I can't be assed to look this up because i'm heading to work in a few minutes and wanted to check for answers when I got there so here goes. Was 1.7. not the patch where you could mod weapons? I looked through the patch notes but I didn't remember seeing it in there and I could have sworn prior to that I read somewhere 'Weapons would spawn as basic weapons now, no scopes or grenade launchers or anything because you could add them on.' Is this correct or incorrect?

I have noticed people who have had multiple DayZ characters which they swap between. They may have one character in one area and another in another area. Now I know this involves multple CD's but is it just as simple as having a completely new Steam and a new CD key installed on that or what?

Question was answered, wasn't meant to spawn a debate, and if you want to have a debate over it then kindly take it to another thread :) This wasn't meant to start a flame war, or whatever this devolves down into, it was meant to answer a question. Admins could this be locked please since the question was answered?

Yes, Sacriel was the reason I had this idea as he has multiple characters in a certain area for his stream. The idea sounded legit enough to gear out multiple characters so you could just stay in the action longer. I am less tech savy then him and was wondering if using various forms of steam would be the way to do it.

I'm making this thread to just feed some info and ideas to those new players who just don't think they can make it. I'm no pro to this game, but I do think I have a lot of experience playing DayZ, so here goes. Tip 1: The crossbow, the best non-PvP starter weapon ever. The crossbow is one of the most underrated weapons in the game if you're fighting against zombies. It's silent, has an ammo capacity that rarely runs out if you're smart and is completely silent. If you're not expecting to run into players then I honestly recommend this gem as part of your load-out. It's fairly easy to find one of these in normal spawns, the ammo as well (barns are a good place, grocery stores, most residential and commercial) and the ammo spawns damn near anywhere. 5 bolts for this will actually take up 5 inventory slots BUT the ability to kill 5 zombies with zero danger is beautiful. If you get more then 5 on you, drop it and switch to your hatchet. With these two items (both of them very common) you can LITERALLY go through a city, hide the corpses of zombies you kill, and nobody will even know you're there.

Nobody sane uses just a hatchet due to the fact you have to be within striking distance to attack with it and it only takes one good zombie hit to break your leg.

Tip 3 : Pan. Pan (scan) is something a lot of people don't realize they can do honestly. I didn't know you could pan your camera until I actually watched a stream. Panning is the ability of using the alt key to look around the area while moving. This gives you the ability to move in one direction and have your attention focused on something else. If you're moving anywhere, look around and keep an eye on your surroundings because looking around can and will save your life. Keeping alert for zombies, bandits, and whatever else is around you is what elevates a novice to a more experienced level. When running in a straight line, press your alt key and swing your mouse left and right, this will move your characters head to give you a look in the direction it's facing. Notice things such as terrain around you, cover, ways to move and areas where you will be exposed. Always pan / scan before you enter a town for things like zombies, corpses and loot that shouldn't be in certain places. Things like this can honestly keep you alive for another day.

Tip 2: Can drinks and food vs. Water Bottles and Meat. While many people swear by meat and water, let's be honest, its kinda hard to find animals when you need them. So what do you do? Well, personal experience (now) I carry at least 1 can of food to use if I need to boil water. Can drinks are useful BUT when you use them there is always the chance you will aggro a zombie. Water bottles are easy to refill (boiled water is cheap) and they don't attract zombies when you eat them. Cooked food is also a wonderful thing to have on you specifically if you get shot. If you get shot, get to cover, and immediately eat your inventory of food. Then try to make your way out of the situation, note this applies to friendlies or bandits. Don't try to be Rambo, he already has sight of you and therefore has a clear LoS on your position. You still have to find him and engage him so he already has the upper hand on that engagement. Your best bet is to leave, or move off and see if you can pick him up as he moves off. As for food and water? I find it best to carry three food, and three water, especially if I am searching towns. This way I can eat everything I come across and keep my levels high and still have an inventory I can use as an emergency stash.

I am an old player of DayZ who came back. It was boring as shit before and felt like a call of duty remake with zombies. Now it's actually fun to me and i'm needing to clear something up. How do I boil water? What do I require to boil water so I don't get infected? I've got three water bottles on me with water and I don't have any boiled. How do I boil this?

Can I use the JSRS mod with DayZ on public hives? If I use the right @line when I launch the game is JSRS compatible with DayZ public hive? I prefer JSRS over the normal sounds and i'm hoping there's a way to make this work without going to a private hive.

