Sanity Check - Does ATLAS Bipod exist in 0.53 stable?

Found a damaged one last night.

    Fix V3S control bug

I found a dead guy outside a police station with a running truck yesterday (shit gear), got myself getting in a day or 2 before. I had a bad habit of opening the door, starting the engine as the getting in animation was happening, and then closing the door once moving. It was way to easy to fumble "get out" instead of close door.
  3. An update on the vs3s hill climbing, fixed. It seems to hold speed down hills better too. Back to testing ;)

This is probably how DayZ was ment to be played! - DayZ essence

Nice to see not everyone is a psychopath or COD kid, I play solo but enjoy a bit of interaction and the tension those situations cause. For the sake of immersion I don't believe any sane person would just instantly kill everyone they come across in this situation. I can't imagine allot of the new spawns that fake friendly then jack you have a very long lifespan nor care to unfortunately. My longest lived character who'd survived the most got killed by a con-artist while trying to be a nice guy taxing bambis off the coast but I'll still keep putting my neck on the line for the ones who aren't a piece of s*** in human skin.

What the hell no servers ? [Wednesday merging thread]

Shortly before this thread goes cold? Seriously when they updated games in general they usually try not to be too specific about when it'll restart because shit happens and message board form lynch mobs fast if they're 30 seconds late making an eta.

instaghillie, SKS and "in hands" items

7.62X51mm is the NATO/North American spec. .30 caliber long round or called .308 and being used as a place holder I believe until they put the 7.62X54R in the game. The by X51mm would also go in a Remington M700 when/if added and the X54mmR (R for rimmed) would go in a Draganov aswell. The X54mm should be a Russia military spawn as it's used in light machine guns and sniper rifles as well as residential where it would be used in sportsterized obsolete mil weapons like the Mosin.

instaghillie, SKS and "in hands" items

Is it a bug or unfinished/unbalanced loot tables that make the 7.62X39mm rounds almost only spawn in military areas? I noticed the NATO caliber rounds come in brown boxes and the Russian rounds come in printed commercial looking packages. I was actually surprised to see those boxes that looked like Wolf brand fancy non-corrosive primed $15-20 per 20rnd boxes instead of the milsurp you can get for 15-25 cents per round in bulk. The icon for the loose rounds look like surplus green enameled steel case rounds though. I've never been to Europe or specifically any former Soviet republics, are the SKSs and their clones readily available as surplus? They go on sale in the $200-300 with a large can of brown box surplus ammo here in Canada if you shop around. Around here they're used by rural folks and aboriginals for deer hunting or as a louder, cheaper, "cooler" alternative to a .22 AR clone ($400+) for recreational popping off at beer cans and propane tanks. The DayZ map looks allot like where I live and I am genuinely curious if that part of the world is culturally the same with "rednecks", "hillbillys" or whatever you want to call us.

2b) the SKS or Zastava M59/66 is a crudely mass produced semi and not very accurate past 100yds. It loads and ejects (violently) vertically. My profile pic is the first time I shot mine, I got pelted in the head by the shells ricocheting off the the tin roof at the range. You more or less have 3 options for scoping them. As mentioned the PU (and other kits) requires drilling and taping the side of the receiver to mount a rear hanging bracket that holds a short eye relief scope, usually small and low powered. There's a kit to mount a long eye relief (pistol scope) over the gas piston ahead of the bolt/breech also small and low powered. The third is a kit that fits a rail and shell deflector over the bolt that allows any type of scope to be mounted so you can have a clear magnified view of you shots landing wherever they decide and makes loading via stripper clips impossible and single loading tedious and difficult.
  9. I thought that's what the the weapon swap lag was there to simulate, like when I'm all sweated out at work and my hands start "death gripping" tools until I pry it of withe the other one. That's actually why I drink so much Gatorade because I have some electrolyte deficiency that causes muscle spasms and cramping.

