Yes, thank goodness for this. Now if the game would just force players to change their name before logging in instead of just defaulting everyone to survivor and forcing you to go to launch parameters, that'd be awesome.
-
You're getting bad version because the game was updated and your provider / host has not updated their server files to the correct version.

I current;y have a .cfg however if this is the case it may be from an old install. I am wondering myself where the files are for this because my sound settings are not saving on the current .cfg file I have.
-
So recently we all updated to .62 and that's really great however i'm having severe sound issues. The sounds like the wind, the birds, all the ambient noises are fine but things like zombies and zombie aggro and character breathing/footsteps are very soft and quiet. Gunshots seem to work fine, but nothing else seems to work like it's supposed to so I went to my .cfg file in the My Documents folder, I updated everything to 100 on the FX and I logged back in, no change at all. Is there a new .cfg file or something where we update this or what happened? I've already checked the obvious things like in game sound being low, my mixer being low, sound on the mixer being low. Teamspeak override and what have you are not an issue it's just THESE sounds in the game. Where they updated to be this low or am I updating the wrong file?

Yes, there is a release date and to say otherwise shows a bit of stupidity. If there were not a release date then they would have stopped development. As for the OP : The Dev's haven't stated when they are going to make a stable push for this as they are still tinkering with it. Just keep on checking.

Salted Beef. Since from what I understand, beef will spoil? I'm not sure if this is a thing or not but it makes since considering vegetables spoil. What if we were able to salt beef in order to preserve it longer after it's been cooked so we can keep it maybe twice or three times as long?

SVD normal spawn will be at a chopper crash, no exceptions. Anyone who says they found an SVD elsewhere is A: Finding someone elses SVD or B: a lier. Now you can find the mags pretty much anywhere and the ammo is fairly common so...

I Used to gamma all the time on the mod and man it spoiled me. full moon nights also spoiled me because I didn't even need to gamma. The current game of DayZ makes night time play very spooky (especially when playing with DayZ mod soundtrack on winamp) and I know it's gonna get me killed but im not turning it up.

I've heard the ding as well, it sounds like the Arma event ding. I'm not sure what it is or how it works but it always happens when I log in.

Pick axe worked just fine for me. You don't mine like cliff walls and such, you're looking for little boulders that are in the ground. I walked around for 15 minutes before I found one, but they are there. The best way to describe it, it looks like a boulder that's in the ground with just the top sticking out

So, went out to my favorite place to find military loot which I thought was out of the way to find that barracks hoppers have been hard at work. That's ok, i'll wait right here for them to come back. Never ceases to amaze me how even on experimental we have people who are so obsessed with finding high end gear that they go from server to server like vultures till they have it. Nevermind, i'll just leave this PSA! Dear people are barracks hopping at the northern military complex kinda near Novo. I left a landmine inside the barracks, good luck figuring out which one :D Signed, me. Much love.

I seem to have read somewhere that people were having problems collecting stone... so I went and tried this for myself. I've been running all over the place for stone formations, stone cliffs, random rocks and through it all I can't mine stone. Did the tool change or something? I have a pick but the option isn't coming up when I look at rocks, only that I can make a garden plot. Gonna go get a different pick and see what happens. Update : Ok I figured it out, makes no sense but I figured it out. You can only mine the little boulders that are in the ground, not the massive cliff walls of stone :p

Yep, they are bugs. You can actually get bugs on farm plants now and they will spoil out. Kinda annoying since I don't want to go into town right now specifically for stuff to fix this.

Amazing idea #2 : (Realism) Wet wood, tinder, cloth, anything should not be able to be used as material for starting fires unless it is properly dried out. This makes things like dry bags and tents that much more important to have available or nearby. Furthermore, damaged dry bags and or tents should let the rain in and therefore cause materials in the tents to get wet. I am not sure if there is a system in game for being wet for too long to cause stuff to degrade, and if there is I have not seen it, however I would love to see this added to the game to add to the survival aspect.

Actually, yes. Much like eating a bag of rice in game, eating salt meat would dehydrate you greatly. I mean you can eat it, but you need to understand the negative effects of eating it as well. Granted, I would eat smoked or dehydrated food before I eat salted meat, however you have to consider the aspect of my character right now. I'm surviving on my own in the woods until this all dies down. My character on experimental sincerely thinks that the army, the government or someone is going to show up sooner or later so survive on what you can while you can. So with that said, setting up a system to smoke meat would require materials I don't have on hand and generally will take a while to do. Salting meat is fairly simple and does not require a lot of prep work to get it working.

