Defeats the entire purpose of the game, just like disconnecting to survive dangerous situations.

Dreygar, I'm actually looking forward to the standalone, I'm just saying that the foundation build that will be released in December, wont be mind bogeling different from the mod, but that will be reflected in the initial discounted price. I kind of disagree with your opinion about DayZ's map size. As of now DayZ has 46 unique towns, villages and cities, between these populated areas, we have a web of main roads, back roads and dirt roads. There are fields, different types of woods, hills, mountains, lakes, ocean, islands, industrial areas, castles, military camps and airfields and between all these locations, you have to travel a small kilometer between each. Without it's fields and woods, it's distances, the gameplay would just be one giant killzone like Elektro and vehicles, aircrafts and boats, would be completely pointless.

I'm also currious what you base your assumtions about WarZ being a solid standalone game. Their map Colorado is smaller than Chernarus and so far 60% of it is locked and still under development? To be honest I don't really think the DayZ standalone will be substantial different from the mod. It will be vastly optimized, you'll probably have to rediscover Chernarus-Plus, it's new buildings, inventory system, redesigned zombies, new weapons, diseases and mechanics. However it really depend on whether you already liked the mod and ArmA's general core gameplay design. If you exepct something completely different from the mod, you'll be disappointed, if you expect an improvement of the mod, you'll probably like it.

Chernarus place names and their English meanings...
dallas replied to [email protected]'s topic in New Player Discussion
Great work, thanks! -
We had food/drink/medic options on the scroll wheel, but it was removed because it was impractical. I'd like to see anti-material rifles take up 20 slots or 90% of backpack space..

if i drop my stuffs in the wood do i lose it
dallas replied to 8bith3llvis's topic in New Player Discussion
Never click the drop button, it's a coin flip, whether you "disappear" the item. -
We tried without bandit skins twice already and had KOS accelerate out of control. I'm not against more custom clothing options, even if they can be used to disguise bandits, the way ghillie suits and camo clothing already can.

if i drop my stuffs in the wood do i lose it
dallas replied to 8bith3llvis's topic in New Player Discussion
I thought it was a philosophical question. Never use the "drop" button on the lower right side of the inventory window, unless you're discarding an item. Using the drop button is highly unreliable, items either disappear completely or spawn randomly somewhere around you after 10-30 seconds. If you want to make sure you can pick up the item again, use the < arrow buttons > on the left side of the inventory window. Dropped items usually stays put for 20-40 minutes, but you really should search supermarkets for tents. -
Never count completely on the skin. Humanity is the only thing that carries over beyond death. As a hero. I shoot anyone with a bandit head on sight, as it is our duty.

A little over powered if you ask me.

Zombie aggro should initiate the "combat timer"
dallas replied to sobieski12's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Activate combat timer when you have zombie aggro or when bleeding, a lot of players can't actually survive without disconnecting, it's time they are forced to learn these pretty simple mechanics. -
They are pretty easy to tell apart, the illegal silent version of the M4A1 Holo has an underslung 40mm grenade launcher.
-
M4A1 CCO SD is legit. CCO is a red dot sight. M4A1 Holo SD is not. Holo is an Eotech sight.
-
You get a choice, when you create a new character(when you die). Female skins can't wear ghillie suits/camo clothing, at least not untill the standalone.

The Struggle, My 1st NightZ !
dallas replied to Edgar Allen Bro (DayZ)'s topic in New Player Discussion
Chernarus is an old map from ArmA 2, where few buildings are enterable. It think it has something to do with engine limitations and also because the game used to focus more on large scale infantery operations, rather than close quarters battle. The Afghanistan themed maps in Operation Arrowhead are more advanced and almost every building are usable, but I think Rocket chose Chernarus for it's green scenery, which is more fitting for a zombie game. They are updating Chernarus to Chernarus-Plus in the standalone, increasing the amount of accessible buildings and designing any closed buildings as visibly barricaded. -

Good find smasht, thanks! -
I'm an extreme leftie. However I always used the mouse with my right hand and those left hand options in shooters always weirded me out. In bootcamp a few sergeants tried to convince me to shoot with right hand/right eye to avoid getting hit in the face by ejcted casings. I didn't get that, you're suppose to have your face behind the sights anyways and not infront of the ejector. Fortunately when we arrived at the live ranges our real shooting instructor told us to completely ignore the bad advice. They also wanted me to practice throwing dummy hand grenades right handed, because of the safety mechanism. After throwing a few dummies with my right hand, I was terrified of the thought of throwing live grenades with my weak hand. Same instructor told us to ignore the bad advise again and probably saved all our lives. :) I really hate those moronic shooters, where they mirror the weapons, so the ejecting mechanism is on the left side, so everyone can see their awesome animation.

Go towards more populated areas, for more "fun."

Noone's friendly in Stary Sobor, not even friendlies. Logging in/out in the military camp is not the best idea either, if I saw someone logging in there, I'd automatically assume it was a server swapping loot farmer and those guys never take any chances, so I'd blast that fool, not matter skin. When you started unloading, where you the only one shooting zombies? Maybe they offed you because, you were drawing attention to them.

The Struggle, My 1st NightZ !
dallas replied to Edgar Allen Bro (DayZ)'s topic in New Player Discussion
First off welcome to DayZ, second: Please consider starting a new paragraph every 10-15 sentence or when it makes sense in the text. Massive walls of text are really hard to read, because it's easy to lost track, when you scroll down to read the rest. ;) Good read though and good job sticking with it, learning when to sprint and when not to sprint. The zombies ran to the road when they heard the motorcycle, but because of it's speed, it was long gone, when they reached the road, so they lost track and returned to walking around aimlessly. Emtpy tin cans: In the inventory window there's often a small description of the item and it's use. Tin cans can be very usefull to unarmed players or players with very loud weapons. -
I think it's damn near perfect as it is. Hero, Bandit skins reveals somewhat the motivation of the player, but you can never rely on it completely. Someone wearing a bandit skin could have received it in self defense and someone with a hero skin could have earned it, being a medic for his bandit group. Then you have neutral survivor skins, ghillie suits and camo clothing. No matter who you meet find some solid cover, before you trust them. Killing anyone even in self defense affects your humanity. If you're forced to defend yourself, but don't want to be a bandit forever, you have to make sure you leave populated areas to regenerate humanity after a killing.
