  1. The key difference being that none of those project were early access. Also, Duke Nukem was developed from scratch about three times in that whole time..so, bad example. Of course people will complain if there's no progress for months on end...and absolutely rightly so. There's plenty of early access titles of various scopes and styles that worked out well, in shorter times, with even smaller teams and without a big, backing company like Bohemia behind them, so it's really no excuse. The early access release happened too soon and the whole development process was too erratic for a long time, the fact that the engine (or core parts of it) is being changed AFTER public release is the only proof needed for that.

Will night vision take away from Dayz ?

NVGs need to be properly balanced to have a place in DayZ without ruining it. The goggles themselves need to be just about the rarest item in the game. As with real NVGs, they should have a severely limited view distance, to quote ATN, a real live manufacturer of night vision: "We typically state that you can tell the difference between a male and a female or a dog and a deer at about 75 to 100 yards. However, if you were looking across an open field and there was a half moon out you could see a barn or a house 500 yards away." They absolutely should not be as they were in the mod or as they are in ArmA 3, where they basically just brighten up the scene and turn it green, none of the actual drawbacks of NVGs come across. Then I believe they should have battery drain that makes operating them for long stretches of time pretty much unfeasible without carrying 20 extra batteries. Should be a situation where, if you have a set, you turn it on in short intervalls...say to loot a building a night. Needless to say, you should not be able to use weapon sights of any kind. There is a reason every modern soldier has some sort of IR laser aiming device on their rifle, because you cannot use optics (much less iron sights) with NVGs on, unless you have a waaay forward mounted holosight and high-end binocular NVGs.

    New public character handling sucks³

Because it was not "working well". What's so bad about just going back to the server you played on before? Oh right...can't server hop for gear. Besides that, official servers are still all linked. Personally, I think connected hives should not be a thing at all. Having individual servers without hives would take some pressure off the already overloaded network architecture and it would get rid of all the issues that global characters bring with them.
  4. I actually think it's not too bad an idea. This neatly avoids the issue of asshats renting their own servers to loot undisturbed and then flood then official servers with the gear. It just needs to be clearly differentiated in the server browser. Also, filtering servers by active character needs to work right after starting the game, not after I have played a character.

    Exp Update 0.62.139507

Dunno if this an 0.62 issue or not, haven't played in quite a while, been even longer since I had one of the damn things in working order; The M68 red-dot. I had one earlier, with a battery. Can someone tell me if the brightness of the dot is affected by battery charge? The thing was so faint, it reached the point of uselessnes, because it took longer to try and see the damn dot, than it took to line up the irons.

    Stable Update 0.61.136770

This does not seem like the best idea.... .60's been running fine. Most of all, it's been pretty stable. And now you push a version that's suffering when there's heavy server load, during the time of the probably highest load of the year, because people have time over the holidays. I would've thought having some people whine about the lack of updates for 3 more weeks would be better than having loads of people whine about crabby performance for 3+ weeks.
Was hätte ich davon, grundlos irgendeinen 08/15 Private-Server schlechtzureden? ;)
  8. Würde vom Server abraten. Der/die Admins starten gern den Server neu, wenn man sie tötet und warten dann nach dem Neustart darauf, dass ihr "Killer" sich einloggt. Typische Kinder mit Admin-Passwort eben.. __________________________________________ I would advice against playing on this server. Admins like to restart the server when you kill them so that they can wait for you to log back and shoot you before you even see a picture. Typical kiddies with admin access.
  9. So, fellow bandits. Can someone share appropriate/good hiding spots for a helicopter? Me and my group got buzzed twice by one yesterday (he took off after we engaged with rifles both times). We found the camp of a group on our server, but they weren't the ones that have the Huey. We pretty much covered all the "helo-fit" clearings in the hills up north with ATVs and motorcycles...we can't find it..it's gotta be somwhere. Any ideas? ;)

    SIDE CHAT

Autoban for a cmd in the background? Wow...that's.....so I'd get banned if I play at 10pm my time, cause that's when my robocopy backup-script (in cmd.exe aka a command prompt) is running automatically every day? That's cool... And also, I start DayZ via a batchfile cause the Six Updater/Launcher is just a heap of random code in my opinion, never seen a more over-engineered (read: crappy) piece of software.

Why the hell are there so many guns?

