Will Standalone be released this month?
dallas replied to poodude28 (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
1. yes. 2. no. 3. okay. -
The primary focus of the standalone was initially to combat the rampant script injection, made possible by ArmA's very open and moddable engine. If the standalone's mmo structure works and kills off the most harmful hacks: Mass teleportation and insta-kills, maybe they can find a way to approve or allow user content.

Don't get too attached to your amazing loot and insane gun. Bugs happen rarely, but they do happen.

Would explain how you found yourself at the beach, escaped convicts from the Chernarus+ prison island :)

The number one issue my friends talk about is how the game has turned into kill on sight.

Just a heads up, if you don't like getting shot, use cover and concealment. -
Just don't click any links promising pre-alpha keys, you might get pre-alpha hacked. Btw. got an invite myself, but was to lazy to sign the NDA in time :)

DayZ on Consoles? More Negatives Than Positives
dallas replied to RJTurneR's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I kind of thought Rocket's comment about DayZ for consoles was kind of a "water is wet - sky is blue" statement. Something like Ford saying "Sure 2000 years from now, our cars will most likely fly." -
DayZ on Consoles? More Negatives Than Positives
dallas replied to RJTurneR's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
What I find most endearing about Rocket is that being very honest and transparent, often gets him in more trouble, than if he had played by the traditional industry PR rule book. Rocket: "Sure if the standalone succeeds, why not hire some external code monkeys to squeeze a few buck out of the consoles market." Internet: "DayZ for consoles confirmed!" -
After the mounting excitement, which resulted in a major disappointment in December 2012, I decided I needed to manage my expectations better. 1. I know what BI is capable of delivering, pros and cons. 2. I know what Rocket is capable of delivering, pros and cons. 3. Rocket been pretty clear and transparent both about his vision and mistakes. 4. DayZ ArmA 2 sales has probably funded the standalone's development, so they are in no rush. 5. BI's CEO is both invested and invigorated by DayZ's success and have given Rocket full control. I think people's opinions about the standalone is influenced by how they perceived the mod. If you disliked ArmA 2 and the mod, whatever you call the standalone engine build, you probably wont like the standalone either. With both ArmA and DayZ mod, in order to embrace it's beauty, you had to be somewhat forgiving. If you focus on flaws, you will find them, even in the standalone. If you think the standalone will be a completely new game, you're setting yourself up for a disappointment, just like ArmA 3, while sexier, it's still a BI game.

Will DayZ be overshadowed by next-gen consoles at E3?
dallas replied to Stoddy15's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I thought the new xbox was a TV... Consoles and cheap console ports is where the money is, so that's also where all the hype it. I'm pretty sure whatever little information we get from interviews with Rocket, it's substance will compete with the AAA developers. Rocket doesn't follow a script written and approved by a marketing department, so he'll probably to able to speak more freely. -

I think you've become disillusioned with DayZ, I assume you joined this forum because you liked the mod at some point. I don't know if the December 2012 delay broke your heart(hell haseth no furry like a scorned gamer), but you appear to be completely blind to anything positive in any dev updates. I'm pretty convinced you're going to hate the standalone, because you've decided to focus on anything that can distract from your experience and I'm pretty sure a lot of people will enjoy it for what it ends up being, because we're perfectly capable of keeping our expectations in check. We know what we're getting and we're not hung up on irrelevant details. What most people are waiting for, is to see the differences between the limitations of a mod and a standalone version, where the engine has been redesigned to cater specifically to DayZ's particular needs. We're not expecting a groundbreaking different experience, maybe that's why we can't get outraged by fonts, we just want to see the next step in this experiment. We also know this is a product in constant development, which is why many of us chose to focus on that makes this an unique emotional experience, rather than pretending to be outraged over trivial petty stuff.- 912 replies

You might want to get the functionality down, before the designers sex it up. -

Anyone commented on the green jeans yet? If you happened to see me in the 80s you might have seen me wearing stonewash jeans. If you happened to see me in the early 90s you might have seen me wearing black jeans. If you happened to see me in the mid 90s I may or may not have bought a pair of white jeans by mistake. But I have never... ever owned a pair of green jeans and I can tell you right now, I wont be wearing any green jeans in the standalone. -
How would you react when Standalone is.....
