We learn new stuff everyday :) Could the clouds be "warping" because of your FOV? Cuz' i have never experienced that before. They should work exactly the same way as in Arma III, because its the same piece of code taken from Take On Helicopters, and ive never seen it there either. @topic I have no idea how feseable it is to make clouds have shadows tbh. Dont even know if its possible with the vomuletric system they have, or if something new has to be coded.

After spawning i receive this "No Message Received"
byrgesen replied to NeoEonXx's topic in Troubleshooting
Make sure you have run Arma II and Arma II AO at least once before you try to open DayZ. Like DropBearChick said, dont download the Arma II OA Beta from steam, Either Commander og PWS (Play withSix) can download it for you. The "problem" with the steam beta is that its version 1.63 and its NOT backwards compatible with any other patches, which means you wont be able to play with it, because DayZ hasnt been updated to run with it yet. So basicly, download ALL of the Arma games (DLC if you have that aswell) and run each of them once, just get into the menu and then exit again. Once thats done, go download DayZ Commander or PWS and install the mod you want + beta patch. After that it should all work fine :) -
DayZ does have Volumetric Cloud system, same as Arma III not II, but someone else already mentioned that :) Both games got it from ToH btw. Source: http://dayzdev.tumblr.com/post/41444643504/this-is-the-first-update-when-i-have-sat-down-and As far as cloud shadows goes, i think its gonna be hard for them to create anything else then stencil shadows, due to the performance impact and if they arent visible to everyone, theres no point in adding it tbh. But i could be wrong. Would rather not have it then having stencil shadows, thats for sure hehe.

There are two kinds of people.. But it does sound nice though, shame im not playing regular. I dont find that many good books on hardcore though :/ -
Not could be, should be ;) I dont have a problem with people wanting to dual wield pistols, its a hell of alot easier to kill people dual wielding, especially of you are more then 10 meters away, compared to a guy using one pistol. Anything above 10m would be useless with dual wield, you cant hit anything accuratly, especially if you are moving and it will be even more useless if you have been running, so sure give us the option to dual wield, makes killing "nabs" so much easier hehe. The only time it would be usefull is if you run into someone inside a building and you are only a few meters away from him and if the guy has a rifle, you wont win with dual wield anyway :) So this is kinda useless, but would be fun none the less. Perhaps they can think about this option in a year or two, but right now it would be a waste of time tbh, theres much more "pressing matters" that awaits tbh.

Its actually something i miss alot from the mod, when you logged in: Just bring back the small text in the corner when you login, without the location of course, but just the days alive :) Miss it so much hehe.
-
Well your only words was "i dont get it" so it could be for a multitude of reasons :) And all i said was you dont have to be part of it, but just because you dont understand it, doesnt mean it should not be in the game tbh. You might not get it, but many others do. It was not a personal attack of any kind, although it sounds like you took it that way mate. I, personally, would love to dress up like a firefighter and RP that all the way, or dress like a doctor and run around pretending i know how to fix people who are injured or sick. Thats just how i like to play, but taht doesnt mean you have to do it at all. So basicly, why would they do it? because they can :) simple as that hehe.

At least something similar, almost anything is an improvement over the 3 step system we have atm :)
-
Hopefully we will end up with 1000's of different clothing items, ranging from plain civilian to very rare high end military gear, with all the inbetween stuff aswell hehe. Nobody is forcing you to RP anything mate, but some of us love RP so much we simply cant help it :) Just because you "dont get it" doesnt mean the 1.8 million other players dont get it either, remember people are very very different in this world and DayZ is the perfect game to reflect this.

Maximum priority on the development of vehicles in Dayz?
byrgesen replied to theprototypeOEZ's topic in Suggestions
Makes no sense to use any vehicles from Arma, when they want to create something much more complex. Why waste time porting over a vehicle, updating loot tables, implementing the loot into the engine and all the funtions for the vehicles, when they are to be removed anyway? All good things will come to those who wait. Remember that sentence in any early acces game tbh, its essential :) And tbh, if you dont want to run ingame for an hour to get from place a to b, im not sure this game is for you OP. Vehicles will not change that fact that 90% of all players still have to run, its not like we will get a vehicle each or that its gonna be easy to maintain them and gather fuel for them. I could also argue, that you dont have to run for an hour, theres plenty of places between the coast and the airfields, of interest. This game is gonna be in development for almost 2 more years, so you need to arm your self with patience and if its already running out, find something else to do in the meantime mate :) -
Give us the option to stand on our toes to look over object that are a little to tall, or peak over a low wall, when crouched. It could be a "all-in-one" key, like Dchil mentiones, but i tihkn its easier to implement a new stance system, as having one key for it, could potentially be really hard to code correctly. With a stance system, similar to Arma III, you could achieve this easily :)
-
Hopefully, when we get some vehicles, this will be a reality :) Just imagine driving a bus (example) and crashing it against a wall at full speed. It blows up, slings the bodies of players around it and perhaps even spawns some "random loot" around it aswell, based on the kind of vehicle it is? I wont mind this being player created, but give us a little help aswell, like spawning abit of loot next to a crashed vehicle, in the trunk or spawning some dead bodies with random loot on them aswell. Its understandable the devs wants this to be player created, like everything else, but a little help from they're side would be appreciated hehe.

I just want to say ive never ever had this problem in DayZ. I stick to 4 different Hardcore servers, never ever play on any other servers, so my best advise is to stick to a few number of servers atm. At least until its more stabile then it is atm mate. Keep 4-6 servers as your favorites, servers you know are saving proberly, and you are over this issue mate.

