All I'm saying is that even they used them for the wrong reasons, they were still some damn fine weapons. The Mauser wasn't the best for sniping though, I know that the Mosin Nagant's PU-scope had some advantages over the scope which goes on the Mauser. And yes, those two are also some good weapons, specially the StG 44. It's the predecessor of the AK-family you all love so much in DayZ. Although people call it a MP-44 sometimes, that name is theoratically wrong. MP stands for Machine Pistole as in SMG like the MP40 was. The Sturmgewehr 44 is an assualt rifle so therefore MP-44 is incorrect. Sturmgewehr literally means assault rifle.
-
That's strange indeed, as far as I know the people in The Netherlands itself are against guns. In my honest opinion, I think guns should be allowed for recreational use. You can shoot a gun at a shooting range over here but shooting a Mauser Kar 98k will be pretty hard here. It's a shame because I absolutely love weapons of WW2. That's a nice gun but still doesn't beat the Mauser Kar 98k for me. You can say what ever you want about the Germans in the war but they produced some damn fine weapons.
-
My guess is that you're from the United States? I think it's real hard to shoot or own such a beatiful gun here in Europe, it's a real shame. I want to shoot the thing once in my life though, I just have to.
-
Oh my god, yes! They defintely need to add the Mauser Karbiner 98 kurz. In my opinion it's the most beautiful rifle I have ever seen, a typical German masterpiece!

That's what I call horror. Never experienced that you were just minding your own and suddenly you hear a crack from a bullet. Your heartbeat rises, your adrenaline rises, blood starts pumping, your temperature goes up a bit, that is horror in my opinion. ;) And yes, kill on sight is part of the game. The intention of the developers is to design the game in such a way that everyone can play how they like. Some playstyles will suit others, some won't. That makes DayZ such an awesome game!

Picture this, you are alone in a server at Gorka at night and just started playing DayZ and are still learning the game. You are going to meet up with someone there and he logs in and another person logs in as well. Suddenly you see a person running and ask "is that you?" and get the response "I'm almost at Gorka" and ask "So that isn't you IN Gorka?". Yeah, what are the chances, right? Then the server restarts, you log-in again and go prone immediately. Yeah... where is he? Meanwhile the person you were meeting is near you and suddenly you hear shots "He got me". He didn't know I was there so it was just waiting for him to loot the body and bam he was dead. So yeah, enough horror in the game. Each time you meet a player in a small town or in the fields is an horror.
-
The answer is yes. The developers will release the server files so everyone can host a DayZ server. With these server files come different control options so controlling loot will be a thing. I guess the samething will apply to weather and various other aspects. There will also be a scripting language/way to mod the game for modders provided by the developers themselfs. Expect a lot of serious mods but also fun mods. With this modding also comes a singleplayer mode where you can test mods or just play on your own. Welcome back by the way and glad you noticed the improvements. Have fun & stay safe. :)

In my honest opinion, yes. I never really liked survival games/post-apocalyptic games until I played DayZ. Since March/April I have played the game 700 hours which is a lot to be honest. Even though it's an alpha the game is worth every penny of it and it isn't even finished. Now I can talk about the adrenaline rush you get when you see a player or get in a gunfight with a player but that is pointless. That is something you need to experience first hand and believe me, it makes you hunger for more. At the moment it isn't really a survival game yet but when the game is released it will be. Even if it is not the case, some modder will make the game a survival simulator. As you already said, you know that it is an alpha game. Sometimes that brings frustration, expect to die for no reason, experience weird bugs, sudden game crashes or other weird stuff. Another thing what bugs me is the "Call of Duty"-audience which only play to gear-up and go bezerk in a coastal town. Of course it is one of the many playstyles but the big majority plays like this and it's not the sole purpose of the game. Now I have to be honest, after 700 hours it gets a bit stale but the developers are trying and working hard to make the game better and better each time. I honestly think that even after I played 700 hours already there will be at least another 1.000 after the release. TLDR: Buy DayZ, it's worth your money even for an alpha game.

Back in the Experimental branch forum I post the following in Exp Update: 0.59: First of all you or any other player need to be more than 100 meters away from your trap. Second it has a 120 seconds + 1 to 300 random seconds wait time so 7 minutes in total. Third it decreases with 0.35 everytime you use it so maximum of 3 uses before it is ruined. Fourth the percentage of succes is NOT random, it depends on the surface. Boulders = 10 %, mud = 15 %, forest = 50 %, grass = 35 %, grit = 10 % and (next to a) stone road or something = 25 %.

