    Reddit - Aug 2012 - Q&A with Rocket

Rocket mentioned he noticed a comment from a deaf DayZ player. I can't remember the specifics, but I think he said, he would be interested in cues for deaf, maybe disabling sound, if you enabled audio cues. So there might be hope for your friend.

    Standalone Poll: First Person Only?

This is not really addressed to Dreygar, because he's most likely a 12 yo troll, because obviously no one on the internet can be this fucking stupid. The first thing you learn about firearms is basic safety, the next thing you learn about rifles is basic ballistics. As soon as the projectile passes the muzzle, gravity starts to affect the bullet. The only thing the bullet does is spinning to maintain stability and that's by design of the barrel's rifling. The sights on a rifle actually points slightly downwards, which means whatever you sight, your barrel aims above. By raising your rear sight, you're raising the barrel, making the shooting arch higher and the distance longer.

Did i just get lucky ?

It's best against other players. Zombies can hear it at 400-500 meters, so if you shoot it too close to a city all the zombies will come running. On the other hand if you set up a position beyond 400 meters, zombies might not spawn in the area, because you're too far away. If you're a bit of a bandit try to set up a sniping position near a populated area, if you see any zombies appearing in the distance, there's a player in the area too. Just remember the 107 is loud as a jackhammer, so you might need to change location after your releaved your position. If you're more of a friendly player, go snipe some zombies in smaller villages or barns, where you only alarm 3-5 zombies at the time and just waste the ammo while having fun. It's not the best weapon for lone survivors, but it's a one shot, one kill weapon.

    Reddit - Aug 2012 - Q&A with Rocket

If you see the way people plaster entire areas with barbwire and tank traps, imagine the magnitude of trolling if people were able to build huge constructions above ground. Btw as for indoors zombies, I'd love them to switch to a frantic unpredictable and flailing animation, increasing the volume of it's terrifying screaming, while still maintaining as slower indoors speed, still making the player able to distance himself from it, but making it much harder to get a clean headshot.
  8. To be honest I prefer playing DayZ rather than watching others play. If I had to chose, I'd chose JackFrags for the way he carries a tune. :)

    Thermal scopes.

I just wanted to prove that bullet does indeed rise, like I was taught by my shooting instructor. Where do you think the first four projectiles went? They passed in a ballistic curve over the 300 meter target, because the first four shots were zeroed at 600 meters. So yes, ArmA does simulate ballistics. You see ArmA's rifles are configured like real rifles, shooting the projectiles in an arch to counter the force of gravity. The bullet doesn't stop it's climb untillit has traveled half the distance to the rifle's zero, right above the targets head. You see unlike arcade shooters, where the bullet is fired in a straight line from the center of the screen, in ArmA the bullet is always spawned from the weapons chamber, which is located slightly below the shooters view through sights and scopes. That's also why you can't rely solely on artificial cross hairs to make accurate shoots, when you're playing in 3rd person perspective, because the 3rd person camera is elevated high above the the rifles line of fire. But you're taking the word simulation too serious, it's just a video game genre invented by the gaming press, so you can tell your COD clones apart from each other. The same way that Need for Speed is different from GTR racing. ArmA is labeled as a "mil-sim," while COD is a "cinematic experience" or a "twitch shooter." If you want hardcore simulation, go by VBS2.

    Thermal scopes.

I just realized, you have actually no idea what you're talking about. Just uploaded, you'll have to wait for youtube to finish processing it, before you can watch it in HD and read the scope's zero. Or you can test it out in the editor yourself. Place a target at 300 meters, zero your scope to 600 meters. Not only will you discover you're overshooting your target, you'll also notice after the bullet reaches it's zenith, it loses altitude and lands behind the target. It's called ballistics, not bullet drop. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rMHGjj5w5U0&feature=youtu.be

One thing I love about DayZ...

