1.0 ? Dont expect anything until coders say so...
IMT replied to marcheur's topic in New Player Discussion
That's not entirely true, persistence/CLE plays a big role in DayZ's core, a very big one. It isn't only camps or bases, it's everything. When you log into a server, you start where you left last time, that's persistence. See an item or a dead infected laying around which isn't yours? That indicates recent activity from someone else which helps you survive those other players, that's persistence. The server restarts and you log back in and see an item on the floor which you just dropped, that's persistence. You pitched a tent and put stuff in there, next time you login, it's still there, that's persistence. It has a big impact on the game and without it, DayZ wouldn't be the same. Building a base is more than a toy for modders. In a survival game in a post-apocalyptic world, having a place which you can call home adds to your story. I'd say it is a core feature of the game and the developers have stated multiple times that it's an important aspect of DayZ's core. -
1.0 ? Dont expect anything until coders say so...
IMT replied to marcheur's topic in New Player Discussion
I don't entirely agree with that. As long as there is a problem with persistence or it needs a workaround, it is not a 1.0 with "basic and core features in a stable state with no major bugs". -
Would be handy if you share the name of the item. And I doubt the VSS will be any good unless you have a lot of experience with that thing and you're extremely good at sniping.
-
I think it is definitely related to the server population because when I was playing on The Village yesterday, which was high pop when I joined, the infected were moving in slow motion but also noticed a small delay in opening doors and having trouble moving into a building (getting stuck on the door after I opened it).

What about Central Galactic Time (CGT)?
-
I believe it does, you can always try it.
-
Right now because of a bug (or intentional?), a ghillie turns green when it gets worn but only when it's worn. You can throw it on the ground and shoot it with a low caliber like a 9mm to make it badly damaged and then patch it up with a sewing kit to worn.

On PC you need to hold R, no idea on Xbox though. Try holding the reload/rechamber button when your gun is jammed.

To prevent people from exploiting gamma.

