I think you're wrong there. If I spent more than 10 hours to get a decent automatic you're gonna think twice before you take someone on or just rush towards a player which is barricated. Of course it delays the inevitable but if I die now with a gun like an AK or something, I do not fucking care. Why? Because there are plenty of them, it's not rare. However, if I die with the FAL with a mag it would suck for me because it's a very powerful but rare gun. If I can find it in 60 minutes I wouldn't give a fuck either but that's not the case. And you mention the term end game. What is the end game? It's a sandbox game, the end game is for every person different. Also my end game is never the same and can change while playing. Personally I can consider having a SKS (with PU) and 1 or 2 stacks of ammo and a splitting axe/firefighter axe already to be end game. The SKS is for killing players or wolves and the axe for infected. Currently characters don't hold any value because most people just want to PvP and can do this very fast. Within 1 to 2 hours of spawning you can already be running with an high powered fully automatic rifle so why would I care dying if I can get those weapons really easy? If you cut down on the loot it will mean that people won't shoot as fast because there is not much ammo to burn through and people know that finding it is hard. As I already mentioned, the things like facial hair won't matter if people don't see any value in their character. I won't care for it either because why would I? Why would I care for a system which take time while I know that 8 out of the 10 people I see will try and take my life. Why would I want to invest time in that if everyone is a murdereous asshole?

Characters have no value because there is simply too much loot. Think about it, after the world has gone to shit, everyone runs to the big military bases and raid them, people grab food where they can, etc. In reality there won't be much shit left after a place has been looted. Loot needs to be more scarce, I want to see a lot of players run around with a bow and arrow or just with melee instead of a gun 1 minute after they spawned in. I have been in so many situations where I need to choose which weapon I want because there are so many of them. This should never be the case! If you find an AK47 you need to be glad that you found that fucker. It shouldn't be like "oh look, an AK47, don't need it, got a M4 in my hands, AKM on my back and an AKS in my backpack". If you make loot scarce and weapons and ammo rare you will find out that your character gets value by itself. I know this from my own experience. Currently the FN FAL and the magazine is rare, so when you got one you got a powerful but very rare gun. I have let @Thurman Merman die in a firefight so that I didn't die, lose my FAL and lose as well as Thurman's loot as my loot instead of gaining the other guy's loot and retrieving Thurman's loot. When I die I'm not sad that I lost my gear (except for maybe the FAL) but rather the fact that I failed. The fact that someone was smarter, better and more skilled than me. The fact when you respawn and reflect back on what you did wrong and could have done better. In my opinion, that's main thing which creates the lack of character value, the scarcity and rarity of loot. I don't mind that I need to search a few hours in order to get a decent automatic, as long as that is the case with everyone. Loot should be barren from the moment the server starts until it goes down. A restart shouldn't spawn in (more) loot, neither should a persistence wipe. If everyone can find guns around every corner and is shooting at each other as if they are playing airsoft or playing paintball then the addition of the character age or soft skills will not change character value. Maybe to some people like me but the majority will not give a single fuck about that. Because the main value of your character is the gear and finding it is very easy.

The netcode has always been a priority for them as far as I know but it is a complicated subject. I'm pretty sure they want a good tuned game in the end as well which plays stable, low or high pop. It will make a difference for sure but I agree that the CLE isn't the one which causes performance issues. It's indeed the player iself, vehicles and AI which are the most resource intensive.

You mean "it's bean done"?

I agree on the 1/6 face possibilities here. I think and hope that in the future we will be able to tweak our character more to our liking. That way you get a wide varity of characters which makes it easier to identify a friend or a foe of course. Although, if someone wears an helmet, glasses and facemask it's hard to recognize their face of course. I hope they can come up with some other form to identify each other without taking away that you can identify someone immediately if you see them. Maybe a custom badge or what ever would be awesome. We have the armbands now but a lot of people wear those and on a high populated server there will be multiple groups with the same armband. Perhaps in the future we can mix certain materials to get a totally different color. But I'm sure your idea will be modded at some point. Maybe I will be the one to make this mod even though I won't use it myself.
-
I agree with Gobbokirk here, it takes away the tension. I have been in multiple situations with Emuthreat where we were milliseconds away from shooting each other. Even worse, Emu and I traded with each other once because of miscommunication. These are the things which make this game so great!

Taming leather is in DayZ 0.61 Stable not possible, even with a barrel. However, tanning leather is possible in DayZ 0.61 Stable, only with a barrel unfortunately. Sorry, I had to make the joke.