You my friend, just failed. If you actually looked instead of being a smartass right away....the "PDW" in ArmA II..is a Micro Uzi, it's just called PDW. There is neither an MP7 nor an MP5K.
  13. A case of friendliness in the harsh world of DayZ....and what an epic night it was. My team and me ( a total of 8 guys, tonight only 7 tho) had hidden our vehicles in the woods (a place IMPOSSIBLE to see from the outside...you had to stumble upon it) I was logged out and most of the team spread out looting/killing when someone attacked and killed the two guys that were left behind at the tent. I quickly logged back in...and got shot before I even spawned (which turned out to be a blessing....cause I respawned with all my gear...still had my M017) The others moved back to the camp and saw the guy drive off with our white Pickup. They engaged him...hit him multiple times with SVDs and Mk48s....he didn't go down. They all got shot. So it was all me, hoofing it up there with my gear. When I got up there, the Pickup was in flames...and so was our camp, all the vehicles gone, 2 ATVs destroyed. My guys had just mostly found their scattered bodies to get their loot back. I was near our campsite with one more guy when suddenly a helicopter (later turns out to be hacked...by the same guy who killed us at our camp) lifts out of the woods about 500 meters away. I quicky lined up my M107 and pumped 8 rounds into it. I hit the pilot at some point, cause I saw blood gushing from the helo, the engine went off and it crashed in a rock formation with a huge explosion....igot one murder. But two more guys died. So as it turned out, ANOTHER group (the server owners and friends) were in the SAME area and had shot at the helo too...and two of them got killed by the crashing helicopter (what are the odds?). They had been looking for our camp, since we had raided theirs (and shot three of them in it) just two days ago. We had stolen all their loot, the UAZ and the Ural. So I quickly hopped onto their TS an we got to talking.....and in the end, we had the groups (13 people..every person that was on the server at that point...) merged at one place, on a temporary truce. We shared the loot from the dead and talked some. The groupst were mixed within each other....and trust wasn't exactly high because of the mutual camp-raiding and prior engagements. People were getting more and more edgy....more and more people having their weapons raised. In case of a snap...the odds would've been in our favor (2 more people...and 2 medium machine guns) but it still would've been ugly. So we quickly worked something out. The two busses we had stashed a way off from our camp (didnt wanna move them through the woods) were quickly split, one bus for each group and we went our seperate ways in peace, not a single shot fired. We went to find antibiotics...no idea what they did....but we had two more bus-bourne run ins, both ended with a few friendly honks and no more shots fired. After that tho, we gave everyone in our group clearance to fire. We didn't want them following us anymore. We didn't run into them anymore, so all went quiet. The next encouter will occur on other odds and probably wont end friendly...but it sure as hell was nice to see that two groups, geared as they were, can NOT shoot at each other for once and instead come to an agreement. So to you HoT guys: cheers brothers, was a fun night, we had some laughs. And all ended good for us in the end. We're looking forward to repelling your next attempts to find our camp and get your stuff back!

    Hiding places for helicopters?

Wouldnt that mean it resets when the server restarts? I'll check the other places...haven't even considered Zub yet....
  15. pixel91

To all spawn killers out there!

THIS! Take it up with Rocket, dudes. Or tell me what else I am supposed to do if I have all the gear and ten vehicles stashed somewhere (yes, me and my group have ten vehicles). Only thing I can do is hunt players.
  16. pixel91

    What gear do you rock?

Primary: Mk48 (already used to cut down three players when they re-entered their camp (where I had the gun from) and an M107 when on "overwatch" aka lurking. Secondary: M1911 The usual kit, food and water (enough to survive a few hours), 2 morphine and 2 painkillers, the rest is kept clear for any loot I might find and need (still need NVGs and Rangefinder...lost mine to some douchebags rockig no trees....)
  17. Just dealt with a hacker/teleporter on the server FR 136. We first saw him when we drove by Black Mountain. He shot at us with a silenced weapon. We kept driving. I left the car 600 meters down the road and got out. SHot 3 aggro zombies and bandaged myself. Just as I finished bandaging, someone was inside the UAZ and drove off. We cursed a little but moved in the same direction. Not two minutes later, he came back, driving towards us in the UAZ, honking. I shot him up with the AS50, he died, the UAZ exploded. We went our merry way, moved to the NE Airfield. We been stalking some dude who shot my friend (he disconnected) and soon we heard an ATV. He kept driving all around us, honking his horn until we finally managed to shoot him. Same guy (killfeed told us the name). I went to check the body of my dead friend on the airfield and my other buddy drove to me with the ATV we had just taken from the guy. He stops next to me, and as we go to loot the body, behind us our ATV suddenly starts and starts to drive away, a player on it. I manage to shoot him down. Same guy again. His name was "Borak the Rapist".

Who knew it shot so far.

