Sorry, being a traditional economics advocate, I assumed everyone acts according to their own needs, which has to be monetary gain. I still do think they are developing for money, not for their 'personal enjoyment'. return 0; Oh why, thank you. Your reply is the closest to human interaction I will get in my windowless room filled with burger wrappings.

Hype: noun. Something that game developers can just put a damn straw and cash in. Although it may seem like it will damage the corporation, it always ends nice for the devs, financially. Take EA, for instance. They sold Medal of Honor saying that they will be the only ones that will get BF3 Beta. A FUCKLOAD of players bought it for that reason. The game was shitty, and guess what: IT WAS AN OPEN BETA. Medal of Honor Warfighter was the same. They advertised it as the only ticket for BF4 Beta. WRONG. It was also an open beta/ with 3 day early access to BF4preorder and premium and warfighter. So, as you probably know, EA has made it a hobby to screw up their customer base. However, they are one of the richest game distributors in the world right now. Notoriety doesn't mean bad financial outcome. Royal customers like ourselves will always buy the game whenever it comes out (I have to serve in the Army in 6 months, so delay more than that, and... shit.). However, the ones they will lose are the impatient ones. They won't buy it if they lose the hype. That's less revenue for the devs. Just sayin'.

Hype is dying out. At least for the devs, this is not a good thing. They should hand over the PR/Market research to me. Things could be better. They don't have economics/business administration majors over there, I guess.

Seriously, they should've opened up a kickstarter.

Total mod downloaders right now (although stats have not been updated for so long) is 1.7 million. Think about that. Now, let's say among those, about 1 million of them are willing to pay for the standalone. 7 days to die, which had no reputation or brand value whatsoever raked up 500k, with 10k backers. With NO REPUTATION. If the developers opened up a kickstarter, and sold it for about $30~$50-ish, they would've raked up at least 50 million. 50 million USD. The development would've been much faster. I don't know, this may just be crazy talk coming from a Computer engineering / Economics / Business Administration major, but I really think they made the wrong decision. Don't try to defend them like "They have their own lives. They have no obligation whatsoever". Study more, and you'll learn that they in fact, do have obligations. It's called "Brand Value", and "Customer Value Proposition". They won't go to jail if they keep postponing the release, but they WILL lose revenue, and that's stupid management decision on their part. When's it coming out, I'm done waiting. -

I'm not saying we should be rushing the game or something. It's just that from the videos we have right now, they do seem quite underfunded. The development has been slow, that's indisputable. The devs themselves said that they missed their own deadline. However, we definitely know that the devs aren't playing around. They are working their ass off. That suggests underfunding. True, too many devs might not be the best way to go, but they definitely do need more resources. Then, why do they need funding if they have BIS? Large companies rarely make the best managerial decisions. Even though the DayZ mod was the one that made additional 1.7million*40 USD revenue, I highly doubt a large amount went into the standalone. Go into the BIS homepage. Do you see a category for DayZ SA? No. They probably didn't fund them much. Maybe not at all, really. Do you really think BIS gave Rocket 50 million for development? If BIS was that much profit-oriented in the first place, they won't be making these hardcore simulation games (they have the worst potential sales, demand-wise). I'm not saying Kickstarter in specific would be the best way to go, but if. IF. If they are low on capital right now (I have no idea if they really are), they brought that on themselves, that's all. For instance, I would've been more than willing to throw 10~20 bucks for nothing, if they had asked for support in the beginning. Now, I'm not that much of a royal customer. I am royal, but I go into the Army in 6 months. If they delay it more than 6 months, I won't be able to play it for 2 years. There goes their one customer, right there. P.S. "When's it coming out" was a rhetorical question. -

I know there's no set date, I know people are already pissed about it, and some aren't. I just wanted to point out that for every day that passes without going alpha, that's one more royal customer they'll have to buy back. DayZ is a hardcore game, so it's different from something like LOL. Every customer is their critical intangible asset. And they are apparently not doing anything to calm them down. -
Well, this is a survey. Just as the subject suggests, I want to know what your current character's murder stats are. Not the highest, not the accumulative. Current. I have to say, though, I am NOT a bandit, technically. Bandits loot. In my case, I just stayed up in the firestation of cherno or elektro, and I just sniped people for no reason, armed or unarmed, just in for the sheer kill. Then one day, when I was in a supermarket, I came upon this guy in a Ghillie suit, with a M107, rangefinder, nv goggles, gps and everything. I of course, killed him with my trusty akm. I now roam this apocalyptic world, searching for my prey who I'll just kill and not loot or anything. Long story short, I'm a beltway sniper, have 24 murders and 1 bandit kills, and I'm proud of it. So let's hear your story out. I'm glad when my life goes into the shit can, there's always a rainbow to go back to.

I am playing DayZ with ARMA 2 Free and ARMA 2 OA. Since that makes the texture blurry and bad, I was thinking about buying the ARMA 2. However, I heard a rumor that DayZ is going independant. If that happens, ARMA 2 CO users will have to buy the DayZ again. I'd like a link or something about this matter, since if it's true, I don't want to waste my money on ARMA2 just to buy DayZ again a couple of months later. P.S. I'd also appreciate if someone told me if this is going to be developed on another engine when going independant. It would be great if unreal engine 3 or frostbite were used. The ARMA engine is buggy as hell. If the framerate and graphics were even just half of the one of frostbite or unreal, this game would be greater. Something like amnesia would be just fine. opening closets with physics engine and such. Right now, DayZ is gaining popularity only because the gameplay was unique, not because of its engine, framerate, graphics, AI, or anything. Except for the ideas and gameplay, this game is a total disaster of programming. Everyone knows that. ARMA2 original was sort of popular because of the vehicles, big map, teamplay and realism, not because of amasing graphics or nice feeling of shooting. If DayZ is going independant, that's okay. I just hope they make it on another engine. They need to fire the programmers, keep the brainstorming department, and headhunt programmers from DICE and Activision.

Is the DayZ going independant?

Quick reply. Thanx. It would be good if this game was improved. The genius level of the gameplay is way too higher than the graphics and compatiability. I'll just make a game company a while later and make a better one, and make money off of it. I hope rocket doesn't make the game too good ;) -

Thanks. I'd just heard from my friend it was going inde in September, and it will cost 20 bucks. I guess he must have heard a meaningless rumor. -
It was an accident. I was server jumping to see if there's any survivors on the NE airfield. When I saw you at last, I was just so happy that I pulled the trigger. It was an honest mistake. :)

Your first unprovoked murder?
mark3236 (DayZ) replied to critanium's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I've always had high hopes for humanity. I didn't think people would truely be evil. Well, I guess they are. After being killed about 20 times by a friggin bandit, I decided to kill people from now on. So I went up to the firestation, and I was looking out for hostiles. Just then, one bandit came up from the stairs, and he tried to axe me. He missed, so I put a whole mag of my first-earned AKM into that sucker. He had an ALICE pack, I took it. After that blood-pumping experience, I now just stand on the top floor of a firestation, waiting for survivors. I usually just shoot before they come into the building. One thing worth talking about is when a guy with an M4 with silencers and everything was down stairs. I went down and killed him. However, I got shot and I was bleeding. So I needed bandaging, but a zombie came up the stairs. I had to disconnect without the precious M4. I regret that to this day. I have 5 murders, 1 bandit kills. Those 5 murders were not for loot. It was for sheer pleasure. I didn't even go to their bodies. I just like ruining people's days. Yeah. I'm not a bandit. I'm a beltway sniper. Hooah.
