I agree. There should be more consequence and considerations to shooting. I agree that's it's way too run-and-gun style right now, there's no weapon sway after sprinting. It feels way too fast-paced. I also hope they revamp the gun system. The gunplay is perfect right now for pvp call of dayz servers, so jsut let them have the current iteration and bring back realistic weapon dynamics to the hardcore and vanilla servers

Yeah you have to use at least *some* punctuation, dude. You lost me after about one and a half lines of run on text lol.

I think the zombies movements in this patch are really good, and their behavior heavily impacts pvp encounters, but I agree that they should kill downed players or at least do heavier base damage to go along with the shock. I feel a lot of people wouldn't agree with that though.

I'm looking forward to seeing vehicles being a bigger part of this game. I don't know how possible it is with such a huge game and so many factors, but it'd be so freakin' sick. I had a lot of fun today. Had a sort of "No Country for Old Men" moment at NWAF and came out of it with a few bullet holes and NVGs, so it was worth it. Lol. Still not sure about directional markers. I know this is one of things you guys want feedback on, so my feedback is mixed. The gunplay this patch seems sooo good. I WOULD like it much more if it was just one side of the screen being shaded when you're hit from that direction, a more general idea thing. Again, I've never been shot so I don't know if you can usually tell from where you're hit. The zombies have no chill this patch and I love it, though I would like larger numbers, but the zombies are seriously challenging and they seem to use teamwork, where one tries to loop around while the other attacks from the front. They've come so far since 2015 when I started. Food has seemed scarce and it felt like a genuine concern to find something to hunt, which also made for a good adventure.

Update 1.15 Xbox Experimental (Change Log)

Used a lock pick on a closed door and a zombie came through. I wish I got it on video, there was no server restart in between. I'll keep an eye out for it. -
Update 1.15 Xbox Experimental (Change Log)
Kohlbar replied to Kyiara's topic in Xbox Experimental Updates
Yeah I've experienced that too in this patch. Anybody having any luck finding Aug mags? I've been to several crashes and found 3 augs no mag yet. All mili bases too. Kinda disappointed it doesn't just share the same mag as the m4 like it used to -
Hmm, so there should be 55 total vehicles somewhere around the map. I don't know if this is the same for xbox official, they all seem to near impossible to find and I end up traveling almost the whole map with most of my characters lol. I guess my main concern with unconsciousness is the lack of interaction it leads to. I heard about stun guns being a possibility long ago but it seems they may have scrapped that. Rubber bullets from shotguns seem to work pretty well in close range actually, though I've also hit people and it noticeably stumbled them, without going uncon. I also don't understand why some ammo does more shock than others, with high power 5.56 and the like seeming to lead to almost instantly waking up. It seems stupid honestly, I justified unconsciousness as being dazed from shock and rendered momentarily incapacitated. I don't know if this is even a thing in real life but it makes for very good moments in DayZ. I will also say the new melee gets a thumbs up from me. Very skill based without being the janky ring around the rosie game it used to be lol. I've had quite a few very intense and satisfying melee battles that always feel very fun and gritty. I don't know if I've just got too good at survival in DayZ but I hardly die to anything other than other players anymore. I still think directional hitmarkers is a bad idea. It changes combat to where you can choose where to run at the first instance of getting shot instead of relying on your ears or smarts to choose where to run.

Why is stamina a thing when the reason the game had endless stamina before was because the vehicles were so broken? Now you can't even hit a patch of dirt without wondering if you'll be the next space pioneer, and that's only if you find the 1 available car on an official server. Seriously why are they so rare? Where are the bikes? Unconsciousness is now almost completely pointless. It used to feel like I got severely messed up and needed to nurse myself back to health after barely surviving a gunfight and crawling away after being presumed for dead by a guy who didn't bother to check the pulse. Now it's so meta that it's muscle memory to shoot someone in the head IMMEDIATELY after downing them and not even considering tying them up or having a hold up/interaction. I don't know what magic controlled the oncon system before, but it led to some truly special moments. Being shot with a new person I just met after finding a car and fixing it and trying to get out of town, I woke up after like 10-15 real time minutes. I was pacing my room, wondering why I was still alive, what happened, if my friend somehow survived, etc. Then I somehow woke up after all that time, the screen was black and white, and my friend was slumped over on the steering wheel. I got out, bandaged up and ran away. This was an experience! There are fewer unique weapons than there were in 2016. It feels like the game has truly devolved in this aspect. No bow, crossbow, red 9, longhorn, trumpet, P1, painted weapons. WHY? Base building has changed the way people play on official servers significantly. People who used to wander the map looking for adventure are now holing up in random barns and remote towns putting barbed wire walls on houses. I enjoyed bases better as little encampments of tents on random official servers. It's hard to say why I dislike this mechanic so much. Maybe if vehicles were a more readily available thing, it would tie the whole thing together a bit more. Hunting is too easy. It used to feel like something special to come across a deer, a gold mine to see a group of cows, but now you can hear them from 2 towns over and they won't shut up until someone kills them. In general, there is less that is random and exciting about the game. Most things that happen to your character have a predictable, consistent outcome. I guess this is how a game "should" play, but there was something special about the old, grittier DayZ with getting hit in the head with only a hat on and still somehow surviving with a badly damaged baseball cap, being down for sometimes 6 seconds and other times 10 minutes, people sprinting all over the place carefully dodging and whacking with woodcutting axes and pickaxes, loud bullet snaps that made you jump so hard your hand bounced off the mouse for a second and you had to scramble to regain control, getting held up, executed, making freshies box each other for their lives, feeling truly lucky to be alive with your pals in the deep north, somehow surviving all the random deaths only DayZ could give you. I know this is long-winded, but this game just feels less immersive now. The constant HUD and lack of ANY WORKING VEHICLES are starting to get to me. 'KoS' is barely complained about anymore it's so common, especially with the pathetically short uncon timer. I just feel like this game hasn't been the same since they made a console edition. DayZ was everything that was great about PC gaming in my opinion. Thanks for the memories. DayZ used to feel like a beaming light on a hill in an increasingly crappy, generic game market.

