    DayZ Standalone Discussion

Instead of replying, you simply dismissed it with a snarky comment. Rocket and Bohemia Interactive stoke a deal in Aaugust, making Rocket the project lead and BI the developer/producer. The CEO of Bohemia Interactive, which I just referred to above and you ignored, is actually helping out in development of DayZ and it's reiteration of the Real Virtuality engine. As he's been helping out, pushing out patches for ArmA 2 to address DayZ's growing needs thought out last fall and summer. Maybe you barely missed this, joining up late August or maybe you're just missing out the big picture in general. See we're not on a level playing field here, because you get to make shit up freely, while my shit is at least somewhat connected to what's actually been said on the subject. Maybe if you weren't so busy completely missing all the available information, you wouldn't need to constantly ask for updates. http://www.reddit.com/user/rocket2guns "Standalone is going just fine" "If only half the people buy the game because I've been super quiet then so be it" "we want to make this the best it can be" "That is all we care about now" "Everything else is secondary, release date, profit - the lot." "Marek (CEO) and me both want the same thing, DayZ to live up to its potential."

    DayZ Standalone Discussion

Probably since WarZ released their major clusterfuck, the perception on what you can and should release on Steam might have changed substantially. Probably since Rocket and BI made a deal about the Standalone and BI hired him as lead designer. Rocket probably has close to full creative control in his contract or they reached an agreement about their common vision, at least he hinted at that in his December 20th post: "Marek (CEO) and me both want the same thing, DayZ to live up to its potential." However that wasn't really the point I was making. Anyways if you're assuming Rocket is completely independent, then where no need to assume big corp Bohemia Interactive is holding the standalone back to force more sales of ArmA 2. As oppose to you right?

Yes I actually think BI studios will allow Rocket to do almost everything, but releasing an unfinished product.

    DayZ Standalone Discussion

You got an update 12 days ago and now you're all busy shitting bricks in your rustled jimmies, because clearly Rocket's abandoned his ideals, since he isn't spitting out tweets about his Christmas dinner and publicising a full report about who on this small team is responsible for cheating us of our game. Personally I think it could be Matt who fucked it up, who ruined our collective Christmas, but it could also be the forum moderators, who I know for a fact are trying to get us all global banned, so the big corporation, we know and fear as Bohemia Interactive(owned by the Military Industrial Complex/Apple) can take all our hard earned money and reinvesting it in war and iPhone sweatshops. Obviously Rocket's totally sold out by staying with Bohemia Interactive, who's supported him all the way, instead of taking a fat paycheck from goodhearted industry giants, as some kind of middle manager rubber stamping his name on mainstream products. *breathes* It's also clear to anyone with a minimum set of intelligence, that there's something very suspicious about someone who's been working his ass off in Europe for the last year, taking a couple of weeks off to see his family in New Zealand. Any real dedicated developer, dedicate to his always patient and ever supportive fans, who never blows shit out of proportion, would not only have kept the deadline to matter what, he's also have dressed up as Santa and personally delivered a copy wrapped in paper under each of his loyal fans' tree Christmas eve, not because he wants to be a nice guy or because we deserve it, but because we're actually legally entitled to as paying consumers. *breathes* I lost my train of thought.
  5. An honorable mention goes to all those who claim to be innocently banned, but signed up using their cheat-forum usernames.

I just figure the reason was, because DayZ wasn't ready for release yet. I don't see how a progression report, stating the game is 90% or 94% ready for release, will offer any guarantees for an accurate ETA. Why waste time on hand holding, when no matter what Rocket will release will either be interpreted as: A. Rocket has sold out to big business(Bohemia Interactive). B. Rocket is doing the best he can.

What you want him to say? If he says "soon." You'll say "how soon." If he says "It's going fine." You'll say "How fine." I guess you'll either have to accept what he posted on reddit, just before he went home to NZ to see his family and friends or you can continue with your semantics, about exactly how many words you demand, which wont make a difference, because it's not up to Rocket, but to you, yourself to manage your own impatience. But welcome to the forums, maybe you're impulse control will imrove with time, like ours did.

