Mod is still better than the SA

So when are people gonna realise that making a mod for an already finished game, isnt the same a re-writting an entire engine to fit the needs of a new game??
  2. As i see it, its not a new product, its an upgraded product. If theres any code left, from the original product, its not new, its an upgrade. I can agree with the fact that it looks and acts like a new product, but in reality its an upgraded product, which isnt a new one in my world. I think we will see the modding in DayZ will be very similar to the modding we have seen in Arma, in terms of the code being used and the way assets are being created, which means the base for modding and code handling hasnt changed much, which means its not a new product, but an updated one :) Ofc course theres gonna be big differences, but we will also see many simularities between the engines. This is of couse pure speculations (regarding modding) but looking at the file structure in DayZ, it looks and acts very similar to the one we see in Arma. Both are similar file extensions, both are handled in somewhat the same way, it just have a different set of functions. If we are to see a game that is fundamentally different then what we have already, with the RV engine, we can talk about having a "new product", but as long as it still looks and acts the same way, its merely an upgraded version in my world :)
  3. Quote from Hicks: http://www.reddit.com/r/dayz/comments/27umee/before_everyone_loses_their_collective_shit_omg/ci4mpsj?context=1 So in fact, you could not be more wrong :) Just wanted to show the actual reference Mos1ey was talking about. Well, when you write something entirely new, from scratch, its a new product. Why do you think most software has versions? They start somewhere and improve and improve and improve, untill its far from the base code they started with, but as long as some of the base code is still there, its still an updated version of said code. Take photoshop for example, theres a GIANT difference between PS CS1 and PS CS6, but its the same base code, the same base product basicly, which has been improved. Same goes for the RV Engine, it started with RV1, now we are at RV4, same concept. They got to a point now, where the engine running in DayZ is so different from the RV engine, they want to rename it and develop it even further, but that doesnt mean its a brand new product. Its a modified and upgraded version, with a more specific target in mind. So as long as they havent written every little bit of code, from scratch, its not a "new product", its an upgraded version of the old product.

DayZ moving to new engine - ENFUSION

So i found this in reddit, by Hicks: http://www.reddit.com/r/dayz/comments/27umee/before_everyone_loses_their_collective_shit_omg/ci4mpsj?context=1 So its not a "new engine", they have basicly modified the existing RV engine so much, and plan to modify it more in the future, so it has been given its own name. Its just Rocket, who has no idea how to explain things like this, and tend to go abit over board with his statements, perhaps trying to create more hype?? We already have the new engine, Infusion is powering DayZ as we speak and it will change alot more down the road. Just dont expect to wake up one morning and see DayZ has scrapped everything and started over, thats now what this is about :) We already have the foundation of the "Infusion Engine" layed out (pretty much), now they just need to build the sky scrapper on it hehe.

Suggestion: logging out like in MMO

Ok, so how about a logout timer with a black screen and no sound? So you cant see anything at all, and cant react to anything you see. My problem with your suggestion is you are giving people an easier way to combat log, simply because they will be able to see everything and stop the logout timer, if they spot something they dont like, aka you can log out in places you wont be able to log out from atm.

    Silence while unconscious/dead.

Is this on experimental or stabile? Ive never played on experimental, and ive never encountered this on stabile either.

    How to survive?

Thats what he ment :) Tbh just look for supermarkets and the few houses you can enter, you will learn what ones quickly. A good trick is look at the windows, if they are see through you can enter, if they arent, you cant enter :) And ofc you can always drink from the many wells and ponds around the map.

    Silence while unconscious/dead.

Can you really hear things when you are dead? ive never been able to tbh. Only while unconcious, but that should be removed, as suggested :)
  10. This happens because the addon you are trying to join the server with, isnt signed by a key in the server. You should only download mods/addons from a "official" site or place, if you do that they will work just fine. So either you are trying to join a non-epoch server, with the epoch addon enabled, you have downloaded the epoch files from a "non-trusted" site or you have edited and repacked the files your self. The only way to fix it, is to download the official Epoch again, or perhaps the server you are trying to join is running theyre own modded version of epoch, you can download somewhere?

Suggestion: logging out like in MMO

It should stay as is. Theres no reason to give people that level of control, when they log out. Force them to find a safe spot, like they do now, and it works for the best of all players.
  12. Still, 9/10 locks can be opened with a crowbar or a hatchet, if you really want to :)

    play style shaming...

