  1. So this is going to be a thread for stuff people need to know, but didn't, and wouldn't unless they looked here or spent the time WE did to get something working. So without further delay: 1. Cooking. From my own personal experiences i'm going to relate the basic ways to cook food in this game. You're going to need a source of heat, be it a mini-stove, or a fireplace, or a fireplace in a house. So let's start with a mini-stove. A. Mini-stoves can cook food if there is a pot attached to it. This can be anything from mushrooms you find on the ground to meat you may have gathered while skinning a human or an animal of some sort. There are mixed reports if you can get sick from eating raw food as some say you can, and others say you can't. For now we are going to play it safe and cook the meat or fruit/vegetable we have gathered. First you need a mini-stove, the types.xml files says Mini-stoves will spawn in Industrial spawn locations, so keep an eye out when running through those areas. Once you find a stove, you're going to need some gas to fuel your stove, these also can be found in Industrial spawn locations. Once you have both items, place the stove in your hand and then drag the gas to mini-stove in your hand. It should combine showing the canister now connected to the stove. Now let's find the third piece you will need, and that's a pot to cook your items in. Cooking pots can be found randomly in any town or village house, sometimes on the floor, or tables, or elsewhere. Once you have your pot, attach that to your stove / gas and once again you should see it connected. Now that we're sure the item isn't bugged, detach your pot by taking all the items in your hand and removing the pot back to your inventory. Place the items you want cooked into the pot and then fill the pot with water from any source that is pure. These pure sources can be from wells, or from bottles / canteen that you have found water in and purified with purification tablets. Fill the pot completely, and add the items you want cooked to the pot and finally attach it back to your stove. Place the stove on the ground and hover your crosshair over it, you should see an action that says turn-on. Once you've turned it on you should hear the sounds of boiling water and see a slight steam coming off of it. The sounds will change when the food is cooked and the smoke slightly changes color. Once this happens, pull the pot off, check the food (it should be slightly brown and also say 'boiled') and if complete, remove the items you have boiled. Congratulations, you've safely cooked your first items with a cooking pot. B. A Fireplace can also be used to cook items, albeit one at a time. (You can cook with a pot, however I have not tried to do so as I don't feel like carrying a tri-pod.) To make a basic fire you will need sticks, tinder, and something to light the fire with (for simplicity sake we will assume you have matches). In order to do all this you will need a cutting tool of some sort be it an axe, knife, hatchet, or sharpened stone. Let's start with getting fuel, take your cutting tool and go to a bush, we're going to cut down the bush and gather a long stick (when you finish cutting the stick will appear on the ground). Once you have this, put it on your back, you will need this later. Now go to another bush and repeat this action until you have two long sticks. Take your cutting tool and put it in your hand once more, then grab the other long stick and drag it over the cutting tool. You will get an action that says split into thirds, do this, and you now have three short sticks and one long stick on your back. With all of this, go to a tree and with your sharp cutting tool, look at the tree until you get the action to cut off bark, do this and you will see the bark at your feet. Now, take the tree sticks and the bark and combine them, you will see the action to craft a fireplace, do this. Once this is done you should see the fireplace in your local area on the ground, go ahead and add the two other small sticks you have to this. Once done, take the matches you have in your hand and look at the fireplace until you have the option to light it. Do so. Now, take the long stick off your back and add a piece of whatever you are cooking to it. Point the stick towards the now lit fire and you should see an action to cook over fire. This will start a cycle wheel in front of you when you start the action, this indicates you are cooking the item on the stick. When this cycles once, it will signify that you have successfully cooked the one item. Doing any more cycles will burn the food, which will make you sick if you eat it. C: Cooking with a house fire is done exactly as you see above except when you create the fireplace you will be pointing at a house fireplace, and it will give you the action to craft in the shelter. Once this is done, you can do as you did with the mini-stove and add a pot to it and cook your food this way. I have found cooking with a house fireplace easier as you can stay close to the fire, stay warm and see the item you are cooking in the local area so you know when it is done. Warning : Cooking with a pot and NOT adding water to it will cause your cooking to fail every time and your food WILL burn. There's no way around it. I -think- you can use fat, but i'm not 100% sure and again we're going with what I know WORKS. (more to come in the following posts, add more to this so others can see!)

    Hi. I know my opinion probably will be overlooked or not answered cause you guys are busy and what not but I have a simple request. Would you be willing to tell us (the community) about the persistence issue? Do you (the team) have a realistic idea of when there might be a hot-fix coming down the tubes? I feel like a bit of information about this one major subject would do a lot to help solve annoyed or frustrated players. Thank you, regardless of your answer or lack there of.

    Why is it ALWAYS NIGHT???

