It happens. In the mod, me and a group of friends, drove up and down the beach in a bus, kidnapping bambii's. We then drove them to green mountain, where we had made an arena from barbedwire, in the middle there was a tent full of axes. They where told only one could leave alive and they had to fight to theyre death, and so they did :) Its was very fun, both for us but also for the people participating hehe.

As far as im concerned, it great the way it is now imho. Killcam doesnt belong in this game, it will be abused like a mofo by clans and groups. Theres no reason to show us our own corpse "ragdolling" it after death. People will use it to pass on information, to others. Once you are dead, you are dead. You should not be able to pass on ANY kind of information about your body, who is near it or what is happening. It will only be abused. Kill message could be an option, but i would not like to see anything along the lines of: "You where shot by a mosin, from 600m, by Player X" More Like "You heard a sharp crack and felt a pinch in your neck. It all went black after that.!" Same as before, black screen with "You are dead", nothing else. The zombies in this game arent undead. Think infected humans like we see in 28 days/weeks later :) So that is out of the question, as the player is immune to the virus and cannot turn. Same as now, you load a gun and put it up to your head, BOOOM, black screen. Im not trying to piss all over your parade, but most of what you are suggestion opens up for a butload of metagaming and would give an unfair advantage to anyone playing in a group. Theres no need for any of this stuff in DayZ tbh, we dont need to see who shot us, we dont need to see a killcam, we dont need to see who loots our body afterwards. All these suggestions will not make it a better game, it will only give people in groups more tools to do metagaming, which is already bad enough tbh. No thanks, this does not belong in DayZ

I bet you they are gonna use the signatures like they have done in arma 2 and 3. Modders will have to create it and it will be distributed with the mod, to server admins. Thats what they are doing now with the public servers. The only purpose the signature has, is to prevent people from joining with unwanted or edited files.

You have every right to be skeptical :) My faith in Dean him self, have dropped abit, but i have a lot of faith in BI, as ive enjoyed theyre product for many years and im quite impressed with what they have created in the past. That being said, some problems have been very persistant in the RV engine BI Studios have used for the games, but i believe that is the very reason they are stripping the engine and building it up again, they want to fix some of the bugs in the engine and expand its capabilities. Will they do it? Nobody knows at this point, but they are definitely heading in the right direction. We can give our input and let them know what our whishes are, but in the end its not our desicion, how this game comes out. We cant do anything but keep up with the news and updates, and have faith in the end product tbh :)

More like a branch of RV, which only caries over the basic algorythms in the core engine. When they are done with it, its gonna be so far from RV, it deserves its own name. Everything else is being build from scratch, to meet the requirements of the game. Thats why we dont have respawning loot, respawning zombies, zombies at all actually, vehicles, and what ever else we had in the mod. They took RV3, took it apart, put a little RV4 in there and starting expanding the current framework, so its not really a new engine, we already have it :) Everything they mention is gonna come into the game, one bit at a time, over the next 1-2 years, so just sit back and see how it unfolds.

Rocket makes statement about Navmesh/Zombies/Animals and Respawning
byrgesen replied to Irish.'s topic in General Discussion
Not the ladder thats for sure :) NEVER trust ladders, they are backstabbing COD noob's, who wants nothing but to kill you. But this is awsome news, im quite impressed how the team have picked up the pace in the last couple of weeks. -
Ive used the latest beta driver, for the past 1-2 years and been very happy with it. It seems to bring good performance and i rarely, if ever, crash in games because of it. Right now im running: 340.43 I actually think Nvidia made it mandatory to install with one of the newest driver updates anyway :) But i only use experience to download and install drivers, super easy and works like a charm. Screw that "auto adjust" feature, 99% of the time its setting it to low tbh.

