What to do with exploited gear
dallas replied to [email protected]'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I'd say it's reasonable to take a legit weapon, but I think I'd rather destroy their whole camp, than gaining an advantage from using their weapons. Using illegit weapons on the other hand, I don't see a difference between spawning them and picking up someone else's hacked weapon. Especially when you should know better. Search for C4 satchel charges in their tents, park the vehicles close and blow that shit up. -
I defenently hope DayZ will return to a survival oriented experience, rather than a oversized counterstrike session.

I still have no problem with being killed by bandits. I'm just saying: Remember a couple of weeks ago' date=' where it was possible to meet a stranger, who didn't automatically murder you on sight. Where there were a chance that the survivor you meet looting a supermarket with enought loot for two, wouldn't instinctly shoot on sight, you'd both get what you needed, exchange a few good words and each go on his merry way. You heart was still racing, because bandits and random murderers still existed back then, but it wasn't guaranteed that every encounter would be a lethal one and sometimes a little trust/humanity was rewarded with a nice little moment of friendliness. Back then it was still possibly to meet others, who were actually more interested in survival, than murder. These days new players learn to either shy all human contact or KOS. Pure PvP was never the fascinating aspect of DayZ, just like pure PvE wouldn't be either. It was the confusing mix of both modes, where coop and competative players would interact, to combat mistrust or to abuse trust to backstab and murder. At this point there's is only mistrust and rampant killing, no use for direct chat, other than to shout obcenities, before killing or dying. The only social interactions are clans/communities on external voice programs, killing anyone but their peers on sight. Whether the reload bug is fixed or not, there's still any more assault weapons and piles of ammunition, than boxes of matches in Chernarus. If you want to live off the land peacefully, it's easier to kill someone for their survival equipment, than to try to find it yourself. Well the murder rate seems to have reached the celing, since everyone KOS and yes at the moment killing is pretty much everything the mod has to offer, but it wasn't like that a couple of weeks ago.

It's just my experience that anyone I meet either flees, shoots or disconnect, because they expect I kill on sight like everybody else. If everyone KOS, new players assumes that tactic after their first attempts of being friendly. If everyone KOS, it can hardly get much worse.

Respawn - Do you want to ?
dallas replied to [email protected]'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Don't worry it only happens once. If it happens twice, you deserve it. :D -
Satchels are legit, we found a handful in a camp, 2-3 satchels should be sufficient.

DCing from snipers, snipers complaining.

Camping is legit, disconnecting like a bitch to save your gucci gear isn't. There's playing DayZ like an evil sniper, killing sitting duck players. Then there's play DayZ like a kid with training wheels on, hiding in the lobby. -
Maybe. Defenently, maybe.

Many servers have time settings included in their name, some servers change their timezone, so people joining in the evenings can experience a few hours daylight. Some server have delayed time a couple of hours, others have reversed the day/night cycle. These servers usually have UTC+3 or UTC+9 included in their server name.

Whenever you log in, pay attention to your bottom right corner. You'll receive a shot, one second hint saying something like: Chernarus Kamenka Day 4

I remember respawning without any weapons and after a long search I find a an Enfield with 10 rounds. I pick it up, knowing I'll soon put it on my back for a less loud handgun, but at the moment, I felt great relief: A rifle and 10 whole rounds is alot better than nothing at all. However what felt like a great treasure, soon became trash because deer stands are full of assault rifles and ammo.

First murder was in Polana's supermarket. As I ran along the glass front, two Cz550 rounds bounched off the ground too close for my liking. I hid inside the the store for close to 10 minutes and when I tried to exit, a guy with a M4A3 quickly took cover by the backend of the supermarket. I retreated and we waited eachother out, listening for footsteps, dancing back and forth between the backrooms and the store. Finally I opened a backdoor, threw a smoke just outside and hid while the horde of zombies covered my footsteps, when he entered the backrooms, I shot him in the back. 5 minutes later I made a run for the hills and instantly came under heavy fire from two shooters, one with a Cz550. Do I know for certain, if that the guy I killed was part of the group in the hills trying to kill me, my instincts and conscience say so. I barely escaped, but survived. Killed two others, we had hunted down for murdering a friend unprovoken. Killed two others for stealing our vehicle. Killed two others, one of them three times, for killing two group members. Killed two others for killing three of our guys in a supermarket. Killed two others while being trapped on a roof. Fired a warning shot and asked them to identify or leave. They didn't, they tried to flank me and died. Killed one guy shooting at me on the roof of the office building in Elektro, right after that I shot a guy crawling prone on the road towards the hospital and killed him unprovoked. He was no threat, possibly was looking for morphine to fix his legs, but I felt a rush from defending myself and when I saw him, I raised my winchester and thought: "I can make the shot, I can make the escape, fuck it!" I regret that last kill.

SepticTank I am playing in a pretty large group already. I just remember a couple of weeks back, where some of the strangers you meet, wouldn't attempt to kill you on sight. I've got no problem with player killing that's what makes this mod interesting, however pure PvP isn't. I'm not advocating for PvE servers, I'm just trying to implement a reason, not to automatically kill other players on sight. Atm there are no difference between survivors and bandits, because there's no reason to assume anyone except your tightknit group of friends are friendly or have peaceful intentions. Sure a fully loaded Enfield is still very dangerous, but there's a difference between having only 10 rounds and carrying 60-80 rounds and additional 50-100 rounds for you sidearm. With 10 rounds, you might miss a shot at a moving target, you might have to save a few rounds for the zombies you alert, also are you going to waste 10% of you ammo killing someone with half a makarov magazine? Right now I'm rolling with 153 rounds for my Glock, decided to ditch half off my 800 rounds for my mk48 and I'm constantly passing up even more ammo. Bandit skins weren't perfect, bandit heartbeat isn't either, I'm just looking for what the bandit skin did, providing a small incentative to not kill everybody instinctively. Sure some players will still kill everyone on sight, just so they don't have to search for bandages, beans, ammo themselves or just because they have a spare round or an axe, they are not going away anytime soon. These players will continue to make an interesting challenge, when you're trying to determine whether the stranger you meet is reluctant to fight or a murderous bandit. I'd just like to suggest a tweak to ammo availability and assault rifles, where you have to manage your ammunition as a limited rescource and not get handed bucket loads of ammo, while matches are nowhere to be found. To see if it has an effect on player killings and average life expectancy. Sure more people will get killed by zombies, but maybe that gives them another reason to band together.

I tried to train about 30 zombies into a barn, exited the back door and blew a satchel charge inside, only got five of them. :(

Always keep near solid cover. If you meet someone, who doesn't shoot on sight, communicate with them from behind solid cover. Ask them switch to rifle and to lower rifle, do the same. Exchange a few words, while having an object between you. If you're looting a store, ask them if there's something specific they need. If it develops into a conversation, it might turn into a short partnership. The key to the partnership is to be really generous with the loot, give advice to new players or take it from experienced players. The only thing you have is their word and their voice. If you sense they are mocking you or are overacting as new and clueless, you should keep some solid obstacles between you. Try to part ways with them, break line of sight and make sure you cover your six, while making your escape. If they turn hostile, break contact or take them down.