    A server being night time is an admin issue unless you're playing on official which in that case, God speed. Also, gun lights point in the direction you aim your gun in, if you want a light to point in the direction you are looking try a headtorch. Anyways I'm with everyone else if you want a server on your time, find one that's non official or a different time zone host.

    30 slot server, 10 people max at a time. Server shut downs are normal scheduled and never had a crash to my knowledge and our tents vanish for no reason. Bases and walls have started vanishing as well and we didn't have issues with this for some time. We do backups so I mean we don't lose too much but it's a bandaid on a leaking roof.

    Oh by no means am I implying they are unaware. They would have to be completely oblivious to miss the rampant protests that happen on these forums. However with the lack of road map at the start of December (unless I completely missed it) I'm hoping for some clarity on this one primary issue that is the keylog in our proverbial dam.

    Had this same issue. After testing I found out swimming in freezing cold water? Yeah no problem man. Them steaks got some strong mojo.

    Sorry to say but we still need more info. Did you get it right before server restart? Did the server crash before you lost it? Did it crash any time between when you logged out and logged back in? Are you positive without a doubt that it didn't crash during that time?
  9. It's... weird. We save persistence on the regular and the wierd stuff involves barricades and such staying up for a long, long time. Like, weeks. We can't figure out what will stay and what will not because it's 100% random when stuff vanishes so we can't tell if it's players or server. I still say your best bet is to admin save daily and keep doing it until they pit something reliable into effect.

    We (and by we I mean I) adjusted my server to completely remove food from zombies. It can be done by the server admin on community servers. I'm Bordertown: https://discord.gg/7QHAnWn, I set it so there is very limited can foods and absolutely no food spawning in bags, clothes, or zombies foe the same reason you listed. My players enjoy it greatly as it adds more of a survival feel to the server. I can find the files you need to adjust if you would like.

    Your best course of action is to find a community server with an active admin who is doing persistence saves right now. We don't have major wipes but we get missing tents now and then. My server has been fairly stable lately since we started doing this so.. yeah.

    Because almost every issue that is brought up has been beat to death on this forum at one point or another since 1.0 launch. Some people don't even search this forum, or even use Google to search for an issue before they decide to make another thread about it I know we have a thread about ghost bullets because I've replied to that three different times. To come here and claim that you have no idea about it is stupid and shows laziness because if you search this site on the first page of general discussion there are no less then two threads there. If you can't find it there check bug reports. I mean at this point there's absolutely no excuse why people haven't read about one of the well known bugs except laziness. That's why I'm annoyed all to hell at some of you people. Before you make ANOTHER thread instead of taking 5 minutes and see if it's already been talked about. Sorry not sorry.

  15. 3. Improvised backpack. In order to make an improved backpack we will need a couple of things: A: A burlap sack (Found in most industrial spawns, or farms) B: Two (2) sticks (Use a cutting tool and chop down a bush, then use the cutting tool on the long stick to create two short sticks. You can also use an Ax/Hatchet on a log, but let's assume you're a fresh spawn) C: Rope (Rope spawns in industrial areas but you can also craft one with twelve (12) rags in two piles of six (6) by combining them together) The first step is to create a courier bag. This is created by using your burlap sack and dragging your rope over the bag and you will get an action to craft the items together, doing so will cause it to either spawn on your back, or the ground, depending on the DayZ Gods whims.Now that we have a courier bag, let's craft a improvised backpack. Take the short sticks into your hand and drag your courier bag over them (insure the bag is empty). You will get an action to craft an improvised bag, once you do this it will either spawn on your back or the ground. Improvised backpacks have a dull brown color that blends in better then Talloon backpacks and has more room to them then a school backpack. In fact, an improvised backpack has the same space as a Talloon backpack.
  16. 2. Ghillie suits and you Ghillie suits are a crafted item made with burlap sacks and netting. Netting can be found along the coast in industrial spawns and in the boats you find along the waters edge. Burlap sacks can be found in most industrial spawns, but I have found them in farms as well. In order to craft a Ghillie suit you will need some burlap strips and netting, let's start by making a Ghillie head cover and i'll let you figure the rest out for yourself. In order to make a ghillie head cover you will need the following items: One cutting tool, one netting, and two burlap bags. Let's take the two burlap bags one at a time and place them over your cutting tool, you should get the option to cut them into strips : Do so. Once you have cut both of your bags up, you will have two burlap strips. Take the netting you have into your hand and drag the two strips over it. You should get two options : Craft Gun Wrap, and Craft Head Cover, we're going for a head cover so let's do that. Craft the head cover and once complete it will appear in your local area, pick this up and put it on your hand. Congratulations, you've crafted your first ghillie piece! Bonus : Take the ghillie piece off your hand and put it on the ground. Taking a low caliber weapon, shoot the ghillie head wrap. Pick the wrap up, it should be damaged. With duct tape, repair the ghillie wrap until it is worn. The item will still appear tan to you, but if you drop it on the ground the Ghillie head cover will be green. Place it on your head and it will be tan, however, everyone else will see it as green.