Huh I may have to try this out and see what happens. Worst thing that COULD happen is the mod doesn't load or I get an error, right?

So apparently a hacker comes on this server and starts teleporting to people and killing them. Well, I had just logged in (after getting teleported with a broken leg to debug forest) and was running around in my first town gathering gear when Kyle (2) says over the chat : Yo why you teleporting around killing people dick? Kyle says : Whoa there's another Kyle on the server? Me : There's a hacker on the server? Kyle (2) : Yeah he's teleporting around killing people. Me: Why do I have to join servers with hackers. Why can't I find a server with a nice hacker? Furthermore, why can't this hacker give me NVG's, it's freaking dark. You have been kicked by the admin. [Dick] You have been banned from the server. [Dick] Nice admin, no research about who the hacker was and just decides to ban me because he hasn't got a clue who the real hacker is. Super! Another server I won't be wasting my time on :P I would be impressed to hear the admins side of the story, because had he did any research he would have seen I had been on the server for about... 7 minutes. Tops.

So I went to this server to give it a try because I am actually looking for a server with custom weapons not normally in the mod in it. So off I go to give it a shot and I spawn outside Electro, fair enough, off I go to take a peak and gear up. Find a Lee Enfield in a building and immediately hear a chopper flying overhead. Admin sends the message "Get in the chopper for a free ride". Now i'm suspicious by nature, and a bandit by nature, so I go into the firehouse to get a rifle of some sort. No such luck, I see a ghilli with a M4SD (heard the shots) running across the street looking for me. I put a round in him, and he keeps running back to the chopper now. Second shot misses and then the guy in the chopper opens up on him and kills him. Sweet. Chopper flies off, one man down, I go to loot the corpse. Corpse is fully geared minus the GPS and a side-arm so I loot everything and take off. New M4SD and AS50 for me, good start on this server. The chopper goes north of Cherno and levels off, so I go into the woods and range it and then blow the engine apart with the AS50. Chopper crashes, everyone dies, i'm pleased. It's about this time I see another chopper flying up to the crash of the other and I wonder... how many damn choppers are on this server? Chopper lands, player gets out and once again admin sends the message "I see you XXXX and XXXX, come to the chopper for a free ride guys." Okie doke, free ride? Sure i'll take a free chopper. I open up on the chopper as it's takes off, engine goes red but it doesn't crash and the player ( I assume the admin ) gets out. I put three rounds into him, one hits, he goes down. So this is the admin from before, I wonder what gear he has now since he has a chopper. Oh look, fully kitted out minus the ghilli suit AGAIN. Least he has the common decency to have an M9 and a GPS this time. It's as i'm looting him that the admin teleports behind me and opens up with what I assume was an AKM. I have enough time to type out "Lol cheating admins" before he finally gets a head shot. My advice, steer clear of the server. It's not legit, and the admins aren't legit. Fair game if this is the kind of thing you are looking for, but I wouldn't recommend wasting time here.

Moral of the story : If you make a server and people come to the server to play the game as it was meant to be played (sandbox) then don't get mad when your chopper is shot out from under you twice. Furthermore, don't hack simply so you can grief the people who killed you because you're mad at them. I don't care who you are on a server or what you're doing, if you want to be a carebear then be a carebear but don't get mad when someone shows up who is not. By what you're saying it's ok to hack as long as I own the server and as long as it's a private hive. It's ok to grief people on my own server because i'm the admin and if you don't like that shit, tough. I mean like I said, no harm no foul, I killed the admin twice and apparently pissed him off enough he decided to teleport to me and grief. All said and done, it's a fail server, good luck with your brony community though :)

First day on the server and run into combat dodgers and hear about people getting LMG on the coast. Very skeptic so far.

