BETA Status Report - November 28

Take a look at this: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Software_development_process I know it's for software development but most things apply to both. There might be some additional things with game development though. Other than this I wouldn't know if there is information about the process of a feature. Maybe if you're lucky one of the devs will answer your question. That's exactly what I think and how I see it as well. We don't have any strict dates, for all we know it might be out the second week of January, what's waiting two weeks longer after waiting for so long?

BETA Status Report - November 28

Really helpful Status Report, now I know where you guys and we stand and what we can expect. I'm really looking forward to 2018 and getting my hands on the first iteration of 0.63. I might not play (a lot of) DayZ at the moment or be active at the forums but I'm still here. When 0.63 launches, I'll still be here. I'm not going anywhere and I got a lot of time and patience. Also, I'm going to ignore a lot of posts in this thread intentionally. If they didn't get the message why the game is taking so long, I'm not going to waste my words on that. I'm informed on game development and have experience with software development. So call me a fanboy or others who get it as well, it will only show your lack of information, experience and the will and ability to learn. With different ammunition types they mean tracers, full metal jacket, hollow point, armor penetrating, etc. For example what would be possible: say you have a MP5, you put 5 to 10 9mm tracer rounds in first and then other 9mm type(s). This means that if you shoot 20 to 25 bullets, the last bullets are tracers which are a really good indication that your magazine is almost empty. There are a lot more variations you can make. Say for example they add armor to the game. You're unsure if your next firefight is going to be against someone with armor so you load in a hollow points first then AP, rinse and repeat. The hollow points will do the horrifying damage against un-armored targets and the AP rounds will make sure that you wound armored targets. This is something which I kind of miss as well. Having all the features and content listed is nice but some more details on a few things would be nice. This doesn't all have to be in 1 Status Report but they could introduce a new section where they each week explain a feature with more and deeper details. It depends on the company itself but think about: documentation, discussing/meetings, implementation, bug fixing, testing, quality assurance, waiting for other teams to wrap up their part, integrate the feature with the other features or engine modules and probably some more things. This is a reiterative process and most of these will be done multiple times, some more than others. Same thing here. I can keep my ass busy with other things or other games and will be back for sure when 0.63 hits Experimental.

    The P-38/P-51

So you can drop a bomb on the can to open it? Haha, in all seriousness, what's a P-38? As far as I know it's an US plane from WWII.

    22/11/2017, servers down?

Maybe they did a server sided update which extended the maintenance time. Edit: And that.

    Status Report 7 November 2017

Wire... the pain, why did you have to bring up this, for me touchy subject? But hell yeah, would love to see wire and boar's back in Experimental. I think these things we've pointed out are definitely new things or changes which will be interesting for some or all players. I would love to see a mod which increases immersion, shouldn't Vanilla DayZ provide (enough) immersion. Personally, I'm all for more loot, more weapons and more vehicles... types... definitely types. I'd like to see less quantity of it though.

    Status Report 7 November 2017

Another very information filled Status Report, thank you. What might be a good thing to do is release more video's of new features when you guys feel like it is to a point it's ready for public. By this way you can receive feedback like you guys got from the Gamescom demo. I think that will give beta more positive feedback rather than people get mad or disappointed because they don't like something. I can't believe we didn't come up with making such a large pumpkin farm, it's so simple yet hard to come up with. I will most certainly give my feedback when the game moves into beta. It's an hard thing to get right because you will have two sides. Getting it right is important so I hope everyone will give their feedback and we will get to a point which follows the game vision but also satisfies the players. Other than new content, fixes, etc. you could experiment with some variables. You can release a patch where you change the CLE in certain ways, the environment (like that rain only server) or some other variables you guys want to test out. This will probably interest a few players in testing out these changes.

Luckily they're already open, don't have a can opener on me. Nice to see they're back, thanks!

    General opionion on CLE densities

To be honest, I don't loot the big cities where I spawn in, only a few houses to get myself started. I try to move as fast as possible inland. Still, my opinion is that there shouldn't be too much loot on the coast because it will bring back the coastal warfare and inland will be pretty much empty again.

    .63 ETA ?

