Would You Support A Gun Shop Loot Location?
byrgesen replied to Katana67's topic in General Discussion
I am against anything that "centralizes" the spawns. Im my opinion everything should be able to spawn everywhere, with different % chances ofc. This would do nothing, but remove the need to search any other building tbh. We already see this trend with the military areas, since people run directly from the beach to these places to get guns, before they even start to find food or anything. A building like this would make that trend even worse, giving people even less reason to loot residential houses. No thanks. -
This patch is littertly game breaking.

Not just general strain, more like over the top insane overload on the entire system, according to the devs at least :) The rest i agree with mate, well written. -

Then you havent looked hard enough tbh mate :) Theres a ton of posts with people loosing gear, getting characters reset and spawning on the beach for no reason. This is as i understand it: The timer started out as a simple combat log prevention mechanic, and they then realised they needed to do something about the character loading/saving, because more and more people are complaining about this, loosing items, complete character wipes, etc. So as i see it, they extended the combat log timer to give the database much more "time" to work with, as far as i know they are using MySQL for the DB, like the mod and it can only go so fast, so with almost 2 million people trying to retrive information from the database, it is under really heavy pressure. So they added more time to the combat timer (as i understand it increases if you switch server alot?) to first of all, try to give a clear sign to people that they dont really want them to change server that often and second, to give the database alot more time to handle the many queries. This means the entire system is abit more stabile for now, but they need to come up with a better solution to handling the traffic to and from the DB, and the logging timer will give them the "space and time" needed to develop such a thing. Sure its not the most optimal solution, its kinda quick and dirty, but it works and theres a very good purpose to it AND it wont be like that forever imho. The process of logging into a server is the number one stress factor for the entire server and database system, because its the only time it will ever send such a large amount of information. So if people where to log in and out conteniously, without a timer, data will get lost in the "clusterfuck" it creates. Also, it prevents lag and desync since logging into a server is also the number one factor for this to happen. Thats how i understand the entire situation :) -

Maybe you should aquire some patience, you where told this game isnt gonna be finished untill 2015, so why the rush? Would you rather they just make quick and dirty fixes and release a broken game faster? Alpha doesnt mean fix it, it means add more crap on top of the already smelling pile of crap and see what happens, are you new to early acces games? Beta means fix what we broke in alpha, and make it stabile enough to release. You cant just take alot of money and hire a "magic scripter guru", especialy on an engine such as this. It takes many years to learn your way around it, and we dont have time for that, thats why they are using people who knows the engine. But you also has to realize they are trying to make this engine do things it has never ever been designed to do or even remotely done before. And i just want to clarify something, you are taking a break from a very early alpha, because theres bugs? Awsome..... You are misunderstanding it. It doesnt matter how long you have been on a server, that is not the point. The point is that the way they have the servers and the database (HIVE) communicating atm, is causing a giant stress on the entire system and they have made this timer, aka "the quick and dirty fix" in order to releave some of the stress on the system, untill they can create a better solution. But they cannot create a better solution untill they optimize the server abit more and make it more stabile, so its an ongoing process which will take a long time to accomplish. Basicly what happens during the timer is, you get queued to retrieve information from the database, if this didnt happen 9/10 people would not load they're gear correctly. So instead of having nearly 2 million people trying to retrieve data at the same time, the database can handle it one query at a time, making the whole system much more stabile. Its not hard to understand, its the exact same issue as in the mod and frankly if people cant wait a small amount of time, to ensure you are loading your character correct, while a better and much more robust solution is being worked on, you have to teach yourself to be more patient. -
Forum Suggestion: Required posts to start a new topic
byrgesen replied to byrgesen's topic in Suggestions
I just want to "revive" this suggestion. Still nothing to do about it? It seems to be getting worse tbh, and since your captcha isnt working as intended, i think its time to reconsider doing something along these lines. -
Waiting for host / Session Lost / Lag and Desync since last patch
byrgesen replied to icetneo's topic in Troubleshooting
But..... BE does not handle signature verification, the server does. Just wanted to clarify that, theres never been a connection between BE and signature verification in any of the RV engine games. Although your "fix" might work, but if it works then its releated to BE and the GUID check. Not the .pbo signatures. :) -

It has already been adressed, why zombie glitching will take a long time to fix, so thats out of the question. The "broken" melee atm is the result of ongoing testing to find the best solution, so it is obviously being looked into. The damage of weapons are being tweaked constantly, but none of them are useless imho, its a matter of use and oppinion. So i have no other choice atm..... alpha! See what you made me do there? alpha! early acces! still in development! NOT beta! NOT a finished game! Im having a hard time understanding why you deside when its not alpha anymore mate, as far as i can see you have nothing to do with either the dev team or BI in general. It took them well over a year to create what DayZ is now, how can they just "magicly" make the rest of the game in 6 months? Be realistic, its not a big dev team, its not a multi billion dollar company like EA or Ubisoft. -
Theres a very very very good reason for the timer, did you read this? http://www.reddit.com/r/dayz/comments/23tzhy/just_spent_a_few_hours_on_stable_here_are_my/ch0rhzj
-
Sounds like you should play wasteland mate. Either in Arma II or III? This does open up the question, whether or not we will actually be allowed to remove zombies through mods? We dont know, they might restrict it for some reason.