So I guess we all read the recent Status Report and the huge deal which came with it. I know I already made a long post but I wanted to make another, separate post and think it's important that this one is separate. I wanted to talk about DayZ and the future of DayZ. Now first of all, I think you all should read the long Twitter post from TheRunningManz: http://www.twitlonger.com/show/n_1sqmql6?new_post=true I think we can all agree with what he wrote. I'm going to use some references from the post in my post. Now I'm making this post to get the support from the community but also to change the mind of the developers/Bohemia. As we all know, DayZ has been in development for a long time. The game had a lot of hate during the course of the development process. But over time, these people left and gave up, which left us with the people who love DayZ and believe in the game and its concept. Now, because of the recent Status Report, the hardcore supporters feel cheated, and rightfully so. They went with the Early Access road to include the community in the development process and I think that now more than ever, it's time to start listening to the community because it will be crucial for DayZ and the future of DayZ. Let's see where this huge deal came from with the recent Status Report, for that we need to go back in time. Some of you might know me, some of you don't. I have been a member of the forums for quite a while now, signed up on the 10th of April 2015 and around that time I started playing DayZ, the 26th of March 2015, to be exact. I have played approximately 2500 hours now so you could say I'm a DayZ veteran and I loved the game and still do. I have always followed the development and even though I didn't play every single build (I don't think there is anyone out there who did), I played every patch. I followed the development closely by participating on the forums and reading the Status Reports plus see the progress in-game for myself. DayZ was sold to me as a gritty survival game and to this day, I'm still here waiting for that because the developers always said they wouldn't stray from the concept. They always said that vanilla DayZ would be the same thing as the Steam store says, a gritty survival game. I remember what the original goal for DayZ 1.0 was, stated by the developers. DayZ 1.0 would see the new engine and the features built on it, the game would be at least on par with 0.62. Now, with the recent Status Report we all read that 1.0 is in fact not going to be on par with 0.62. In fact, a lot of the features of 0.62 are going to be implemented after DayZ hits 1.0. DayZ 1.0 means that the core of what DayZ should represent, is represented in-game. Unfortunately, this is not going to be the case since a lot of features is going to be missing which would represent the core of the game. A lot of features which are going to be left out, mentioned in the Status Report as "flavor features", should in fact be represented in the core of DayZ, in 1.0. The most mentioned feature and the one which we can all agree to is for example bows, but there are so many more features, too many to not include them. Not only are a lot of features not going to make 1.0, I have a hard time to figure out which features will actually be in DayZ 1.0. There are a lot of features mentioned but a lot are left out. RaptorM60 touched a few features which I mentioned which are going to be in 1.0 like binoculars, rangefinders, ghillie, etc. These are currently not in-game and a lot of features are not mentioned in the Status Report. So we are left with a big blank space what 1.0 is going to be like, even though you guys tried your best to explain it. Are we going to see a lot of features coming in the 2 months? It seems a lot of work to get all of these things right and out before 2019. I hope we start seeing a lot of things and features soon because it is looking very grim right now. For DayZ 1.0 the core gameloop of DayZ was the most important aspect. The core gameloop for DayZ is about longetivity. In TheRunningManz's twitter post he mentions that the current gameloop isn't about that at all and I agree with that, 100 %. We're going to get base building and we have tents and storage, etc. back. That is nice and all but what is the purpose? There are only a fraction of items currently in the game which used to be in 0.62, so how can we have longetivity without only a fraction of items? This goes for a lot of types like weapons, clothing and a lot of other items. Another thing he mentioned is that civilian loot doesn't even have any purpose anymore, it's all about the military bases and it's true. Everyone runs with the AKM or M4A1 since that surpasses all the other weapons, which are even a few. It surpasses the civilian clothing, food, you name it. Yes, even food. There is enough tactical bacon to practically ignore your hunger. There are enough weapons and ammo to equip entire armies. All this while finding an actual gun or ammo in any of the civilian locations are harder to find than in any military location. If you go to any moderate size military location you will find your endgear fairly quick and plenty of it. How will the core gameplay be about longetivity if you can get the endgame in one swoop? Not only there is an inbalance in the core gameloop but there are just too few items in right now. And I also agree with TheRunningManz that there are too little weapons, I'm talking about guns as well as melee weapons. I haven't even mentioned a lot of features which got called "flavor features", which in fact, add a lot to that core gameloop. Things like fishing, nurturing your character, actual survival elements, hunting for meat and leather, horticulture, traps, crafting, etc. I used to love to play 0.62 because there was a lot of shit to do. One day I would go fishing, the other day I would be hunting cows so I can fill an entire military tent of meat, hell, cooking the meat was an entire feature for me because sometimes I would sit about an hour to just cook the meat. Scavenging the different locations in Chernarus for the plentiful of items it had and this included every item type from weapons to even what people would call useless items. Perhaps I would go hunting for leather to make some leather clothes or make a nice garden to get some vegetables. A lot of the things I mention above here are in my eyes not going to be in the game, at least that is what I make up out of the Status Report. If I'm and everyone else are wrong about this, we would like to see some results asap. At least then we can get a better view of what 1.0 is actually going to be. And even though a lot of things which were in 0.62 are not going to be in 1.0, I still think they should be in there. There should be at least be full parity between 0.62 and 1.0 before you guys are going to release DayZ. Which brings me to the actual point why I wrote this post. I urge you guys to NOT release DayZ before you reach this full parity. Do not give the community a dumbed down version of what was promised, it will be your downfall and I will tell you why. When 0.63 was around the corner, everyone agreed and even you guys yourself said it as well. 0.63 and the upcoming content which would lead to beta and eventually 1.0 are going to be crucial for the future of DayZ. As TheRunningManz also mentioned in his post, a lot of people came back with 0.63 and the content updates and were actually pleasantly surprised about what you guys they achieved. All the roadbumps of the development process started to blow away but it wasn't enough. Everyone agreed that if they could pull off all things which were in DayZ and a lot of features which have been discussed and mentioned in the pass, DayZ might see an huge comeback. Should you guys release DayZ in the state you described in the Status Report, that opportunity will be lost and it will this time be lost forever. Everyone is waiting and counting on you guys to release DayZ 1.0 with the actual features and things promised and not a dumbed down version of that. Not only are those people going to stay away from the game, it will push away the ones who have been there all the time, the people who had your back during the process. I don't know where all of this sudden rush to release the game comes from but the general consensus is that it comes from higher up and the publisher, not the developers. If so, convince them to not release DayZ in this state, convince them to postpone it. Yes, you guys will shoot yourself in the foot but you will shoot yourself in the foot with a .22 instead of a .308. 2018 was going to be year of DayZ, let's not stop there let's make 2018, 2019 and even further the years of DayZ. To even back my statement up that releasing DayZ at the end of 2018 is going to be a disaster, I have a perfect example. Recently a game called Post Scriptum, which is a realistic WW2 simulation game around Operation Market Garden released their game. However, the game was incomplete, it was not optimized and a lot of features were missing and there were some nasty bugs. Still, it is a great game but it tainted the game as well. Not sure why they pushed the release but everyone warned them and they got an huge backlash from it. They offered a refund period and I believe a lot of people used that opportunity to refund the game. They still are releasing regular content, bug fixes and what not, I guess they didn't want to go to Early Access or something. The point is, they got an huge backlash but they were forgiven by the hardcore fanbase because the game is fairly new. This is not going to be the case for DayZ since you guys already are on the edge because of mistakes in the past. Don't push yourself over that edge, it will be your downfall, it will damage the reputation of not only the game but Bohemia as well. Again, I urge you guys to NOT release DayZ in 2018, postpone the beta and 1.0 rather than ("flavor") features to avoid a catastrophe at launch. 1.0 is the key to showing all the people who hated the game in the past that they were wrong. Don't mess that up, don't miss that chance. Do the right thing and listen to the community, now more than ever! I know it is a long post but this had to be thrown out there. I love the game and don't want to see it fail. We don't mind waiting a while, we just want a survival game done right and you guys have the opportunity to do that, take that opportunity! Edit: if you think I missed something or didn't touch a subject, feel free to leave a comment.

