Craft sling before you can shoulder weapon
Riddick_2K replied to Jared Martin's topic in Suggestions
This whole discussion is interesting, it has touched on really important topics and I see that two opposing "philosophies" of thought have been created with good reasons for both. You know, right, that no programmer will ever read this thread? And even if they did read it, it wouldn't change anything with respect to what they have in mind to do ("unfortunately", often) for this game... right? For the reasons above, I won't write a complex intervention, but only 2 points (one for each side): *) It's true that the eye also wants its part, but with all the serious defects that this game has, do we really want to "waste time" for a "trifle" like that?!? *) It is true that there are much more serious problems of stability, "functionality" and "game play" of the game than implementing such a system, but it would be easily solved (gratifying the eye of the "realist" and not destroying the fun of the "new and inexperienced"): the ropes are created with 12 (?) rags that are obtained from clothes cut even with a stone knife. You can use a rope to sling a weapon. As a script it should be simple... the graphic part is missing, perhaps more "complex" (depends on how many and which programmers they currently have... from what I read in the new interface, they are not few) that in any case would certainly be "glitched" inside everything else, as always and like everything else (in any case not a great sight). And if you really want to do "complex" things, you could add a "realistic" strap to look for and the difference is that the hand-made rope (being rough and thin) hurts more to carry and consequently takes away more stamina from the weight of the weapon. The strap, which is well made on purpose (by the industry before the infection), distributing the weight better on the shoulder, hurts less and (in the game) takes away less stamina for the same weight of the weapon. It would be easier to ask a modder to make it... maybe someone is already thinking about it.. or it is already present in the Workshop (which should be completely redone, conditions of use for modders and users first). However, every now and then, it is also good to... "howl at the Moon" (because in fact that is what happens to most of the discussions in this forum...). ๐ -
And... to answer the original question in the thread: I'm talking about Vanilla servers, obviously. I always try to get to this weapon setup by default. *) AWC Amphibia (MKII), because: > Silenced by default... when you repair it you only use one step of the Kit to repair the pistol and silencer that are integrated. > The .22 rounds are enough to kill the Z with a headshot... almost all of them. For the others, I can use the one at the next point. > The .22 rounds are quite common and the boxes are 50. *) Desert Eagle (Deagle), because: > The .357 is the most powerful pistol round in the game. You could even hunt bears (like in real life), then they nerfed the .357 and boosted the bears and it's no longer good... but it's still a good round, with the hunting scope, you can use it for that too, or for the more "protected" infected. > It's automatic with 9 rounds in the magazine and 1 in the barrel. With a spare magazine in the quickbar, you can quickly have 19 rounds available. > It has a pistol silencer, quite common to find and repairable > Pistol scope for general use and hunting scope for, indeed, hunting. > In the city you can find the ammo boxes without going crazy... not too common, but not rare either. NOTE: > If I find a belt and holster it's better... > The Longhorn, being a single shot, I don't even consider it. In the back 1st Slot: Always a melee weapon. I used to use a Sledgehammer (powerful and it numbs), now that it has become a "mountain weapon" and you can't find it in the workshops and shipyards of the south (when we talk about "authentic" game), if I don't feel like going looking for it I "make do" with a "Negan Bat" (from the movie Walking Dead, a baseball bat with barbed wire). 2nd Slot: depends on what I find. At the beginning I look for at least a 12 gauge double-barreled shotgun (only buckshot, which should still be the most powerful shot in the game; 4/6 shots against a bear) that I cut short as soon as possible (and put in the backpack) and, looking well, I aim to get at least a Saiga (Vaiga) with 2 magazines of 8 (the minimum for hunting a bear currently). If I find the 20 magazine, I celebrate. This is my basic (long) weapon, since I don't do "manhunting", but only animal hunting or extreme defense. For the rest... it needs a separate discussion. > The 7.62x54 is a great shot (6/8 shots against a bear), but you only find single-shot weapons... they are not battle weapons, neither for attack nor defense (although, in video games, you can also find "phenomena" who fight with this type of weapons... I think only because it is a PC video game... maybe someone even with a "little illegal help", otherwise you don't fight with weapons like that. Surely not in reality). The