Historical Data on Infected Population
IMT replied to Weyland Yutani (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
Even though there is a dynamic spawning system that doesn't imply that there is no maximum. The CLE is dynamic as well and loot has a maximum. -
I'd rather have the T-70. I think with the steep landscape of Chernarus your T-34 will have a lot problems getting around.

I really like the frequent updates and if it's stable (no pun intended) the push to the Stable branch. Part of the reason would probably be to test the build under an higher stress. If the build fails at Stable, push a fix to Experimental, let the Experimental community test it there and then push to Stable again to let the Stable community test it. Of course they are bugfixes and maybe some polishing but that's needed as well. Hope we can see this more and more, big updates every now and then with new things and after that small updates with bugfixes and polishing.

I guess reading can be quite hard. "For various reasons, we sometimes prevent certain items from spawning using our Central Economy settings.". "For various reasons", this means there is a good reason why certain items are not spawning at the moment. And please do tell the reason why they still let vehicle parts spawn. I'm pretty sure my guess makes a lot more sense than yours.

It is either smoke or lighting. When someone makes a torch or a fire everyone's FPS in the area drops horribly. For some reason the last few builds have been performance drops on all fronts which is a shame because at the start of .61 performance was at an all time high.

1) as far as I know most items are persistent for 30 minutes. This means if no player is near the said item on the ground it will despawn. I have no idea if a player which comes near a dropped or spawned item will reset or pause the "timer". 2) Garden plots are peristent for a long time but they might've changed this in a recent patch. For fireplaces I have no idea. They can or will spawn near almost every house. In the first build of 0.61 I went to an house north of Nadezdhino I believe which has 1 red house (single floor, double door house with stairs) and there were 2 infected over there. What I noticed is that some parts of a town or city have (almost) no infected and some parts have a lot. I also see a lot of infected off in fields or the woods next to the town or city which is a nice touch as well.

The weapon is still in the game and it's still as strong except it isn't really suitable anymore for long range engagements. :)

He's definitely at the north-western one because the south-western one has the gas station before the car wrecks. In his situation the gas station is after the car wrecks.

To be honest, I like the current patch but still the balance is indeed way off. If you do a Tisy run you end up with a M4A1 or AK 101 and 2 to 3 full coupled STANAG mags worth of ammo. It's a shame that you don't like this patch. The only thing which you mentioned which isn't there are vehicles. Crash sites are there, there is more than enough meat running around the map. I almost managed to fill up an enitre military tent with cow steaks. But I agree with everyone, if you don't like the current state of the game you should take a break from it which most of the people I play with did after a while when 0.60 dropped on Stable. Play some other games or do some other stuff and eventually that itch to play DayZ again will come back to you.

Lines in the sand and hollow victories, some thoughts on DayZ in game ethics....
IMT replied to therunningmanz's topic in General Discussion
TL;DR? No just kidding. Thank you for your input Paul and I completely agree with you. To be honest, I and even some hardcore DayZ players I know have used or still use the apple glitch. Lately I try to avoid the apple glitch and tend to do it in a more fair way by picking apples how it's supposed to be and only picking a few and not until I'm fully stuffed just to prepare myself already for the future. Also, I don't do it to get to a location to PvP fast, it's not really in my playstyle to go somewhere to just PvP there. I also know this glitch will be fixed eventually and that the game will be much harder. But I'm already prepared for that and know a lot of ways to survive but I guess that doesn't justify the usage of a glitch. I and also everyone I know use the well glitch if it can be called a glitch. There is also a glitch to fill up the cooking pot in one go when it's raining which I use but to be honest if it's raining your not raising your cooking pot, fill it a bit and put it down. All these things will be changed or fixed in the future, specially with the new animations where you can hold 'F' to continuously eat or do actions. I'm sure this will be the case with the well where you can keep drinking as long as needed just like in real life. I'm really looking forward to the new character controller and the new animations where you can keep moving and eat or fill your cooking pot on the go. Lastly, I don't think there is any right or wrong unless you use severe glitches like wall glitching or your example of getting your weapon back in your new life. Still, you shouldn't keep abusing these glitches your entire characters life. After I leave the coast I rarely have to pick apples because I'm usually energized because of all that delicious meat from wolves or cows and all the food which I scavenge while looting or killing infected. If the glitches were having a severe impact on gameplay the developers would've either fixed it or disabled it like the loot which isn't spawning anymore in the camo building. -
Alright, I guess your answer can count both towards his title or his first sentence. Damn it, you ruined the joke Bone! :(
-
That moment when you only read the titles.... Very well done Guy, you got us all!

What I try to do is avoid area's with wolf spawns unless I have a proper gun. Of course that doesn't guarantee you'll live. I died to a pack once with a SVD because somehow while trying to reload I lost either my SVD or the mag, then you're screwed! Seems you need to git gud. Spawned in yesterday as a freshie and not long after it started raining on and off. The character is still alive, light green energized, light green hydrated and healthy. Mind you, I didn't have a raincoat during all the rain. I eventually found a Firefighter jacket but by then the rain stopped.

