Try messing around with your settings, increasing your settings can actually increase your performance because the GPU will do all the calculations and a lot of work instead of the CPU. This is a fact, as I noticed a big performance increase, big cities like Novo, Elektro, Cherno, etc. still give me low FPS. Of course it is much better than in 0.59 but it's not as smooth as people with an Intel CPU.

Early game? If you're a good shot the .308 is better than military grade weapons. It takes more bullets from a M4 for example to kill someone than .308 rounds. It's good that the powerful rounds are so rare right now.

Easiest way: go to the most western part of Kamenka, take out a compass and point your direction to exactly north, start running and don't change direction again. If everything went right you should be at Tisy at some point.

I couldn't agree more with you. The thing is, I've had so much fun in this early access alpha already and it can only get better as you already said. I have played almost 1.000 hours in 1 year and a bit and still with each patch I have fun. Perhaps one if the factors which makes me love this game is to see and help with the progress of the game and as you said, the developers love their game themselves and you can clearly see that. If loving this game what it already is and what it will become makes us a fanboy, so be it. But I never played a game which gives me so much adrenaline, so much fun and fulfillment than DayZ, with or without the bugs and issues.

Because I believe I'm not a perfect shot as well I have some tips for you: - Wait until you have your breath back and wait for the perfect moment - Make sure your first shot gets the job done or makes the job half done. If you kill him with the first shot, you get the kill. If you miss the first shot, you will be killed. - Don't spray and pray, I always keep clicking instead of holding the mouse button. It is much easier to control the sway and see where you land your shots, it also doesn't waste any ammo. - Try to flank around and take the high ground, it's much harder killing someone up on an hill. Also look for cover, he was in the grass, you were in the open. Don't take this as criticism, take it as friendly advise. :) Keep trying and better luck next time.

If it involves the phrase "for science" then count me in as well.

End goal of the game? "PvP fiesta" or "gritty survival game"?
IMT replied to WolverineZ's topic in General Discussion
You know what I like about DayZ, it's different. I tried H1Z1 for a few hours but I didn't like it. The game is either PvE or PvP which sucks. It takes away the whole idea of survival. Yes, I said survival. Not getting shot makes also a bit a survival game, right? There will always be PvP, if you like it or not and specially in the big towns, even with scarce loot. And believe me, I'm not one of the PvPers, I avoid those big cities unless I need to go through one of them to get somewhere but then I'll be quick and careful. Whenever I see a player I immediately hit the ground and 9 out of the 10 times I see them first. From there on I go over my options but it's a slim chance I kill a player who doesn't know my presence. Why? Because I know if things go south, I'll start again in the south. But that makes the game so great, sometimes I'm hostile, sometimes I'm not. Sometimes other players are hostile against me, sometimes not. Like yesterday, I was forced to kill someone. I was in my Steam overlay checking the map and someone ran in the house. He asked if I was friendly and that he was friendly. As there was a bit of silence and he was standing in the doorway I wanted to ask him to get out of the way so I just can pass through. As I wanted to do that he came at me and tried to punch me so my best bet was to get out of the house. I had a loaded Magnum in my backpack and a Winchester Model 70 with 2 bullets in my hands but had a Crossbow on my back so switching wasn't easy. He decided to run after me which was a bad decision, I turned and shot and he fell like a sack of sand. If he didn't try to pull a Mike Tyson on me he would still be alive but he made his choice and so did I. Interaction and PvP makes this a great game, specially if there is more of the PvE aspect. I don't want to be forced to choose either one, I want to play an hybrid game which has both and you need to go over your options every freaking time. Now I do agree that it is way too easy to get geared at the moment. If I'm looking for an Hunting Pants or what ever, before I found it I already came across several guns and ammo. I hope that 0.60 will be a glorious patch and that loot will become more scarce because now it's ridiculous. I am/was thinking about getting a server which doesn't have a gun or food on every corner. Where you will get the real DayZ feeling as it is intended where you need to make choices everytime like I'm doing already. I'm sure in the end there will be a community server where people like us can play our game. Where not every moment of interaction will end up in a gunfight but that every moment of interaction is different everytime. -
Did you loot a canteen, water bottle or what ever and drank it without emptying it or purifying it? There might've been alcohol or cholera if that's even possible. If you're already low on blood and it's cholera and nobody is going to help out your character, your best bet is suicide. My character died of cholera and I was already low on blood and health. It's actually the first time DayZ was hard to me and I liked it!

