Stupid, beans for stupid :)

To be fair I saw it on another forum and have been whoring it out all over the place. ;)

Don't run in straight lines?

If you stand still in any highly populated area in Chernarus, you're seconds away from being sniped. Someone camping a roof is completely immobile and as long as you place buildings and object between you and the always obvious sniper positions, the sniper is going to have a real hard time at getting a bead on you or leading you for enough time to take an accurate first shot. If you're standing still in Cherno with a good view to all the hillsides and tall buildings or enjoying the view on the middle of the runway at NWAF, you're exposed to so many long range hideouts, no matter if you're on a first or third person server, you'll never spot that sniper getting ready to kill you. In order to stay alive in DayZ, you have to stay moving and keep thinking about your surroundings. Don't be a sitting duck.

Ninja'd by KingOchaos. A few basic safety rules can easily be applied to DayZ. Don't place your left index finger on the left mouse button, unless your sights are on target. Don't aim your rifle at friends or at strangers, you don't want to provoke into a firefight. Lowering your rifle will also work as a safety measure, if you press fire in a lowered position, you'll only raise your weapon and first then you'll be ready to fire. Possibly you can also place your magazine in your inventory and just press R to chamber a round, obviously the reload sound will alert other players around you.

Or tell her to continue playing in third person, like the rest of us.

First or third person, if you stand in the middle of a field without any cover in sight, you really deserve to be shot.

Playing in a group of more than two-three can often slow things down to a grind. I often played the mod alone and did very well. You're at an disadvantage, when you get yourself in trouble, getting sick, hurt or attacked, but on the other hand you set your own pace and it's easier to get around undetected. Since you're only relying on yourself, you have to be willing to learn on your own, because one of the advantages of playing in a group is the information sharing. There's a lot to learn and it's important to learn to increase your survival skills.

I just don't see he having that option available, without facing a WarZ level backlash.

But you, who prefer to play on first person servers, want to have to both ways too. You want to play on first person servers and dictate how third person servers are run. How about you focus on filling first person servers first, I mean clearly, there's apparently enough of you to do so. Unfortunately Rocket can not remove third person view. He knows removing third person view is a deal breaker, because he knows players have been expecting and demanded third person since it was introduced in Operation Flashpoint in 2001, it was always a part of ArmA 1, 2 and 3, part of the DayZ mod in 2012 and was also a feature in 2013's Standalone and Rocket is not going to remove one of the largest components of 414,081 sales. If he starts removing features from the game we bought, clearly promised in screenshot on the sales page, he's going to have a major headache, he don't need, on his hands. There's already a perfect solution, but if first person players wont even play on first person servers, why the hell should third person players have to?

Before we remove third person completely, how about you guys prove you're enough to fill up five-ten servers first?

What I think the night should look like;
dallas replied to victusmortuus's topic in General Discussion
To see at night, you need either moon light or artificial lights. The moon has a mind of it's own, it's not a static object in the sky, it sets and rises and it's usually covered by the Earth's own shadow. DayZ has a realistic lunar calendar, sometimes the moon is up, sometimes it's not, sometimes it's full and sometimes it's new. When you don't have access to the moon and you don't have street lights, because street lights run on power and power plants shut down in minutes or hours, if left unattended, because the plant's workers have developed a sudden taste for brains, then you're left with star light. You can use the stars to find north, but star light is too weak to distinguish objects and features on the dark side of Earth. You can see when the star sky ends and where it meets the pitch black Earth and that's it. In order to use star light to see with, you need a night vision device, that enhances star light up to thirty thousand times. -
DayZ is a MMO grindfest, which means you have to spend a lot of time in the engine and while the Real Virtuality engine is many things, it's not the world's most perfect first person engine, which is why I can't play long sessions in first person and I don't have to, because Real Virtuality is a pretty good third person engine, so I get to enjoy my character's model and animations as it occupies and interacts with Real Virtuality's large and beautiful world. I know this comes with a price in combat, but since I'm not much of a bandit, I hardly ever engage, I usually disengage and break off contact. I know that I'm exposed to corner peakers, but I also know that concealed mobility often can render a sniper's position useless. The sniper sets up a killzone, but a sniper reveals his position at the first shot and if you're moving tactically with cover and concealment in mind, a sniper has a very limited window to take the first shot. A sniper, who have positioned himself in a sweet spot will rather let someone like me pass and wait for a fool, who decides to stay static for enough time for the sniper to recite the first two verses of the Lord's prayer, range the target and calculate the mildots, before blowing his head off.

All polls on these forums have not been very convincing, however back in DayZ mod's prime, using the 1st/3rd person server filter send a pretty clear message, that 95% prefer third person servers.

I'm not sure I follow you. Are you arguing that third person view is a bug or that our ghostly infected is a feature? Me, I'm arguing that both first person and third person have always been an integral part of OFP, ArmA and DayZ and that OFP, ArmA and DayZ has always allowed server admins to enforce first person, if they so chose to. We also know that they in large scale haven't chosen to and we know that people, who fantasize about having third person view removed from the game, by and large choose to join third person servers, instead of filling up first person servers.

If rotten bananas could one shot other players, you'd see a lot more rotten bananas wielding maniacal psychopaths.

We just past 400.000 copies.

Dslyecxi clearly added a lot of passion and nice footage, but he really didn't add anything new to the discussion. I just can't see, how you can remove a feature, that's been part of the gameplay since OFP, since the launch of the mod and now since the launch of the standalone. Whether you like third person or not, it's not only popular, it's also a legit part of the game.

Hacking must be prioritized before combat loggin and server hopping. I think a mmo style 30 second log out timer would be fair, plus an insta-kill for wounded, handcuffed and fighting characters, who disconnects. Similar killing off characters, who visit a certain amount of servers or certain loot hubs in a short time.

You really need to prove you can fill up enough servers to justify separate hives. I just don't understand, why a player, who prefer playing in third person view, would gear up on a third person server and then switch to a first person server to engage in combat. Easiest place to gear up has nothing to do with camera view, but with player count, so night servers and first person servers, would be the preferred servers to gear up on.

I consider what you're doing a valuable community service. Be proud and carry on! :)

Should it be easier to keep fed/hydrated?
dallas replied to Clumzy (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
Just because you eat just enough to remove the warning, doesn't mean you're full and if you're not full, you'll quickly grow hungry again. Stay ahead of your thirst/hunger. Don't eat a little to remove hunger. Eat a lot to prevent hunger. -
Just chose a kickass avater and no one will focus on the name. It's not like Dallas is a super awesome name either.
