What I have learned in the last few weeks

I agree with all your points, I cannot find anything in your post that offends or outrages me. :(

    My DayZ review

I think you should invest as much effort into learning the basics of DayZ, as you did into writing this post. Whether DayZ is a simulation or a game, you're gonna have a bad time, if you think it's a mainstream FPS. It is not. You're not a floating camera, you're bullets does not just appear from the center of the screen, traveling in a direct line to the target. This is not CounterStrike or some other linear shooter when small areas are patched together with quicktime events or cut scenes. Your play body is a vehicle, you're not going to stop on a dime after a flat out sprint, the more exhausted you are, the longer it takes to steady your aim. You're a full grow person, hauling gear, weapons and backpack, not an ice princess, skating around, crouchjumping with a AS50. Accept this, if you want to give ArmA/DayZ a real chance. There is working ballistics in the game, if you know a little bit about rifles and gravity you're halfway there. You need to learn each individual weapon, when to aim high and when to aim low. When you press fire, the bullet spawns at the center of your weapon, from it's chamber and depending on the weapon, it will travel in a ballistic arc to it's target. So whether you're shooting at extreme close or medium ranges, you always have to calculate at least two factors. At extreme close up, the elevation between your chamber and sights. At other ranges you have to range your target, to make correct adjustments or you have to be very aware of where the projectiles strikes, so you can adjust based on the blood squirts, dust clouds and ricochets. As for breaking you legs in doorways, remove you left mouse button from the action "Use seleced action." Use selected action means, every time you get an action icon on the center of your screen, pressing fire, will perform this action. So if you're standing in the middle of a doorway, aiming at a zombie, there's a good chance, instead of firing, you'll shut the door closed on your legs. Best way to combat hackers is to find a whitelisted server, get whitelisted and enjoy. Any aspect you mention, except hacking, really comes down to learn2play issues. There's nothing wrong with that, most of us here has cursed through our teeth several times, learning the complexity of ArmA/DayZ. If you have a problem with zombies knocking you out, breaking legs, become better at avoiding them or better yet avoid them seeing you. If you have a problem with the distances in Chernarus, improve your navigation skills. How to read a compass, how to read a map with and without a compass, how to use the sun's location instead, how to find north using the stars and how to decode map legends. From all but one starting locations, there's only 10 minutes distance to the nearest major city. However you're required to learn the basic geography of Chernarus to find these places easy and fast. DayZ is what you make of it, but you have only scratched the surface.
  3. You did a lot better than me. Logged in first time. Pitch black. Raining cats and dogs. After 5 minutes standing completely lost on the beach, not knowing what to do, got shot and killed. Logged off, went to bed.

    Finally! I found NVGs!

Key to finding NVGs is to find a crashsite after server restart and keep searching the site, until you've located four(4) loot piles. If you only find three(3), there's still a good chance there's one(1) loot pile left. It's a lot easier to miss the loot pile with the NVGs, than it is to find the loot pile with the AS50. In summary: Three(3) crash sites, four(4) loot piles, make sure you locate all(all).

    What do i do !!!!!!

You should consider this a very cheap lesson in how much you should generally trust people on the internet and how much you should trust people who offers you something too good to be true, simply by clicking their link. Next time it can be your credit card information.
  8. Handgun has a audible range around 40-60 meters. Shotgun around 100. Rifles somewhere around 100-200. Snipers 200. Anti-material rifles 400-500. Machineguns 200.

An educated guess would be so they can get a rough idea of which DayZ community sites to throw some nice standalone screenshots or updates at, so they can help them generate a little extra traffic on their sites.

    DayZ Standalone Discussion

^^Know little about Bohemia Interactive. Stop being an idiot please.
  14. Anyone who demands you disarm and place yourself them fully at their mercy, in a land full of bandits and zombies, wants to do you harm. Either to rob you, kill you or leave you defenseless, when some other bandit accidentally walks by. However anyone one the move, using cover, concealment and try to be unpredictable, makes a difficult target. If you are in a populated area, it's up to you to take precautions so you don't expose yourself to the best sniper positions, you don't take forever sitting still while looting a popular place. If you allow someone catching you sitting still and have clear bead on you, you're asking for trouble. If you're a bandit it's easy, you just shoot as soon as you spot somebody, if you're a hero, you always have to have cover within reach and always be ready to run for cover. Whenever you're in cover you can negotiate on friendlier terms. If you're trying to convince someone you're friendly, while pointing a high caliber weapon at their face, most reasonable people will decide to pull the trigger before you do. In conclusion: Don't be a sitting duck. Don't point a weapon at someone you're trying to convince that you're friendly. Don't allow others to point a weapon at you. Don't let your guard down, because a complete stranger says friendly, friendly! Don't be caught without cover.
  15. Wouldn't this be better served in the bug reports forum? http://dayzmod.com/f.../8-bug-reports/ Right now it comes off more like an instructional video on how to exploit bloodbags.