Nice video. Interesting that you can load ruined ammo now. Learned a new thing today, thanks. -
I never stated that DayZ needs music. We were talking about "the atmosphere", which means any atmosphere for me. In my opinion DayZ doesn't need music because it breaks that special immersion that no other game has. By the way no sound can also bring atmosphere. I remember in 0.55 that I didn't go to the Pavlovo or Kamensk military base because there we silent military zombies in a dark and grey area.
-
It's an example, it shows how much music can help a scene. And I'm not talking about a movie scene, it could be any scene.
-
So please tell me if this scene would've been as epic without the music (from 20 minutes and 45 seconds):
-
I don't agree with that. Music or ambient sounds/music can make the atmosphere or it can break the atmosphere. When adding music you need to pick the right kind of music, the good volume and the right setting for it. If the conditions are met then your music will make the atmosphere.

The "zombies" in DayZ Standalone aren't f*cking zombies. How many times do we need to say it? Zombies crawl out the ground, infected people don't!
-
That gives a fair chance yeah. No, most certainly not. This would be game breaking for me if they add this to the vanilla game. Let modders do these things. There is no thing which can turn humans in these super creatures. They shouldn't be even in the games or movies unless they didn't come from an human.
-
I agree but we need to also think about the fun factor. Being unable to loot anything in the game because all the infected can follow me everywhere I go just takes out the fun. You should be able to lock them out somehow or lock them up somehow so that you can loot around a bit. Unless they make improvised weapons more important I would say that you can keep zombies out of the houses by closing doors. Which is hard if you're getting chased, trust me, it takes training.
-
I don't know where you exactly live but trust me, the doors here in The Netherlands can not be broken with your fists without breaking your hands. And yes, everyone calls them zombies, even the developers but they aren't actually. I used the word infected for a long time now but since 0.59 I switched back again. It's weird calling them infected while everyone just says zombies. :P

Another nice and helpful guide from you Tatanko, well done! And yes, provide as much information as you can but make sure it's relevant. When I submit a ticket I make sure I'm as detailed as possible and give all information possible. Also make sure that when you reproduce that you keep that simple and clear. What I try to accomplish is basically that they look at my ticket and don't have to search and do a lot of things before they figured out where the bug is. I want them to read my ticket, test it so they can start fixing it after that. OT: I recognize the first picture as if it was yesterday. There is no mistake, G.I. Joe (me) and Mr. Friendly Nazi (Dudester100).

First of all, what is the logic and realism behind zombies just keep spawning and spawning. It isn't even fun to be honest. I have been sitting in a building shooting and shooting zombies in the mod until I didn't had any ammo. There were more than 30 of them on the floor and they still kept coming. They kept coming and coming in a small town with 6 houses. Where is the logic in this? Second, spawning zombies where players are is not a good way. You look with your binoculars and see zombies "hey, there is a player down there". Third, what the hell, why would they even slow down when you are inside of an house? It doesn't even make any sense. It's like "oh there is an house here, I better should slow down". Fourth, killing them is a pain in the ass. Shooting them attracts more and more and they just will keep coming. Melee is hard because it takes a lot of pain to get your hatchet or what ever out. And the most annoying of all is that you can't melee with your fists. Without any weapon you're basically doomed and can only run away. As people already explained above, the things what everyone calls zombies are actually infected. They are infected with a disease which makes them like blood thirsty zombies. But, they don't have any supernatural powers, like normal people they can be killed on every part of their body and can even be crippled if you shoot them in the legs. In the mod I didn't want to go anywhere near loot because there would be zombies anyway. In the standalone I go to places but always watch my ass. This is an huge difference, the zombies in the mod don't actually add something, they only annoy you. Keep in mind that the infected in the standalone are far from finished. As developement progresses (specially in beta) they will change.
-
So you can see your dead body, thinking about how a bad player you are? If I get killed, I don't want to know who killed me. The only thing what would bother me is that someone was smarter than me. I like this idea though!
-
Weapons: Primary: Sporter 22 or Winchester M70 with hunting scope Secondary: CR75 with silencer Melee: Nothing equipped but rather an hatchet in inventory Gear: Gorka E Military helmet & Gasmask (they fit really well together!) Olive M65 Field Jacket or Hunting Jacket Olive Black Working Gloves Smersh Vest with Backpack Hunter Pants (Spring) Military Boots (Black) with Hunting Knife
-
I like the white one as well. :D
-
Then you might kill people like me on sight. Because if I see wild life, it has to die, no questions asked.
-
No, this would make it a RPG instead of a survival game. I want to spawn in and choose my own way, I don't want to be forced to pick something. Edit: Though, it is a very good idea for a roleplaying server. Would make a good mod for RPG servers. ;)
