@SillyJoe From my observation DayZ utilizes my GPU RTX 2070 @98%, resolution 3440x1440, all the time even in the main menu. Talk about optimization issues 😉
Rest of my PC is just chillin and I still get drops from ~100 FPS in the countryside to ~40 FPS in large urban area. Put that into the perspective of current consoles, there is very little that you can expect in terms of performance and I'm quite confident in saying that next gen consoles will just so so run it at 1080p or 1440p at best. There will still be massive drops and performance issues, but hopefully you will not get a power point presentation as a result 😄

DayZ is pretty odd when it comes to performance when I read about the experiences of others, like yours. I got a I7700K and GTX1070 and always have 60 fps in large urban areas. However, in certain forest areas my fps can drop till 45...

In the last EXP release, the wire mesh/hescobox was set to no longer spawn (nominal=0). @ jakub_bohemia is that intentional?

Adam said in his Tuesday stream that the hescoboxes were not supposed to spawn at industrial locations any more. So I guess they changed this in the last experimental update of Thursday. But they should spawn at military locations, I would guess.

  3. Thank you for the patch. I'm happy with the additions and changes that it brought. A bit disappointed that it is just one weapon though. I do really like the changes to the cooking system, the new locations on Chernarus and the inclusion of the new car wrecks on the map. The changes to basebuilding seem to be pretty good. I do have a few notes about it:

    • Breaking in with grenades still seem to be a bit too easy, as grenades are rather commonly found and you just need 3 to break in. The damage done by melee weapons and guns seem to be right;
    • The dismantling option still exist. This still gives enemy players that do break in your base the option to just dismantle the rest of your base. This increases griefing and gives also more power to large clans;
    • Ruined tents should not de-spawn upon server restart or within a short amount of time. With the changes (and I think those are good changes) other players could easily just destroy your tent for the lolz and make all the loot de-spawn. By having ruined tents de-spawn in two days or perhaps a week we have the chance to collect some loot from the destroyed tents.

Maybe I was over zealous on my first review. The brtuallity of noob player start infuriated me to no ends. However........ I have managed to survive and not Die. Apples and pears are my friends now. I'm still no Rick grimes, possibly I am a cillian Murphy from 28days later at the moment. A anti-hero of the zombie world.

I found a pick axe and figured you can make a soil patch and sow seeds And pour water on them to grow crops (ingenious) . I now have a bag full of peppers to munch nd crunch.

I however need to find a shovel. I have searched high and low but cannot find one. We're are the spades/shovels, aree they still in the Game on ps4? Good people of dayz were in godss green hell do I find one!?

Good of you to keep trying. You will notice it becomes easier.

Shovels are usually found in barns or those little sheds next to the houses. Just keep in mind that on same days the DayZ loot god favours you, and on other days it ignores your presence.

As another tip: besides canned food, animal meat it one of the best sources of energy. If you eat cow/deer/boar meat etc. you will able to keep on going for a while before requiring more food. Best way to do this is shoot them and then use a knife to cut them. Then prepare one of the cooking methods. This video might help:

Over 3 Month with nothing, no news, no hints, no feedback no experimental, no previews, no teasers, no communication!!!

There has been some info on the next patch and they answer tweets about it almost daily right now. According to the latest tweets they are wrapping up development on the new patch and start testing it.

i would be surprised it comes out this month.

Seeing that we are still supposed to get four more patches this year, they have to release this month. Or else we either get smaller successive patches or simply not five patches in total.

  7. Fun topic!

    I would say:

    • Trumpet and sporter
    • Writing notes
    • Car wrecks

I'd say this Friday. But then again I expected it to be last Friday as well. Was expecting an announcement after the last winner of the postcardz action ended.

By the way, is the temperature system for items not already in the game? Like how clothes help you make feel warmer.

  8. I agree completely! It is sad when you think about the excuse the devs gave back during the 1.0 release. Saying how the core gameplay loop is there and therefore the game is finished. Now we are like 1.5 years later and those ''Core gameplay loop'' features still do not work. Base building is worthless and cars are unreliable and still kill you from time to time..... Sure the game does get better with each patch, I cannot deny that. However, this poor excuse from back then still makes my head turn in disbelief.

What armа 4? Are you out of your mind? Where does this information come from? What a lie? There are no announcements and information about this anywhere.

Arma4 might not be announced, but the chances of it being in development are pretty high. It is Bohemia's flagship title and it is already known that they are working on a new game that is making full use of Enfusion (DayZ is a hybrid). Why not make your flagship title be the first to make use of the powers of a brand new engine? Additionally, Arma3 got released in 2013. The time is right for a new Arma title.

When the bow finally returns, the whole coastal zone can finally be rebalanced so assembling a working (low end) firearm will actually take some effort.

Yes! Bring back the trumpet and Sporter!

