  1. Sorry last part was not directed at you, should probably have been more clear. I don't recall any promises of transparency, I only recall him saying, he had to be very careful what he said in the future. Because WarZ through out their entire existence had based their business model on copying DayZ, Rocket can simply not afford to freely hand over his original ideas, because not only will WarZ claim them as their own, they will copy them so poorly, that they even hurt DayZ, You may remember Rocket introducing the term "Foundation" to describe the engine changes DayZ would undergo from an alpha mod to a standalone game. For DayZ this required redesigning the map, redesigning the server infrastructure, redesigning the inventory interface, remodeling and optimizing the zombies, adding new game mechanics, elaborating diseases, infections, damage model and on and on. Five ten days after Rocket used the term foundation to describe the massive changes, Sergei Titov proudly announced that WarZ was no longer in alpha, it was now a foundation. WarZ didn't actually make any changes to their engine, they just changed the title of the build and then decided to sell it on Steam. What they sold on Steam was just their shitty, unfinished alpha build and when people discovered that, their outrage forced Steam to remove the game. Unfortunately the term Rocket introduced to tryto explain old and new customers, what kind of product they could expect, is now linked to WarZ's utter failure and as of December 20-something, the term Foundation now really means: Piece of shit WarZ scamware. So Rocket has to protect his ideas and new features, not because he wants to keep you in the dark, but because he don't want to see his ideas stolen or fucked up by WarZ. As for a new release date, we already seen how well people handle delays and if he isn't exactly sure, when he's going to release the standalone, it makes no sense to make one up to calm people, who'll only get impatient and outraged anyways. DayZ has been a learning process for Rocket. Remember their early estimates were 600 concurrent users of the DayZ mod and then it exploded on youtube and twitch. Rocket has had to learn, that there's a big difference what you can say or promise, when you're offering a free mod and then to transforming it to an in house project and developed as purchasable product. He's openly admitted making mistakes, but it's also been impossible for him to predict, two of his team members, got disappeared in Greece.

He was under contract working on ArmA 3, working on DayZ in his spare time. When DayZ went viral, ArmA 2 started selling like crazy, BI allowed him to work on DayZ full time. In August be BI and Rocket tied the knot and began working on the Standalone together, with him lead.

    Just saw Rocket again.

This thread is too stupid to hate.
  6. Well do you remember when he say it has to out out before the end of the year, then said well the deadline could slide and then people had a series of aneurysms, heart attacks, nervous breakdowns and bricks where shat in obscene amounts, when it did indeed slide. So unless he's clinical masochistic, he's not going to want to repeat that idea in a near future. I don't think we'll get an ETA, until his team and Steam has coordinated about an actual date. Also If you signed up yesterday and to talk about Rocket abandoning the community, you might want to work on your situation awareness. I'm not saying you're not entitled to an opinion, I'm just saying you should attempt to base your opinion on... not nothing.
  7. Called it. Even if Rocket would post, people would still be personally offended.
  8. By "this long" I assume you're referring to 4:36 PM today, when you joined this forum.
  9. Also hope you had a nice holiday, while it lasted.

    Messages in tents.

Once in a while when I find a tent near my own camps, I think of Taliban night letters. I'd love to place a note with my name, with a suggestion about a no loot each others' camp truce.

I'm not sure how either are related to each other, but okay.
  14. It's great for admins to farm their own servers for NVGs. Get a vehicle, travel to the crash sites, restart servers. It's a really really bad idea.

Back in the side chat days I'd usually say something in the side chat, hoping to provoke a reaction, so I would get the killer's name.

Negative, at least not initially. The plan is to release it on Steam first, but there might be an option for the most hardcore fanboys to throw extra money at the team, by buying special edition versions, probably with highrezz pictures of Matt in drag or some Ray Bay aviator shades with Rocket's signature, specially designed to sit slightly crooked on your nose.

You got an update, it just didn't or couldn't deliver what many of you guys demands. So you wrote it off as too little or bullshit. Last official information was that the standalone will be sold at a discounted price for anyone who buys it as soon as it's released. The standalone is a game under constant development and the added value in future major update patches will increase the price for people buying the game later.

    DayZ Standalone Discussion

No it would not, because that's what he already said December 20th. And people were still demanding new updates Christmas eve and if they weren't they were writing is off as company bullshit. The main problem is that he can't deliver what some of you demands, he can't quell your impatience, no matter how many times a day, he posts: Everything is going fine. You guys are also asking for a new deadline and seeing how absolutely terrible you guys handled the delay, which he warned us about long time ago, Rocket would be absolutely insane to tell you anything, before Steam has received the files. You gotta stop driving yourself nuts and try stirring up controversy, just because you can't eat, sleep or think, without Rocket telling you everything's gonna be alright. You gotta kill that entitlement attitude and manage your impatience yourself.

One of these days Rocket will post a new update. And one of these days that still wont satisfy some people.

It's generally a really bad idea to to give out specific release date, unless you're ready to launch the game, because gamers handle disappointment even worse than not knowing.

    DayZ Standalone Discussion

Why ask for updates, if you dismiss the updates as bullshit? I keep offering you whatever little substance on the subject, while you make up shit. We both know I'm not trying to convince you, I'm just offering actually information to everyone else, as an alternative to your made up baseless assumptions. C'mon hit me with another link to wikipedia or an image macro. [Edit] The full quote was "Standalone is going just fine, I need to be a bit more careful about what I say so it's less of a crisis situation." Also when Rocket stood there at Eurogamer Expo, he might not have known the full consequences about the two BI/DayZ developers' detainment in Greece. I don't think many expected them to be held without trial for 115 days and counting. A lot has changed since that video, please don't ask me to do all the reading for you. The standalone was announced early August, everything seemed to go according to plan at the end of September, but in the coming months, Rocket openly began discussing the possibility that his initial ambition could not be met.
