Everytime you join a server with an aceface, you proudly announce your entrance with an annoying error message for everyone else.
-
-Pay attention to the Ear and Eye icon on the right side of you UI. -Walking tall, sprinting or walking on loud surfaces, makes it easier for zombies to detect you. -Always move crouched, walk crouched if you are near zombies. -If you alarm zombies, you either have to run or fight. -If you run or fight, you might attrach other zombies. -Decide how you want to deal with strangers you meet. Avoid them, shoot them, take cover and challenge them. -Mistrust other players and avoid them, unless you want to team up with someone. -If you team up with someone, you have to take a leap of faith. -You have to attempt to determine who's legit and who's deceiving based on their movement/chat(almost impossible) :) -If a companion is in anyway mocking you or weirding you out, find an oppotunity to shake him off. -Keep your inventory balanced, not too much ammo, but enough to clear a building or two. -Learn to navigate with/without map and compas, google the big dipper star constalation to find the northstar(north) at night. -Learn to read the map, when you find one. -Big cities and airfields has lots of loot, this draws in playerkillers and conflict.

I'll need 10k upfront and 10k when the job is done. And we never meet, got it?!

Any chance for being able to play as a girl?
dallas replied to Lady Kyrah's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Long story, another game. Guy makes a friend. Friend gets annoyingly clingy. Player tries to avoid new friend. Player tells new friend to leave him be. Players notice new friend hiding behind rocks and buildings, stalking him. Player puts new friend on ignore. Stranger whispers player, asks why you ignore your friend. Player tries to explain. Stranger says new player says you're his girlfriend. Player says I'm just playing a female avatar! Player is accused of deciving male players. SWTOR forums: So, I made a friend! ...yay? -
^^or desync Took a look in the editor and the walls look too thick indeed. My guess would be through the door, with the dead guy ghosting on teamspeak, but I can't tell anything for sure.

Where did most of the rounds missing you impact, on the floor or on the wall? You could have been exposed to the closed door or have been visible between the gab in the stairways above you. I spotted a bunny zombie covered by a door earlier, but since I had a .45, I just put one through the door. Concealment doesn't equal cover. Think surfaces provides little cover if someone is standing on the other side with an assault rifle.

Why this mod is the best thing to happen to PC gaming
dallas replied to jagdfalke@gmail.com's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I think of it as a small scale next gen mmo(ssngmmo). -No quests killing 8 orcs or collecting 15 rat tails. -No orcs, elves or squareheaded humans. -No 1234 rotations. -Not fantasy, not sci-fi. -No micro transaction vanity pets. -Leveling, experience, achievements, abilities are self-acquired or taught by ingame skill trainers(other experienced players) and not just some skill you unlock, buy at a trainer or a +2 stat bonus to map reading. Your achievements are based on your successes, your luck and courage, rather than becomming Master Sharpshooter Sergeant Of the Pwnt Degree from headshotting 9 players, while performing a 360 jump off a moving object. -
Couldn't watch it all, cried a little.

I really like the way it is now, where if you haven't got a hunting knife or matches, you have to rely on other players to cure severe wounds. I often see people in side chat asking for help with blood transfusions and often receive the help too.

MERGED: Booby traps, Explosives and IED's

It only takes a couple of satchel charges to bring down entire buildings. -
Real players never fade. GJ

As much as I dislike bandits, I think the shining KSK skin is a severe punishment. The Guerilla rifleman looks great, would be a great skin, if they could only use backpacks.

A perfect example of anti fun banditry
dallas replied to Survivalist (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
"DayZ - Average Life Expectancy: 4h 43m" Survival is the name of the game, people cooperate to survive, but this doesn't mean they cooperate with everybody. You're already wise enough to stay clear of Cherno and Elektro, but you need to add Stary Sobor to that list. -

Are people more hostile, or friendly?

Even friendly encounters can turn fatal very very quickly. -
After playing the game I have a few suggestions.
dallas replied to MR DELICIOUS's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I don't agree that military gear spawns should be cleaned up, so you automatically are granted 1 gucci weapon with 2 complementary magazines or NVGs just for showing up a specific place. If you're desperately low on food, you might go to a village to look for food, but there's always an element of unpredictability, you could end up with alot of empty tin cans and bandages, no matter how red your hunger icon is. I still think any gear spawn must have the random trash percentage to make sure even the most patient gear farmer comes under pressure. I carried an AKM with a single mag for a long time and when I found it, I had a hard choice to trade in my Enfield and all it's ammo. If the AKM automatically spawned with two magazins, it would be an easy choice. Finding a military issue rifle comes with a predicament, do you prioritize stronger firepower, better sights over ammunition availability. Although your assault rifle is more deadly than a winchester, not only do you have to conserve your limited ammo, you also have to worry about jealous eyes from desperate strangers. -

-Some people just wants to watch everything burn. -Some people just wants to hug everyone/everything. -
3rd person view was here to stay when ArmA was called Operation Flashpoint and the year was called 2001. Servers have had the ability to enforce the difficulty level they prefere to all players on the server. If you don't like 3rd person view, find a server that blocks that option.

Big list of tips. Share yours.
dallas replied to MR DELICIOUS's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
-The sun rises in east and settles in west, around noon it's positioned due south. -Use the constalation the Big Dipper to locate the north star and find north at night. -Pay attention to the ear and eye icons on the right side of the screen. They indicate how much noise and movement you make and if zombie near by will detect you. -Make it a habit always to move crouched to reduce audible/visual noise. Run crouched if you're fairly comfortable with your surroundings, walk crouched if you hear zombie moans or spot one. -Moving prone makes you very hard to detect for zombies. -Moving couched will tax your stamina and affect you aim and accuracy more than moving upright, but if you stay undetected you don't have to shoot very often. -Surfaces have different noise levels, stay off asphalt roads or move on them carefully. -Winchesters and Makaros are makes less noise than most other firearms. -
New to DayZ and forums hope to enjoy the mod with everyone.

Yup! Got any beans? BANG! -
I really hate joining the server in the afternoon, looking at the watch on my wall and thinking **** only a couple of hours daylight left, then again I also really love it.
-
LOL and behold!

I got PK'd once at the beach and understood that while the beach was fairly safe from zombies, it wasn't safe from other players. When I respawned I got off the beach as quickly as possible.

"March 17. Pwned nub at the beach with my thermal scoped m24, took me 3 minutes to run all the way down there to loot and t-bag his corpse. Sleep well dear diary." Cool idea, would be like a killers guestbook.