I agree that, on its own, stamina is a good, necessary thing in DayZ. My problem is the scarcity and brokenness of vehicles in DayZ official servers. Idk what servers you play where finding vehicles is no problem, but I have found exactly 1 working vehicle in maybe hundreds of hours on 1.14 alone. I've found about 5-6 busted vehicles, always in the most obscure corners of the deep north, with ruined engines and 3-4 ruined tires. I admit I have no clue how persistence works in regard to vehicles, but it seems to me that there are DEFINITELY not 55 vehicles and the ones that are broken seem to stay in the same place. I know you can repair a ruined engine with a pipe wrench, but at least reset it after a while so someone else can take a swing at it. Entirely too short. I got downed the other week and instead of literally blinking out for 3 seconds like 1.14, I was down for a whole 5! Wowee! So intense! It's a joke! I'm honestly thinking they're afraid of letting characters hold up other characters anymore. Also I think 'check pulse' is a very necessary mechanic for both pc and console and the red +survivor dot only dumbs down combat interactions. Also I will recognize that I was mostly negative with this post (frustrated) and will admit there are plenty of things I genuinely like about the newer patches: new diseases, risks, traps, broken legs being back, the game looks really great besides the dynamic lighting. Weapon sway is a thing that needs to come back too I think. The reticle for regular servers in 3rd person is a joke and aiming in general is way too easy now.

Update 1.15 Xbox Experimental (Change Log)
Kohlbar replied to Kyiara's topic in Xbox Experimental Updates
Probably not going to happen. From what I understand the new engine is literally unable to render light correctly when zoomed so they would have to change the engine to fix the lighting issue. Same thing for the stunning skies it used to have. Hell I'd be down for that though. DayZ with hitmarkers and all this stuff to simplify the experience has completely changed the game anyway so why not tear it all back down and start new again? I miss ragdoll physics, beautiful fire lit houses, crazy combat randomness, too much to list honestly. It's all much more structured, easy, and boring now. -
Update 1.15 Xbox Experimental (Change Log)
Kohlbar replied to Kyiara's topic in Xbox Experimental Updates
Yeah, I know what you mean. I'm lucky enough to have never been shot so I don't know if you can tell where you get shot from IRL, it's purely a guess on my part. Directional markers for melee would make sense, though unfortunately I feel that's the situation where it matters the least. It's not usual that you get hit by melee attack and think "where did that come from?" lol. -
Update 1.15 Xbox Experimental (Change Log)
Kohlbar replied to Kyiara's topic in Xbox Experimental Updates
I'll mirror what I've heard many people say about the directional hits. I think it would be better if the directional markers were more generalized, like the shock or damage vignette favoring the side of the screen you got hit from. I used to think this was an arcade-y update, but I'm pretty sure you would be able to tell which side you got hit from IRL too so it works. I just think (and have heard many say) the blood splat image looks a bit cartoony. I've been playing a lot on experimental xbox one x and the game is running beautifully. I somehow managed to step over an unnoticed grenade tripwire and not set it off going into the house. When I was walking out, I stumbled and sprinted to safety before it blew up. Later on, I was helicopter hunting way out west and it was beautiful. Deep in the crevices and peaks of the hills northwest of Myshkino, then down around Zeleno and saw a crash way out in a field. It was about 400m out and I noticed one of the zombies aggro, and sure enough there was a survivor looking to loot. I took a few pot shots from 400m out with my suppressed pioneer, but never managed to hit him. He actually pulled a pretty decent flank and ended up behind me in the woods, but as I was running back I happened to see him waiting in a tree before he saw me and I got the kill. He had some raw chicken in his inventory so I cooked it in his honor over a campfire overlooking Bor while the rain came down. It was a very atmospheric, low key and quiet play session. This game has come a long way and I'm still enjoying it. -
I want this to be seen and don't want to post in the xbox section because it's dusty af over there. I was thinking a good way to improve players talking to each other and communicating in-game on Xbox would be to make the down button on the d-pad a toggle talk instead of a push-to-talk button. There could be a setting in the menu to make it a toggle or hold. It would just make it much easier for controller users to keep talking while running or fighting and encourage people to team up in VOIP instead of isolating themselves from interaction through parties, which is what restricts most random player interaction on Xbox.

