Haha 1 out of 10 Zeds running after me like Poopy pants would be funny actually xD -- The idea of having varying types of moving Infected is an idea in itself, an actual great one! Basically have OMGkiller fast Strong Zed, Normal Zed who move a little bit slower than us, and Poopy Pants Weak ones. I like :D Honestly though, I hope they are doing MOCAPs for the new controller that will translate onto the Infected bodies. They look so unnatural currently. . -- I have a dream where I play DayZ and look through a town and can't tell who is an Infected and who is a player, except for the noises they make and their close-up appearance.

Hey guys, just a small discussion on the Infected. It seems like when .61 first came out, the Infected's senses were on point and they were fast, strong, and could find you by the smallest sound. . Now, they're like hungover college students that I can run behind and not aggro, they won't catch up to me, they don't follow as far, and they just plain aren't a danger anymore. What happened?? The game felt so much more immersing and actually brought a lot of players in cooperation because we were afraid of the Infected. That was a GOOD thing! I want to see them back to their scary state so this game goes back to being harsher with threats existing further than other players or the mischance of being caught unawares by wolves, enhancing the first and most capital of threats in this game; The Infected!

I see most of you think it's server performance, but when I was playing on .61 on Exp on FULL servers, they reacted just fine in their massacring ways. It was in streams as well. . I think the addition of cars is what drugged out the Infected, perhaps.

Is this game (full paid version) worth buying now?
Espa replied to stefos71's topic in New Player Discussion
Don't listen to the naysayers of this game, it is an original and unique experience that you won't forget. It will test your morality, how you read people, eventually give you knowledge of a huge map, and in general give you feelings that no other game can. Things are more real in DayZ, because you can spend hours doing things with one character and then run into a hostile stranger who will take your efforts and end it in an instant. Death has a weight here (Not enough yet, but is rising) If you want to play a beautiful and anxiety-ridden game, play. The game is worth more than it's Steam price in terms of hours that will be put in, and .62 should be right around the corner, with .63 in the later part of the year (Knock on wood) -
Good thing is, we get news tomorrow about it :D I sincerely hope they're done with it or at least capable of throwing it on EXP by this Thursday

I'm hoping the new animation system will incorporate MOCAPs of the player and the Infected in physical combat, as in grappling and holding and biting. That would be the best! They definitely need a different animation while running (They look like they have poopy pants) and some fiercer looking attacks.. This clowny pinwheel is just odd. I'd opt for them crawling around on the ground like Smeagol and leaping at us, even.

DayZ Colony (Whitelisting | PvP + RP + PvE | Advanced Role-Play)
Espa replied to Weyland Yutani (DayZ)'s topic in Servers
I was playing with my friend that I randomly met here a little while ago and we had a little adventure ^_^ Started in Berezino where we ran around the town looking for each other for a short bit, then moved to the Northwest direction. Eventually we came upon a man in the distance looting some houses and decided to intercept them! My friend, being a newer and kinder player, approached and initiated conversation -- While I went around a house in a crouched mode and took aim with my pistol. Though the man didn't seem a threat, he was still another mouth to feed and I didn't want to take him along for the venture. A quick aim of my gun and a trigger squeeze and their head popped like a watermelon. Made our way through a few more towns and while looting in the police station, someone snuck up on me and I had a moment of panic, machinegunning my mouse to fire at this guy! His body slumped over in a riddled mess and I sighed a relief. Moving further on in the hunt for interaction, be that battle or friendly! Colony is awesome <3 -
I would like to think that their business methods and direction were for more than just porting, and I do see the money involved in such a successful venture, but that rubs me the wrong way that they would take so much time out of their roadmaps to deliver to a host of gamers that haven't been waiting for years for their product. . I mean, currently DayZ is 35$ on Steam in it's Alpha state -- Do they expect to pump out a full 59.99$ console game soon? I really doubt it. . This development just punishes everyone by pushing away release further and further. I could see .63 happening around the end of the year, with 1.0 maybe a year further than that (Cautiously positive) - With Console porting perhaps a few months after that. I mean, if BI wanted to rake in some cash with their works, why did they not port Arma 3 to Consoles? It would have done exceptionally well AND they already have the product. . Like I usually say, this just looks like another example of All-Eggs-In-One-Basket that the Devs seem to follow.