    Standalone Poll: First Person Only?

I don't know what happened to pc gaming, but it didn't happen overnight. ArmA/OFP have had 3rd view since 2001. If you don't like playing in 3rd person, go play 1st person. If you don't like playing aloen, go play 3rd person. :D

    DayZ Standalone Discussion

Since WarZ has learned a nothing from DayZ, DayZ is now forced to learn everything from WarZ's Steam release. Rocket may have to consider abandoning the term "Foundation Build" and write his darling off as an unintentionally psyops counter intelligence program. I understand Rocket coined the term, but by copying the term without fully understanding it, WarZ has at least contaminated the term, if not directly killed it. DayZ may have to be postponed to allow Rocket to distance himself from WarZ's launch, but mostly to make sure he gets his ducks in a row. The first release of the Standalone has to be perfectly defined and ready to meet gaming media's reviewers and customers expectations. The Standalone's foundation must be stable and must be able to stand by itself. If the Standalone in anyway is shaky or undefined at release, it will risk getting lumped in with WarZ and that would be a disaster.

    DayZ Standalone Confirmed

I guess the holidays have officially started, since the crowd that usually should be in bed by now are up late posting naughty words.
  19. I think humanity work well at the moment. Chernarus is a reasonable limited geographical area, where killers and heroes quickly would get themselves a reputation. However since a player is free to jump around between several servers, you'd never be able to earn a reputation, because the player your meet and yourself can simply disconnect and join a new server and your reputation vanishes instantly. It makes sense that bandits cover up their faces to avoid being connected to their crimes too. I think we'll need continued bandit/hero indicators in the Standalone, but like the mod, where you can disguise your bandit skin with Ghillies and cammies, there's probably be a lot more clothing options to disguise yourself in the standalone. Without any humanity indicators, humanity is useless and without humanity, DayZ loses it's unique psychological aspect and social interactions decrease, while paranoia and hostility goes up. There was a reason why humanity was created and reintroduced, because when there were no consequences of KOS, never players learned that KOS was the only way to play. Without bandit skins, everyone is a bandit.

^^effing word. The curious thing about gamers is that they think playing someone's game, grants them direct access to their soul.

    Humanity Indicator

Giving people an exact humanity counter, invites people to exploit bloodbagging team members. I don't need the indicator to tell me how I play. I play how I play and I don't play as a friendly because I want the badassness of the hero skin. To me the humanity skin represents my reputation as a survivor. A reputation that is impossible to establish because the people I come across aren't tied to my server, like my character isn't tied to one specific server. I avoid killing other players and it only happens at rare occasions. Whether it's a clear case of self defense or a little less obvious, whenever I'm forced to kill someone, I leave the heavily populated areas and take a trip into the wilderness. These breaks pretty much guarantee that my humanity will regenerate back past 2000 and remove my bandit status within an hour or two. I kill bandits I come across in populated areas on sight. My own moral code tells me, anyone found in a populated area with a bandit scarf is not interested in regaining their humanity and should be put down like zombies. I realize that bandits don't wear signs in the real world, but killing and stealing from other people will earn you a reputation for being a dangerous person. Or you cover your identity to avoid getting such an reputation. Because DayZ resembles a MMO and you can instantly shed your bad reputation as a mass murderer, simply by changing servers, the bandit skin makes perfect sense. While we're all surviving in the same geographical location; Chernarus, players exists in several different universes, hwere you might meet a person several times or never again. Humanity skins creates a universal cross-realm reputation, which you can use as a potential indication of the players motivation. However nothing is 100% certain in DayZ, I've had to kill other heroes in self defense and I've come across friendly bandits(had to kill them though, as Ima Hewo). Also it's quite easy to disguise your reputation with a Ghillie suit or Camo Clothing. Some might claim this isn't true and that Ghillies and Cammies are treated as bandits, but when bandit/hero skins was temporarily removed, everyone was treated as bandits. If you play as a killer, you'll eventually get known as a killer, If you play as a hero, you'll get known as a hero. Don't let a piece of clothing decide your motivation.

    Congratulations DayZ Devs!

I believe both are fictional characters, just like Rocket is, in a cynical deception to sell more ArmA 2 copies. :| Also congratulations to DayZ team and Black Widow!