There are a lot, and I mean a lot of 'hardcore' servers that are currently on the server list so i'm not being rude when I say this ( take it how you want ) but you're not the first nor the last. You rehashed an old idea and the issue is simply that people have tried servers like this and they either worked or they didn't. After 30 years of gaming I have learned one important rule : People think shit sounds great until they try it, then they quickly back pedal and say this 'This is terrible, fuck this.' . There are a lot of games where super - hardcore has been tried and failed miserably and this one does it fairly well. You want immersion but you spell out things which are not immersion based. Worrying that a sniper is tracking in on you? Man you should be worried about this on EVERY server. No waypoints? Ok fair enough, see above though, it's been done on a lot of different servers. No Crosshairs? Well there goes the chance of anyone using the grenade launcher on the M4A1 Holo but again, this can be overlooked. I'm not sure what you want to be honest because the things you list as wanting off your server are kind of petty. As for why people bitch about having first person restricted? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Motion_sickness This is the reason I can only play on servers that have third person. I have severe motion sickness to the point just laying down in the backseat of a moving vehicle causes me to get sick. I CAN play some games but it requires me to take medication in order to stare at the screen. Arma II is one of those games that this hits me fairly hard in, and changing the F.O.V or Head bob does absolutely nothing. Granted, i'm the 1%, but i'm giving an example not fighting for a case here. All in all, there are servers out there already doing this and some of them are successful and long running (see the SurvivalOps) server so this is just another server that's coming up. If you want to make a server that's new and hasn't been done before then make a server with all russian weapons. The games in Russia, why are there more NATO weapons then Russian? Add new skins to entice clan war players to join your server (players can all dress up as X to show which team they are on) or maybe add vehicles that are military grade that have not been done yet. If you can accomplish this then you will have created something new and exciting that people will want to try over 'Another Hardcore server'. Good luck all the same.

I am looking for a new server to call home and i've been reading over servers that have these short lists of rules but give no information about their server so here's what i'm gonna do. I will give you a list there Mr. Admin and if my list sounds like something your server can offer me then let me know here. 1. Adult Admins : Mature in other words, don't show favoritism to one group or another and give everyone a good server to play on. 2. Admins don't cheat : Don't spawn equipment for yourself because you feel you are obligated to it because it's your server. Don't lay claim to vehicles and heli's, you play here so play fair. 3. Maybe a few weapons that aren't original: I can overlook this one simply because I know it's hard to get into a server but please at least consider putting in some low grade weapons in the future. (AK-74 with grenade launcher, the Russian version of the NATO weapon). 4. No 24 hour day cycle : This is the most important one I require. Don't come here and tell me to join your server if your server is constantly day. I want a changing day/night cycle that allows me to play different depending on the time of day. Also don't shorten the night simply so you can play in the day time. 5. Server is up 24 hours a day unless down for maintenance: Don't drop the server because you went to school and are scared people will raid your camp. That's admin abuse, play fair, you don't guard my camp when i'm not online, so stop playing the server in your favor. 6. Admin dies, bans player: If you can't take dieing, then don't bother asking me to join your server. If I kill you, fucking die, don't rollback the server to get your gear back. Don't ban me because you walked into an ambush, just die and accept the loss. Everyone else does, why shouldn't you? 7. Active admins: Either set up restarts or do it yourself. Be active! Fix the server if shits broken! Ban hackers! 8. Side chat is text only: There is nothing more annoying then some kid screaming at you in side chat about how you stole his coyote backpack off his lifeless twitching corpse at the NW airfield because he was checking hangers with a flare in his hand. Leave that shit off, text is fine to find hackers but voice? Why would you need that? To make groups? What the hell is this World of Warcraft? They invented Skype, Mumble and Teamspeak for a reason. 9. 3rd Person : On, CH : Off / On (either) Waypoints : On, Player dots on a map: Off 10. US based or at least I get decent ping for your server from the US. That's it, if your server fits this, then yeah i'll happily join up. I made a long list because I am sick of jumping servers over stupid shit like side chat voice being on for whatever the fuck reason then hearing stupid people whine about things like their camp being raided. I don't like hearing myself, hell I don't wanna hear half of you people much less myself.

Peep. I read over your server listing and it sounds good but I didn't see reference to weapon changes. I know I mentioned it being optional, so I assume that's a no on new weapons loaded into your server? Also, registered on the forum so waiting patiently for the server to let me in.

You would be surprised the number of people who want to play on private hives that have custom weapons. There are a lot of us. I don't want overpowered weapons, I want weapons that are new and exciting, like AK's with grenade launchers and AK - ACOG or whatever. I want the soviet version of all the nato weapons currently in the game because they are IN arma. I want to see more Soviet sniper rifles, we're IN RUSSIA, WHY ARE THERE SO MANY NATO WEAPONS?! I want to see a server that has more Russian weapons then Nato weapons. Make the nato weapons rare drops or something and make the russian ones more abundent.