I'm.... not sure.... let me try that. [After testing] Nope, just checked. When you right click on the fireplace the only option you get is to inspect it. Mind you, this is after the fireplace has burned down to ashes and is smoldering. Once it's at that stage you can't do anything about it it would seem. This could seriously be exploited to keep people out of buildings / doors / areas or what have you. I seem to remember people doing this in previous patches when they wanted to keep people out of jails, they would just put a whole bunch of fireplaces down and you couldn't vault over it.
-
So... fireplaces are persistent... which is interesting because all the things I put in there to destroy are still there. Not sure how you get rid of this but I can see this being exploited to keep people out of buildings.

Fish traps will only work on the coast so if you are trying to use it anywhere other then the coast then it won't work at all. Ponds / lakes / rivers all require you to use a fishing rod and lure / worms in order to make that work, but i'll explain that in a second. The improv fishing trap works like this. Cutting tool to plastic bottle, make trap. Shovel > Worms. Worms go in trap. Trap is set in the ocean. Catch Sardines ( this doesn't take long at all) Take feesh, prepare feesh, cook feesh. Nom nom feesh. Simple. Now, with a river and a fishing pole this video should actually work better then me telling you here. Fishing guide by Sobieski.

I agree 100%. Just because you think you're safe doesn't mean you're safe. I don't let my guard down even though I am way off the beaten path. Went into a major city last night to find wire for rabbit traps and the entire time I was scared out of my ass because my primary right now is a crossbow with a holo scope. Granted, I have ammo out the ass but this is not a weapon you want to get into a firefight with. So yes, absolutely.

.57 stable branch, helicoptor spawn south of VMB. Since this post I found another but it wasn't at a chopper crash and more then likely player dropped as it had no attachments to it and was without ammunition.
-
I'm truly not concerned with running into anyone due to the area I am in is a bit off the beaten path. Nothing around me and no major towns. We'll see.

So, survivor mode is now active. I'm seriously considering not using the leather gear and instead just using hunter gear. I've been doing most of my looting out of deer stands, feed-shacks and the like, so far everything works perfectly fine. The leather hat has the wrong description, says it's bullet proof which is amusing. Hunting is a bit of an issue since the area I am in I haven't seen too many wild animals. Rabbits are being trapped and I have crops growing so that's not too big of an issue, the only problem really is a reliable water source but the deer stands have a ton of water in them so water hasn't become an issue. I have one tent, would like to get two but that's wishful thinking. Compared to normal gameplay of go north, get gun, camp choppers and kill server hoppers, this is actually a lot more rewaring.

So, I am very aware that there is a patch coming in the future that will greatly limit the aspect of third person in this game and for that I am grateful. I wish there that there was more done to it, as I have tested and in fact I wish the entire aspect of third person was taken out of this game but if wishes were fishes. This thread is not a 'Look how much better I am thread!' or at least that's not what was intended, it's more of a hope I can convince people to try out something that they probably have a 'justified' reason for. I've got my reasoning as to why I do what I do and it's my hope that after reading this that maybe at least one other person will do it too. With the upcoming .58 patch you will no longer be able to third person over most walls in the game due to the aspect being changed drastically. You can look around corners to a degree but you can't look over tall walls and such quite like you used to. For me, I applaud this because there are so many times where I grow tired of moving onto the NWAF or some other area of the game and having to assume constantly (and almost always be proven right) that someone is third person on the fire station on some wall, at some building... something. It greatly diminishes the enjoyment of this game knowing I have to remove some aspect so players can do something with game mechanics they normally shouldn't have access to. I am a big fan of people who stream first person, or shoot video in first person because I consider first person a cheat which in all honesty, that's what you're doing. SO many times I watch people stream / record this game and I immediately turn it to someone else because they're using third person and in truth I wonder who will be around when they completely remove it (if they completely remove it) With the coming changes to third person I challenge the players of DayZ to stop using it until the next patch. Ween yourself off using the third person aspect because in truth you're going to lose it and your gear with the coming patch, why not start doing it now? With everything I say, I want to show you a few videos to try to dissuade you from coming to use this and gamma correction to play in the game. First vs Third-Person in Arma 3 (and DayZ) DayZ SA - Hunting the hunters He makes a much bigger argument then I do, and it is my hope that in the future out of the 2% of people who play this game and read these forums... at least 1 - 3 will change with the argument and start learning the game in a much more difficult environment. Thanks for reading, and good luck.

I think the real question I have is are can you view the contents of a cooking pot now? The problem I reported was when attached to a gas stove the cooking pot could not be looked in unless you detached it and even then it was cooking the items placed inside it.
-
Ok thank you, I actually was the one who put the report in about it so if they fixed it then that means I can do my survival play through much easier. Any news on tents? Are they persistent?
