Anyone else think DayZ should switch engines?

And have delayed the standalone by 2 years. It wasn't an option, not matter, how much you fantasize about it.

Is DayZ being developed right in your opinon?

I really wanted to address all the nonsense about the payment model and the good old times, before independent developers could get funding directly from their customers, instead of having to relying on major industry players and their bullshit marketing departments, but fuck that, this thread to me is now all about Bohemia Interactive acquisition of an awesome interior designer. Don't compare H1Z1 or WarZ to DayZ's funding model, because they are opposite. H1Z1 and WarZ penalized you for supporting early development, while DayZ compensated you for it.

Anyone else think DayZ should switch engines?

Always thought the name DayZ was quite cleaver, then again I never thought DayZ stood for Day Zombie.

Anyone else think DayZ should switch engines?

Q: Why did Rocket chose Real Virtuality? A: Because no one in the industry would have anything to do with his concept. Q: Why did Rocket stay with Bohemia Interactive? A: Because all the high paying job offers didn't come with creative control. You know what, let's switch engine right now, yeah! Let's switch everything, how about instead of zombie survival, we turn DayZ into Euro Truck Simulator and while we're at it, let's rename Bohemia Interactive to Death Row Records and now that we have crossed the point of no return and ventured into hypothetical territory I'd really like to be taller and have a million dollars too.

Love How Everyone Is An Expert

I personally believe the way forward is to use all these DayZ millions is for Bohemia Interactive to start acting like a triple A developer and funnel funding from development into marketing and PR instead. If DayZ can sell 2 million copies with zero PR, imagine how many copies they can sell, if they expand the exposure of DayZ. I believe there are many more gamers out there, who've got money to burn, who don't have the first clue what alpha means, but thinks early access is some kind of cool insider VIP way to get full access to a finished and perfect game.

    Essential for survival: Sleep

I'm treating this as a mental exercise. I do find it to be a very interesting subject, but I don't think you can implement sleep or resting mechanics without either major gameplay changes or quite a few new features. In general any kind of game mechanic that forces you to stop playing the game, will never be popular by neither the developer or the player. My all time zombie survival game is probably the browser game Urban Dead, where you'd earn an action point every 15-30 minutes. When you logged in, you'd have earned enough action points to scavenge nearby buildings or travel far to other neighborhoods, but you always needed to reserve a few action points, so you could hide or barricade inside a building, before you logged off. If you came across a player in the street, it would usually be an offline player, either a zombie or another survivor. To level up you had to kill zombies, but if you were unlucky and missed your dice rolls, you might find yourself stranded in the middle of the street without any action points. You then either log off and hope for the best or keep an eye on the clock and wait for a new action point, so you could move into a building or kill the zombie. Players would often group up, barricade buildings and defend them against hordes. I don't even know if you can add such an aspect to DayZ, but if I were to go about it, I would add another bar to your overall health bars. I'd add a stamina health bar, which you had to replenish or maintain, just like food and water. In order to rest, you'd occupy and barricade a building. Barricaded buildings would then attract waves of zombie hordes, just like the movies. These zombie hordes shouldn't obviously be very big, but the more survivor inside the barricade house, the easier defending it would be and maybe the less time, you'd have to rest. Other players could then either spot a barricaded house and offer their help or they could attack the house, knowing that the residents are fatigued and forced to stay put for 15-20 minutes. This mechanic wouldn't force you to log off to rest, but rather remain stationary and defend to rest. Maybe this could become relevant once base building or barricading is implemented and when you can secure and lock certain areas to avoid server hopping inside barricades. This reminds me too much of traditional fps shooter health regeneration.

    I should have known better

You know what killed you, leaving your character unattended, killed you.

    you call that jumping?

dammed if yo do, dammed if yo don't.
  11. You might have to redo a lot of coding and modeling.
  12. I would love to, but you'd have to rewrite the entire stamina, fatigue system. Slow walkers only work, if you can only run for very short distances and need to rest a lot. I'd love DayZ to be more like the browser game Urban Dead, where you basically use all your action points to scavenge shortly and then find shelter, before your action points are used up.

    Just saw Rocket again.

  14. 1. Since Eurogamer claimed Rocket was leaving DayZ next year, DayZ has sold additional 500,000 copies. 2. Rhinocrunch.

    I'm worried!

As a North Korean, I'm pretty offended too.
  18. All I can do is share your frustration, remind myself that the devs are aware of the problem and hope they find a solution soon. I believe it's because ammo is stored on the client, but I think they are working on changing that.

    Two million units sold

Approximate dates is a bad idea, while gamers often struggle with impatience and handle uncertainty very poorly, they handle delays even worse. There are still people holding a grudge over the delay of the standalone December 2012, even though they know a release this early would probably have meant, they would have gotten the mod packaged as a standalone.
  20. As long as people are killing themselves for better spawn points, heck no.

There's no evidence for your previous statement, on a jury you're to base your verdict on the evidence.

    Two million units sold

With kickstarter and with early access, you make a conscious decision, you trade early access for a certain risk. However! You were reasonably warned, both from playing the free mod and on the sales page itself. Speaking of the sales page, the sales page also described the roadmap and already in December 2013, this roadmap informed you that the alpha was scheduled for the coming 12 months. So far the warning still applies and so far we're both still in alpha and still in 2014. It's on you to control your own wild expectations and manage your patience.

    Two million units sold

Don't be an idiot. WarZ was so obvious, that even thought it was the top seller on the Steam holiday sale, Steam was forced to take them down for the outright lies on their sales page. They lied so consistently they were forced to edit their sales page three times in the first 24 hours and because they simply couldn't stop lying , they were kicked off Steam, before the holiday sale really got started. The main difference is that DayZ warned people on their sales page, while WarZ lied. Be honest now, you bought into WarZ didn't you?

Hestaine, my maine, Would have beaned if I had any left. What a scoop, great, great read, especially if you've been a long time follower from the Codemaster days, lost of insight, lots of explanations for the decisions made over a last decade.