I'm not an animator nor do I barely know anything about it. But I do know that a game like DayZ has a shit ton more animations than a game like GTA V.
  12. Absolutely great source indeed. Hey, what is that? ArmA 3 is in that list as well... March 5, 2013 to April 23, 2013. Huh, 1 and an half month to develop an entire game, incredible! Does the list take in account at which stage the game went in Early Access? No, it doesn't. So this wouldn't be the best source to compare development time with either. Who says that you need to buy an Early Access game in order to follow its development? You can do that perfectly without buying the game.

    .63 ETA ?

I see there is a lot of misunderstanding regarding the new and old engine. I'll try to explain with what I know and my knowledge. They started off with the engine of Take On Helicopters which is I believe a modified version of the Real Virtuality 3 engine, the engine behind ArmA 2. The DayZ Standalone development team had to work with this engine which had very limited documentation and information. In order to make it work for DayZ they had to modify the engine severely. At some point they decided that constantly modifying and working with this engine was a pain in the ass and also came to the conclusion that this engine wouldn't work with their vision. So they started working on the new Enfusion engine which is either a brand new engine or the old engine almost completely rewritten. Since the Standalone was already in Early Access and to feed the players at least some content and changes they had to work with the old engine while developing the Enfusion engine along the side of it. They also had to implement certain modules to work with the old engine for example the pushing infected was because the AI was already on the new controller while the player is still on the old. Not only are they changing engines, they also went with a new scripting language instead of the old and outdated SQF which will increase performance as well. At this moment they stopped working on the current build of DayZ and the old engine except for major bug fixes, etc. They made this choice because any work put in would be a big waste of time because it's going to get replaced in the future anyway. All this takes time, patience and understanding, something which some people lack more than others. 0.63 will be a new milestone for the development of DayZ and it will be glorious! Regarding the animations, @exacomvm I believe you are heavily underestimating the work compared to your example of GTA V. If we take for example a weapon in GTA V, it will have animations for: taking out the weapon, putting away the weapon, reloading, iron sight and probably a few more. Now exactly how far they want to go with the weapon system in DayZ is unclear but if they're going as far as Escape From Tarkov, GTA 5 will be nothing compared to that. In EFT you have animations for: taking out the weapon, putting it away, reloading, checking the magazine capacity, checking if the gun is chambered, checking the gun itself, chambering the gun, taking out the mag, putting in a mag, loading a mag, unloading a mag, adding attachments, removing attachments, iron sight, secondary sights and much more. EFT has the most complex weapon system ever seen in a game at this time. DayZ's weapon system will be complex as well and that's because both game heavily focus on realism while GTA V focuses on gameplay and storyline. Hopefully my rambling will help some of you or will shed some light on some subjects. When will DayZ 0.63 come? I have no idea but I hope as soon as possible. But I have time, patience and understanding. I don't want the developers to rush anything. For me personally, for DayZ it's quality over quantity.