They never aimed for a big crowd, it just turned out that way. It has been no secret that the vanilla mod and vanilla Standalone will be heavily influenced by survival. You can still do your pew pew but it might have consequences like being attacked by a lot of infected, etc. So if the majority doesn't like that it's their problem then because from the start it has been mentioned that it will be a survival game, not a PvP-only shooter.

Will we be able to tame wolves, falcons or other animals?
IMT replied to Salty seadog's topic in General Discussion
How ironic. You're making fun of him because you think he is wrong based on your knowledge. Wolves are generally scared or non-violent towards humans, their genetic instincts don't see us as a prey, at least not anymore. They will either stay away or attack in some circumstances. A very long time a go they probably were violent and saw us as prey. Then evolution kicked in on both sides. Humans got better and better at fending them off or hunting them and wolves learnt that we were dangerous. Wolves in particular are very interesting animals. The way they behave, think, act, are built around "respect", etc. Maybe do some research on that topic, it's very interesting, I assure you. Also maybe research a bit on genetic modification and evolution while you're at it. -
It's not only the stick, even punching will get someone's gear ruined eventually. I believe I punched Thurman Murman's hat from pristine or worn to badly damaged with one punch. I wish you good luck with your mission, never bring a stick to a gunfight haha. And I do think they appreciate feedback, even on the forums. :)

Stable or Experimental?

Tanning Leather Overhaul- (bc barrels are very limited on private hives)
IMT replied to boggle's topic in Suggestions
I had the exact same problem as you approximately 1 year ago. I couldn't find a barrel on a private hive server because almost all of the barrels were taken. So I made a topic about that: I also did a suggestion like you did, mine was to make a crafting station of some sort and got this response from Brian Hicks: The building itself is already actually in-game but unfortunately it doesn't work yet. At least, I think they are going to use that building. You can visit the building and it spawns loot as well but there is no other interaction yet. Have you tested this recently? I don't think that works at this moment but I could be wrong, maybe they re-added this again. Because of OP's problem. -
Oh you mean the gas itself? I thought you meant persistence. That's also a thing I don't know. In the game files it says that the large canister has 450 butane, 220 for medium and 160 for small. The consumption would be 0.05 for the lamp and 0.1 for a cooking. How ever, that does not match up at all. Either you need to divide the butane by 10 or multiply the consumption by 10, that gives me I think accurate results. That would mean for the lamp: Large canister: 900 seconds = 15 minutes Medium canister: 440 seconds = 7 minutes and 20 seconds Small canister: 320 seconds = 5 minutes and 20 seconds Cooking: Large canister: 450 seconds = 7 minutes and 30 seconds = approximately 6 cooking pots Medium canister: 220 seconds = 3 minutes and 40 seconds = approximately 3 cooking pots Small canister: 160 seconds = 2 minutes and 40 seconds = approximately 2 cooking pots. @emuthreat do these numbers match with your experience for the cooking part?

Hmm, I have no idea. Could be 30 minutes like most of the items or could be longer. I do know that if you stay close to an item it won't despawn.

The windows of the shower barracks are not bulletproof, shot some wolves and a few zeds yesterday through them, together with Emu. They do reduce damage though. I shot a zombie with my silenced 9mm and normally they go down in 1 hit but this one staggered only.

I suggest you just keep playing, even if it means you will die a lot. DayZ has a learning curve which is at the moment bigger than ever and will probably get bigger as development progresses. The learning curve is the most fun to be honest. Learning the map, learning to survive, etc. As soon as you know all these things the game is still fun but can get stale sometimes. The best way to learn how to survive is to play with someone who will show you the ropes which I wouldn't mind doing. There is also the wiki, maps and of course the forums and/or Reddit. But the most fun of all is learning it yourself which might involve dying a lot. Each mistake will teach you to avoid to make that mistake in the future. But keep in mind, the most fun way is to figure it out on your own. If you need tips, help or like to play with me or someone who knows how to survive just let us know.

I'm usually not the person to say that an item is not spawning because sometimes you need to git gud and search harder but I'm starting to think metal wire isn't spawning. At least in the 0.61.137116 Experimental build. I have searched way more than 100 locations where it spawned before including sheds, garages, garage boxes, barns, etc. To sum it up: I searched all the locations in Pavlovo, all locations in the east side of Zelenegorsk, all locations in Novy Sobor, a few locations in Stary Sobor, a few locations in Novaya Petrovka, all locations in Grishino, all locations in Kabanino and all locations in Pusthoshka. Yet I have not found a single metal wire in my search.

I think he's referring to the oval officer building also known as the quonset hut for us. And really, another SVD? Nice, now I shouldn't feel bad when I die because we have a second one. :P

At the review itself it says "reviewed during early access" or something like that so people can actually see that it was placed during EA and not when the game was finished. Clearly you have not been following the latest development at all. The developers are communicating with the community more and more lately. They also increased the amount of updates. On Experimental there is almost a new patch EVERY day. True, major patches can take a while but that's to be expected with the current position of development.
