead of connecting to the public shards, it connects to a private shard, the specific server was designated to use. And just to clarify, we only have 1 HIVE, there will most likely never be more then 1, but its divided up into so called "shards" (Rockets own phrase). Public-Regular Shard, Public-Hardcore Shard, Experimental-Regular Shard and so on. This is by far the most effective and most secure way of handling the database.

    Yesus the hacker

Its "impossible" to steal your game key, as we saw in Arma II, since the key isnt stored in the registry anymore and the only way of getting hold of it, would be to force your way into steams security. So far, theres been 0 evidence to support people stealing DayZ SA keys, exactly like theres no evidence people are stealing Arma III keys, because its not that simple anymore. It would require you to actually "hack" your way into Steam, and if that was simple, nobody would use steam tbh. Theres no way in hell, this guy can find all your steam information, based on the country you live in lol. Steam would be out of business if it was that simple, you cant be that paranoid mate. As you mention, its only if you start giving actual valuable information about your steam account, he can use it for anything. This is exactly the reason BI chose to make Arma III and DayZ steam dependable in the first place, because it eleminates cd-key theft as we knew it. As far as i know, when they are banned they buy a new game, exactly like we see in Arma III aswell. If you can find evidence, proving me wrong, please do so mate, as ive yet to find it.

    Central Hive Poll

You are missing the point mate. A "HIVE" is simply a database, most likely MySQL exactly like we saw in the mod. A public HIVE and a private HIVE is exactly the same, when you look at the way its build and maintaned, the only difference is the amount of servers connecting to the database. That is nothing more then a name it has recieved, we can call it what ever you like, but it wont change the facts :) So to clarify, nothing is saved server or client side, everything is saved on a database and when private servers comes along, it will be 1 server per database or "HIVE" as its called. Private servers will eliminate server hopping, on those servers ofc, but it will also severely limit the players to a single server, theres pro's and con's tbh. Its not false, DayZ wouldnt work without a HIVE, if they didnt reprogram the entire engine, which theres no point in doing tbh. This game needs a database to run, simple as that, its the only thing ensuring your character is saving and its the only place information is being saved.

    Zombie Bait/Lure

Dont forget whiskey bottles, empty cans and flares ;) Pretty much anything you could throw, would make a noise and attract them to it. Would rather want that then the system described by OP.

    Dayz SA server requirement

As far as server requirements, i think its way to early to say anything, especially with some of the engine optimization they have planned for the server. Any "good" server box, which can run an Arma server, should be able to run DayZ however, i doubt it will require much more then Arma in the end. As far as Linux server goes, Arma does support Linux, so theres a chance BI will want to make DayZ support Linux aswell, serverside ofc :) But so far we cant do much else then speculate about this tbh, nothing is "set in stone" hehe.

How can I fing my GUID (SA)?

So whitelist should be allowed, because theres alot of empty servers anyway? I fail to see the reasoning in that argument. Everyone can still join an empty server, only a select few can join whitelisted, and if DayZRP is allowed to whitelist, everyone should be allowed to whitelist. Which basicly means, 50-80% of the entire server list will be whitelisted and used for either Roleplaying, what kichilron said or other things, that could impact the public HIVE in a negative way. Lets face it, RP is a small percentage of the reason people wants to whitelist a server mate, its such a small minority in the community, most just wants to gun'n'run it. Also, consider when they implement the "loot economy", whitelisted servers would be the only place rare items or rare vehicles will exist, because they are "hidden" in a controlled environment. This is why ALL public servers has to be open to EVERYONE at all times, to "even the playing field" and give every single person that bought the game, the same opportunities, whether they start playing now or in a year. Why is it such a big problem to wait for the implementation of private servers?? This is an alpha game! See what you made me do there, i didnt want to pull the alpha card, but i had to...

    Took a Walk (April 5th)

Jeezz, how did i miss that  Gotta smoke less lol.... Sorry mate. But yeh, i do the same when im ingame hehe, havent played a whole lot yet, im playing the waiting game hehe. I love how you did them in first person, im a "1PP only" kinda guy, its just a whole lot better on this engine, especially in a game like DayZ, which has alot more tension then Arma tbh. Chernarus is beautiful, always was, but even more so in DayZ, i can spend a long time just looking at the cities and wilderness. I also enjoy the occasional "bush-wookie" session, just sitting in a bush and watching other people run around and do stupid things hehe, Cherno and Elektro are perfect places for this haha. Aww this thread is turning into a nice little place for "The DayZ Hiking Boys" rofl :D

    Took a Walk (April 5th)

This constitutes 80% of my time ingame lol.... Its so much fun to slow things down and enjoy the game, rather then making it a "get from a to b running simulator" kinda game :) Its such a beautiful game, people should try this once in a while, it might relieve some of the Alpha-Tension going around hehe. And a good weekend to you my friend, although its monday now? Getting confused haha :)

    David Attenborough Plays DayZ

Ive watched so many documentaries with David Attenborough, this is awsome :D Please make more haha,i loved people's reactions to you. "Your birthright is to claim these lands and my birthright is to claim your knee caps" - awsome sentence haha

    I'm possessed.

Ahh i see :) Well at least you know what caused it hehe
  19. byrgesen

    I'm possessed.

If they utilize automatic popups, it could be better, thats for sure. Well if they are shit, dont use it tbh :) Theres no telling what mall/add/spy-ware you can catch with a crappy browser.
  20. byrgesen

    I'm possessed.

So you had a pop up through steam with advertisements? Sounds like your on a dodgy website there pal. Automatic pop-ups is always a warning sign, so i would suggest not going to such websites in a "crappy" browser as steam.

    I'm possessed.

    Addblock, just saying ;)

Indication of which doors can and cannot be opened.

^^This Its very very easy to distinguish them from one another tbh :)

How can I fing my GUID (SA)?

Its not that anyone dislikes them or have a personal grudge against them, but rules are rules and they are "abusing" the public HIVE by controlling acces to a server connected to it. They can stay private all they want, when we get private servers, but what they are doing atm is wrong and can be seen as abuse and "illegal" tbh. If nobody cared about this, we would have half the server list either passworded or whitelisted and the open servers would be a nightmare. It simply doesnt make sense to allow people to "play private server" on the public HIVE, surely you must be able to see this, regardless of they're intentions.

Is the DayZ Mod better than Standalone?

Since we cant agree, its not a yes or no question mate. It depends on a lot of stuff tbh. But lets leave it there, no need to discuss it further.

    Moving steam to SSD

^this But it sounds like you forgot to change the steam directory, in steam it self. Go to: Steam -> settings -> Downloads -> click "steam library folders" & change your library path to the SSD library files, it should start auto updating all the games, after a restart. Although i would suggest the same aproach as Recklezz84 ;) Perhaps a complete format and reinstall of windows, after you backup your important files? Then install windows and steam on the SSD, assuming its big enough to handle the games you want installed. Im not sure theres a way to install steam on the HDD and then install and run DayZ from the SSD, might require some googling from your side OP hehe.