What Do You Think About The Long Spawning Time ?
byrgesen replied to Sir Trolle's topic in General Discussion
As far as im concerned, its not long enough :) Any incentive to keep players on one server and prevent then from server hopping, is welcome. I only play on 2 different servers, never leave the server during a play session and its very possible to survive and find loot. Ive never understood the "i need gear as fast as possible" server hopping mentality tbh. It doesnt matter if it takes you 3 hours, a day or a week to get the gear you want. Enjoy the journey :) -
Question about the certainty of this game
byrgesen replied to TomatoSupra's topic in General Discussion
I have high hopes for this game, and so far i think its going in the right direction. We have a newly created dev team, working with a heavily modified version of Real Virtuality, trying to do something the core engine was never designed to do, and most likely something most of the developers havent tried doing before. They needed time to find they're way, figure out how to work together and how to make progress together, which the few past patches have shown, is going really well now. I agree, the model for releasing games in an early state and hope to finish is a "bad trend" and it entirely depends on "wow'ing" the costumer with fancy words, cool pictures and bit of actual gameplay. Most of the games in Early Acces should simply not be played yet, but people are eating them up like a fat kid at a candy store (sorry), with no concern as to what they are paying for. Some complain, some doesnt care. Sometimes the complaints are legit and justified, sometimes they arent. My personal opinion os this game, is that it has a looooooong way to go, but it has so much potential and the developer has show me, in the past, they can create quality games, but it takes a long time. With the "money injection" they got from the massive sales, they can now do things they had only dreamed of doing when they started. They bought another studio and hired a buttload of new people, i think i remember a tweet by rocket mentioning 160 team members or something, could be wrong :) But i have faith in this developer and in this game. When we are at this discussion, have any of you guys seen this video? Its really worth it, as it explains the problem with the "modern day" video gaming industry, in detail :) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XZxXEidtxHk -
Your best bet is for them to fix it, as this sounds like a bug with the skins, which you cannot fix. :)
-
The best thing they could do is to start to actually enforce the rules of the game :) They dont need to start hosting anything, they just need to start shutting down the 100's of "illegal" servers and make an example out of them tbh. They need to coorperate better with the GSP's, thats for sure, as BI set the rules its they're responsibility to enforce them imho, not the GSP. And the current "report a server" system is obviously not working as they wanted it to, a quick glance at the server list backs this up quite well hehe.
-
Exactly my point aswell :) Have some beans good sir hehe :beans: :beans:
-
But the problem is that its still private people who pays for official public servers :) BI doesnt host any servers, except experimental ofc.
-
But the thing is it will always have something in common with the RV engine :) The fundamental engine isnt gonna change, they are just adding more and better stuff on top of it, like a new psychics system and a new renderer, and of course making the engine handle the things it needs to handle better. Like when they made the network bubble last year. But the way it handles models and configs, will not change. Neither will the file extension, nor the way it handles the PBO files :) So i understand what you are saying, but its not so far from the "old engine", at least not far enough for me to actually call it new. If you want to call it new, be my guest :) I just refuse to call something new, when its an improved version of something else hehe.
-
But i was refering to a specific car :) Not just cars in general hehe. I get your point though mate, still think its sad people want to call something new, which isnt new at all :) Alright maybe cars was a bad choice of comparison :) Because they are actually changing fundamental parts of the vehicle, from year to year, which isnt the case with DayZ. The base engine is gonna be the same, they will however get new psychics, new renderer, new mechanics and new models. But things like inventory, the way you pick up loot, the way the guns shoot, the way it simulates bullets, file extensions and so on and so on, will not change to anything new. And thats is the core of the engine. Like the quote i got from Wiki clearly states that psyshics and the renderer isnt actually part of the core engine :) We can agree its something we need, but it is also something we have been told would be developed since the very beginning of development last year :) In my world it will never be new, it will always be a branch of the RV engine, an updated and modified version of it, to fit a specific need. And i doubt BI will ever release it for sale, they havent done that before and some of the RV technology is still owned by BI Simulations, which makes a GIANT amount of money on military contracts around the world. Dont think they want theyre software in the hands of anyone else tbh :) Could be wrong but i really doubt it hehe. So by that logic, when Warz changed name to Survivor Stories, it became a new game? :D Im sorry but i cant agree, that slapping a new name on something makes it new.
-
No thats how you make a new version of an engine. A new engine is created by sitting down, and writing every little bit from scratch, not just upgrading current code and adding more on top of it :) If this is how you create a new engine, then BF4 would be running on a new engine, which isnt the case, its just a new version of the engine, an upgraded version. Found this nice little quote on wiki: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Game_engine Someone understand perfectly what is and has been happening from the beginning :D
-
But thats the thing, they arent replacing everything.... Remember Dean is not a very PR savy person, he has never been very good at explaining things to the public. Hes a programmer, he thinks in code. He only calls it a new engine, to hype it and to please the masses imho. If they where to export ALL current assests, buy a brand spanking new engine (frostbyte, cryengine, unreal, etc.) and then import everything into it, we can all it new. But this is not new, its a heavily modified version of RV, so modified it will be given its own name, Enfusion. They are doing exactly what they did with Take On Helicopters, just on a much bigger scale. Dont get me wrong, its gonna be awsome to get the improvements they are talking about, but calling it a new engine is rubbish, its a modified engine. This is just like Apple releasing an IOS update and calling it new. Its "just" an upgrade of the current tech.
-
Correct me if im wrong, but when you take something and change it around and add more on top of it, its not "new", its improved, modified... Calling it a new engine is not correct, its a reworked engine, based on RV. Its like buying a car at a dealership, going home and doing a ton of custom modification to it. Its not a "new" car, its a modified car.