So i was insulting you? how? cuz i missed that lol..... I ask you, how does a stance system have anything to do with a "military simulator" as you call it? Take your friends to a paintball game and see them use a different stances, without any kind of military training mate, its called common sense tbh. People want to hide them selves if someone is aiming a gun at you, be it military or survival aspects, so i just cant see the connection to "military simulator" as you call it. And how is improving the stance system "adding every damn piece from the Arma games"?? Again i dont understand what you mean, we are talking about improving the game, making the character alot more responsive and fluent. Adding more controls to Arma III did NOT make it more clunky, what so ever, so again your argument is invalid. Saying you dont want an improvement on the stance system, because it will become more clunky, is very naiv tbh. They did it with Arma III, so why shouldnt they be able to do it with DayZ? Its basicly the same engine, just a different branch of it, and i think we can all agree that character movement is well overdue for an overhaul, to make it more fluent. Regarding consoles, they should not hold back on idea because they might, sometime in the future, if the sun and planets are alligned correctly, port it to console. Thats counter productive tbh and tahts not how you develop a game, primarily for PC. Remember, consoles is way out in the future and i have to admit if people can use an Xbox controller in Arma III, i do think they will be able to do the same in DayZ really.
-
So you are rejecting the idea because it comes from a game, from which DayZ is based upon?????!!! This has nothing to do with "DayZ becomming Arma", this has everything to do with adding more options to DayZ, and you dont need to be a fully trained ranger to peak over or around a wall really, now you're just being silly dude. As for the clunkyness of the stance system, have you even played Arma III? EVERYTHING related to player movement is way more smooth in Arma III then it has ever been in either Arma II or DayZ, so your argument is as invalid as it can possibly get here. Ohh and dont use insults just because you cant argue your case, its easier not to post anything tbh.... As far as im concerned, this is a very important to DayZ as it can change the way people interact with the enviorement completely and it will most certaingly add more immersion to the game. We need something like this in the game and i do believe we will get something along these lines, perhaps not a "copy/paste" of the stance system from Arma III, but something similar, as the current system isnt suffecient tbh.

A tool to simplify reporting dodgy servers
byrgesen replied to Gruso (DayZ)'s topic in Server Advertisement
It is easier to use this simply because you dont have to find the email of the ISP and everything is arranged so the email it sending off is formated exactly the same way each time, making it easier for the GSP to keep up with reports. If thats not simplifying a reporting process, im not sure what it is mate. It makes it easier for the user (dont have to find email of GSP) It makes it easier for the GSP (Each report has the exact same layout, making browing through them faster and more effecient) Its easier to use with the Steam Overlay, then any online/offline email client aswell Im not sure why you need to "hate" so much. If its not your cup of tea, move on dude. As Gruso said, you are borderline trolling with this "crap" tbh. Ohh btw, i wanted to also resurrect this thread, as its a good tool for us users to report bad servers, it needs more exposure for sure :) -
Forum Suggestion: Required posts to start a new topic
byrgesen replied to byrgesen's topic in Suggestions
Well, thats true, although looking at other forums which has a post limit prior to posting a topic, i rarely find spam there. I dont know if the spambots in general just wants to start new topics, but it seems like it. Its still worth a try tbh, even if it only removes 50-80% of the spambots, its a triumph. This is not only a problem here, but also in the feedback tracker, due to the "guests can post" functionality. But thats another discussion, taking place here. -
I need help! "Unable to locate a running instance of steam" DayZ Standalone.
byrgesen replied to staph24's topic in Troubleshooting
Understandable, but this is early acces, so its not a waste, as you will get the full game when its released, at a lower price then if you buy it then :) I can understand its not fun you cant play atm, but trust me when i say, theres not a whole lot to play anyway tbh. Wait atleast till the next patch and see if it fixes anything, its gonna be in development for a long time, almost 2 years, so theres plenty of time to fix stuff like this :) -
We arent talking about key positions, we are talking about knowing the entire map, as the back of your hand and always know your way around. Ive spend hundreds of hours in Arma II and DayZ in Chernarus, but i can still get lost once in a while. Perhaps im bad at navigating? true :) But thats my point. Some people need 10 hours, some need 100+ to memorize it, so saying 10 hours to learn the map is enough, just doesnt cut it for the 1.8 million players we have tbh. Now im not suggesting we should start with a map or anything like that, im just saying some people really need maps in this game, some dont, but most people will.

Forum Suggestion: Required posts to start a new topic
byrgesen replied to byrgesen's topic in Suggestions
Ahh i see, i didnt know you had to manually validate these posts, it makes it alot more work then i thought it would be. But im happy you are looking at it, wasnt expecting anything else tbh :) EDIT: I just realized BI forums have this feature, perhaps they are willing to share some information on the subject? I doubt they are manually validating people's posts, as there arent a whole lot of moderators over there either. I can be wrong though, but it wouldnt hurt to ask :) -
PM an administator like Boneboys :) He should be able to help you out mate.

I need help! "Unable to locate a running instance of steam" DayZ Standalone.
byrgesen replied to staph24's topic in Troubleshooting
Yeh sorry, didnt catch that in the OP. Hmm then i dont really know what to do :( -
Most people dont even know how to find south without a compas mate, so it doesnt work like that really. :) You might need only 10 hours, but that doesnt mean everybody needs 10 hours to memorize the entire map tbh. A lot of people are having alot of trouble reading the road signs aswell (not complaining) so that doesnt really add up either. And i can promise you, knowing russian has helped you ALOT in this game with the roadsigns :) I also know about the size differences between the maps, but keep in mind the Arma maps are far more detailed then the Just Cause 2 map, it makes a big difference. Im not trying to start a fight or anything, im just saying in general people need more then 10 hours of gameplay to memorize Chernarus, if they have never seen it before.

Yeh im afraid so mate.