You might want to contact the server admins, so they can take a look at the logs and investigate the problem :) -

Take 36 mins of your life and watch this mate, it will tell you all you need to know :)

Well, im just thinking since we didnt get it in Arma III, we should not hold our breath here tbh. Arma III is by far a way more realistic shooter then DayZ ever was, which is a shame. I hope they stay away from the "arcadish" solutions in the future, but we simply dont know :)

How can i change the language of the game?
byrgesen replied to audax's topic in New Player Discussion
Dont know about that :) Ive always used the configs in the Arma games, and its basicly the same here hehe -
Im still waiting for the supressive effect ingame. Im guessing i will have to wait for mods though hehe.

So you installed x32, at least 3 times, yes?? :P

Wasn't this stable branch alot more stable in experimental?
byrgesen replied to yorkmorgan's topic in General Discussion
Well, as low a ping as possible, obviously. I never ever join anything above 70 ping :) Every time i log on, i wait for everything to load, it does seem to take abit longer in .44 though. Once loaded i run like the wind for at least 30 secs. If i dont rubberband, i add the server to favorites basicly, i find this to be a very good sign. Thats the general "routine" i use to find a good server and then i stick to it. Ive got 3 servers in my favorite atm and i dont have any trouble with them. I also tend to find servers of "medium" population, 15-25, simply because theres less people joining and leaving. Joining and leaving a server is the number one cause of desync and lag, it was the same in the mod, thats basicly why theres a 500 sec timer now :) -
Ohh you can get XP 64-bit ;) Its more a DirectX issue tbh, will it be 10/11 only or will it still support 9? Dunno. But XP only support 9. Although microsoft is running windows XP on life support atm, in a year its gonna be a wonderworld for viruses, malware and even "hobby activists", due to the "no more updates" policy micrsoft has. So you are basicly right hehe.

Ahh yes, im thinking of advanced vehicles :) Sorry about the mixup hehe

Wasn't this stable branch alot more stable in experimental?
byrgesen replied to yorkmorgan's topic in General Discussion
Well, we dont know the difference between the official experimental servers hardware, and what the GSP's are using tbh. One could speculate that the experimental servers are more powerfull because: Theres a limited number of them, so its easier and cheaper to maintain them? BI is in direct control of these servers and might run them a tad bit differently, then the GSP's, for testing pusposes? We have no garantee that ALL of the GSP's are using the exact same hardware as the experimental servers, not to mention the resource amount (ie. several server instances running on each box, with x cores and x ram dedicated to it) I want to add, i havent set foot on experimental at all yet, so i only have the stable branch to talk from, and i stick to a very limited amount of servers, which i know are running awsome with next to no lag/desync and no rubberbanding. -
Roadmap said Q4. Cars / Trucks / Planes / Helicopters / BoatsUpgradable componentsSimilar approach as weapon attachmentsEDIT: So if we are lucky, we will get it by January 2015 :D

Can log onto official servers but not Unofficial/private hives
byrgesen replied to maniak-e's topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
When you go your main menu of DayZ, does it say 1.62.xxxxxx or 1.63.xxxxxx for the Arma version? The "problem" lies in the betas mate. Some servers have updated to the newest, but the newest is the 1.63 Arma II AO beta, which isnt backwards compatible with any other, so you are only able to log into the server which is running it, but not the ones which is running an older version. In fact nobody should run with the new betas, as DayZ isnt designed for them and could potentially break, but people do it anyway. EDIT: Just looked it upo, the beta you have is 1.62 as far as i can see, so i would assume the servers you cant join are running the 1.63 beta patch. BI really did fuck it up abit there for the end game user tbh, but its down to the server owners to not update it, unless specifically told to by the mod developer, and since vanilla hasnt gotten any updates for a very long time, you are using the right beta patch for that, but it appears the server isnt. You can update your beta patch, but some of the new updates could potentially break the mod, thats why it isnt advised. Is it possible for you to see the Arma II version of the server you want to join? You can download the Arma II OA patches manually from here: http://www.arma2.com/beta-patch.php -
So i voted "wut" and then read your post, which in hindsight wasnt the brightest idea ive had lol. I actually like it. In terms of coding, it should not be to hard to "replace" a cloth item with a folded cloth item, exactly like a can got replaced by an empty can in the early build of the game. It would be interesting to fold up clothes and lay it in the street and watch some poor sod run to it and then go "wait a minute....." before you either kill him or run after him with an axe while screaming (i prefer the screaming axe tbh)

If modding was allowed right now, we would end up with the same issue as we did in Arma III development. Mods breaking after EVERY single update and mod creaters getting pissed and abandoning they're creations for a later time. With the amount of core changes in the game, it would be foolish to start mod creation atm. Theres a 100% chance the mods will break multible times before a stabile release client for the game comes along. The best thing is to wait untill they are much later in the development, and have many more of the core features nailed down.