I simply don't get why you people would trade a perfectly good M16 for the inferior M4....it doesn't make sense.
  19. I seem to be getting more and more lucky lately. I had logged out about a kilometer south of Stary when I last played and that's where I logged back in. I moved towards Stary, intent on whipping out my M107 and kill some players. I move to my favourite little vantage point.and unpack my M107. I set up, put my FAL into my pack and start scanning. Nothing in Stary..nothing in Novy. As it was already late (and I only wanted to play a few minutes) I decided to move out again and log off at a safe distance. So I shuffle my gear around again when I suddenly I hear a Winchester going off somewhere to the east...and again...and again. I heard about 6 six shots in total. I smelled blood. I quickly swapped my primaries again, choosing the FAL for this fight. I move towards where I heard the Winchester shots. I don't hear anything anymore...I don't see anything either. Suddenly, twenty meters in front of me, someone opens up with an M14 on rapid fire, letting off about 10 rounds in rapid succession. I stop, slightly shocked.....I bring my FAL to bear...BANG BANG. Bandit Kills: 1 What was he shooting at? Winchester Guy? I look past the now dead guy and see two more figures in the trees...just shades....I say fuck it. I line up my sights....BANG BANG....observe...movement...BANG BANG. Murders: 3 I swivel a little to the right, someone else in the trees. BANG BANG. I see blood, no kill. I don't want him to get away so I blow out about 8 more rounds...trying to hit my target. Murders: 4 Finally. I reload and move behind a rock, observing my surroundings. No more movement. Loot time! I'm already decked, but still like to check. I check the bodies...one has an M14, with a DMR in his pack...ammo....ALICE pack...nightvision. The next one is carrying an M107, explaining why he never took a shot, he was simply too close to aim properly with that beast. He also had a FAL with no Ammo in his pack. Then there is Winchester guy, who got shot moments before I arrived at the scene. He didn't have much of use on him....just some poor sod, trying to get to Stary for better guns. Time to check the last one...M14...Coyote backpack...nightvision...Mountain Dew! I had just drilled into a loot source. I took the two NVGs for buddies, bagged the Dew (finally!), replenished water and food on the dead guys beans and moved on, leaving the bodies for the next guy to hit the jackpot. I'm telling you....every DayZ evening could start like that.
  20. So me and my group were just coming back from a successfull loot run and were on our way back to camp. Me and two others were in our UAZ (I was driving) and our sniper/scout was a little ways behind us on our newly found motorcycle. We were driving towards Grishino on a dirt trail, coming from the east....going west. I spot something on the field to the left, but the vision gets blocked by trees as I drive on...I get on Teamspeak "Hey guys....I _think_ there's a player in the field...I'm not sure tho...I'm just gonna keep driving." So I drive and look to the left...sure enough, two players in the field, one with a ghillie. If we stop now, they get a perfect shot...so I stay on the gas. But the two decided to fire anyway, I hear several shots and about the third one hit....me. I drop unconscious...the car rolls out. The other two jump out just as I come to again (after only about a second). I still had my finger on the button...so as soon as I came to, the car sped up again, leaving the other two without cover. I stop after about 30 meters and jump out, running to the other side of the car to bandage. One of my buddies soon joins me and behind us I hear our machinegunner let off a burst. He was silenced by more enemy fire, he was dead. Shot with a DMR. Me and my buddy are pinned behind the car, I'm down to 4000 blood....but we can't waste time on bloodbags, we have to fight. So we peek up, looking around the car and through the windows. The terrain is heavy...with slopes and berms, covered in foliage. We see them, but they can't see us. So my mate makes a run down the road, about a hundred meters and into some bushes. I stay behind the car, not wanting to risk my life by getting out. I see the enemies....they're trying a pincer...one moves over the right flank, one tries to hit from the back and left. If they get through, they have me. Suddenly I see the guy on the right drop dead, my mate shot him with his silenced M4, this gives me room to breath and enables me to help my mate get closer to the second guy. My vision was dark, shaky and blurry...so aimed fire was out of the question. I lean around the car and just shoot my FAL into the general direction of the remaining enemy. My mate used the chance to get closer, moving in and firing. He fires his M4 and hits the guy, driving him back into the foliage. We want to take him down. "I'm going for Fox's SAW" I yell in TS and make a run to the body of our dead friend. I drop my FAL and pick up the SAW....193 rounds left...I point it towards the enemies last known and start spraying. Our sniper was now in position in the woods too (wearing a ghillie), but he didn't see the guy. We move in....he's gone...disconnected. We regroup and loot, picking up our dead friend's gear and the loot of the enemy (who, as it turns out, only had a 1911...nothing else, weapon-wise.) So as I loot, my mate BAEM sees a ghillie suit in the wood and goes in TS BAEM: "Hey Sven (our sniper) there you are." Sven: "Yeah man, I got you covered." BAEM: "Why did you just drop unconscious?" Sven: "What are you talking about? I'm kneeing here, watching Pixel." So, as it turned out. The guy we shot at, disconnected. Went on another server, moved to the forest right next to us and logged back in. But he dropped unconscious and was now just laying there, at our mercy. BAEM asked whether he should shoot him. Well of course! So I expected to hear a few silent shots from an M9SD....but instead I hear nothing and see BAEM shuffling around. Well, the sadistic ass took the M107 out of his backpack.... Now, imagine the face on that poor server hopper, as he is unscious, having the GIANT muzzle of a M107 pointed at his head.... BANG BANG. Second guy dead, his head mashed by two .50 rounds, fight over. Lesson learned: If you're gonna server hop, make sure you dont go unconscious. ;)

