Would DayZ exist without The Walking Dead?
dallas replied to Nefarious (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Rocket2guns said: "It's just basic maths really. Anyone in the video game industry would say the same thing, once a game reaches a certain point - the likelihood of some kind of console port becomes quite high. Cross-platform releases are about maximizing sales. I care about zero for consoles, personally. I have an Xbox 360 they gave me with my tv, I played for about a few hours and it just wasn't for me. I used to work at Sidhe interactive and that really reinforced for me I don't like console GAMES nor the DEVELOPMENT of them. But many people do, so I would personally not have anything against a DayZ console port - although I struggle to see how I would personally be involved in such a development. I mean, I really couldn't care if there was a current gen console port. Anyone thinking my comments constitutes news really bemuses me, it's seems very obvious to me: certain number of sales = console port = more sales?" - - - - - - - - - - "If it was developed concurrently cross platform then yes, it would impact (i.e. Skyrim, XCOM). I would be, ahem, very unhappy with such a thing. But if independently of PC, it gets released on the Mac, iPhone, casio wristwatch, tibetian-ceremonial-balsa-wood-entertainment-drums ... who really cares? 2012 is the year of the PC game, the console manufactures know it, and they need to deliver for 2013 and beyond. We make the PC standalone development the best it can be... and if that translates well to another platform, cool! it means more players, and ultimately more customers." -
Would DayZ exist without The Walking Dead?

The guy who wrote the comic said he only added zombies to get a larger audience for his human dramas. So he just jumped on the zombie bandwagon too. I don't know much about the comic, but I hated the acting, the dialogue and every moment of the series, I wanted all of these morons to die, so I didn't have to listen to all the stupid day time bickering and whining. I always figured if you added zombies to anything, I'd love it unconditionally, WarZ and Walking Dead proved me wrong. -
How about 1st players start congregating on 1st person servers, fill up their own damn servers and stop trying to change 3rd person.

Why even bother with ArmA 3, in less than 5-10 years ArmA 4 will be released.

I don't want blood to necessarily over time, I just want recovery from great injuries to be slower and also a game mechanic that punishes binge eating a whole cow. I wouldn't mind a humanity cooldown on bloodbags also, since it's pretty easy to exploit it to boost humanity, if you have a clan member willing to bleed a bit,

Devblog update: Where is the Standalone?
dallas replied to rocket's topic in Mod Announcements & Info
At least rename it to something else than Designated Marksman Rifle, every time I hear one in actions it sounds something like this: Boom...........................BoBoBoBoom...BoBoBoom...BoBoBoBoBoom...BoomBoomBoom..BoBoBoBoom... Reloading! Boom...BoBoBoom! Unarmednoob was killed by Elitesniper1337 DMR needs a slower effective fire rate. -
Day Zerombie?

Where will you take a dump in the Standalone?
dallas replied to pr3llox's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I'll smear it on ladders. -
Slow zombies only work in close confined spaces, bottlenecks and besieged safe houses. As long as players don't have to rest/sleep for hours and can run indefinitely, slow zombies will be useless.

Zombie vs. infected is a bit like clips vs. magazines, not really that important. Anyways mZLY said: DayZee as in Day Zero, the day you spawn at the beach. Changing the easy to say/easy to remember name of a well established brand, seems like a bad idea.

But a few new sexy animations probably wouldn't harm nobody :) -
Devblog update: Where is the Standalone?

I think the dude got hired by BI to do urban tactical animations for ArmA 3. Could be as easy as turning their head slightly and yell through the office or giving him a call. But those animations are also high-speed-low-drag-tactical-ninja-advanced-operator moves, so I don't know how well they fit in to the narrative of the player being some average dumbass waking up at the beach. -
Consolidated Weapons/Equipment suggestions
dallas replied to rocket's topic in Mod Announcements & Info
I think this thread is more of a quick idea library for idle DayZ modelers. -Baseball caps(various colors). cosmetic or anti-sunstroke/dehydration preventative. -Woollen hats, cosmetic or preventing heat loss. -Ski-masks, bandanas, other clothing items that covers player identity, cosmetic or decrease humanity/reputation loss for murder. -Sunglasses/shades. Atm it's part of character customization, possible world item instead. -

Buying the SA is not mandatory. -
Beans back to you, didn't know about lowering the weapon.
-
Also sprinting is only good for short distances, if you've got a long run jog instead.

Don't even make third-person an option for DayZ standalone
dallas replied to Pomegranate's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I'm a part of a hardcore milsim community already, however I also really enjoy DayZ and 3rd person. What you have to love about vanilla ArmA, isn't that it's the perfect game out of the box, but that Bohemia Interactive always delivers an open and easy platform to it's many different modding communities. And while some communities have taken a very hardcore route, they can't take claim for BI's basic engine, which allows them to mode every aspect of the game, from mission design, creating new models, addons, mods such as ACe or DayZ and yes even the difficulty level. Please don't ever compare Battlefield and ArmA and please don't talk about less choices. Bohemia Interactive and DICE are nothing alike. While DICE says: "Modding is a declingin thrend," Bohemia welcomes you with open arms. ArmA has never been only for the hardcore, it's for everyone, who likes as many features as possible and the level of entry is so low, that anyone can open the editor, drop a unit on a map, press preview and get a basic taste of what you can do with their editor/engine. So I short, choice is always good in ArmA, DayZ isn't ArmA, it's Rocket's concept and for the last ten months, 3rd person view has been a part of this concept. So if he were to remove such important and loved aspect of DayZ, there'd have to be more convincing arguments, than what's been presented here. As it stands, there are expert servers out there, enforcing 1st person, it's up to the hardcore zombie-sim communities to fill them up. Don't force your preferences on me, because you refuse to fill up your own servers. -

I don't really care about motion sickness, limited FOV, I just prefer playing on veteran servers with 3rd person enabled. BI has explained why they have included 3rd person view as a feature in the game, so since it's an actual feature, it's not actually a hack, cheat or exploit, despite your best efforts to label it as such. It's an feature that's been part of their engine from 2001, it's fair feature, because everyone can use it and it's an avoidable feature, because you can select a server, where 1st person view is enforced.
