I'd vote for that, quit IRL (I might have a few or a cigar on weekends with drinks) but if i could have it my way I'd walk around with on of those smouldering sticks of shit hanging out of the corner of my mouth 24/7. We definitely should have that vice in our virtual world.

I'm even happy if I can bleed out far enough away they can't "confirm" their kill.

The Enfusion engine and script they're building DayZ on is going to run their flagship ArmA's next version. Yes they'll finish DayZ and it's going to be awesome, it will never be "done" and continue to grow for 5-10 years after release.

I honestly think until they get to a point where players life span is worth something and we need to work together all gear should get ruined on players killed by other players to remove incentives to work against each other but that's just me. I play immersed in the "world" constantly have that shat on by people who log on and try and get as many kills a easily as possible in a short play session like battlefield or COD even though there's no one keeping score or leaderboard. I've walked back to the coast geared numerous times with a spare vest, waterbottle, knife, etc. trying to find a random freshie to give a head start in the game and have never once had it work, they see my Gorka coat and SKS and want to punch me out for it. I look forward to vanilla getting to the point of weeding out players looking for a shooter or just grievous gameplay.

I'm paraphrasing a bit but saw a very official statement on this recently to the effect that 1. They don't care because they removed the loot and there should be no reason to be there. 2. They're not fixing it now on legacy systems because it's already fixed or planned to be fixed by the new systems replacing the broken old ones that allow it.

Yep, i think the developers vision of predators is more gamey than realistic. I live on a large Island that could in it's early days and still to a good extent produces it's own supplies for it's population, agriculture, forestry, etc. Even after 200 years of civilisation it's still 80% forested and largely habitat to all types of prey and predatory animals. We have bears, they're small like 300lbs tops and they run from any sign of man provided you don't get between a mother and her cubs. We have cougars (mountain lions) and they unless sick or old do not even show themselves let alone get into a fight they don't feel they have a 90% or more chance of winning. We also have a wolf population, I have heard them off in the distance as long as I can remember at night but in 38 years I've never seen one. I've seen tracks a few miles from the house I've lived in most of the last 30 years, but never seen them, why? Because when the island was settled the shortsighted wolves saw sheep, cows, and chickens and were like "awwww, yeah! easy food" until they figured out the smell of man and metallic clicking sounds he made were followed by death bringing booms and bangs, Darwin and generational wisdom being passed down took it from there. TL;DR The wolves of Chenarus would have been "trained" for generations that man=death, the only threat they would be is if you were clearly to them already on deaths door or unconscious. Predators don't make opportunities they observe and take them when the odds are good.

They're already using something like that in EXP as their "Dynamic AI" system although it's not necessarily only sound. I suspect it's the players network bubble and possibly static infected's awareness of the player that triggers the dynamic AI to fill an area when a player is present. I've used something similar in Arma2/3 and it's good and transparent when set up right but as it stands now it's kind of hit or miss, too slow spawning/activating and deactivating additional AI. Did a test at NWAF from off in the distance by logging out and back in, there was eight to ten infected as I approached initially on foot. I log out and back and there's only two infected the others spawn back in over a few seconds as the game realises I'm in the area. Without sounding too negative I think they have their work cut out for them balancing server performance and high infected counts with the max players they're shooting for.
-
I know, that was an attempt at humour.
-
They showed an autumn shader or mask in a recent status report so I would guess that system could do snow dusted trees. I recall something form quite awhile ago about no dynamic snow though, i think? I wouldn't expect to see any big environmental changes or variation until we get the upcoming graphic overhaul, player controller, and beta either way.

Permadeth isn't an annoyance, it's a core feature/concept for this game. If my character has been alive for months and I make mistake (not bugs) I want that to have real consequences and hope there's never account based modifierers improving all created characters in the vanilla game, either way there'll be mods for everybody.
-
A million times no, This isn't and Elder Scrolls or Fallout game and would be so repetitive with the permadeath concept. There has been a mention of a getting better by "practice" system to add value to a character lifespan which could be good or bad depending on implementation.

I believe local servers and lan are on the list, if not I'm gonna be pissed because that was my main reason for buying the game,
-
It'll be fun to even watch if they start with fifteen or whatever like they did when trucks first came out. I wish them the best of luck with vehicle desync and all that.

The damn helicopter.

Thanks, Why does the DayZ PR team think it's in anyway helpful to share bits here and there on different platforms like a social media princess. Putting it all in one place like the "official forum" would be so helpful for people who dot want twenty "food pic sharing" apps on their phone and limited time some mornings to check the news.

Wolves seem to target the head, any hat will block a few hits. Without one you're dead in one or two hits.

I spent most of yesterday at one of the new checkpoints. The bug still seems to be there when I made rags without room in my inventory the rags would stay for hours (forever) in the spawn point of the items. I'm assuming this is the same as the ammo box paper plugging spawn points at tents. I ventured our and ended up off the end of the runway at nwaf so u scoped eight to ten infected, I disconnected and logged back in to two with the others slowly spawning back in. Repeated this three times. They need to add a despawn delay for random disconnects and the fact that if I do that and the don't despawn I know someone is there. Has two friendly encounters one was starving art going to meet emuthreat, the other was just a random who also wasn't looking for trouble. Told him where my stash of crap from the tents was from trying to loot cycle before I scurried off to watch him with my binoculars.

These map changes will bring back NEAF era emptiness of the west.

I had the chance to log in quick every couple hours today but not really play any extended amount of time. I logged into the same server a short distance away and looted the same camp every hour or two, there was maybe six items on a fresh restart going up to a dozen or so after a few hours. It was a rotation of tent stuff jackets, vests, guns, ammo but never enough to instantly gear up a player at any one time. I cut up sweaters into rags with a full inventory and the rags stayed a long time, even through a reset. New items were added at the reset. Those tents are going to be no fun on public with hopping and whatnot. -
Seems like a lifetime ago bouncing a baby boy on my lap at my desk playing the latest and greatest car action shooter game. One of his first sentences... "Dad, can I play the game where Barack Obama steals cars?"

I bought two copies for the EA discount confident in getting a 5-10 year sandbox to dick around in if vanilla isn't my cup of tea, don't forget BI's awesome editing and modding support.

Oh, you said EXP was unplayable. I think stable is a giant piece of shit right now but I could still play it if I wanted to, poor choice of words maybe?

Not sure I stay moving until the rain stops or I start a fire if I'm not wearing a waterproof jacket, switching to waterproof a water proof jacket while wet will slowly dry you out. You have the debug meter in your top right, you can see if your temperature is ticking up faster than your health blood are coming down, when you have hypothermia you die fast but can bring it back depending on how bad you started or it's progressed depending on gear, and if you have a heat source. **edit** some of the EXP regulars have a bit of a "swim club" and could maybe chime in a good explanation of "waterproofness" and insulation. Heating food and canned goods in a fireplace or on a stick and putting it in your inventory works killer for warming up or staying warm if you have to get wet as well.
-
I've previously been able to maintain a stable temperature in anything other than a t-shirt and keeping moving. I even laid freezing and drenched in the rain this weekend in a Gorka coat and warmed up and dried off without a fire.