For those who want to get a better view of Espa's idea: in all/certain Arma 3 DayZ(-like) mods loot is contained in containers like a cardboard box, suitcases, bags, etc. You need to select the gear option on a specific container to see the loot inside. Personally I'm against this idea because it will take away a massive chunk of the immersion. Not only that, looting would be very easy and tedious. Above all that, it will actually only help a little bit with performance. The reason for this is because they load in every container item as soon as you're in the render distance. I really wonder why they chose for this particular method because you can clearly see this when you run up to a big camp, you will get an huge desync bubble. This is all the items loading in. Not only is it weird that they would let the items in tents load in at around 200 m but it's also highly immersion breaking because you immediately know that you're in the vicinity of someone's camp. Still, if it would be an huge increase in performance, I don't want to lose that immersion. I rather have them tweak, try and reiterate on the netcode than to lose such a big chunk of immersion, which is a big thing in DayZ.

I would either use the DayZ TV map (http://www.dayztv.com/map/) or the iZurvive map (https://www.izurvive.com/). Personally I would use the DayZ TV map because you can see if it's up-to-date or not (it says "Updated on <date> - <patch>"). It's also the map I use how ever, sometimes I use the iZurvive map if we need to share something between the group.

That doesn't really surprise me. If you play with low FPS it affects your connection to the server as well, thus the infected hit you while sprinting. I sincerely hope that the FPS in the video doesn't reflect the FPS in-game but I think it does because Plays.TV doesn't have that much options to tweak.

Very impressive and awesome, kudos to you sir for making such an original video. Of course now comes the real question: how many times did you actually fall to your death while making this video?

What do you think about other crafting options? What ideas do you have?
IMT replied to Irish.'s topic in General Discussion
In the future there will be "crafted containers". I believe it has something to do with the crafting stations which you will find across Chernarus. So probably you'll be able to craft your tanned leather there. It might also mean that there will be static barrels which can't be picked up and only be used to tan leather or something. -
A lot of these things are already in the game files but are probably partially finished, waiting for another system or has a different reason why it's not in yet. I saw the model and it looks like it can be locked. It will probably have 48 slots but that might change of course.

They are respawning if you destroy them completely but it takes too much effort at the moment to destroy one. I do hope they change this soon or at least in the future. When there was no vehicle persistence in Experimental you could be reckless with them because they would respawn at the restart. Now you need to be careful driving them but still, sometimes you can not avoid it because of a crash, frame drop, stutters, hangs, etc. I'm pretty sure they are getting some good feedback and data from us, that you can not find a vehicle is probably because people already took them. This means that they get tested anyway. The only problem would be that destroying them is a pain and most people don't know how to make them respawn so they will get tested less and less the further the patch progresses.
-
In order to despawn and let the vehicle respawn at the next restart do the following: strip the vehicle totally (doors, wheels, battery, etc.), also make sure that the inventory is empty. Then start shooting or hitting the engine block until you see a fireball or you can't enter the vehicle anymore. From our tests we noticed that the chainsaw works very good, if you have better suggestions please let us know. I wouldn't suggest shooting the engine block because it takes a ridiculous amount of bullets, a drum mag of 7.62x39 sometimes doesn't even do the trick. Also make sure that the vehicle stays empty and stripped, specially before the restart. Otherwise it will probably not despawn and you will have to wait until the next restart. If all goes well the vehicle despawns and a new one will respawn.

Very nice guide Tatanko and very helpful for new or inexperienced players. Even though I knew most of this information I learned a few things like the heart attack when unconscious. I picked up a gasoline canister yesterday and when scrolling through the action menu I accidentally drank the whole 4 liters instead of emptying the vessel. I think it was Sanguine who advised me to eat charcoal tablets which cured it. Of course I was curious so I digged through the game files and saw that drinking gasoline will give medium food poisoning. I believe it does because when I had a full ghillie suit and I cooked some meat I put the cooking pot in my SMERSH vest with backpack. After sprinting I suddenly got the "My face is smelting" message and was losing health and blood. When removing the cooking pot from my inventory it stopped. I believe it was Thurman Merman who tested it without the ghillie suit and didn't get that message. So I would say yes, hot items do raise temperature of your character. I drink a lot from ponds but only when healthy and I haven't caught cholera yet so either there is a very small chance to catch it when healthy or your completely resistant to it at that point. I might dig into the game files again to see if it mentions anything about it. Also I believe after my last research on cholera and starvingart's personal experience that the disease can be transferred through tainted sources (water bottles, canteens, cooking pot, etc.). Maybe that's something worth mentioning. I also discovered that when you catch cholera your immune to the disease for a period of time. In my opinion, cholera is the worst disease out there at the moment. Once you fought it you'll be careful next time you want to drink from a pond. It requires sitting still (to consume less water) for a long period of time and managing your vitals constantly in order to stay alive. I came to the point where I fell unconscious but I decided to wait and was lucky that I went to the next stage where I lost less blood so my blood went above 500 again and I regained consciousness. Having the full natural blood regeneration when having cholera is critical in order to survive and unfortunately there is no cure (yet) so it's a real pain to have this disease.