Getting the bow/crossbow back in would be amazing, but you all are forgetting improvised tents that are in the game files since 0.63 (or beyond?) I want to make a small tent of animal leather, a campfire and sit next to with my repeater and bow.

If TRMZ isn't a good server than I don't know what it is. 40 ping, no mods, community...and I'm flying while I driving.

To be honest. I joined TRMZ server a week ago and had a slight delay in actions and a lot of infected were stuck or unresponsive. A day before I played on the Dayzafterdark server (80/80) and the performance was great as far as I noticed. Just an observation though, maybe the TRMZ server had a bad day.

So, at this point we can say vehicles will never work? I'm trully shocked by this, GTA San Andreas Multiplayer (2004), 16 years old game have multiple functional vehicles (including Helicopters, Boats etc..) but Dayz in 2020 cannot. I'm...speechless.

Can't compare those two different games.

fair enough actually.  i can see your point and even agree with you on many points as it can def be frustrating to build something awesome and find it gone.  i have just always used ark as my building game and play dayz in a much different way.  i need to realize that many ppl have a far different playstyle than myself and that the beauty of dayz is that there is no right way to play it.

i get where you are coming from tho.  if i put in the effort to have an actual base in dayz im sure id prob end up pretty salty about it pretty fast.

I agree that the sandbox nature makes DayZ such a unique game. Thankfully the massive map of Chernarus lends for different playstyles without it being too obtrusive. Dunno if you ever played Miscreated. That game had a decent balancing for base raiding but suffered from ugly looking bases everywhere on the map. It really took away the immersion.

Last time I constructed a base in Dayz was back with 1.01. Took a long time to build. Got raided a few times. No biggie as they just smacked one wall down, I happily spend some time fixing that. However, one day I logged on to see my whole base dismantled.

  13. 15 minutes ago, FunkInYourTrunk said:

tldr:  saying you are not whining while whining is still whining.  bases should be easy to break.  bases arent neccessary maybe they should be taken out alltogether and we go back to tents

I have seen this opinion on base building before and I have to respectfully disagree with it. Don't take this the wrong way, but most of the times I can understand why somebody prefers something different, even though it is the opposite of my opinion. Sadly, I simply cannot understand why anyone would support the current balance of base building (i.e. easy to lose). I'm pretty sure that you have never put the time into building a base. Better yet, I am confident that you never agreed for base building to be introduced into the game. I know that I will not convince you, but just to throw the word out again.

Base building should be a time sink. Something that in my opinion DayZ is doing perfectly well. Nobody wants a map clusterd by tons of bases. Making it a time sink, it rewards players that go the extra mile to establish a base. However, raiding a base should be a time sink as well. Better yet, destroying a complete base should take an insane amount of time. Why would anyone bother to make a base if it can be raided within 10 minutes? Currenly it takes tons of hours to find all the materials and just a simply hatchet from a shed to raid a base of its content. This is not balanced. A few arguments that I came across are:

    1. Just hide in a good place

No. You simply cannot hide a base and expect it never to be found. Every base, even the best hidden bases, will be found within a matter of weeks.

          2. Just guard the base, and if you can't, you should not have a base. (Or in other words, base building is purely for huge clans)

So first this alienates a huge player base of dedicated solo players or people that just play with a couple of friends. Then again, even groups of four to five people won't be online all the time. To have at least one person defend the base at all time is insane. People have lifes as well and no time to always defend their virtual base.

          3. Bases a mostly build out of wood so should be easy to break.

It is a game. Be happy that that bases are actually made in a way that they blend in perfectly with the environment.

as for the "so i should have to collect nails for 10 hrs just so someone can break my wall in 20 seconds"  arguement.... yes, yes u should.

I simply cannot understand why anyone would agree with this. Bases should be raidable by some dedicated attack party, but should not be completely demolished within 20 minutes by a fresh spawn with a hatchet. You can't compare a base that takes tons of hours to be build with a new character that you will receive with the press of a button. Sure if somebody is so desperate for high-end loot they might, but I guess most people aren't.

    28 minutes ago, FunkInYourTrunk said:

(the way they decided to make it) and you post about how (they way they decided to make it intentionally)

They never intended to make base building like this, considering they are going to revamp it.

    35 minutes ago, FunkInYourTrunk said:

you arent supposed to be able to die 100 times and just run back to base to get new gear and jump back into the pvp.

I agree with this. However, this is more of a problem with burried crates than base building. Lets ignore burried crates for a second. Bases should still be raidable, so your loot should be able to be taken by other players. I think nobody wants unraidable bases, at least I havent' come across these opinions.

Most of all I hope they get the weird desync stuff going on under control, along with the dodgy vehicle physics. If those two major issues are taken care of the game will be in a great state.