The psychology of DayZ, sets DayZ apart from any other shooter out there. Persistency is one thing, but more than that I think it comes down to the openness of the gameplay. Because there's so many aspects of survival, each player develops his own motivation, methods and moral compass. While zombies present a predictable threat, the players you encounter or observe from afar does not follow a specific pattern, they are not automatically against you or on your side. So we have to make decisions based on our cooperate or competitive preferences(humanity) and weigh that against our personal safety and survival.
  13. Well it's moving too fast for any real arguments. :)
  14. lol I have the worst of luck, as soon as I post, we have raced to a new page.
  15. I'll keep this post short, since this topic is moving too fast for long posts. Actually it's the very essence of any post apocalytic tale. These stories are not just about the struggle to survive, it's about how you survive.
  16. Thanks for the edit, I thought I had it under control after 3rd edit, but apparently not. ;) I don't know how many of those 26 million are from DayZ, but I'm glad BIS is doing well.
  17. It's not like we tried playing DayZ without bandit skins and KOS escalated out of hand ...twice. While bandit and hero skins give an indication of the humanity and motivation, nothing is certain. I've seen both hostile heroes and friendly bandits. It's not uncommon that looters and marauders conceal their identity in time of crisis, nor is it uncommon or difficult in post apocalyptic fiction to distinguish between those who shed their humanity completely and those who don't. The stronghold surrounded with decapitated human heads on sticks, might not be the best place to ask for shelter. The group of guys with gimp masks and spikes on their shoulders, might not be a safehaven for female survivors. It real life you don't respawn and you'd need larger groups or warloads to completely besiege a major cities. Surviving witnesses would soon spread rumors, about dangerous areas and tribes. The problem in DayZ is everyone looks the same and no one is tied to a single location. Anyone at anytime can magically snap their fingers, disconnect and change to a parallel universe, where no one knows that they are mass murderers. Single bandits live a dangerous life in Cherno/Elektro, but these towns are a mere 10 minute run away, so getting killed isn't a great deterrence for bandits. Since gear is the only progression, it promotes players to take greater risks, rather than to survive. I can't come up with an alternative, but I'd like to see days lived affect your progression also. Maybe carrying a heavy backpack for 7 seven days increase your stamina pool. The humanity system isn't flawless nor is it realistic, but it works as a inhibitor, forcing DayZ players react as people rather than just as gamers. Pulling the trigger on a person in DayZ has consequences for both the aggressor and his victim. So does returning fire in self defense. I think taking a human life no matter the circumstances, changes you. In DayZ, unlike other shooters, you chose pull the trigger after you weighed the consequences. Anyways both bandits and heroes have the option to conceal their humanity level using ghillie suits and camo clothing.
  18. From the article: "According to Hall, Bohemia has made around €26 million ($33 million Canadian) in profit since the spring." :o
  19. Fraggle has a mullet too.
  20. ^^I guess when you pull the trigger, you release the firing pin, which detonates the primer, ignites the gun powder, which causes the round to separate, propelling the projectile forward, cycling the bolt, extracting the cartridge from the chamber and ejecting it. I think it's reasonable for a sergeant in the military to force a recruit to choke himself if he confuses a clip and a magazine, however civilians have been raised on Tango and Cash movies and learned that a clip is a magazine. So it's all about the context and who you're talking to. No need to get an aneurysm over this.
  21. I can't come to a decision, whether it's broken or just perfect. I thought about a stamina bonuses for surviving, carrying your gear for weeks and blisters for new survivors, but I don't really like the idea of turning DayZ into a RPG with skill points and class bonuses. I guess you just gotta carry on and on and on, you either carry the light or you don't.

    Standalone and Helicopters.

Never really checked out ToH, but I like the idea of real world skills being used in DayZ/ArmA. Map reading, navigating using constellations at night, sun at day. Since the helicopter is end game content, why not force pilots/mechanics to learn the start up procedures and advanced repairs. I prefer flying ArmA choppers with mouse and keyboard, when flying with a joystick I found myself constantly over compensating. Even if the joystick made it easier to pull off tight turns, my mouse felt more accurate, but maybe I just hadn't configured my stick properly. ArmA's flight model might not be perfect, but it get's the job done, I flew fairly well, the designated pilots in our community flew fairly awesome.

DayZ Mod To A Real DayZ Game???

Probably 15 euro. I kind of figure all the DayZ ArmA sales already payed Rockets salary for the next year, all Rocket has to do is show up for work and not get caught stealing office supplies and toilet paper from the office.

    Please Lower Zed's aggro range

Rocket has hinted that the standalone will upset your tummy. According to Max Brooks more people would trample eachother to death, die from exposure and dehydration or shitting and puking themselves to death, before they get their faces eaten off.
