First day of survival: This game doesn't make any sense to me
dallas replied to Sliv's topic in New Player Discussion
While pressing all your keys, you probably pressed the alt key twice. Alt = freelook, turning your head, rather than your body. 2xalt = freelook toggle. So you should unbind the Q/E turning, because you need to bind Q/E to lean left/right and to evasive roll left/right. As for ladders sometimes turning your back towards them, makes it easier to climb down. Right mouse button does a lot of things: -Hold it to zoom in, works both in third person, first person, with iron sights and some rifle scoped. -Hold also activates hold breath, which makes your aim steady for a short moment, but makes your hand shake after a few seconds. -Click switches the view to iron sights or rifle scopes. -
I disagree only with the last sentence. I played ArmA and OFP too and it has always been more than a FPS game. Third person view has always been part of the game, both in ArmA, but also in DayZ. Remember ArmA/OFP also had command view, so you could play your favorite first person/third person game as an RTS.

If you think it's an unfair advantage, why do you join our servers?

Don't even make third-person an option for DayZ standalone
dallas replied to Pomegranate's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Doesn't really matter if you get sick or not, since when was ArmA/DayZ a pure FPS? -

If this thread reflects the future the browser should be flooded with full [3D:OFF] servers, so you wont need to join our [3D:ON] servers. win/win for everyone. -
Admins that spawn stuff to be "Helpful". Yes or no?

How would DayZ be on the Arma III engine?
dallas replied to DayzForumer's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
It would struggle with some of the same problems DayZ had with the ArmA 2 engine. DayZ is developing it's own branch of the ArmA engine, the same people working on the DayZ engine worked on the ArmA 3 engine, so expect to see some cross contamination. -
Is it possible to section off zombie spawns?
dallas replied to hi team it's me's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
Zombies are pretty easy to lose at the factory, if one follows you into the factory, take it out with a handgun, instead of a Lee Enfield. -
You probably don't have a lot of experience with holding a flashlight steady while running at night. Both because it's impossible and because it's pretty dangerous. My two favourite stories about low light night running resulted in one person running straight into three rolls of NATO barb wire and tore his boots and clothes to shreds, the other ran into a steel bicycle rack and broke his leg in two places. I think the biggest problem is that people are able to bypass darkness by exploiting the gamma slider. I don't mind getting outplayed by someone, who found a pair of NVGs, but if you allow people to easily change their gamma/brightness on the go, you allow players to completely negate the core nighttime gameplay. It would be like allowing some players to turn off zombies at day, to get an advantage in the cities. I love playing at night, but most of my characters are equipped with NVGs, so I kind of miss the whole lost in blackness. We also need the 24h day cycle, because we use time to navigate by. Why go through the trouble of creating a real world, only to dumb it down. Imagine a 2 hour day, where the sun's speeding across the sky like a punctured weather balloon.

I wouldn't buy a new pc yet, unless you're having difficulties running DayZ already. Anyways if they get instancing to work, how about we place your WARSAW pact bunker below Green Mountain?
-
^^Day by day the engine is less and less ArmA and more and more DayZ, also remember the BI CEO Marek dude coding the DayZ engine, also moonlights on the ArmA 3 engine. I saw one of the community polls had an option for people to vote for underground structures and basements, so never say never.

What is the difference between a bandit and a coward?
dallas replied to Ozelot (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
A coward runs. A bandit guns. I'm a bit of a runner myself. -
I've been globally banned. Where do I go from here?
dallas replied to xXJim RogersXx's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives

You're a little bit late to the party, but I still squeeze a little bit of fun out of DayZ now and then.

Don't you wish there was a western map?
dallas replied to CaptGentry's topic in New Player Discussion
If you let the East-European setting turn you off, you're gonna miss out on a beautifully detailed game world. -

Since OP is a 14 year old, who thinks 13 year olds shouldn't be allowed to play DayZ, I'd suggest a 15 year age limit.

Never got into console gaming and never got really comfortable with controllers. When I see traces of console ports in pc games, it always seems to detract from the gameplay rather than add to it. I bought Mafia II, because I loved the original Mafia for PC, but it really lacked the dept, physics and size of the much older original. It felt cheaper, arcade and designed for a completely different audience.

DayZ Stand Alone and ArmA 3?
dallas replied to Bladez 0f Fury's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I'm not sure about the business deal between Rocket and BI, but they are definitely in bed together. I mean when the CEO of BI is part of the project, coding the engine and other prominent ArmA devs are part of the team, I expect some cross over or heavy inspiration. You get an extra point for exact model of the underwear model from ArmA 3 and the chest rig. :)