    Server crash caused base wipe

    I strongly recommend anyone playing on anything other then a server with an active admin. Not even joking. With all the base building issues, tents poofing and stuff i've heard about it just doesn't make sense to NOT play on a server that has an active admin.

    Bordertown - Organic Roleplay

    Just a friendly bump to the top and an update. Since posting this, our community has grown in fairly good leaps and bounds. The groups we have active there are .... friendly... in their own ways, and the community has been helpful. With some tweaks to the server we have attempted to make it feel more like an apocalypse and less like a larger game of Loot Gatherer 2 : The Gathering! We've had some pretty good roleplay action, and a lot of it is completely random. You too could join us, just hop in the Discord posted above for information on how to join and learn more about our groups. We hope to see you there!
  19. First, let's tackle the elephant in the room. What IS organic roleplay? We stole the definition directly from DayZ Underground and it goes something like this : What makes our approach to roleplay special is that we don’t have any artificial rules that affect how you can or cannot interact with people. This is the basis for what we started to call “Organic Roleplay”. Whether you like to squad up and get into PvP fights, or enjoy hardcore roleplay scenarios, all are welcome on our servers. We do not bar any playstyle or what players wish to share with the community, as long as it does not go against any of our community rules. We are not a traditional roleplay server, but we do have many members who enjoy a wide spectrum of interactions and roleplay. Our server operates directly off of those rules, and the only rule we do enforce is the obvious no glitching and no hacking. Otherwise, anything else is game. Any action you take in the game will have an effect on how people interact with you in the future. Making a name for yourself as a friendly, helpful person who aids those in need will get others seeing your character as such. Being a ruthless bandit, and people may start taking notice and even hunting you down. DayZ is much like EVE Online, no matter what you do, or how you act you are a roleplayer. Roleplaying simple means you are playing a role, and as you see above, you can be any role you wish. Our server is set to 1pp and has cross-hairs enabled. We do not run mods, the experience is quite vanilla, and we only run with a few modifications of the base game but nothing that would require you to download anything. We request that you join the discord we offer so you can become a part of the community and furthermore before you join make a name for your character.     Melee Combat Was Botched Last Minute

    Um, no... no they're not. If they are for YOU then it's on your end, not the games. As someone who spends a lot of time dealing with zombies with a knife or axe I can promise you that heavy melee is not the default swing anymore. Do what the man says and delete your config and download it because you done got something messed up.

    If you're on a community server check your types.xml file under mpmissions. You can adjust where items spawn there.

    Spawning Ghilli Suits issue

    So a bit of a back story. In an attempt to give my server some more meat for them to sink their teeth into, we starts added items to Types.xml to get them out and above. The first was the Smersh Vest, while it's buggy, it works and otherwise can be used as a vest (if you don't mind the bag being at your feet). The second thing we started spawning was green Kevlar helmets, the Nato blue ones painted green. Since paint is not in the game, we wanted to give people an alternative from the Gorka helmet, so we gave them this. The helmet works perfectly, soaks damage normally and does not clip, so success.... Then came the Ghilli suit. Currently, the game has no way to MAKE green Ghilli suits so we started spawning them in through the Types.xml. Unfortunately, I can't get them to appear, and i'm not sure what I did wrong here. I did the exact same thing that I did for the helmets and they worked but the Ghilli won't even come in. We can make the ghilli suit in a brown version (tan) so I know the model is in, but they won't even spawn the tan version. Here's my current code for it : <type name="GhillieAtt_Mossy"> <nominal>10</nominal> <lifetime>5600</lifetime> <restock>1800</restock> <min>5</min> <quantmin>-1</quantmin> <quantmax>-1</quantmax> <cost>100</cost> <flags count_in_cargo="0" count_in_hoarder="0" count_in_map="1" count_in_player="0" crafted="0" deloot="0"/> <category name="weapons"/> <usage name="Military"/> </type> Now the first thing I think I should do is up the minimum because it's spawning at ALL military locations and that might help, but can anyone else see anything there that might be causing it not to spawn? Edit : Something community admins might want to know, you can do this in your server. It doesn't require mods, it doesn't require your players to add files or anything. This is a server side adjustment that can be made by anyone with access to their servers main files. This gives your players more to play with, and also lets you learn a little server coding to boot.

    Sorry that you didn't spend the 30 seconds required to find the answer somewhere else. I'll put it here instead so you have type less. The problem is ghost bullets, the devs are aware, the fix is coming. I don't think we needed another thread about this but people keep proving me wrong. Oh, right, the FIX for Ghost Bullets is on the forums as well.
