What's up with people wanting to find No PvP servers?

Coop is a giant part of ArmA, but I digress. Greatest thing about DayZ is that it brings players together, who would usually be divided on different servers, playing different multiplayer modes. DayZ isn't purely PvP, just like it isn't purely PvE, which means that the players you meet are unpredictable, as they are driven by as different motivations as people are in this thread. If you purely want to PvP in DayZ, you head for the populated areas. If you don't, then you play in the desolate and remote rural areas. Pretty simple. -
My current character's zombie kill count is 4500, I feel like I at least deserve a special hat or something.

Well it was confirmed that DayZ would build on Take on Helicopter's version of ArmA 2 in August, but a lot has changed since then. The original release December 2012 was delayed, because they decided instead of releasing a polished mod, they wanted to deliver something more. I think at this point, it doesn't make sense to talk about ArmA 2.5, because for the last couple of months they've been tearing the engine a part and people who've worked on ArmA 3 features are now also working on the standalone. I don't think we should expect Greek nude beaches, Iranian hover-tanks or zombie scuba-divers, but I'm pretty sure anything that fits into the context of DayZ and doesn't endanger stability, might make it into the standalone in some shape or form. I believe we'll see a lot of recognizable features from ArmA 2, but I've stopped thinking of engine versions and simply thing of DayZ's version as the DayZ standalone engine.

I understand that although money hasn't exchanged hands between Rocket and I, I've still invested my entire lab rat brain in DayZ and while every little tidbit of information means nothing in the larger scheme of things and by larger scheme of things, I mean the fact the the sun will die out in a million billion years and then DayZ wont matter at all, unless you need the perfect pitch blackness training tool and then suddenly you realize this is not about just a game, but in fact life and death. I don't ask for much, I am after all within reason. -

If you want to play DayZ now, this very moment, get the mod. If you can wait, get the standalone. The standalone has a lot of ArmA 3 developers on the team, if not all of them and the standalone will be a completely different product, designed specifically to make DayZ the best it can ever be. ArmA 3 will be great in it's own right, but with the standalone, the DayZ and ArmA will go their separate ways. No doubt, when ArmA 3 is completed, someone at least as an exercise will attempt to port DayZ mod to ArmA 3, but it will be held back by the same obstacles, which currently hold the mod back. Also there are reserved BI resources for continued support/development for at least a year after the standalone's release. If you're mostly interested in zombie survival, you need to focus on the game, which specifically has designed zombies to be zombies. In ArmA 3 zombies will just be soldiers with zombie hats on, just like the mod.

And that in it's simplicity is how ArmA's difficulty hierarchy works. The lower the difficulty level the more features you have available. -

I just prefer third person view, because it's a legit feature of the game and not a cheat. Calling third person view a cheat, is the same as calling iron sights an accuracy cheat. -

I guess I missed the whole issue, but I've also been stuck back in 1.7.4.4 I think it's great that the community is maintaining the mod, but I also think it's important to acknowledge that DayZ is an established and beloved concept, when you adjust, replace or add new features. I'm still having a bit of a problem with it's current direction and I think those name dropping items feel more like something that belong at a private hive rather than to the official mod.

Crowbar is about as effective as the salute animation, but I don't like sniper rifles much, avoid the DMR, hate the AS50, seriously it looks like you're running around with a Ma Deuce.

As a hero I obviously don't have much love for ze bandits. But disconnecting to survive that's down right low & dirty.

Worries me a bit, but I hope Rocket with his military background wont over do it. Don't want to see yellow flashlights duct taped to double barreled shotgun or other rifles. I think attachments should mostly be top tier military loot or civilian scopes for hunting rifles, mostly I hope a good deal of common sense is applied, instead of over sexed tacticool.

Some people are perfectly okay with killing other players, some people aren't. What amazes me most is not how many that KOS, but rather how many who don't.
