Because bandits often miss their first shot, which I consider an open invitation to do a good deed for humanity.

On a 225km2 map you can't really blame people for sniping and there's alot of ways to avoid snipers or atleast become less of a sitting duck. Sniper set up where most players congregate. It makes absolutely no sense to cast your spiderweb, where there's no flies. Snipers, like predators are drawn to wateringholes, where there's most traffic and where their prey are forced to enter their kill zone. If you absolutely must enter Cherno or Elektro, keep on the move, do not cross open areas or move in a too predictable manner. Keep cover close and change direction constantly, skip through alleys and turn every corner. Inside the city, be constantly aware of tall buildings and the surrounding hills. Exiting cities, search for concealed escape routes, treelines and terrain. -
Three digit square = 100x100meters. Two digit squares = 1000x1000meters. Go into your options, filter infantery controls and assign a key to "GPS toggle". Then you can switch your gps on/off and watch it, without using the map.

Shooting everything you see isn't realistic...

It's not about not being able to handle dying, it's about missing encountering survivors and experiencing a tense moment, figuring out whether he's a survivor or a bandit. Even back in the bandit skin days, you couldn't rely on survivors being friendly or murderous, but atleast there were a chance. I can chit-chat all day long with my clan on TS3, but we might as well disable direct channel, since noone has any reason to interact with strangers anymore. Before there were mistrust, now there's only hostility. -
Was the game better or worse with bandit skin?
dallas replied to zalman's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I think the people who prefered to double-cross other players and did not want a consequence or an incentament to not automatically shoot on sight, considered it a penalty and unrealistic. Other bandits wore the skin is a badge of honor and embraced the challenge. -

Raw meat in a deer stand?? Bizarre

I roleplay as a cannibalistic bandit hunter ingame and I often use deer stands as bait. You probably found some of my fat bandit leftovers, go ahead, I'm full already! -

At the moment there's no reason not to kill anyone on sight, so everyone does it and those who don't, have to be extra careful. You used to be able to meet a stranger and talk to them, worrying they might kill you, but these days, they simply kill you, before you can ask friendly? Try to avoid other players or atleast alway put some kind of solid cover between you and always keep an escape plan in mind. An escape route, is the quickes way away from danger, with as many object between you and the hostile player. Players can't aim very accurate and run at the same time. So if you break line of sight often, they'll either have to chase you or risk losing sight of you. Look for handguns in civilian houses. Stores, two story red brick buildings or long brown houses. Look for hunting rifles and axes in barns and stables. Hunting towers, known as deer stands are found in forrest treelines, near open fields. They are often guarded by a few zombies, but you might find military rifles/shotgun/LE handguns.

In reality shooting left and right at everybody is probably the quickest way to get yourself killed. If you don't hit instantly, people often get pissed off. -

Another cool thing about bandit skins was that even if you were a complete massmurder on one server, the skin followed you on all servers. So you couldn't just kill everyone and magically switch to a parallel universe to restore your reputation. -

I disagree, it's exactly what it is, a showcase of who's humane and who's not. The worst will reveal themselves, while others will have to struggle with keeping theirs. At the moment the aspect of humanity has dissapeared from DayZ. Humanity is the key element in these end of the world as we know it tales, the struggle to survive, the struggle to stay human and not just become a zombie with an AK. Right now the complexity is gone, there's only: Who's the better killer. -

The cool thing about the bandit skin was if you shot someone in selfdefense, you risked getting hunted yourself and would actively have to avoid survivors to return as a survivor yourself. -

Most of people come together after a natural disaster, while others loot, murder and rape. There used to be a balance with the bandit skins, now there's only KOS or hiding. -

With the removal on any consequences, DayZ players have gone completely feral. It's like being in a small sandbox, trying to build a nice castle together with a parkinson's patient with a attitude problem. -
#6 Avoid strangers, untill humanity gets reintroduced and matters.

Was the game better or worse with bandit skin?
dallas replied to zalman's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
After the removal, the survivor skin became the new bandit skin. There's pleanty of rescources to go around, people aren't murdering other people because they need to, they just kill others to pass time. This is not authenticity, when dying means nothing, killing means nothing and living means nothing. When average survival climbed from 30min to 33min, it was suppose to be a major statictical abmormality, well it's back to 31min again.
