  1. Since my community stopped playing DayZ, I'm mostly playing as a one man wolfpack, however I often team up with strangers. I believe the team-skill already exists in DayZ mod, at least that's how I explain the difference between those, who constantly complain about PvP/KOS-mentality and that I very rarely get killed by the players I meet in DayZ. Which skills are important to socialize in Chernarus? I think it's important to be able to use cover and concealment, to move tactically and to be very comfortable around zombies. To socialize in DayZ you must head for the most dangerous areas in Chernarus, the populated areas. To meet other people, you must find them first. It's also a good idea to distinguish between the different players hubs, which ones are competitive, which ones provides best cover against snipers, have the most access and escape routes. You also have to train player encounters, how to survive them, escape firefights and learn how to approach a stranger safely, without appearing to be a threat yourself. Whenever you loot a supermarket, you always have to be aware of where you're pointing your weapon yourself and what the stranger is doing. You have to learn to establish communication, use communication to gauge the other person, to become as asset to him, rather than a weight around his ankle or an annoyance. You have to learn to say goodbye and learn not to embrace and smother every friendly player you meet, learn who to trust and to trust your own instincts. What you're asking for, is already here and it's already some pretty advanced psychological shit.

is dayz 100% PvP on the long term?

Played it for some 47 weeks, murdered max 5, killed 20-30 in what I'd consider justified self defense. Rest of the time, I've survived alone, with squad members and a lot of strangers. I guess it's what you make of it, as Ingasmeeg just said. I mean, what's your motivation for anything, just do what you must do. But just like killing is a skill you can advance in DayZ, so can you become better at meeting up with strangers, without getting KOS'd every time. As of now, people I've exchanged words with in voice, has yet to backstab me.

    DayZ Devblog 15th February 2013

I assigned my binoculars to 2xB and my map to 2xM to avoid accidents.
  8. 3rd person has always been part of ArmA/OFP and also DayZ. ArmA/OFP/DayZ was never only a first person shooter. So the main reason to remove 3rd person, is because people who like 1st person more, join 3rd person servers and don't like it?

I recall Rocket talking about the different design philosophies between him and Marek. I don't know the reasons, but BI used to prefer for animations to play out completely, while Rocket was willing to allow you to break/abort animations.

    Good or Bad?

I attempt to play as a hero. Which means I constantly have to struggle with maintaining my humanity. Whether you're good or bad, you also have to make decision affecting your's and other's well being. When you've been killed, when you've been forced to run for your life or kill in self defense, you natural tolerance towards other players and violence is affected. After killing someone in Elektro in self defense, I saw a player with a broken leg crawling towards the hospital 2-300 meters away and without thinking I shot twice at him and he stopped crawling. I love this game, because some players kill without hesitation, while others kill with regret or some refuse to pull the trigger first. I don't want to tell you what to do, there's will no right and wrongs in DayZ, only what you, yourself can justify. The only thing you should do is think more about concealing your movement and always keep cover close. If you're always moving, attempting to be unpredictable, always close to cover, bandits will often miss the first shot and give you time to place a building between you and the shooter. At this point, you can chose to improve your position and return fire or simply keep adding more objects between you and the bandit, trying to escape.

Unused goals are often turned around, could also be a slip up though. I believe Rocket has stated the environment will be even more challenging in the standalone. This leads me to believe, doors will have the ability to unhinge themselves, attack you through walls and chase you up ladders.

    Just saw Rocket again.

The last batch of shops had me shaking with the silence type of laughter. GJ! Spoken like someone appreciating the finer things in life, such as poker playing dogs.

    Monetization Of Stand Alone

Let's not forget that by last summer the free DayZ mod had increased ArmA's sales by 600% and it's been selling copies ever since. While DayZ mod probably wont guarantee infinite ArmA 2 sales, I don't imagine BI is under some kind of economical pressure to risk using other less ethical monetization models. Recent months have indeed clearly showed that they are undervaluing their quality products, when subpar developers are easily capable of selling inferior products, with no reputation to speak off, no proof of delivering anything near a good as a 2009 game for twice the price. While it's clearly been demonstrated that a segment of gamers shouldn't be treated as adults or trusted with credit cards, there's no reason or need for BI to treat their new or old customers as complete idiots too. Whether DayZ is priced at $20 or 30, we're getting a bargain and I guess sales will dictate which model the standalone will follow. If the standalone reaches similar or half heights as the mod did, it will easily fund itself and the continued development. If we decided we've seen enough of Chernarus, zombies and beans, I guess DayZ will have run it's successful course and Rocket will slowly move on to better things, either on his own or cash in on his visionary reputation, get a corner office in LA, a personal assistant, a 2011 Lexus and developed a socially accepted coke habit.
  14. I think Rocket's previous video update revealed it, when he briefly went into the options menu.

    An accelerated Day/Night cycle

To quote Newt: They mostly come out at night... mostly... Some servers will move the day light hours to the peak hours and others will not. Servers will have peak hours and it make sense that player populations are more active in the day time. I think it's realistic that more common folks will hunker down during the night, while fewer are night hawks.

    An accelerated Day/Night cycle

I think it's a mistake to dumb down the realistic game world, since it's a lot easier to find a watch than a compass. I rely heavily on the sun to navigate with. With a five hour day, the sun will race across the sky in two and a half hour, making it completely unreliable to use for navigation. Before you've moved 200 meters, you've got to make corrections again.

    1st v 3dp - zones

Just play on [3D:OFF] servers buddy. Whether you're in Stary, NWA, Elektro or Cherno, always select a concealed access route. Always keep on the move, always move unpredictably, never sit still exposed. Avoiding accurate sniper fire is not rocket science, just apply some common sense.

I agree with the "what is wrong with you part." :)

Fraps, will it get me banned.

The rumor started because a few guys getting globally hacked, claimed they were only using Fraps, however hard pressed they always changed their story to their friend/brother/cat downloaded hacks on their account. I've been using fraps in combination with not hacking since I started playing in may without any trouble yet.
  23. I made my own macro, I stacked ten coins and taped them together and place them on W.
  24. Since more than 800 people on twitter have already asked for an release date, I'll ask about which new SA weapon is Rocket most hyped about?