As far as im concerned, you can play how ever you like. But exploting known bugs, like seeing through walls and dupping ammo, is pretty much the same as hacking and cheating in my world, and i would ban for that, if i could :) I also dont like people who do nothing but KOS, because i feel theres so much more to this game then just killing everything that moves, and those people are "wasting" they're time in this game, but on the other hand, it wouldnt be the same without them, so we need them aswell.

    Destructible enviroment

In a way its not true destructible. In arma things have always been "replaced" by other models, when destroyed, rather then actually falling apart. Both the buildings and vehicles, change models when destroyed, and we are most likely to see the same happening in DayZ. Its not a bad thing tbh, it would be awsome if we had true destruction, but the engine was never build to handle anything like that, so we will most likely never see it happening. We can live with the level of destruction we have atm, its perfectly fine. I still wonder though, can we destroy the new buildings they put in to the game? Have they made "destroyed models" for that yet? And will we actually get explosives in the end to do so? :)

    Framerate?

Sigh.... Did you play Arma III during alpha and beta? It ran exactly as crappy as DayZ does right now, and since its a branch of the same engine its a very good game to compare with, since they are doing alot of the same stuff, under the hood. Like Mosley says, the RV engine in notorious for doing a TON of CPU calculations, and it has ALWAYS been CPU intensive, like crazy, no news there. But they are trying to make the engine do something it has never done, or even been designed for, atm, so its understandable it takes time to "make it fit" so to speak. Its fine to compare PS2 to DayZ, but keep in mind the game handles object in a much different way, along with rendering. I will bet PS2 doesnt render everything within range of the player, and if it does, theres far less object? Because thats what DayZ does atm, and thats why you get FPS drops when you look at a city. Basicly the game is rendering the loot, 1,5 km away, inside a building, even though you have no chance of seeing it. Thats why they are in the progress of disconnecting the renderer from the simulation, so they can change that and possibly replace the render with a much newer and more effective version. Saying the size of the map has nothing to do with performance, is like saying speed has nothing to do with killing people, when they drive into a wall. Ofc it has something to do with performance, or we would have more games out there with giant worlds, which could run on a 1980's pc.... But you seem to forget, that theres a million other factors here. Thats why they created the "network bubble", thats why they want 64-bit, thats why they want to disconnect the renderer from the simulation and thats why its an (BAM BAM BAM) alpha....

    Enhanced server management

Would it be possible? sure. Would it be a waste of time and resources? sure. Tbh, something like that could be done, but the end result would not be worth the time and resources spend on making it imho :) I think you are gonna have to wait for modding, if the will allow us to mod the loot tables ofc. I doubt BI will spend time on something like this.

    question about "hive"

That is correct in a sense, but theres only one HIVE, which is the main SQL database, hosted by BI. Within that HIVE we have so called Shards, which is stabile regular/hardcore and experimental regular/hardcore (4 of them atm). When we get private servers, they will be another Shard in the HIVE, and by doing that BI will have total and complete database acces and control.

I MUST GO, MY PEOPLE NEED ME

Yeh propelling rocks are the worst :D Dont ever trust rocks, ladders or even doors in this game, they are out to kill you!!
  19. Not a bad idea, but you should be able to open it with a crowbar or hatchet tbh. It doesnt take much to kill a lock with such a tool :)

Sometimes your "magic forum quotes" makes me spit out my food lol. :D

    Rocket said

And this is exactly why i have complete confidence in Bohemia and Dean. Keep it in the niche genre, like the Arma games (NOT Arma 3), and it will be a great game. If they do it right, it will live as long as cold war assault, with a dedicated community, keeping it alive and running.
  22. I wonder why they even bothered to allow it to launch without beta patch, as its clearly a requirement for the mod to actually work :) Always open with beta patch, or you will not be able to connect to any server, on the server list.

    [HELP] Optimal Settings?

Tbh its really hard to give you a specific answer, because DayZ behaves so differently, depending on your setup. What you should do is, tweak around with it yourself. Once you get the PC, set the 3D rendering to 100% and start with everything on the lowest, then gradually increase it until you are happy with the result. Its impossible for us to tell you how it will run, especially with the changes that happen ingame atm. You are correct that some changes will affect the GPU more then the CPU, but the CPU will always work its ass off in any RV engine game. The setting which affect the GPU more, are the visual settings, such as bloom, PP, AA and so on. At least this is the best advice i can give :) Its always been a hassle to set up any Rv engine game really, it takes a long time to find just the right setting, but when you find it, its amazing :)

Experimental patch being released as stable?

Didnt they mention this in the latest devblog? Something about aiming for a montly stabile release, much like we see project zomboid or prison architect doing? Im pretty sure, although i also recall them saying it wont get released if its to buggy.