Shouldn't zombies also bleed to death eventually?
byrgesen replied to sketch814's topic in General Discussion
I dont think it would be to hard to make 3 or 4 stages in the zeds life, with a simple timer counting down, which can be reset upon "feasting" :) Ofc we would still have to have zombies spawning regularly as fresh ones, just to keep the tension going ingame, but they are already working on a better zombie respawn technic. Perhaps stages like: Freshly infected, faster then humans, very strong punch/scratch Limping abit more, abit slower then humans, but still strong punches Crawling on all fours, significantly slower then humans and not quite as strong anymore Crawling prone, cannot get up, very slow and very weak.Combine that with the ability to alert other Z's aswell, so the weak crawlers is not a threat by then selves, but they will alert other Z's in the area of your pressence. Opens up for alot more tactical approaches imho. But yeh, just imagine running away from a slow Z, and then running past a flock of deer. The Z suddently turns around and go after a deer, perhaps even killing it and then it start feasting. For obvious reason you have stopped running now, as you want to investigate this behavior, but you are to close to be safe. Perhaps the Z takes a few bites from the deer (tainting the flesh obviously aswell, requires thorough cooking) and then it spots you again. Now you have a serious problem, because the Z have become stronger and faster, gaining energy from the bite it just had, so all of a sudden its a whole new ballgame and you have no other choice but to engage it, as you cant outrun it anymore. Perhaps there would be a higher chance of getting an infection from a "stage 1 Z" then a "stage 4 Z", because the stage 1 is alot stronger and alot faster. Damn i would love something along thoose lines tbh :D Combine it with the ability for Z to bleed out, breaking they're bones and roaming packs of Z's, this game could take the entire "zombie survival" to the next level. -
Does anyone have any pictures of what it looks like now? Im living in the South West corner of the map, so i cant be arsed to run all the way back to "DM country" :)

Well they have actually been seen hunting animals, and we know they hunt humans. The question is, do they feed off of them when they kill the target? The infected in 28 days/weeks later can obviously die of starvation, so im really hoping for this before mentioned "zed-life cycle". Just imagine the fresh, newly infected Z's running around, faster then a human can and then as they're life progresses, they become slower. Perhaps we will see them start crawling on all fours (like the monkey zeds) and eventually they can only crawl prone and be little to no threat. Maybe they will even regain energy by killing players or animals and "reset" the life cycle? Very interesting :D Man i would love that tbh. -
Its not a bad idea tbh. Now i wonder if fireflies can actually survive in a country like Chernarus? I live in Denmark, which is way to cold for fireflies, so i have no idea how they would do in Chernarus tbh. Perhaps we got some bug-savy people on the forums who could enlighten ud? :)

can people see where you're about to spawn?
byrgesen replied to Red_Ensign's topic in New Player Discussion
That might be one of the dumbest places ever to log out mate :) You got what was coming for you tbh. Ive yet to get killed upon logging in, is this a common thing? I can only say, that if you get killed when logging in, you found the wrong place to log out and hopefully you will learn from it. It takes less then 5 mins to run out of any city/airfield and find a nice bush to log out in, you should do this EVERY time imho. -
I still dont want undead zombies in DayZ, im not bashing, in just stating my opinion :) Strange you would say they are more zombie like, as i find the mods Z's much more infected like, then the standalone's.
-
You are right, but i seriously doubt they would want to change that now, when they have spend so much energi and time, stressing its not undead zombies. I dont recall any official word on that, but if you can find i would love to read it :) I know people have talked about it, and some of the mods made from DayZ mod did do it this way, but ive heard no such announcement for DayZ SA. I surely hope they dont make regular undead zombies, we have that in 1000+ other games. Let us have the running raging shells of humans, we see in 28 days/weeks later, it has so much more potential, as far as survival and horror goes imho. Slow moving regular zombies arent scary at all, just look at the numerous movies, games and books about them. But a fast infected, who wants nothing but to rip your head off, can be damn scary, and it has so much more potential in a video game. I doubt they are gonna move away from one of the key aspects, that made this game so popular to begin with. If it werent for the infected in the mod, we would all be playing wasteland and life missions atm :D
