Annoying...Steam auto-launches with Arma 2 now? PLEASE make it stop
byrgesen replied to mjp808's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
If you havent hacked anything, you can easily get your key stolen by downloading malicious software, like "FPS increasers" or unofficial launchers. That is one of the major reason Arma III and DayZ SA is 100% steam dependant, it gives the user a much higher level of security, because its impossible to steal the cd-key. In fact you need to steal an entire steam account now, and that is nothing but good and much more difficult then reading the registry. Yes Arma II's server list was running on gamespy, like 1000's of other games out there. They provided the service steam does now, nothing more tbh. With the new beta patch for Arma II OA, we got the steam browser, as an attempt to keep the game alive and give people the option to continue playing multiplayer, just like they are used to. But if you want to keep playing Arma II OA and DayZ mod, you cannot get around the whole steam requirement, its a part of the game now, nothing to do. -

byrgesen replied to mjp808's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Correction, Bohemia has done this to keep the game alive, Steam has done nothing, but providing a service to BI. Otherwise it would die like the other 1000's of gamespy games out there mate :) And again, unless you are playing on a potato, you wont feel steam running in the background. It requires next to no resources, when its idling in the background. The one thing i can think off, that might help you, is going to BI forums and asking how to permanently change the CD-key so steam doesnt overwrite it every time tbh. But you still have a choice, go back to the old betas and find a server which isnt gonna update and play on it, through direct IP connection. It still works just fine. And i dont want to sound like a jackass, but there only one to blame for your stolen CD-key, and thats you. You are 100% responsible for your own safety on your PC and its perfectly possible to have owned Arma II for several years and never ever have gotten the key stolen. -

The "problem" is that the new 1.63 patch requires steam and is not compatible with older patches, meaning you cant join older beta servers with it. There is no way around it atm, as far as i know, but you can easily change your CD-key in the windows registry, thats exactly how people steal it so easily :) A simple google search should get you right on track. But as far as steam and performance goes, unless you are playing on a bamboo potato, you wont feel steam running in the background tbh. EDIT: Ok ive misspoken, there is a way around it. But you will have to rollback to 1.62 beta patches and only join servers using remote IP, but BE wont be supporting it, so prepare for hack-a-mania. Its not advisable at all, and most servers are already updated to 1.63 beta, so you cant join them. -

Like Evil Minion said, you cant "fix" it. Without steam, Arma II is nothing but a single player game really. After the death of gamespy they introduced the steam browser for servers and thus made it require steam in order to start. Dean with it mate. -
Im with irishboy on this, it makes sense to limit the amount of guns, so you have to make a choice and live with that. I dont think going "full rambo" in DayZ would make it a better game tbh, we need choices and consequences, and limiting the amount of weapons you can carry, is a very good idea in my world. I would however not object to having a bag like Survivor_Ted showed, to carry extra weapons in. But it should also be restricting and it should take up the hand slot, so you would not be able to fire unless you drop the bag and pull out the weapon on your back.
-
And you can fire both at the same time aswell :) This is also my favorite weapon ingame (B95 Blaze), and combined with 2-3 snap loaders it can really take down people. Ive yet to see anyone survive 2 bullets to the upper chest area, and usually when i fire them at the same time people drop like flies. As far as handguns goes, i dont really care to pick them up, i tend to run around with my Blaze and an axe, thats it. One of the other good things about the B95, is that you dont have to run around with 100's of rounds, since you only use 2 at a time, so it saves on inventory space aswell.

You make it sound like most of what they have put into the game now, wasnt planned at some point in the past, which isnt the case tbh. Going all the way back to the first devblogs last year, when they announced the start of development, everything we have in this game so far, has been carefully planned and explained in detail to the community tons of times. Theres nothing in this game, that the community didnt know about. They havent changed direction, its been going down the same path since the beginning. Most of what we have now, is a "version 2.0" of what was in the mod, so to speak, and it will continue down that road. And what you are describing is basic development and testing of new mechanics and features tbh. They make new stuff, old stuff breaks, they fix old stuff, new stuff breaks. That game development my friend :) @OP As far as im concerned DayZ is an experiement. Its one of the only games without an actual objective, in a world where video game developers are holding hand with theyre players, like 3 year old children, guiding them through every single little thing and not letting them think for them selves. The video game genre has become so dumbed down and so "player friendly" that nobody knows what to do, if it isnt written with big fat letters on your screen. To me this game is going back to the root of gaming, giving players full control and all the responsibility that comes with it, instead of holding our hands and having to tell us what to do, every damn minunte. This is what we need, we need games that force us to think on our own, games which has dire consequences, if you chose the wrong thing to do, games which doesnt have checkpoints and where you can actually loose big time.