SVD (VSD) is semi-automatic (not great, but better than the manual shutter), but too long and uncomfortable, with magazines too small and ... I hate Russian optics. ๐ > Then there is the .308 (7.62x51 approximately), also a good shot (8/11 shots for a bear). But it is still a hunting caliber ... apart from the FAL (LAR), but it is also quite long and uncomfortable with small magazines and only a plastic silencer (the serious ones are only found in the gassed areas: too much work to risk not finding anything ... Tried for fun a few times and then, often, with the administration tools to see what you find in the gassed areas: almost never anything useful, they look like helicopter crashes, a fest of bullshit). At least it has western sights (I only use the ACOG 6x), but everything else is negative. > The 7.62x39 (11/12 shots for a bear), the classic AKM, not bad, but now (if nothing has changed lately) it is very rare and only in gassed areas. Very rare silencer and for gassed areas like it and Russian sights. Quite common ammo, since they are considered "hunting". If you are okay with its original sight and you can find its silencer, also good and versatile. > The 9x39 (normal & AP: 11/17 shots for a bear [I don't know why this delta, tried several times... normal & AP same results]). For me, only the AS-VAL (SVAL) with 30 magazine and 6x ACOG sight is worth it... it is not an exceptional ammo but the new 30 magazine compensates... and the integrated suppressor and the western sight increase its value considerably. Sore Point: quite rare ammo to find. > The 5.56x45 (9/17 rounds for a bear. Here too a notable delta... huh ?!?) I think it's the most versatile ammunition there is... not too rare, quite powerful, even if not exceptional, but with 30-round magazines that you find without going crazy you can easily take down even a bear. Unfortunately, the best weapons (automatic, with magazines with at least 30 rounds, western sights and serious suppressors...) are extremely rare to find... and they change them often. I don't know about the 1.26/1.27 (I'm a bit behind), but for the 1.25: *) M14 was in gas zones, they moved it to the Military Crash. I haven't seen one for a long time anyway. *) AUG-A3 (AUR-AX) was for the Military Crash and they moved it to the Gas Zones. In fact, I don't see it anymore, unfortunately. I don't know about the others, there's always something missing... With my basic SetUp (MKII, Deagle & Saiga) I can get by well for everything. The Saiga is great for short-range defense and for bears... but it can't be silenced in any way, and it makes a lot of noise... only in case of extreme necessity... With the Deagle I can get by for hunting (which I haven't done since they nerfed the meat) and for short/medium-range defense (with the normal or hunting scope). However... In case I can't find a Saiga (not very common)... to abandon the double-barrel shotgun, I'm starting to evaluate an AS-VAL with a 30 magazine and a 6x ACOG scope... a bear will go down anyway and it's silenced (the only problem is the ammunition, which is very difficult to find). Or, if I find it, an AUG-A1 (AUR-A1)... it has a poor, but not terrible, scope (double, even if ugly), not too big, 30-round magazines that are good for a bear and with improvised suppressors you can get by a bit. I'm not convinced, but maybe it's better than a double-barreled shotgun, if only for the 30 5.56x54 rounds that, if used well, can be better than (just) 2 12-rounds. This is my current thought. Then, like everything else, it's just a matter of personal choice/taste. ๐

@Zerzala Exactly... this is the theory... this is how the game should work... as Sid Debian wrote above. But keep in mind that DayZ is full of bugs and anomalies, even on CE. So don't be surprised if you don't always get exactly what you set. But always check the XML files with an online validator, making a mistake with a space or a comma is a snap and the consequences can be the most absurd. I can recommend: www.xmlvalidation.com & codebeautify.org/xmlvalidator ๐
-
Actually I do the tests with DCOM (DayZ Community Offline Mode), I would never go and do this type of test on public servers... if that's what you thought. ๐ I also have 2 servers, one Vanilla and one modded, but it's still more convenient and practical for me to use the mod and its "micro-tool" for administration... the features of the game are the same (always the same game) and to simplify the test I go off the map (because the bears can't leave) and try shot by shot until the bear dies and I do the calculations ammo by ammo, weapon by weapon. When I read about changes to weapons, ammo or the bear, I update the statistics. However I also hunted the bear on public servers with my game doll, but only when I was sure of the weapon and the ammo... Now that they've poisoned the bear's meat they've ruined the pleasure of hunting for me... ๐ They're ruining this already bad game more and more... ๐
-
From what I've tested, 9x39 normal & 9x39 AP do the same damage... at least to bears, which is what I test from time to time.