  17. I probably quoted the wrong post. It was aimed at your post before the one I quoted. And if you still don't get why I aimed at that post specifically, maybe you should read it again. And if people only give criticism like "ambient sound sucks" then maybe Early Access isn't meant for that person. The purpose of Early Access is that people give the developers feedback about the direction the game is going and the game itself. Feedback which only contains "ambient sound sucks" doesn't mean anything for the developers. They need to know what's wrong, why it's wrong, what can be improved, how can it be improved, etc. People will never get bashed if they give civil constructive criticism. They also will not get penalized for this as long as they're civil and constructive. Personally, I will never bash someone who takes their time to write a message with their opinion or feedback. I might disagree with it, but I will always react in a civil way to it. And I do disagree with your first point. I believe there shouldn't be mountains of canned food or other stuff near the spawn points. First of all, the coastal death match game will be back again and inland will be dead again. And second, I think it will simulate that a lot of people already went through there and picked most of it clean, which is what they actually did. Your second point, they mentioned in the most recent status report and/or the one before that one that they want to do a massive overhaul of the AI. So we'll have to see and wait I guess. I kind of would like to see the infected kind of like the zombie's from The Walking Dead, slow and not much of a threat but in numbers they should be not taken lightly. Meaning that whenever you sneak around them or take them on at once, you're fine but if you shoot your loud gun, you're going to have a bad time. I'm eager to see how they're going to change the AI/ I still don't think a Steam review about how bad desync is, how bad bugs are, etc. are valid criticism at this point. The game is still in development so nothing is final or set in stone. Which means that there might be a lot of desync now but perhaps 0.63 there are no desync problems anymore. The review will still be there but the issue is gone. Since a lot of people (including me) use the (Steam) reviews to see if the product is any good. If it's cluttered with reviews about desync or bugs while the issue is solved might scare away potential buyers. I believe that Steam should separate Early Access reviews with reviews after release.
  18. The big difference there is how it's phrased. People say DayZ is a shit game because it takes so long to develop. What you say is, DayZ is a good game but unfortunately the development had issues. That's a whole shit ton of difference right there. The Steam reviews shows this difference. The Steam reviews are meant to be targeted at the game itself, not the development of it. So if they give the game a bad review, they mean that the game is bad. That is unfortunately the problem, most people don't understand these facts. They don't know how software/game development works and they will go by what is presented to them. Even though people and the developers explaining it to them, they will stay stubborn and go with their vision. It's a shame because a lot of Early Access games gets a lot of shit because of this. A lot of these games don't deserve it, to be honest. This, very much this. If the developers would say "we're going to stop development and leave the game how it is in the current state", I wouldn't even be mad. I would be disappointed but mad? No, definitely not. I have more than enough hours in the game to get my money's worth. That doesn't mean of course that they should stop development. I really hope the game works out in the end and I have confidence in the developers to make it even greater for me than it already is. As you already said, there are not a lot of games or activities which gives you so many hours of fun for that amount of money. But the problem is, people are allowed to give their opinions or concerns. To prove this, go read the threads about the ambient sounds and the zoom being removed of the game. A lot of concerns and opinions in these threads came from the regulars of the forum, often referred to as white knights, fanboys, etc. The big difference is, the regulars express their opinion and concerns through constructive feedback. To show you what I mean I'm going to give you an example of non-constructive feedback (bad feedback) and an example of constructive feedback (good feedback). Non-constructive feedback: The new ambient sounds suck Constructive feedback: The new ambient sounds are a nice and welcome change. However I believe it needs some tweaking. Some of the sounds are too loud and the transition between locations are not optimal because you definitely can notice the switch between tracks. See how big of a difference it is? The above example will probably get a lot of negative reactions from the regulars and sometimes even deleted by the mods or the developers. Non-constructive feedback doesn't help anyone, not yourself, the community or the developers. Most regular people on the forum here provide constructive feedback, let it be negative or positive. They will sound off if there is something which they like but also when they don't like something. People who get banned, blocked or their posts get deleted by moderators or developers on any media don't provide that constructive feedback but are either there to troll or just to be a negative Nancy.

    Status Report 24 October 2017

Very tasty Status Report with a lot of information. Also love the video's, I hope it will be a recurring thing. Can't wait for 0.63, it'll be beautiful, scratch that, glorious! This time I'll participate in the event since I couldn't make it the previous two times, unfortunately. And I know exactly where there riddle is, I even made a screenshot of it myself a while ago. :) Unfortunately I don't use Twitter and don't have a screenshot of the building. I do however have my own screenshot of it: For the ones participating in the event, see you there! :) Edit: I'm not a timezone professor but coming Sunday, we go from CEST to CET. How does this affect the time of the event?

On wednesday there is always maintenance so the servers will be down for a certain period of time.
  21. Grand Theft Auto V (triple A game) took 5 years for the first version (PS 3 and Xbox 360) and 7 years for the last version (PC). The preliminary work started right after the release of Grand Theft Auto IV in April 2008. First release was on September 2013 and the PC version was released on 14 April 2015, which is exact 7 years. Keep in mind, they had a team of approximately 1.000 people developing it. Take all that in consideration when complaining about the development speed or time, next time.

Get Rid of the BLOOD TYPES

I like the feature. It makes people with the O- blood type important. It always made me a tad sad when I died and I had O-. We always sucked the ones with O- dry. I hope that in the future, blood bags would be superior to saline bags. Then again, I'm no medical specialist so I don't know how realistic the current values are.

The Gun Smoke is too much

I hope it's better in 0.63. I remember when I was laying prone at Tisy to ambush two people. It was so hard to actually see if I was hitting the person or not and if the person dropped down or not. That was all because of the smoke. I don't think I ever uploaded it to YouTube so unfortunately I can't show the clip. I may have it saved on my PC, but I'm not sure of that either.
