Why do you lose items while swimming?!
dallas replied to Brandnew11980's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I trained both in regular airforce boot. You need a bivouac and time to pack your gear, to cross deep waters safely. But you also train what to do, if you find yourself falling into deep water with all your gear on. At that point, not downing, becomes a higher priority than your gear. I figure ItemDrop 1 simulates basic water survival. While Itemdrop 0 simulates river crossing. -
By the way if you experience people calling the cops durring these photoshoots, you might want to place a call at the local PD in advance, tell what you're doing, where exactly and for how long you're there. A few cops advised me to, when they showed up durring the shooting of a student film that included a plastic gun. We had permission to be in the area and put up signs warning that we were shooting a film and not to be alarmed. But even the cops missed all the signs although they were hanging all over the place. If we had notified the PD, they said, they could just have calmed worried callers over the phone, instead of showing up and investigating it themselves. Might be worth a call, if you're interrupted often. :)

Are dogs worth 2 months of development time?
dallas replied to MasterSith's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I'll defenently check them out on arrival, no matter when the next patch some will get pissed off over something. I hope dogs have been put on hold, while DayZ and BattleEye try stopping the flood of morons with hacks, exploiters and other cheats. With all the private servers modifying the mod to fit their specific needs, I think it's time to let the mod be mod and focus on the standalone. -

Two different things, both basic infantery stuff. One is how not to drown, the other is river crossing. -
Anyone else plan to play the mod even after the standalone comes out?
dallas replied to rollo23's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
If the standalone delivers, I'm gone for good. Not really interested in private hives or Lingor, so I plan to move forward with it. -
Whether you prefere the term racist, bigot or xenophobe, I think this thread applies.

While i may looke like one, i'm NOT a bandit!
dallas replied to Tordenskiold's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
If you murder someone in selfdefense, maybe you should get out of Elektro for an hour or two. Not all bandits are bandits, I meet two bandits in Cherno's church, one of them were shouting friendly friendly, atleast I think he did, but it was hard to hear him over the sound of my AK. A hero is someone who primarily helps other survivors or kill bandits, if you constantly place yourself in situations, where you are shooting at other survivors, you're either a good bandit or a bad hero. So only kill bandits and dissengage from firefights with neutral survivors. After being forced to murder in selfdefense, take a two hour adventure into the empty wilderness. Or if you primarily prefere PvP in the cities, embrace the merry bandit lifestyle. -

Thinking about buying another ArmA II copy to make another DayZ Character
dallas replied to Vulric (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I considered that too, but I just ended up relaxing my play style a little instead. Respawning at the beach, having to find new gear is probably what I enjoy most in DayZ. -
Current Dayz mod and the future Dayz Standalone game.
dallas replied to NicholaiGinovaef's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Impossibru to predict. Rocket's first goal was 600 players and DayZ ended up selling the shit out of ArmA2. If the standalone only sells a fraction of the additional ArmA2 sales, it'll probably still be considered a morderate succes. However if the standalone reaches half of the recent ArmA2 sales or even more, it'll will be a raging foaming monster and could possibly regain some of the original roaring hype that changed an ArmA mod into an internet sensation and maybe then, the standalone can go even further than the mod. The standalone has to offer remarkable improvements against hacking and deliver a promise of more endgame options. Because we've pretty much already experienced all there is to surviving peacefully, living of the land and PvP in the cities/airfields. The standalone has to offer something more, not just to jusitfy the $15 price point, but also simply to keep players interested. -
How To Get The Best Out Of DayZ?
dallas replied to PointlessPerson's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Check the OP again, he asked for help to make DayZ look great, not for help how to exploit DayZ, but thanks for teaching any new KOS kiddies. -
Why do you lose items while swimming?!
dallas replied to Brandnew11980's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
How to test whether ItemDrop is enabled or not. Drop everything, but your toolbelt and gunbelt on the beach, also remember to drop items in your binocular slots. Place a singly expendable item(can of food) in your main inventory and swim for roughtly 30-40 seconds, 23 swimming strokes. If you don't lose the can, you can safely assume ItemDrop has been disabled on the server. -
I play at night, because the guys cranking up their gamma are playing on daylight servers anyways. This means daylight servers are full to the brink and therefor prefered by script kiddies. I can then freely use my flashlights, chemlights and if I feel safe pop some road flares. I love playing at night, it's a different game and mostly hacker free.

+70.000 but the Hero skin is bugged. Untill you reach 2500 humanity, you regenerate a little humanity while actively playing. However when you login as Hero, the debug monitor shows your humanity at 0, this means you'll regenerate additional 2500, which is added to your character's real humanity, evertime you play for an hour or two. The only difficulty getting the hero skin for regular survivors is getting from 2500 to 5000. After you go hero, you're generating +2500 each session, because the debug monitor is broken.

Why do you lose items while swimming?!
dallas replied to Brandnew11980's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
ItemDrop enabled/disabled. Unless you're trained combat swimmer, basic water survival means getting rid of gear weighing you down to avoid drowning. The server I play on has disabled ItemDrop and it's pretty nice, being able to swim to Skalisty without worrying, however staying afloat with a backpack, a handgun, an anti-material rifle and Squad Automatic Weapon, 800 rounds of 5.56, that's a little much to ask for even for the sealest of SEALS. -
just bought arma 2 and its expansion to play dayz
dallas replied to Giddeon's topic in New Player Discussion
Just don't doawnload anything from youtube videos. People trusting downloads from youtube videos promising undetected hacks and free loot, usually wake up and realize thier cd-key have been stolen and replaced with already banned keys. -
Teh boomstick never fails, got a 1014 in my backpack as we speak. :)

Honeymoon's over, lots of us have already enjoyed DayZ to it's fullest and when we play, we play on low pop servers to avoid the ten year olds. We're hanging in there, waiting for the Standalone, which don't need ArmA2's openness enginewise, because all it's has to do is DayZ. One the other hand ArmA has to allow scripting, because that's what makes ArmA so aweseom, the same awesomeness that allowed Rocket this great platform for DayZ. Some dissagrees about ArmA's greatness, but without ArmA there would have been any DayZ for a loong long time. You'd have to wait for WarZ, which by the way might not have happened without DayZ either. :D

Is KOS really that big of a problem?
dallas replied to colekern's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I voted: It's alreay being addressed. Since humanity is back in play again, since you have the choice between bandit/survivor/hero, peole are making that choice. Since humanity returned, I've ventured back down to Cherno/Elektro to either meet up with friendly players or to hunt bandits. I've meet a good few bandits, but I've also meet several people, who said they were friendly and actually were. It's actually balancing PvP. In the sense that people who KOS everyone, turn bandits and friendly heroes KOS all bandits. Friendlies, who want to interact with other friendlies in a friendly manner, can look for other friendly heroes. So players still KOS, it's just not one sided anymore. Yet you can't trust all heroes or non-bandits automatically, there's still survivors and heroes, who KOS everyone on sight, but that's fine, that helps make the game unpredictable and keeps us on our toes. -
Welcome to the show. :beans: ^^Little hacking on low pop servers.

Rule #1. Do not fly with any pilot that says the following: "I'm great at flying." He'll usually show off his elite top gun skills, getting all of you killed.