-
@Zerzala Sorry but I don't speak English and I have to use Google which translates very roughly. I didn't understand your question very well, if you can explain it in a simpler way for Google translations, maybe I can help you in some way. It would help the exact text of the ^types.xml^ file (only the object you are interested in, you don't need the whole file). ๐

@Likvid-cb38db5edb1efdb0 I don't know why you put the "sad" reaction. If it's for the list of absurdities and unrealism of DayZ, I'll try to complete it and add it soon (but I fear it could start long controversies). If it's because you don't believe that the programmers do NOT intend to make it a "realistic" game, read these 2 links: 1) https://forums.dayz.com/topic/251751-dayzs-flawed-foundations-movement-and-gunplay/?page=10&tab=comments#comment-2494800 2) https://forums.dayz.com/topic/263334-experimental-update-126-change-log/?page=2&tab=comments#comment-2499089 ๐ -

If you want to make sure this issue reaches the developers' ears, you should open a ticket on their Feedback site. If you do, please report it in this thread, I'd be interested in following its development. ๐ค -

At least that's how it should be. I fear that for many reasons, for a long time (not only for Christmas events), it hasn't been like that... (I could make a looong list). And, on the other hand... by the programmers' own admission (through the voice of one of their representatives), they don't even intend to make it a serious and realistic thing... unfortunately. ๐ -
I've already written it in detail a few times, this one I'll summarize: I have a vanilla server, since 2020 (opened with 1.06 and the first update was 1.07) where I have NEVER done ANY WIPE! It doesn't have any particular problems of any kind other than its own "game programming problems"... the same ones you can find with a clean install. I have some bases scattered here and there and one (my main one, full of stuff accumulated in the first years of playing). Sometimes some friends have played it a bit too. I can let anyone who asks to test it try it. Server performance does NOT depend on the things accumulated but on the power of the processor used. Artificial intelligences consume a lot of the processor, if anything... try filling it with animals or infected and you will really see a nice drop in performance. The more people enter and the more animals and infected are activated, the more the server "gives in". The accumulated objects mean practically nothing, if you don't pass by them... and even then it ALL depends on the processor power. Above the modified servers we can discuss, I've had one for less years... anyway has NEVER been WIPE, but a lot changes depending on the combination of mods used. But that's another story. Server managers often use the "performance excuse" to do a WIPE (which many like because they have a distorted vision of the game) and often, also, because it's convenient to accuse the game of defects that actually depend on the mods themselves or on a poor "construction" of the "server combination" (vanilla server setting + combination of mods + setting of the same; it's a complicated thing, but if done well it works without further defects). Official servers: the WIPE does not improve performance by itself, it only eliminates the objects distributed throughout the map. If the server is well "structured" (I'm talking about the hardware server), nothing should change. If something really changes, then there is a problem, but not with the objects of the DayZ server, but with the hardware performance of the "machine server" used (or with a bad management/modification). The WIPE of the character is the most "NOT Necessary" thing ever!!! I still remember not to mix the discussions between: Vanilla DayZ Server, Modded DayZ Server & Used Hardware Server. The only real reason why a "Map WIPE" would be justifiable... which would not be "unavoidable" anyway... is in case of major changes to the map. I can confirm (and show to those who wish) that even in this case the "potential problem" is absolutely NOT serious: nothing skips, nothing gets tangled up... the whole game proceeds as if nothing had happened... with its "usual defects and problems". In my Vanilla server, running since 2020 without ANY WIPE, in one of the various updates of the map I found a lamppost inside a tent. No problems, no crashes, no glitches, no people flying or ending up inside the map... NOTHING of this sort! That pole has been there since I don't remember what year it was. I could choose to empty the tent, close it and move it... or accept the "grotesque" situation of the light pole inside a military tent (full of stuff and barrels full of stuff). I had no space to move it and it stayed where it was. Period. Absurd to see, ok, but EVERYTHING works perfectly. I can show and try if someone