    IM SO MUCH DONE

Funny thing is that rabbits are client-sided. I watched some relatively poorly equipped guy last night, doing something at a (to me) empty spot of field. I was like...what the hell is this guy doing? Then as he made a fire, it became clear.

    camps

I just recently found a HUGE camp. It was completely fenced off with tanktraps, sandbags and barbed wire. Took me 30 minutes just to get to the center, where I found about 15-20 tents...filled to the brink with stuff. Me any my team took it all happily. Raided the camp twice....didn't get vehicles...but a lot of gear. Just a few: 2x M4 SD 2x M107 4x AS50 2x SVD 2x FAL ANPVS 2x FAL 2x M14 5x NVG 7x GPS 4x Antibiotics 5x Ghillie Suit 3x Camo Clothing At least 20 Coyote Backpacks (duping, anyone? We found out how they could've done it...not gonna tell you tho.) Plus a crapload of ammo, car parts and medical supplies. Of course, there's nothing left now. We used the almost countless amount of satchels in the camp to blow the whole thing up after we got everything we needed. It did reset all the tents and barricades on server restart tho...but nothing is left anymore. I'll see if I can make a video of it later
  23. What I found, is that you actually find more people on the airfield, if there's less players on the servers. On full servers, everybody is probably thinking "damn....45 players....there's gotta be a lot of guys at the airfield...better not go there right now" BUt, I can partially relate. Everybody tells you "if you go to the airfield, you gotta have good weapons! And don't go alone!" I can't tell you how often I did solo runs to the NWAF with nothing but a winchester...

    AS50 vs SVD Camo

No. It is not. You may be referring to the M107 (i use that one) which is a cannon. The AS50 has one weird-ass sound-sample, it's incredibly quiet. And no, it isnt quiet to zombies. They don't actually "hear", they get the soundvalue transferred to them if they're within "earshot" and react to it. Players tho, who actually hear the soundfile of the gun, to them, the AS50 is almost silenced. You actually hear your average AK or M16 from further away than the AS50. This has nothing to do with DayZ tho. I actually made a post on this on the BIS forums, because I bought the BAF-DLC and then was incredibly disappointed, that the L115 and the AS-50 both have the same soundfile that they already have in BAF-Lite...and that soundfile is just utter bullshit. It's low quality, it's too quiet and sounds NOTHING like the real deal (much like the ingame M134 Minigun, btw) Even the M107 in ArmA II is way too quiet and flat sounding, but at least you can hear that thing realistically. If you shoot it, everyone within at least a kilometer will hear it, and the sound is unique so players will know what is shooting. So in my books, the AS-50 wins by a landslide to the SVD. Why? 1. The scope is much more intuitive (and no, I'm not counting the rangefinger of the SVD as a pro for it, cause you can measure distances with the Mil-Dots just as well) 2. It has zeroing up to 1,6 km and it IS effective at that range. 3. The ammo is so much more common. You can find M107 mags in deerstands and every other military lootpoint. SVD ammo....you can only find that along with the actual rifle on heli crashes..or if you're lucky enough to find a 7.62 ammobox in the barracks. 4. It is quieter...much quieter. It's bullshit...but it is, as it is. And I love how people factor in the camo of the SVD. Yes it's cool to carry one while ghillied up. But have you PLAYED DayZ, or ArmA II, for that matter? Did you not notice, that the damn grass isnt rendered for more than maybe 200-300 meters? At ranges beyond that, you'll stick out no matter if you wear civvies or a ghillie and no matter if you carry the SVD or the fifty. And here the AS-50 plays it's big advantages. With that thing, you can sit a kilometer away and shoot effectively, and score first hit kills, it is hard for people to see you at that distance, even with unrendered grass. With the SVD, you have to be a hell of a lot closer. Just for kicks: Install the J.S.R.S. soundmod and hop into the editor/armory, to see what a light fifty in ArmA II CAN sound like.
  25. It seems to be a little hit and miss. I lost one ghillie suit a few days ago. After logging out and back in 30 minutes later, I was in the same spot, with all my gear and stats...just that I was wearing Civ clothes instead of my ghillie. Found another one yesterday, put it on and everything was fine. Can access gear and and cars (just had to wait a few seconds directly after putting it on) just fine, no problem. Also survived one relog after a short internet-outage on my part. I'll see if I still have it today after work.