Update 1.15 Xbox Experimental (Change Log)
Kohlbar replied to Kyiara's topic in Xbox Experimental Updates
From what I've played, the combat is very good. Zombies seem to be super alert now and I like it. However, I think the directional hit markers are silly at best and terribly arcade at worst. I also am disappointed to see the M4 getting higher rate of fire and what looks like significantly easier recoil. Adding new assault weapons is great and all, but I'm really missing the red 9 and more of those special zany guns listed a few posts above. PvP-based changes always make me nervous because what makes this game special, not like any other game, to me, is the survival aspect of it. Many of my friends get much more immersed and invested in their characters when there's a legit struggle to survive. If we wanted a high speed hardcore shooter we've got plenty of options. DayZ's something else. -
I've thought it over and I'm starting to think an elite controller or similar is the only way to go with many modern games. This would allow you to VOIP all you want while still running around doing stuff, even during combat. More buttons seems a necessity with many new games coming out anyway, so this seems like a non-issue now. P.S. the only big issue in the way of VOIP on console is party chats, but I doubt there's much anybody can do about that besides taking the few seconds to switch to game chat, unfortunately.

D-pad is a weird thing to douple-tap. It would probably work, but the d-pad is just a wonky and off-feeling thing to douple-tap, as it's not very tappy. I thought you guys were seriously about to tell me they should just make double-tap CTRL as the toggle button like it is on the PC and I was about to flip my beans. The amount of people who simply don't understand what a fudging controller and console is on this forum is absolutely mind boggling (I've run into exactly 2) but that's 200% too many people. I digress. IT JUST NEEDS TO BE BETTER. oh and I just realized I put this in modding lol. Toodle-loooooooooooOOOOOooooo

Just a little aside, perhaps BI could make "hardcore" version for official branch where food is much more scarce and loot is turned way down or something. Maybe just lump those settings into the 1pp only servers because 1pp players seem to be the hardcore style anyway. Nights on 1pp are darker than 3pp already, just go all out! lol Edit: I think the food mechanic in general would have to be tweaked, too, because you can basically live forever once you're at full white. Also I wish cars worked and there were bicycles in the game. Ah, a perfect world. One can dream.

The bitching about survival being too hard in DayZ has plagued it since its launch. That was the cause for many of the 1 star reviews on steam and even today many of my friends don't like DayZ because the signs are in Russian and they can't read them or they die if they make a mistake. There is far too much food now, zombies give out canned beans like pinatas now, being cold and rained on is simply no big deal now (even though it rains too often imo) It always makes me long for those few, beautiful broken experimental patches where there was virtually 0 food to be found and it had to be scavenged from the scarce natural resources of the time. I don't blame BI for anything about DayZ anymore, because for everyone that says the survival is too forgiving, there's 5 that say it's too hard. For every person who wants new features, there's just as many who want bugs fixed. This game is massive, beautiful, and extremely detailed. I, for one measly little opinion, would like survival to be much harder, food much more scarce, and player interaction more encouraged. At first I thought 1.10 was a massive step in the right direction, but I'm realizing that BI is stuck between hardcore players and players who want to be babysat until they have a nice gun. There will never be a day that DayZ makes everyone happy.

Hi, I play DayZ on Xbox One and I've noticed that in Xbox version, there is a sprinting melee attack that is done by pressing the melee button while sprinting. On the PC version, there seems to be a regular power attack that one can do if they want to knock someone out first hit with a sledgehammer or shovel. Is this just the regular attack, is it a power attack only available on PC, or is there a control for it that I'm not aware of on Xbox?
-
Lol, thanks for understanding, I thought I was taking crazy pills for a minute. Hold Y to reload, Double tap Y unload, single tap Y for chamber.
-
Like... I literally figured it out it's holding LT + holding Y to do a power attack. Like I literally said specifically an xbox control and 2 people respond with keyboard commands. I'm not angry.. honest... I just hope someone else who has this question will one day happen upon this tiny little thread and get some help out of it. HOLD LT + HOLD Y
-
I just read on reddit apparently it's uhh holding Y while aiming with a melee weapon. so if anyone else has this problem rofl there you have it. I'll try it when I'm on next.
-
I guess I should've clarified on controller on xbox... thanks anyway duderinos