This and a balanced out basebuilding and I think the game is finally getting there. I don't care that much about helicopters or two-wheeled vehicles. I just want the core game loop to be finally fully functioning after more than one year.  Man, that had to be one of the worst lines that ever came from the dev-team. Releasing DayZ as 1.0 because the core gameplay loop is in place. One year later and cars still kill you and bases still can be raided by a fresh spawn with a hatchet. Ah well, this is just beating a dead horse by now. I just want that to be working and to finally have broken bones and ragdoll effects.

i predict 1.08 in April but it's probably gonna be may and i kinda hope it's gonna be broken limbs in it.. because remember... they confirmed broken limbs for sure this year... so imma guess 1.08 or 1.09 😛

I would expect April too. Five patches this year. So roughly for stable branch it would be: February 1.07, April/May 1.08, July 1.09, September 1.10 and lastly in November 1.11.

Right not very happy.  Rain has been in for some time, but we have no protection from it.  In the old days raincoats actually cave you protection, but not any more also gorca.  I'm a little fed up of getting hyperthermia from rain and the server I'm on has it at least 3 times a day.  Suppressors get worn out far to quickly.  It's that quick there is hardly any point in using them.  This has been an issue for some time as well and should be a straight forward fix like protection from the rain.  And anyone else getting desync when driving a car?  I get a lot on a low pop server and with a low ping rate.  I have lost a few cars due to it which is a bit frustrating.

Just commenting on your statement that there is no protection against the rain. This is incorrect. I just stood 10 minutes in heavy rain with the raincoat and gorka pants. The raincoat never got damp/wet and the gorka pants only after ~10 minutes. The temperature icon remained white all the time. When I changed the time of day to midnight, the temperature icon turned to light blue. But it still never turned dark blue. Then I changed the raincoat with the t-shirt, and that piece of clothing got drenched within a minute.

So to conclude, the raincoat gives very good protection against rain and the gorka outfit does a decent job at it. Perhaps the raincoat turns wet as well after 30 minutes. But then again, it part of the game to heat up during long raining sessions.

    Oh, almost forgott.

i hope in the near future there will be some little improvised shelter posibilities. maybe a little shelter that one could craft out of a view long sticks and some bushes or animal skin or tarp.

maybe that could be leaned on a tree or a rock. or you would be able to dig a little trough, or hole.

just some sort of mini base that would fit the needs of a lonley wolf.

so one could build some stealthy mini bases.

and it would be nice to be able to craft a net, out of some ropes. two, maybe four ropes, i guess thats up to the balancing of the game.

so one could also make some ghilly nets with addition of some foilage for the mini shelter. that would be neat.

so again, see you next year!

People found improvised tents in the game files when 0.63 was released for the first time. Hopefully we will see it somewhere in 2020.

  18. I agree that building a base works fine, but as you said, it is so poorly balanced that it is just a worthless feature. And that is a pity since it could be a great time sink and offer so much fun possibilities.

My problem with the infected is that they act so cheap. You still move right threw them sometimes when fighting, the poor pathfinding in buildings and sometimes in combat, the missing turn animation (without animation they just turn around) and the lack of aggressive stance animations. Sit in a house and look out the window when surrounded, they way they are animated and behave looks so poorly and cheap.

I just want them to fix the current things first before implementing stuff like helicopters and two wheeled vehicles. I rather play a game that has a stable core gameplay. Now even one year later I still don't see a reason to message my buddy and say: let's fix up a car and build a base somewhere! No it still remains walking around and doing pvp. At least the survival elements were improved...

  19. Great list, but quite shocking to see what still  needs to be implemented and fixed. It is mind baffling to think that game is actually released for already a year.

Also, I would like to add the poorly implemented base building that we have since 1.0 and the infected that still act rather poorly.

  20. Thanks for the patch! Hopefully we see another hotfix before the Christmas holidays will start.

I have been toying around with 1.06 a bit on Livonia. Barely played 1.05 as I spend my time on some other games. Can say so far that Livonia is a very pretty map. Feels new, love the ruined structures with the ivy overgrowth. I am also happy to see fishing back, four weapons, better car wrecks with obtainable car parts, the bear etc. Great sizable patch, although I have to say that all the other patches in 2019 were pretty good as well. Always coming each 1,5 month and with new content and/or features. Still missing a lot of of stuff though. Ragdoll, bone fractures, helicopters, planes, two-wheeled vehicles, other animals, weapons and probably some more that I can't think of right now. Personally I do not mind as the content/feature flow was pretty good in 2019 and I am confident this will be the same in 2020. What bothers me though, and probably the main reason why I write this, is that some core game features are still not working properly. Features that we already have for around a year or longer. Cars/server performance still does not function properly, base building is still poorly implemented, weather effects on character are not proper, diseases feel not finished and infected are pretty crap. I think it is pretty sad that such important core game mechanics still work half-assed after a year after the so-called ''cough'' 1.0 release ''cough'' . So please BI, fix and develop the important core features first. It is already taking too long.