I actually love this topic about Character Value and how the world shapes our world in how much they mean to us. I mean, there's obviously the abundance of loot, but that'll change as Beta hits I am sure. Some things I could see as potentially expanding the Character Value would be some things written above and some new things. But Most Importantly, it's about extending gameplay and giving the player more things to do as a player -- So that the road to feeling 100% complete should take many days. 1.) Less Gun loot/More civilian loot that can be used offensively/defensively. 2.) More Damaged/Worn Guns instead of Pristine - Giving even more value to guns, the Pristine would be like finding a Wonka Golden Ticket, whereas the Damaged/Worn would be the norm. This would also give more attention to Weapon Cleaning Boxes. 3.) More Creative Item Usages - Like more civilian-made traps to be used against others, as well as AI. (This includes finding these devices already put together) 4.) A bit on the Meta-Realm, but Steam Achievements for lasting a long time, doing specific actions, etc with one character. 5.) An Incentive to play together! (Like a Teaching AoE when you play with other players - When they do a specific action, if someone is within 5 feet of them, they learn it 25/50% faster?) 6.) Improving VOIP and making there many more ways to communicate with players (Like different kind of radios with sfx, city-wide PA systems, bullhorns, radios with music and looping refugee statements) 7.) A huge one and maybe the most important - Make the world HARSHER. Don't allow solo players any rest or convenience. Make it so Infected will mess you up everytime you encounter them, make it colder/hotter with less supplies to help, and make the predators more in abundance. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ As for towns/cities, I really wish we could find a lot more than just guns to make ourselves feel safer - Like I said before, more civilian loot that can be used offensively/defensively would make everything that much more immersive. Examples would be, Molotov Cocktails, Taser/Dart Guns, loads more melee weapons, harpoon guns, DIY metal shields, lots more uses with the tripwire, homemade explosives, acid-traps, making custom weapons from different goods (Duct Tape + Syringes full of X), and a lot more. I want to be able to go into cities and find MORE loot, but have it all be beneficial in various ways - but subtly have there be many more uses for it. When finding a gun, I should freak out and name it and give it love - But the rest of the time looting, I should be able to stop and go, "Oh. . There's a knife in that house, and I have a long wooden stick. I could make a javelin to throw silently into a target!) -- Or something even like, "Oh I could bundle up all this clothing into a bunch of rags, then I can make a Knap-sack!" -- Or find a Box of Nails, A Jar, some black powder poured in from dismantling bullets, with a tripwire connected to a small energy source! Then someone can walk over it and be blasted into looking like Pinhead from Hellraiser xD

Truly I wish they weren't working on the XBONE or PS4 and would just put their full efforts into the PC version. By working on porting, it will likely detract from the progress made on PC 1.0 and both consumers' hype will have seriously diminished by release. Just get us to 1.0 on PC and then they can start the port. That would give them more time to raise their scoring on online sites, allow people to make mods for it, and just be at a better place with the community. Am I the only one that is just like, Shut up already, when it comes to these people that ask about the port every single day? Blah lol

Advertising for what looks to be a veryyyy solid group of people, twitchers, and hardcore RP :D I just signed up to be Whitelisted!

Honestly I just play on DayZ Underground, even if it's with the public and there's KOS. Private RP servers are also awesome and I dabble in there also, but there's something to the randomness of strangers and the lethality of KOSers being all around you. It adds to the tension and the seriousness in meeting others, but also the satisfaction of befriending someone and actually gaining mutual trust. Lots of good places out there! I just go there because there's (sometimes) nice people and high population.

