I think it's random how much individual zombies bash you, you might have been unlucky to get bashed twice by a Mike Tyson zombie. I try my best never to alarm zombies and if I do, I either carry enough ammo to deal with them or have a planned escape route, so I can avoid hand to hand, because you never know if a zombie's accidentally gonna knock ya out.

Since we're only 1-2 months away from the standalone and money is tight, wait it out. If you're not already a big fan of ArmA 2, which is also winding down, ArmA 2 players are pacing themselves for the release of ArmA 3, you're much better off for the standalone, which will be a much more streamlined experience(obviously I have no actual proof for this statment).

I think after working full time on the mod, Rocket had to face the reality, that he couldn't focus on both projects at once. Also because of the engine limitations of the mod, the mod is probably better served on smaller, actively administrated servers, where admins can quickly respond to hackers. I belive Matt Lightfoot said something about currently thinking up some kind of community infrastructure to benefit further user content, but I can't recall the specifics.

You certainly got him there. Btw you noticed how the mod is now safely in the community's own hands and doing quite well?

Devblog details on engine architecture for DayZ
dallas replied to rocket's topic in Mod Announcements & Info
I see several schools of thoughts dominating DayZ and maybe that's why it's so successful. Some groups congregate at the loot hubs, because their endgame is to get the endgame gear. Gear and death comes easy in these PvP epicenters. What you easily lose, you can easily recover. Others play to beat the average life expectancy, to survive as long as they possibly can, untill suicidal bordom forces them to throw caution in the wind. These players seek away from the most populated areas and have to make due with traveling much longer distance, loot spread out thin, but much less player encounters and deaths. As player progression is tied to gear and inventory space, I don't see much change in the player demography of both the populated and desolated areas. When loot is easy to come by in the most dense player hubs, permadeath is somewhat negotiable. While cities might become disease ridden and unhealthy for players, these players might not even survive long enough in the cities to suffer the consequences. The challenge might increase for the lone wolves, however they might actually welcome another challenge, since living of the remote lands is easy, once you get the hang of it. But since this broad appeal to PvP and PvE players alike, creates such different motivations and dynamics, it's very complex to make any radical gameplay changes. I'm pretty biased, I'm somewhat content, whenever I add another day to my survival and see the Chernarus sun set in the west, but if Rocket forced everyone to play as safely as I, DayZ would soon become boring, predictable and alot less dangerous. I think it's wrong to force players out of the cities and into the wild. Some players prefere the south coast and other players, because the increased action, is worth the decreased life expectancy. Bandits aren't that concerned about tomorrow or their long term health, just look at the bad guys in Waterworld. -

I don't think current maps sizes or Chernarus+ can be stretched to hold more than max hundred players. -
I think it's fine when you're using a cco or holo scope, but when you're using more powerful scopes or iron sights, aiming 4-500 meters downrange, you do lose some peripheral vision.

will becoming a hero have BAD conseqeunces?
dallas replied to zombiehacker595's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I've seen standing corpses of all kin of skins, not only survivors. I've never died due to bugs relating to the hero skin, had it for months. The only downside is the bright white shirt, but when playing as a hero, you want other friendlies to notice. -
[edit]spammer posts/account deleted Yo Catextice, you know it's more respectable to work in telemarketing or prostitution than making a living as a professional spammer.
-
You shot someone for looking at you, sounds like preemptive self defense. Did you also loot his corpse in self defense? :)
-
There you go, at least you got confirmed he wasn't your friend after all...
-
What a weird little bunghole, I guess you're better off without him, since he apparently held ill will against you.

Killed someone in self-defense. Now I am a bandit.
dallas replied to ianramos's topic in New Player Discussion
Killing anyone changes the way to perceive your fellow man, even when it's in self defense. If you solve all your conflicts with violence, you're bound to end as a permanent bandit. If you're not interested in being a bandit, you must leave the populated areas and venture into the wilderness, while you regenerate your humanity. It might take you a couple of hours, you can use those to decide whether you want to survive by the gun or not. -
1. #kick Bahadir = Dallas would like to kick Bahadir However since most servers has disabled player voting, nothing happens. 2. Sounds like a hacker, but too little info to be sure.