asked. A "serious and correct" manager could only warn players in time that in those coordinates (xxxx:yyyy) there will be changes to the map and to move any bases or, alternatively, that the "safety" of the same is not guaranteed. This would be "technically" possible and "ethically" required... as I see it. Even all the updates of the new items... It is true that a WIPE speeds things up, but if there are no programming errors or errors in editing the configuration file (at the beginning, my server was very modified, and I even made mistakes a few times... especially in the first few months... by making mistakes I learned better how it works. When I started the modded one, it returned original vanilla, always without any WIPE), a WIPE is NOT needed to add items... the loot cycle will do it anyway, sooner or later. And I can also confirm that some items... not present in the official servers, but still present in the game files... work correctly and are still present in my server... NOT all of them, obviously. Adding everything and removing the non-functioning ones, has NOT led to ANY disaster. You add, verify and remove the NON-functioning ones... everything will continue calmly as it should without any kind of disaster. I can also show this in person to anyone who wants to... So what? I don't just cry, I argue because I think the choice is wrong and unnecessary Does it bother you that much? Those who play DayZ for what it "should be" (according to the ad: https://www.bohemia.net/games/dayz) should hate and contest the WIPE. It shouldn't even be foreseen by whoever wrote this game (nor have I already discussed it enough). Those who look for and "enjoy" the WIPE are only those occasional players who are just looking for another "extravagant" version of ArmA, CoD or Battlefield. In my opinion, these people have just chosen the wrong game. @ all the potential critics: I can physically prove what I write in person... If you want to make me change my mind (always ready if really necessary), you must at least demonstrate your right and my wrong... I am a rational person who reasons, not a "flag that follows the crowd" (of numbers or chatter). Just think about this, without too many theoretical/philosophical discussions. Then, as a personal choice it can be discussed. A choice that I DO NOT share for the reasons that I have already expressed several times in more detail also in other threads. And with every wipe I will continue to contest both the real "technical necessity" and the real "opportunity for the game". I remember that we are in a democracy where the right to opinion and speech exists. I have not insulted or offended anyone, it seems to me... Have a good day everyone ๐
-
Why? For what purpose? All these wipes make you lose the desire to play... you never manage to conclude anything because everything is always deleted... and too often without good reasons, even... ๐ ๐ฅ ๐

The forum go down too often for several days now. And I'm sure it's not my problem because I use online sites that test sites and result exactly "off-line". Any problems with the forum/server? What's going on? It's strange to me that no one else has noticed or complained... I don't think it's just me.

This problem (vehicle management) has been around for a long, long time. What I can say from personal experience is that if you increase the processing power of the server's processor (power on a single core... unfortunately... even if you set everything to use all available cores... many server installations will use a single core: another known flaw. but not to everyone, from what I read), the problem is greatly reduced. In my personal server, when I changed processor (from an overclocked AMD FX 8 to an AMD Ryzen 7) I was also able to race with vehicles and set speed records... even with some friends (I don't know how many players it would have been able to manage at the same time. The server's FPS were many thousands and dropped slightly with each additional player. But it could have been a logarithmic progression...). When I rented one with Nitrado, even if it promised the world, the performance was always very poor, even with few players... I think that game server providers (certainly the "poorest") promise performance that they DON'T deliver. Always to save as much as possible, I think. I am convinced (but at the moment I do not have the time to try it), that a personal server with dedicated ad-hoc hardware is a better solution than any public provider. And the management of "automatisms" that the game does not provide natively, you can use "Omega Manager" (from what I have read). One of the next things I am planning... if I will find the time to do it. Surely, from direct experience, Dayz Server works on the raw power of a single processor core... and the functioning of the vehicles depends entirely on this. ๐
