Anyone else think DayZ should switch engines?
dallas replied to SomeCallMeNomad (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
What does yolo holiday even mean? Sounds like you believe dropping $100,000 on a trip to the top of Mt. Everest is something you just do on a whim. -
People buy early access to get early access. However some people think they get early access to a finished game, like a pre-order bonus.

You got something for free and then you started making demands. Definition of entitlement. -

Complete nonsense. Either you got DayZ mod for free or you jumped on the bandwagon and bought a 2009 game to play a free game modification and you somehow thought this somehow entitled you to make decisions for Rocket. Not only did you fail too keep your expectations in check, your entitlement also grew to deranged proportions, where you thought you have some kind of veto right to the development and release of a nonexisting product and Rocket's future career. You paid 0 bucks for DayZ mod. You paid 30 bucks for the standalone. You bought a game, not a person. -
It's a scientific fact that if you drop the price for an early access game, the game instantly turns into a finished product. It's kind of like one of them time paradoxes, if you travel back in time and you meet yourself and both of you are wearing the same underpants, the universe will rip itself into pieces.

If you don't make the effort to report the abuse, you shouldn't complain about it. A GSP should easily be able to go through the server logs, locate the admin commands and determine if they indeed did abuse their powers.
-
I don't know what uneasy overly sensitive people has to do with this topic, just like the first amendment or ten commandments, GSP guildelines are pretty clear, you can kick abusive players and for most reasonable people and overly sensible too racism is indeed abusive. Admins are usually not personally offended, they don't know the color and creed of all the players on their servers, so allowing some 12 yo with a racist name on their server, reflects badly on them and their server.
-
Lesson: People log into almost empty servers to loot military spawns, just like you.
-
Some of my best friends are racists.
-
The original ten commandment stone tablets don't saying anything about server admins being allowed to kick racist assholes off their servers, does this mean that the DayZ server ruleset is an affront to God?

Is DayZ being developed right in your opinon?

Accoding to their FAQ they are undecided on micro-transactions, but I'm definitely not a fan of that, especially not in a survival game. I haven't followed it very closely, but it always seemed like they were pretty up front with their game and I always thought it was just a couple of new developers, big fans of DayZ, taking their first steps into the business by making a heavily DayZ inspired game. It's development hasn't really popped much up on my radar, but I haven't caught them in an avalanche of lies like the WarZ team, who couldn't tell the truth to save their lies or stay on Steam Nor have scores of Miscreated fans flooded the DayZ forums, spamming the general forums with stupidity about how a game will completely destroy DayZ, simply because they saw some ugly screenshots or a disastrous livesteam. Miscreated made a single humble thread in the off-topic forum and posted an updated once in a while, it was their attitude, similar to Rust, that made the big difference. No backhanded self-praise, no obvious exaggerated hype. I'm not sure I going to buy it, but I gave them a vote on greenlight for their attitude. -

So you either thought you could decide that Rocket should cancel a trip, he had prepared for months and cost him $100,000, because he gave you something for free or because you wanted to buy something from him in the future. That, excuse my candor, seems pretty disconnected from an intelligent reality. -
The Current State Of Development - DayZ - Understanding the Development Process

-Sure I remember a young Rocket trying to appease the raging demand for weekly updates and caving in. -I also remember it was argued that sometimes, there weren't anything new and news worthy every Friday. -I also remember that it wasn't important to some, as they said "I'm still working on DayZ" would be sufficient. -I remember thinking WTF kind of hand-holding is this, shouldn't we simply assume they are still working on it? Anyways the kind of access we have gotten straight inside the mind of the lead dev, who's an absolute joy to hear in interviews and in half hour lectures at expos, it's really close to being unheard of. I can't remember anyone, who's been quite as open, accessible and honest about development and mistakes. I have to disagree, it think it's refreshing that we get info unfiltered from the mouth of the man, himself. He's also said over and over, he'd have to spend time briefing the community manager anyways and that he find it important to communicate with the community himself. I really don't want some kind of public relations liaison, when Rocket draws inspiration from us and we get great insight and access. -
Yeps seems like a $4 four day discount trumps a 15 year anniversary. Priorities baby.
-
Don't think you can, check the first thread in the server forum.

Well you can take it or leave it, because I'm not not able or willing to go through the last year's worth of interviews, articles or presentations for something that's common sense. When development started, ArmA 3 itself was also still in development and yes, believe it or not, it made no sense to halt everything and wait for ArmA 3's completion, especially when ArmA 3 was still designed with easy clientside scripting in mind, which is great for the user content ArmA is famous for, but really bad for very disruptive hacking, which DayZ mod was infamous for. So work commenced on the standalone, while work continued on ArmA 3 and while the two engines worked in each their separate directions, developers from ArmA 3, also worked on the Standalone, just like Rocket used to too, which is probably why you see reminiscence of ArmA 3 in DayZ and why innovations for ArmA 3, might also reach DayZ, if it makes sense. -
If I had to make an irresponsible guess, I'd say BI is celebrating their 15th birthday by giving a short discount on their catalogue.
-
I just feel their 15th birthday is a special occasion and that this predictable entitlement backlash is much ado about nothing.
-
I thought it was about BI's 15 year birthday.
-
Then imagine how I feel, I bought Operation Flashpoint in 2001 and in today's birthday spirit, they are offering it for free. It's a slap in the face.
-
True enough BI is 15 years old, comgratumalations! Seriously don't know why you'd have a problem with it? I'm thinking of getting Carrier Command, Take on Mars and Take on Seattle.
-
Why welcome racists on your servers, when you don't have too? You may perform the following actions on your server : Restart serverKick abusive players (harassment, cheating, exploiting bugs)

Here's the link Where I'm saying delaying DayZ for two years isn't an option. -
Thanks for the update, stay safe BI.

Sexy fresh. No it would still be Day Zero, as the day the world rebooted.