Shower thought: What will happen to helicopters upon a server restart?
IMT replied to yazar8's topic in General Discussion
I'm not sure about it but I believe that if the server crashes or restarts while moving in a vehicle the player and the vehicle will both be back at the original position where you got in the vehicle/started moving. To give a better example: you start driving from Novy Sobor to Kabanino skipping Stary Sobor and the server restarts/crashes before your destination, upon login your character and the vehicle will be back at Novy Sobor. Say that you do the same thing but decided to stop and loot for example the tents at Stary and you get in your vehicle and move towards Kabanino and the server crashes or restarts you will be back at the Stary tents. Edit: I'm not sure how this works if you are in debug, your vehicle and/or character might despawn, I haven't tried that yet and I don't want to try that either. Also keep in mind, there are certain parts in debug where your vehicle might fall through the ground which will probably end up with you walking the rest of your journey. -
I think that loot is very unbalanced at the moment. Since the introduction of the new tents at Tisy, military loot is unbalanced in my opinion. In 0.60 a regular loot run for me would be Stary tents, Veresnik military base and finally NWAF. If you do that run now it will not give that much loot, you will end up with perhaps an assault rifle and a magazine and probably some cloting and some other ammo and/or mags. I don't mind if there is not that much loot but if you go to Tisy you end up with much and much more. My last run at Tisy I found 2 M4A1, 1 AK101 and a SVD, not to mention the multiple coupled STANAG mags, AK101 mags, SVD mags, clothing, etc. If you compare Tisy to Stary tents, Veresnik and NWAF then Stary, Veresnik and NWAF has more tents, barracks, etc. so there are more military spawn points than Tisy but yet you'll find much more loot at Tisy. I wonder if the difference is because of the imbalance between NATO and eastern because you'll find much more NATO weapons and ammo at Tisy compared to the eastern weapons and ammo at all other locations. Also for some reason Balota (town) spawns a shit ton of guns like repeaters, handguns (with attachments) and a shit ton of shotguns. I think this might even cause less guns to spawn in all other locations. What I also noticed is that a lot of loot (re)spawns at a server restart which isn't the intention I think.

When did you last try this? It may be because since the new renderer (0.60) this is disabled, might not be compatible or not implemented.

I see your problem here and I think the best solution is to rent a (private hive) server located in Brazil. The reason why I say Brazil is because that's the only option to choose from when ordering a server for south America. I guess because there is not enough demand for a server in for example Argentina, or there is no major network connection point in that country/area. I don't know how big the DayZ community is for south America but if the south American servers even don't fill up then it's either not that big or they tend to play on other servers (with high ping). Another option might be to contact an hosting provider to see if there is an option to hire a server in another country than Brazil. Also, I don't know how much power Bohemia has regarding the hosting of servers. By the way, your chart shows a summary of all games per country and not for DayZ specific so that chart is kind of irrelevant.

I think this is rather a "you" problem. DayZ Underground is currently (one of) the biggest server(s), you don't get that status if the admins are douchebags. Their population will drop quickly if the admins "abuse" their power. If it's one or a few admins in particular you should report them to the owner or the person who is responsible. But because you said you got banned in Deadlyslob's stream, I'm starting to doubt if it's the admins fault. I personally don't know Deadlyslob but I watch all of his video's since 0.61 and every now and then tune into his stream. I don't think that Deadlyslob would ban you without a reason or approve that one of his moderators ban someone without a reason, that's not how Deadly is. If that would be the case then his viewers and subscribers will drop exactly like the case with the population of DayZ Underground. Since Deadly relies on his stream in order to get around each month, he won't put his reputation at risk in such a way. Maybe look in the mirror and wonder if they are actually the problem. Not saying that they might not abuse their powers but from my perspective I have the feeling it is rather you than them.

Really good Status report! I can't wait to see for all those pieces of the puzzle to fall together. Keep up the good work!

I haven't streamed yet so I have no experience with that. I do know that having a fast enough connection and an high enough bitrate in your settings is important. I think this would be your best shot for getting the best possible settings: https://help.twitch.tv/customer/portal/articles/1262922-open-broadcaster-software

I guess opinions differ. Personally, I choose OBS over all the others like Shadowplay and Plays.TV because it has all the exact functionality that I want or need. If you just want recordings so nothing fancy, I would go for something like Shadowplay. But if you want seperate audio tracks and more helpful things I would go with OBS. It also is a bit complexer than the standard recording software so you need to probably follow a few tutorials for it.

A Few Thoughts on.. Bugfixing, Priorities, and Beta
IMT replied to Hicks_206 (DayZ)'s topic in News & Announcements
Thank you for putting things into perspective for us. Keep it up the good work and eventually we'll hit 1.0, together.