Log Horizon basicly nailed it on the problem of the current Alpha version of DayZ SA

This touched me on a very deap level.... Thank you! -
Does carrying a sporter 22 make you a more 'friendly" player
byrgesen replied to HeroAtDay BanditAtNight's topic in General Discussion
Tbh every weapon is a threat, but if i see someone running with what looks like "good" gear and a sporter/blaze/any other hunting rifle, insted of AK's and M4's i generally tend to trust him more. Assault rifles just doesnt mean "you can trust me" in most cases, but ofc trust is a difficult word to use in a game like this :) In general, i tend to trust civilian looking people alot more then military geared players, simply because most of the military geared people ive run into, had no other agenda then to kill me, where most of the civilians wanted to trade or interact in some way. But its hard to generalise like that. Its exactly the same dilemma as the PayDay masks and gasmasks hehe. -
POLL: Should recently-rendered-unconscious players be able to immediately respawn?
byrgesen replied to Grimey Rick's topic in General Discussion
Agreed, the respawn button should not be funtional during unconsciousness and a couple of mins after, unless you are dead. Death should be the only valid reason to respawn IMHO, nothing else. After all this game is about surviving as long as possible, no matter what. Sure they will, but IMHO if you log out during unconsciousness, your char should get killed off and you should get forced to start fresh on the beach. Bohemia should do everything in they're power to discourage logging out during unconsciousness tbh. -
Agreed. I would also like zombies to be attracted to gunshots and vehicle noises over long distances, perhaps they will start walking towards it? Imagine being in electro, and shooting a guy or whatever, only to find out the entire towns "population" is slowly heading towards your location, because of this.

FYI Diablo II never had personal loot, it was all about who was the fastest on the mouse :) Diablo 3 had though, so i understand your point. Played the shit out of the second, but the third was just to big of a pile of crap to bother :) @OP No way mate. It doesnt belong in a game where global loot economy will be a thing. People need to see the same stuff and fight over it. And like you say it will pretty much only encourage more killing, because it will be the easiest way to get gear. In a game like this we should all have the same chance of finding everything and the only reason its far to easy to find stuff atm, is because we have no loot respawn mechanic yet, so admins restart the servers once every hour so people can farm the crap out of it. That will all change once a proper loot respawn mechanic is introduced.

Poll - Why aren't people playing hardcore mode
byrgesen replied to TimF's topic in General Discussion
Never go full retard dude..... Its a video game, and even the most realistic video games does not grant you one life and then automaticly un-install it self afterwards -_- Your argument could not be more invalid tbh. -
Make server restart warning compulsory
byrgesen replied to General Zod's topic in General Discussion
How can this even be a question? Its just common sense tbh, and should be in the game. If its not there by beta, i will be very disappointed. -
Poll - Why aren't people playing hardcore mode
byrgesen replied to TimF's topic in General Discussion
I play hardcore for one reason. So people have to expose them selves to look over walls/rooftops/out of windows/etc. It sickens me that people find it "ok" to be able to sit in complete safety and still have overlook. It doesnt belong in a game like this.- 164 replies

Definition of Bandit vs Murderer?
byrgesen replied to Death By Crowbar's topic in General Discussion
Like i said, if you dont at least try to get some kind of interactioin going between you and your victim, but simply kill left and right regardless of the situation, you will never be a bandit in my world :) A bandit work by a code of honor, if you will, meaning he only takes what he needs and doesnt kill if its not needed, at least this has always been my definition of a bandit in DayZ. That is true, but people havent stated bandits dont kill, we know they do :) But theres a big difference between killing everything that moves, with no motives or reason, other then to kill, and then rob and kill people to survive. The only reason you got that skin in the mod, which was later removed, was to point out who had killed people, which turned out to be a very bad idea. Comparing the bandit skin, of the early mod days, to what you can do in the SA, is not viable imho. People got the bandit skin by accident and for self defense aswell, so the mechanic was flawed from the very beginning. -

You asked and i answered :) If you want to be a murderer thats fine hehe, we need you guys aswell, or the game would be boring tbh. -
Definition of Bandit vs Murderer?
byrgesen replied to Death By Crowbar's topic in General Discussion
If you dont try to rob people and simply shoot them all the time, you arent a bandit tbh. I can understand bandits killing they're "victims" if they try to attack, but if you dont at least try to interact with people, you arent a "true bandit" you are just a KOS murderer. I want to add that i would never do what you say you do :) I value my life above ANYTHING in this game, and i will do pretty much everything to get out of it alive, even stripping down to underwear and handing everything over. To me DayZ is about surviving as long as possible, no matter what you have to do, thats what makes this game fun for me at least :) -
Its not a bad idea, we need more non lethal options for sure. Would also like to see rubber bullets, which we can shoot from shotguns, to knock people unconcious without killing them tbh.