The developers have touched on this subject a long time ago and the reason we won't see any raincoats or rainproof overalls is because of clipping issues.
-
Oh god, they're going to pick me, aren't they?
-
I have been hoping the same thing all this time now but everytime I'm disappointed, so I stopped believing that. The last few months my mood has switched from optimistic to pessimistic, unfortunately.
-
I'm going to be honest, it is a very great impression. Maybe they should hire you. And please don't mention the SKS, it hurts. :(
-
It's not only the persistence for me to be honest. It's a lot more than that. Just tried the latest Experimental update to get a feel of what we can expect next week of the release. My findings are that it is not ready for release. Played 30 minutes and then quit out of frustration. Teleporting infected, rags going ruined while cutting up a perfectly healthy shirt, clothing goes from worn to ruined in just a few hits, you can only do power attacks which are slow as fuck, combine that with the chain aggro and the teleporting and you are basically fucked. Still haven't tested nighttime, lighting and a ton of other stuff, I'm not going to either so I'm hoping that's fixed. If this build hits stable and is called the Release Candidate, then they just screwed themselves so hard.
-
Well if that's the case, it's not because of Xbox but rather because Playstation, since Sony doesn't allow Early Access on their platform. So not only would the PC community affected by this but the Xbox community as well. Basically it's the same reason but the name is different. Although, I don't want to make any hard accusations but my feelings are leaning towards this direction as well.
-
But they are rushing it, that's the point. It's not about not getting the game finished or what ever, it's about what they said what 1.0 would be, which features it would have, etc. It currently is and is going to be a fraction of which has been said. And we're not talking about completely new features here, we're talking about features which were in 0.62 but are currently not in the game and are coming after 1.0. As I said in my previous post, we have all been waiting for 1.0, that is when we get to experience the vanilla experience. Unfortunately, that experience is only going to be a fraction of which has been promised to us a long time ago. It's not about the development time, at least not to me and a lot of other people. It's about the fact they're rushing out/rushed out beta and 1.0 quickly without it being what it's supposed to be. I don't give a shit if it took them another year or even 2 years to get 1.0 fully completed. All I wanted is a 1.0 with what has been said and promised to us. They have dumbed down 1.0 twice now, the first time was a bummer but most of us accepted it, but the second time it got even dumbed down further and I and a lot of people don't or didn't accept that. All I wanted is for DayZ to get to the point where I launched DayZ 1.0 and said to myself "damn, it took a while but they pulled it off. We got the game they always promised and damn, it feels good, glad I witnessed the entire process". Unfortunately, that's not what I'm going to say to myself when I launch it on the 13th.

Laughable, huh? Doesn't suit my needs or meet my expectations, huh? Give me a break. You came, you went and now you're coming back. I and a lot of other people have been here for a long time, stayed and followed development, all waiting for 1.0. We all witnessed and have seen what has been said about 1.0, which features have been in the game and are currently missing. Everyone who has been following development, testing patches, etc. share the same opinion that we feel let down by the developers and are not getting the 1.0 which we expected and which we were promised. As I already have said countless of times, we have waited for so long for 1.0, we can wait longer for a fully finished 1.0 with all the features and stable gameplay. The majority of the community is asking/asked the developers to postpone beta and 1.0 but they don't listen. We're feeling left out and cheated, nothing more, nothing less.
-
All I'm saying is that there are a lot of people who bought the game a long time ago and haven't played the game a lot or are just coming back now and might not have followed the development this entire time. Most long-time followers of the game and development who have been actively following it are disappointed and that tells us something. Most of those people have been waiting for 1.0 and 1.0 isn't going to be remotely close as was promised in the past. However, I'm glad you understand my frustration and situation.
-
You've signed up on the forums in 2014. Have you played the entire time since then? I have played every patch and most of the builds since I started playing, all while following the development closely. I have been patiently waiting for 1.0 and the promises which were made every time about which features will be in the game when the game hits 1.0. It's only a handful of features, so do you mind that I'm upset, pissed off and feel cheated? We had to swallow everything, again and again. The problem is they are stuffing more and more in our mouth so the swallowing becomes harder and harder until the point you can't swallow anymore. And I have reached that point. 2018 was going to be the year of DayZ and for me it started all good. We got 0.63 which felt like a changed game but it stopped there. The closer we got/get to the end of the year, the more disappointed I get. 1.0 was for me the point where I can finally judge the game. I rarely judged the development or the state of the game before that because I knew deep inside that 1.0 will be the day where DayZ is the survival game we all wanted and have been waiting for. Guess how that turned out...