Will a reddit post from December 20th suffice or you need to been told development continues on a daily basis? Also if you're going to discount everything Rocket says anyways, why the great demand for constant updates? It's there some kind of contradition here?

What is there to say if they haven't got a specific release date. Make one up or post "we haven't got a new specific release date."

    DayZ Standalone Discussion

Welcome to BI games then. I don't know if you noticed what happened when Rocket informed us that he considered the Standalone to be released as a foundation build. 10 days later WarZ announced they had renamed their alpha to foundation and then they released their alpha version on Steam. So DayZ has to be very careful releasing information, because not only will the competition instantly rip it off, they'll do it so poorly, that people will begin questioning the original idea. Well against conventional business wisdom Bohemia Interactive allows their customers unheard access, creating their own user content, instead of forcing DLC upon them. Conventional business wisdom wasn't interested in Rocket's original idea either, because it didn't completely surrender to casual gamers and maybe that's exactly why DayZ succeeded. A rising amount of gamers are so sick and tired of being treated as idiots, they are actually choosing gameplay that challenges their skills and punish mistakes.

Which investors? The mod increased ArmA 2 sales with more than 600%.

    DayZ Standalone Discussion

Here's the information you requested, posted ten days ago: Fair point. This was a crisis that needed attention to enable people to play. Standalone is going just fine, I need to be a bit more careful about what I say so it's less of a crisis situation. If only half the people buy the game because I've been super quiet then so be it, we want to make this the best it can be. That is all we care about now. Everything else is secondary, release date, profit - the lot. Marek (CEO) and me both want the same thing, DayZ to live up to its potential. http://www.reddit.com/user/rocket2guns
  16. One of the great things about WarZ is it completely lacks enough content to require any learning from the player. If you can operate a mouse, you're winner too. DayZ/ArmA however. If you can't use cover and concealment, you're gonna have a bad time. If you can't navigate using the sun's position or the stars, you're gonna have a bad time. If you can't read a map, bad, baaad time. If you don't know anything about shooting, bad, baaad, bad time. If you're not willing to learn, guess what? Yes, you're gonna less than a good time.

    DayZ Standalone Discussion

^^WTF since when did Rocket say he'd push out the standalone, no matter what? I think WarZ has forced DayZ to make perfectly sure, that when they release on Steam, that they don't get their build pulled within 24 hours too. He went from getting back into the industry with a limited contract with Bohemia Interactive and when his small off-time mod took off virally and allowed him to create his own leading position at BI. Keeping up with the raging demands of an ever expanding server infrastructure, massive and ever increasing overload on the hive, throwing out content patches at a very high pace. Then transforming this into a standalone title, rewriting the engine, coordinating animators, modelers and designers. Anyone who have followed development has to have witnessed how Rocket worked around the clock around the major patch releases and wondered when he'd get a minimum 4 hours of sleep. I think the very best he can do is accept that his time schedule was ambitious and reorganize. By allowing the community to take care of the mod, the mod is truly in good hands and the raging demand for an imminent release of the Standalone has faded. Anyone with a craving for DayZ can join a private whitelisted server and fully enjoy the greatness of the mod, with virtually no interference from the hackers, who attempted to bring the mod to it's knees.
  18. Congratulations. Deserved. Now where's our goddamn ingame hat store!

Technically there's ten hours left before the deadline ends, so have the decency and get a hold of yourself. We can't have you break down so close to the goal and if it isn't released tonight, well go ahead and act all entitled about it tomorrow. Deal? Okay! Good.
  22. Clearly Rocket has turned into Bobby Kotick, because he takes time off to see his family between Xmas and New Year. I know I haven't paid Rocket a dime, but I like DayZ, so I think I'd at least entitled to 75% of his soul.
  23. Since the Standalone have missed it's intended target date, 2012, I've gone from wanting it as soon as possible, to wanting them to release a playable and well defined product, so reviewers and players alike knows what to expect.
