DayZ standalone... Wait for it, or buy now?
dallas replied to stefan_s's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Here's how it works: If you've just spent a good chunk of money on a decent gaming rig, there's probably alot of games you want to test out on it. If one of them is DayZ and you've got an extra 20-30 bucks to burn, you buy ArmA2: Combined Operations and install the free mod, knowing you paid $20-30 to play a buggy and hack infested alpha mod. Having said that I don't play on US servers, have never seen a hacker. Whether you buy ArmA2 or not. In a couple of months, fall or early winter, the first working build of the DayZ standalone will be released. This will also be buggy and this will require you to buy an alpha game-key to play it. The standalone will come with a major discount, it wont be free, but if you buy in early, you'll probably only have to let go of 9-12 bucks. Each time the DayZ alpha standalone received a major update, the price will increase and when the DayZ standalone reaches it's final build, the price point will probably be close to 20-30 dollars. However if you bought in early, you'll be able to use your 10 dollar key for the complete 30 dollar game. I know it sounds too good to be true, like a Nigerian game developer, but this is what's known as the Minecraft payment method. So here's the deal. DayZ standalone will be released in 2-3 months, but it wont be completed this year, maybe not before next summer. But the price will reflect the level of completion. Cheap in October-November, full price near June-July. While you're waiting for the DayZ standalone getting completed some time next year, you'll either be able to play the early builds of the standalone, if you buy a key or cantinue to play the free mod for which you bought ArmA2: CO. Disclaimer: These are only facts in my own imagination, maybe it's close to reality, but the timeline might be a little scewed. -
How do you survive for more than a few hours?
dallas replied to ZePlague's topic in New Player Discussion
When I spawn, I only have 1 bandage and 1 flashlight to lose, so I play a little more reckless. Since you've already learned to handle zombies, I'll skip that part. When you loot Cherno and Elektro, you have to keep on the move. If you stop to loot, present as little a target as possible and learn to pick up items fast. Don't stay in a building for more than 30-60 seconds. Don't sit or stand in the open and when you move follow walls and change direction at every corner. If you meet someone armed, run for it, if someone shoots at you run for the nearest cover and then run for the next cover. Players can't shoot and run at the same time. So as long as you keep moving and keep placing solid object between you and the shooter, you can create some distance. Keep moving untill you lose the shooter and any zombies you've pciked up. If you get some basic loot and survive the first ten minutes, start heading into the country, get some distance to the coast and the major cities and see different parts of Chernarus. Travel in the woods and along tree lines, never travel on roads and watch out for open fields. -

lol did you just earn 500 zombie gold on the WarZ marketplace for pretending this is bad news and extra 500 for casually dropping the WarZ name on the DayZ forum? If you keep up the spam, you'll soon be able to buy some WarZ NVGs and top tier weapons! -
Everybody paid for ArmA- Hey buddy, unlike you I bough ArmA2 at release, paying full price. I also bought Operation Arrowhead, I also bought BAF, I also bough DMC. I might buy ACR. I am going to buy ArmA3 And I am going to buy DayZ standalone. I don't expect Rocket to work for free and I don't think I deserve the standalone for free. But if anyone deserved DayZ for free, the $ I paid versus whatever little you paid, I at the very least deserve it more than you. You paid $20, how many hours you squeezed out of DayZ by now. DayZ is a mod for the actual game, I hate to be the one that tells you this, but whenever you're playing DayZ, you're actually playing ArmA2. If you don't think you're getting enough value out of your game, don't waste anymore. :)

RE: Private Hives and 'The Rules' - (Update from Rocket inside)
dallas replied to Anton17's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Private hive using DayZ forums, I see what you did there. -
I don't think there are designated loot locations, just a circular trigger, where 3-4 loot piles spawn. That's why sometimes, the loot is below the helicopter and some mistakenly think they are accessing the helicopters gear menu.

The great thing about ArmA is you can mod it like crazy, to such an extent you can create something as awesome as DayZ. Hopefully the great thing about the standalone is you probably wont be able to mod it like crazy, making it harder for hackers. -

By being a standalone, DayZ can change the engine to it's own needs. DayZ no longer have to worry about breaking regular ArmA mechanics, while fixing DayZ mechanics. The minecraft model: If you buy the first buggy build, you get it for 9-15 bucks, price increases at every update, when game is complete, you'll have to pay full price. When I bought my Mount & Blade alpha-key I paid $11, when the full game shipped for $30-40, I could still use my $11 key. -
Why nobody will be buying Day Z standalone
dallas replied to Revilo's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
OP's right, BIS: the new Activision. Rocket = Bobby Kotick. -
Crashsites spawn 4 loot piles in a small cirle around the helicopter. These piles can be anywhere close around the crash or below it. Depending on the surface around it, some piles can be very hard to spot. Try crawling to flatten the grass or generally sweep your view around on the ground, while you scroll your mouse wheel.

Your wildest dreams! Great news. Congratulations to Rocket, BIS and ourselves. -
When I come across a camp with evidence of duping, I empty the tents, save the empty tents and destroy the tents. Tents will be useless untill next server retart and then they will respawn empty, I like to think I'm doing God's work.

Better luck next time. :) ArmA's flight model takes a little time to get used to. The most common cause of accidents is overcorrecting due to lag. IMO best way to land is to lose altitude while maintaining forward speed and making sure you don't break so fast, the helicopter shoots up to an altitude of 200. when you get closer to the ground, you can still bleed off spead, without gaining too much altitude. Also keep a little forward momentum when you land, a soft landing at 15-25 kmh, you'll slide to a short, soft stop. If you come to a hover before you land, you often risk a see-saw backand forth or side to side, trying to correct/overcorrect. Engagin auto-hover will both throw any forward motions, into an upwards motion and any corrections, you make, the auto-hover will quickly try to eliminate, making even minor adjustments, potentially dangerous.

When you press gear holding a handgun, player model point it upwards, but lowers at the slightest movement. I'd defenently like to see a lower/holstering variant for the handgun.

To Rocket and the team, cheers to a great achievement and things to come.

How many of you would stop killing players if there were achievements?
dallas replied to hazedaze's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
ArmA's and DayZ's achievement system is real and personal achievement system. You know: "Yay I learned how to understand map legends and navigate using the sun's location, the night sky or a compas." "Yay I wont this firefight, because I used cover and concealment, set up my ambush, took accurate shots and killed the fool exposed in the open." "Yay I learned to live off the land, hid my camp in a remote area and it haven't been found by other players for more than a week." "Yay I hit a moving target with my Enfield and shook off 47 zombies in Cherno." "Yay I looted NWA/Stary and lived to tell about it." Other games offers achievements, usually because gameplay is so dumbed down, they have to create artificial achievements, level ups, weapon unlocks and headshot messages, so they players can pretend to be 1337, even when the game is holding them by the hand in every aspect of the game. -
You can't get unbanned, no matter how nice a guy you are. When you hacked on a battleeye server, you litterally killed your own game ID.

What's your coordinates? Ocean is a little vague. -
Works for me, but I had a short while yestarday, where it didn't work. No idea what fixed or broke it.
-
The ultimate price is $30. The good news is you can buy a new copy for $30 and play again. The bad news is you have to buy a new copy for $30 to play again.

Well done!

Place tent. Wait for server restart. Store items and save. Should work.