*scratches head*, wait what?! So what's going to be done in upcoming week? There is so much still to be done, are you guys suddenly going to pull a fully different version out of your hat before that time? This has to be a joke, right? Right?!

Stop being so stubborn man. https://partner.steamgames.com/doc/store/earlyaccess#9 That's what Steam has to say about it. Since they're using Steam's Early Access, it will mean that on Steam the game is fully released. No matter how you twist or bend it, as soon as they remove the Early Access tag on Steam, it's fully released. I highly advise you to read the entire article. There is all the information you need to know. And all games who leave Early Access and are still in beta made up their own rules on development life cycle and development release life cycle. Leaving early access means feature complete so that means BI is slapping their own rules on development life cycle and development release life cycle as well but that has been no secret since we're in beta and the game doesn't have all the systems in and is not fully feature complete. The game is pretty much still in alpha but they just labeled in beta and shifted to bugfixing instead of implementing. After 1.0 they just go back to alpha to implement the missing features and systems.
-
Did you even actually read what I said? I litteraly quoted what Early Access is... "Early access, also known as early funding, alpha-access, or paid-alpha, is a FUNDING MODEL in the video game industry by which consumers can pay (or get it for free) FOR A GAME IN THE VARIOUS DEVELOPMENT CYCLES (PRE-ALPHA, ALPHA, BETA) and obtain access to the pre-full release versions of the game, while the developer is able to use those funds to continue work on the game" I guess that highlighting wasn't clear enough for you. Is it clear enough for you now or do I need to highlight it with red? Alpha does indeed not mean Early Access and so doesn't beta. However, Early Access does follow the regular software release life cycle and regular software development life cycle. That means as soon as a game leaves Early Access, it has followed all the development phases and it's a fully released game. It doesn't even make sense what you're trying to say. Early access literally means, well... early access. You get early access to a game which is still in development. When it leaves early access, there is no early access anymore. What does that mean? Hmm, I don't know, perhaps that it's released? It's not rocket science dude.

"Early access, also known as early funding, alpha-access, or paid-alpha, is a funding model in the video game industry by which consumers can pay (or get it for free) for a game in the various development cycles (pre-alpha, alpha, beta) and obtain access to the pre-full release versions of the game, while the developer is able to use those funds to continue work on the game". After DayZ leaves Early Access, the Early Access warning will be gone at Steam, the reviews will then count towards a fully released game, various gaming news site will publish articles about it, gaming reviews will give the game a review not based on Early Access, etc. In other words, it's a freaking fully released game. 1.0 = a fully released game. How hard is it to comprehend? As someone already suggested, read up on the software development life cycle and the software release life cycle, maybe that will clear things up for you. All I know is that the current build definitely isn't a RC, far from it in fact. Shit, the game isn't even fun to play right now. I can't play the game for 30 minutes before getting frustrated and quitting the game. Less than 3 weeks are left before the holiday season begins and there is so much to do, much more than you even think. I'm not only talking about bugs but also balancing and tweaks. It's a mission impossible to say the least unless the developers suddenly pull out a stable, mostly bug free, balanced and tweaked build out of their hat in 2 weeks. To be honest, all this time I haven't been put off from the game so much as I have been right now. Even when there were builds where a shit ton of stuff was absolutely broken. I guess it's the deadline which is making me frustrated with the game. Seeing it in this poor state and knowing that they have less than 3 weeks left. The flood gates will then open but it isn't going to be the "oh wooow, this is cool", "they really pulled it off", "wow, I was wrong about DayZ" flood we all expected. It's going to be the complete opposite. It's a shame. A real shame, that's what it is.

I can't judge if it was a hacker or not. All I can tell is that I haven't seen a hacker in a very long time. But that doesn't mean they're not there. There was a time where it was a serious problem but luckily that time is gone and hopefully for good. Also, I believe DayZ uses Steam's VAC. I believe that means that a person who has a VAC ban, they can't play any VAC protected games. It also shows on their profile if they had a VAC ban in the past. People who had a VAC ban in the past usually have trouble or even get denied from joining or participating in communities (and rightfully so).