[aggro levels] How to annoy a zombie (just a little bit)
IMT replied to Luc Tonnerre's topic in General Discussion
There are already different aggro states. At the moment there is passive which means they just walk around. There is alerted which means they have noticed you or something but are not quite sure if something is there, who or what it is. And finally there is full aggro which makes them come after you. -
Perhaps I was a bit too hasty but the problem is that I took the garden lime and pelts out. I also took the barrel in the hands, don't know if that does something. I will try and wait longer later today. Hopefully it will get fixed automatically.

I already sacrificed multiple cows so according to the Buddhism I'm pure. Guess the hunter God does not like me.

So I finally found a barrel yesterday, thank god! Got it in a nasty way though. After checking all those sheds, roaming the woods in the east, Tatanko gave the tip to roam around towns, so I did. I searched around the woods near some coastal towns but no luck. When searching I saw a player. And you are never going to guess what this player had in his/her hands when I took a closer look, that's right a freaking barrel! As I restricted my characters to have certain things I only had a bow so I decided to stalk him, I was determined to get this barrel. While he had no idea someone was lurking in the shadows stalking him, he had some luck. Suddenly the server thought it was a good idea to restart, my first thoughts were there goes my barrel. But luck has it when I logged back in he was standing in the field a few meters away from me. I didn't hesitate one moment, dropped my tent and took my axe out. I ran to him and hit him with the axe in the back of the head. He went down in one blow as if I hit his nerve system. Now the barrel was mine, all those long hours payed off. Of course because I'm not a douchebag I apologized, no idea if he could hear me or if he was even at his computer. Took the barrel up north as fast as I could where DayZ screwed me again. I put one of my pelts and some garden lime in the barrel and clicked "Tan pelts". Now obviously you don't watch the time each minute while playing but at that time the server restarted again. Now I can't use my barrel anymore. It doesn't have the open lid option anymore. I think God is punishing me for killing an innocent person for his barrel. Any solution to this problem?

I will, don't know where the character is located though and it has no transport at all. I will be home in approximately 2 hours.

I switched back to the old UI because of point 1. But because my FPS got worse I switched back and also thought it's much more realistic now. In real life there is no indicator which says how full, thirsty, etc. you are. Your body only shows symptoms which can be compared to the status messages. It makes the game more interesting in my opinion, specially for my "survivor" character which lives on hunting, horticulture, water from ponds, etc.
-
I think I have a pair of black gloves on my public hive character but I'm not 100 % sure. Though, I'm not home at the moment so I can't confirm it for now.

I have an AMD FX-8320E, a MSI R9 380 Gaming 4 GB and 8 GB of RAM, for me it was an huge improvement compared to the old UI. And about the RAM, most games are developed for 32-bit which means the maximum allocated memory will be 2 GB. Even if you have 16 GB it will only use 2 GB. And you can use your RAM for harddisk space. I'm sort of back from a break as well. Last time I was really active was at the end of the summer, I think. I really look forward to playing on the Experimental branch again!

Where is luncher for install days on arma 3?
IMT replied to roby7979's topic in New Player Discussion
There are DayZ-like mod's for Arma 3 like Breaking Point and Desolation. But keep in mind, it isn't from the developers of the DayZ mod. -
It has a bit of a learning curve but once you're used to it, it isn't all bad. Specially for me because it's such huge performance difference.
-
No it is still a prototype but performance wise it's a improvement for some users, including me.
-
I'm trying but I went back from the new UI to the old UI and the difference with performance for me is huge. So only more reason to get "hyped" for the new renderer. :) Edit: double post, please delete this one!

I can't wait until it's done. It feels like I'm waiting for a special occasion like going on an holiday or your birthday.
-
Nice, that is good news. I guess I will snatch a barrel from someone for now. *evil grin* Yeah, that's always the case. When you need something, you can't find it but when you don't need it you will see the item everywhere. But that's pure psychological, to be honest.
-
So as far as I can understand, this means that when these approximately 120 barrels are in use, no new barrels spawn? Guess I need to start roaming the woods instead of loot spawn points. Thanks for the info! Perhaps maybe an idea to make a crafting station or something like that where you can process things without a barrel? I read this in a topic a bit similar to this one (my bad for not checking). Here is the topic.
-
As far as I can remember, the developers said that persistent items which are used in camps/owned by players do NOT count towards the Central Loot Economy. But yes, it is an active server and is mostly full. If this has changed and no new barrels will spawn they need to think about a solution for tanning and other uses of barrels other than storing items. The clue of the game is that you can play however you want, you make the game. By this restriction, you can not play the game however you want which would be a shame!
