I was wondering the same, never played the mod but have 2000+ hours in the .60s version of SA and coming back after a year the new infected are a treat playing solo PVE on my home server, granted all my deaths in my recent 20ish hours are legit mistakes on my part and being mobbed, I haven't been in any of the glitch situations I've read about. Their sensory range seems a little short at times but they feel more alive than ever giving cues of their awareness zig-zagging flanking attack instead of the oh so predictable straight line to your face. Back in the .60 playing with even my youngest kids we could clear a town from the outskirts without breaking a sweat by dropping the two closest ones with a "three two one" snipe and then shooting the oncoming conga line.

You stuck it out the whole time? There's four or five guys specifically I see missing who loved the game and did the lions share of actual testing, not just whether guns kill other players, and one moderator who seemed like he'd take a bullet for the game. Whatever pushed them away should say something to management, they spoke for hundreds if not thousands of quiet but dedicated players/paying customers. In all honesty I don't care how the public game turns out, I bought it because of the sandbox capability of previous BI titles, I'm definitely salty how slowly the toys are being made available for what's finally starting to look like a real good sandbox to play in. Did I hear correctly they're still talking a year or two until it's "finished" I wasn't scared of years when I got in because of how ArmA3 took so long to mature but was very playable even before Zeus and the 3d editor implementation. I was figuring DayZ was building up the tech (possibly a parallel project) to be used in ArmA4 and would move faster towards a somewhat complete WIP. I'm sure they'll come through eventually but some of the carrots on a string we were chasing just got put on longer and longer sticks it seems, wheres my fucking helicopter?
-
What happened in the year I was out, nothing? Not surprised but when I heard it's 1.0 I was expecting to come back to every piece we got to play with in the .60s plus a helicopter and hazardous environments like NBC and radiation. Literally couldn't believe temperature and basic diseases aren't even implement right now and seeing what the console kids have to say about needing M4s and their superiority "wrecking" people, guessing they've been gone awhile? A bunch of good dudes I never actually played with but chatted daily about science with are missing and that says a lot about BI dropping the ball on us.

Server and client on separate machines and this is playing like I've always wanted, I got sidetracked exploring and now I'm grinning ear to ear after surviving a glitch free zombie slaughter at Balota. :) Aside from the few hiccoughs getting getting up and running and the the slow (re)implementation of features some of my faith is restored. That being said, it's sad to see all the faces missing from the good ole days here? Looks like BI pissed off and pushed away even the die hard supporters with their slow progress, shit communication, overzealous goals and lacklustre effort into giving us what they were showing us?

I moved my server to a second PC last night, logged in and seemed to be a huge improvement in performance just looking around at my barrel camp. Turns out the server was actually using 3g total so when my client got up to 4-5g I was totally out of ram and using HDD to make up for it, splains a lot. Going to go run around lower Cherno looking for oil and a jerry can and see the difference.

You need to switch your server to EXP the same as your game, mines working fine now. **didn't see you solved it, thought we talked about that in general earlier this week?**
-
In public servers, I did not, that concept has an extra partial chromosome if you ask me?
-
So in theory they can go back in time before they took an M4 out of a barrel or tent into their inventory to a time when the M4 was still in the barrel, possibly rinse and repeat? Cute.

Okay, found out what I wanted about the new server features. Still get corrupted binaries in a crash, did a power button shutdown, server can't proceed trying to load the persistence files. It does back up of the last six hours in half hour steps, my folders were created in the first six hours I ran the new server, the timestamps on the folders confused me about when the binaries were from. just delete all the files in your main binary folder, drop the .bin files from any rollback point, there's less files in the backup folder but fire up the server and and it remakes the other files. It's a good workaround for the problem but if you ask me there's all kinds of implications having this available to clan home servers? Can a rented server owner already manually make and reload a backup on public servers?
-
So I've started running my own home server just before the patch, started Sunday I think, didn't really root around the folders but casually. Was going to look at backing up my persistence and try a few things and low and behold there's a back up folder already there, apparently my server backs itself up every half hour or so and is holding 12 incremental copies of the persistence files from yesterday evening from 1741-2341 my time. I left it running all night rebooted to make it day time this morning and ran it all day today and it's created none since about when I went to bed last night. I'm going to mess around with rollbacks and possibly deleting or moving them to see if it's a limit of 12 files or whatever later tonight. Interesting stuff for sure but the first thing I see is I think I can undo my screw up yesterday night, any thoughts on this?
-
Cool pretty sure I know what folder that stuff is in. :) I avoided a back up because it feels like cheating but I can see the game isn't really ready to "play" fully yet anyway and science isn't cheating. With my arrangement I can even crash my server on purpose probably just by opening 100 browser tabs or something.