YESSSS haha. Dude, Natural Born Killers is one of the craziest and best movies I've ever seen. So trippy xD Ooooh. . About the Infected bodies, that may have been it. . But it was quite recent, of this year for sure. I'll see if I can find reference.
-
There's also the fact that the Devs have made like 26 different bodies, I believe I heard in one of the earlier SRs, though this will still not make identifying 100% clear. xD

Hey guys! Just had a thought I'd like to share, but not sure at all if it would actually improve server performance so I'll need our more Tech-Savvy people to chime in :D If you guys have any other creative ideas to improve Server Performance, please let us know! The Idea! Alright, so simply my idea is to take all of the existing items that spawn over the CLE on the floors of designated buildings and placing them within World Containers inside the buildings, such as boxes, wardrobes, crates, tables, and etc.. By doing this, I believe it would remove the burden these items would place on the Server Load by removing these from actively being loaded across Chernarus, but rather would only activate when in the presence of a player who was TAB'd over it (Searching it). If I'm correct, it would take hundreds of items off the server load and increase server performance as well as getting players in the habit of actually searching homes instead of looking to see if anything is sitting in a room and then boogieing out. Ideas, criticisms, creative solutions? Whatcha think?
-
You both bring up pretty good points here, and I believe that looting method was in Epoch, but I would hope that for the new system that the new Arma series and the continuance of DayZ would be run on a much more powerful setup in Enforce. Like I said before, I'm not really sure how much this would improve performance and I do see the downside to this in resulting from taking away from realism in scattered goods, but there has got to be a better way of optimizing the server resources brought upon by the CLE. Dorn's idea is pretty decent actually. . But only if it could be implemented in such a way that you don't notice the game uploading the items onto the field in a mini-second stutter, or a visual discoloration, etc. The Netcode I know nothing about, actually. If that's a big reason for it also, I would love to know why it hasn't been the top priority
-
Thanks man! I'm essentially just thinking of any creative ideas to reduce server load and lag so that the core game itself runs as it shoud. The idea that hundreds of items are sitting in places all over Chernarus just taking up server resources just doesn't seem like the most efficient or effective use of limited resources. So any way to cut down on that use is a plus to be used elsewhere or just for the servers benefit. If certain goods could be left out in the open, like tires and guns, so be it! I just want DayZ to feel much smoother for everyone. Also, the addition of having to check over certain areas with TAB to find all the loot would make looting take a bit longer and thus more satisfying/realistic.
-
I don't mean removing them from the CLE, just in how they're loaded in from it. Like, the designated amounts would remain the same but only activate in the proximity of a searching player - Then unactivate once the player has left the search. And I totally get it from a realistic point of view to find things on the ground would be better, but if this change were to dramatically increase server performance (Thus the whole game), I'd opt for a better running game haha
-
This is probably one of the coolest videos I've ever seen :D I how the Devs have these things in mind when it comes to animations! Never even knew these things were possible. .
-
I'm pretty sure that 1.0 of DayZ will not feature the border of untextured expanse that we have now, but will likely create a wall that's high enough as to not exploit. As for having *more* land, I think there'll be a bit more as shown on the SR where a new Castle was and long metal bridge. . That bodes well for those that think we need to move the map west for Standalone. -- As for additional, I'm almost certain it will be featured in DLCs as either their own map, or Instanced areas that converge on the same server system. With this said, my dream list is just more islands to the South and Southwest, the inclusion of Utes, and just more ocean play. (Perhaps make Utes the best militarized zone to create a cross-migration of players)

[0.62] Early Preview Broadleaf + Grass Shader
Espa replied to Weyland Yutani (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
Something else to think about is that picture had Green leaves, which come in the more Spring/Summer time in DayZ, whereas the orangey red is their Fall/Winter weather :) -

Espa replied to Weyland Yutani (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
I think it's actually a pretty large change as to how far away forest foilage can be seen has been focusedly increased. Also the leaves and grass all seem to move indepedently of the base plant they're attached to. A definite improvement! I think this would have been more exciting had it been a wideshot of a forest from the outside or a large forest span. Lots more movement all around in the forest will probably be a trick to the eyes and cause a ton of paranoia.. especially if the foilage and leaves respond to different simulated gusts of wind. Also, the more I look at it, the better it looks. You kind of have to scan everything indepedently, but its hella impressive. (Now just waiting for snow. .) -

Looks like they already have the new HUD and Stamina system in place. . That would be an interesting addition to .62 O.o -