Just remember they also react to sound, if you're sprinting down a street, you'll usually alarm half the town. If you got a bunch after you, run standing, turn a couple of corners and switch to crouched running. If you only alarm one zombie, stay in crouched running, to avoid attracting other zombies and either draw the zombie away till you can break line of sight in a bush or shoot him out of hearing range of other zombies.

New death messages for who killed you and what weapon, good or bad (poll)
dallas replied to thelonewarrior's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
With a little experience you can fairly easy tell a weapon by the sound, accuracy and rate of fire. If you get killed instantly by a headshot or something high caliber, you'll usually be dead before the sound catches up with the bullet. I think it's a feature more for arcade shooters. -
In the top 5 best DayZ videos ever. :)

CZ550 Estimating Range to Target
dallas replied to general frenky's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
The smallest squares, thee digit squares are 100x100 meters. If you zoom out on the map, two digit squares are 1000x1000 meters. If you zoom all the way out, one digit squares are 10x10 kilometers. -

What's a good way to make players not shoot?
dallas replied to Imafighter's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Some people just want to watch the world burn. The same people wants to kill the neighborhood's pets. Coincidentally they also wet their childhood beds. -
What's a good way to make players not shoot?
dallas replied to Imafighter's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
OP don't listen to the trigger happy "heros." As a hero you'll come across many, who are willing to shoot anyone they see. You'll also come across many, who are so scared they'll shoot anyone they think is a threat and they see threats everywhere. If you follow their advise above, escalating every situation either by threatening people, shooting them in the legs or ordering them around at gun point, then you're not really a hero, you're more like a well dressed bandit. Instead of escalating these tense situations, deescalate them. Break line of sight/line of fire, take cover behind something solid and say Friendly, friendly! while doing so. Tell players armed with axes to keep their distance and players with firearms to avoid pointing at you. Chernarus is a dangerous place and forcing players you meet to disarm and completely place themselves at your mercy is a really bad way of building trust. 1. Take cover to avoid getting killed on sight. 2. Take cover to avoid presenting a direct threat. 3. Establish contact, start with friendly, friendly! 4. Start a conversation from safe cover. Remember when talking to a stranger to listen for the warning signs, if he comes off as unnatural friendly, mocking you or disrespecting you, don't trust him or give him any opportunity to shoot you in the face. Just ask him what's he's doing, where he's going, if he needs something and take it from there. -
Slow zombies are only a threat, when you're forced to take shelter. In DayZ, when players are exhausted they log off and go to sleep. If you guys remember the browser game Urban Dead, you'd get an action point every 30 minutes and you'd basically make sure you took shelter, before you ran out of action points or had to leave the game for several hours. Sometimes you're log in to find the mall you were barricaded in, being breached and zombie players busy killing afk players. Slow zombies only work, if players are forced to stop and rest ingame.

Playing on an official server, I just got kicked twice for script restriction #20. Can anyone explain what that means? First time I got kicked I was busy managing the contents of my tent, when I logged back in, another player in a ghillie suit was busy looting my tent, exactly where I was kicked from the server. I spawned more or less on top of him and as soon as I saw him, I preemptively plugged him in the back of his head with my .45 APC. I hit him twice, he fell to the ground and his body instantly disappeared down into the ground. I checked my tent, picked up a few valuables that were left and ran off. After 10-20 minutes of looking over my shoulder, waiting for a ghillie suit to spawn behind me. I got kicked again for script restriction #20. I didn't log in again, because I feared, I would log in to face the guy in the ghillie suit waiting for me. I curious to know what script restriction #20 means in order to confirm, whether I'm being stalked by a hacker or if it's just a coincidence and I'm being paranoid. Thanks

Global Ban after Repurchasing Arma2 CO

Did you learn cheating is immoral or just that getting caught is bad?