Come on bro, trying to get back into this and that just made me sad considering how business are run these days. M4s on the beach and bullets galore and call it Fortnight2? I could see it going that way, lol.
-
I've been out of the loop with bugs and I'm playing on a closed in home server now so no tampering with my science at this point, anything I should be looking for? I'm placing every tent and barrel I find and hoarding base building stuff right now, not really sure what I'm going to do with it besides build myself way-points around the map to make travelling easier and do zombie safaris when the kids visit.
-
Poor wording I guess, I doubt they're considering things like changing the feel of the input to make it feel more comfortable for players used to twitch shooters at this point, I hope. Been screwed buying a game and having development go ninety degrees on what I was sold before too, I think that was me trying to be positive, lol.

Not complaining guys, yes I'm currently playing on a broken laptop made out of two broken laptops plugged into a TV, I also play just fine my way at down to 10fps so... The game has had leaks in the past, seems like one now because my mem usage doesn't seem to always go down leaving the "problem" areas anecdotally, I'm just noting my performance on a machine that is to the low end but within requirements.
-
This X10 for the guys with high end machines. My old junkers are like old boats and mine is showing signs of a leak and I feel it, that could totally be set up specific to me, could be broken code. If it's a leak BI pls fix, if it's my hardware, that's on me.
-
That might be a more of a feature actually, BI games usually feel clunky and burdened to simulate gear weight and situation instead of being a terminator robot that can turn and change direction on a dime. If you care there is a suggestions forum but I don't think and developers read it it's just for venting because the road-map for development is pretty set in stone as far as I understand though.

Yes, I was being cheeky at that point. I've had a PC for over 30 years, parents wouldn't let us have a Nintendo so I got used to gaming with wasd and mouse in my formative years and don't have the fine motor skills for a controller, TBH. Cool thing about DayZ now on PC, I can run my own server and client on one machine and just play the way I want in my own little world now. 😉
-
Yeah I suppose getting called the n-word or incessant your momma jokes from 13 year olds has its charm, not my cup of tea though. **pinky finger extended snobbishly as I sip**
-
As far as the guys with good graphics cards and ram usage, not sure if things have changed but the game used to run better on those machines with the graphics turned up if anything putting workload on the card rather than the CPU and ram? I'm still tracking my RAM usage and this is a creep up and looks a lot like a leak not a genuine load from the ram doing actual work.

Cute, no butthurt here princess. I don't have to play with you console plebs anyway, thank god. You asked and I answered your question with the facts of how the game was intended to turn out versus what you saw as development progressed, I've been around for awhile. I did add my personal feelings about COD and Fortnight rejects trying to turn a survival game into twitch shooter when there's so many already on the market. My opinion but emotionally indifferent seeing as how I have my own server, pew pew away in console land fucker. You seem butthurt if anything with the "help me I want it now" mentality because you suck at actually working for stuff and not getting an easy answer? Maybe got lost in translation?
-
Look at my post count and join date, it has been getting better for a long time, the duping we had in the "good ole days" was ridiculous. One thing I've learned about BI is it takes them years and years to dial a game in. Not sure how it works on consoles, but you'll have the age old cry cry about "how hard they worked" for stuff resisting wipes when the biggest complainers are the ones not wanting their exploits taken away. If you're intending to play the game as it was intended community servers are where it's at but again not sure how console servers work.
-
Used to. There were never meant to be enough of them everyone could just find one except for in various testing versions of the game, it's a survival game not a military shooter game. I'm on my own PC server all by myself and have seen one KA-M in a tent at the small military camps in 12 hours, as it should be. Not sure how X-box works as far as modding but PC will have modded server for for dummies who need an M4 to pew-pew away on maybe you guys will too?

Thanks for the lesson on the evolution of computers, I get that I have ten total gigabytes minus two for my video giving me eight gigabytes ram usable. There's a big difference between something using my memory and it it leaking, shouldn't have to buy a better PC to compensate for broken code. Last run of the night, got into a tussle the same place I died with my oil as a freshie and died, in the process of alt tabbing to check ram my task manager stuck in the foreground. I exited the server and was at 4.5 and climbing at the home screen logged back in and headed straight for no where to see if it would tick down, nope in the woods jogging or standing it just kept ticking up for no reason until the game started getting unresponsive. This client has a memory leak, on my system anyway. left the server running all night and it's great about 1.5g used and 1500fps with no players, lowest I saw with me in was 500fps and 1.8g. Now something nice, loving the look and how it plays before it crosses 4g mem usage, stating to get back lots of the features I loved and missed. Really seems to be turning into the sandbox I wanted to make my own "Cool, everybody else is dead, now I can have some peace and quiet" simulator I was hoping for.

Did anther run at it, searching around in the row houses and industrial park in Cherno I could only go a half hour or so before it started lagging my client enough to get a battle eye kick 5.5-6g. I found my 3 oil and Jerry can and screwed off to my tent to grab the last needed jug of oil, running the highway between Cherno and Elektro ram usage steadily dropped back down to reasonable. Not sure if it's the infected AI or something graphic related, going to pause and check in different areas as I go now. Went to try the 12ga slugs on a seemingly lone infected mid mission with no idea how many more that was going to pull, got clobbered and lost an evenings work finding the oil and jerry can, pretty intense lesson and "oh f*ck" moment, kind of missed that experience.