    Ballistic helmets are too effective

I'll add that a requirement of the 7.62X39mm when it was designed was to be able to pierce a steel helmet at 1000m when used in volleys of indirect fire. I did some ballistic tests with my sks and had no problem with 1/4" steel plate and over 20" of Douglas Fir planks layered on ones that tumbled, right through a 3' thick stack on ones that didn't. That's standard Russian manufactured copperclad steel core ammo against a flat surface though, glancing hits, hollow-points and soft lead hunting ammo are different.
  11. I though you were ideally supposed to drink something like 8 liters a day? I don't drink water because fish f*** in it but I routinely drink 4-5 liters of "sports drink" just in between the time I get off work and the time I get up in the morning pounding a whole 750ml bottle after using the bathroom 3 or 4 time a night on my way back to bed even. That's over 14 or so hours though so the game requirements right now seem a bit much though.
  12. Yep when you see a hill hit the pinky power button until you crest.
  13. As far as I've read the VS3 is just a placeholder for testing vehicle mechanics and desync issues with passengers at this point. I agree though, at work we had an olllllddddd semi tractor with a crane for a yard truck and even stuck in high range if you put her in 3rd and dumped the clutch on pavement she was 0-50kmh in about 10feet. If you look closely at the model for the VS it has a front diff meaning 6 wheel drive, it should have no problem with any road hill and most if not all off road terrain in game. I'm not sure how many gears the VS has in real life but I only hear 1 maybe 2 gear changes in it's current automatic version so maybe they'll add more gears or fix the ratios.
  14. Considering I can split knotty wood our 3 Ton hydraulic log spitter won't with a 10 lb splitting maul by hand I'd say an axe is up there.
  15. I did a 350lb net drop test from 50 feet yesterday, the engineers who came up with the test claim the impact of the 350lb test weight is over 10,000 ft/lb on impact. Any bullet even a .22 on impact is also well in excess of 2 tons/sq. in. which is a "point load". You can run an AK over with a truck but if you point load the stamped receiver you're gonna bend and bind something, same goes for a scope tube.

    Some people never find 1.....

Not sure if you knew this but the "sprint" key works in the truck at the expense of +25% fuel usage. If you can get a run at a hill and get up to 40kmh or so they'll pull most hills not to bad.

    How was your Day(Z)?

I've been doing allot of truck hunting and driving the coast looking for bambis to taxi somewhere helpful as kind of a personal mission/experiment. Today was the day found a little town with a well, and everything for basic survival and even a mosin and bullets. Loaded with 4 pumpkins in my drybag and one in my belly I set out inland. Next town had a bright blue VS3 and this was supposed to be a friendly server would be worth a try running a taxi. First fare, Black jeans and T, east of Electro got out at the police station thanked me and scurried off to scavenge. Second (almost) fare In his underwear runs in front of and under the truck at 80kmh, sorry. Third fare and without stereotyping... Gets in between electro and chermo says he doesn't care where so I take him to balota airfield because I want to find a chest holster and bullets for my magnum. He runs off looting so I think my nicely parked (backed in) truck is safe for 30 seconds... Nope carjacked, ran over, looted and laughed at in comms. Fool me once...

    Some people never find 1.....

I've had really good luck with them even finding 2 in two days before the update and maybe a dozen after. The best was when I found one in Stary after hitting a dozen possible spawns. I drove for the west end of the south coast to do a lap of the continent and pulled over at one of the gas stations on the coast highway away from any towns to try fueling from a canteen. I was so focused on getting my gas tank beside the pump I didn't immediately notice the 2 more trucks that were discarded in the gas station parking lot. I moved all 3 together for a screenshot before the server reset, logged out and went to the store for some sports drink. All three trucks were blue which I though odd but whatever, I logged back in and "mine" the one parked at the pump was gone but the other two were still there. I hopped in one of the other ones now full from the reset and continued my drive around the coast. as I wasn't hurrying I made it half way up the east coast and pulled off onto a side road and parked to grow some zucchini and drink before the next reset. Log back in and everything is as it should be so I carry on full tank and a good idea of the fuel mileage now I hit the highway "turbo" button on and go. Just shy of Novodmirovsk right in the middle of the highway is what I'm guessing was my first blue truck door open, engine off. I'm kind of new and been avoiding people the most part but these little signs sure go along way to make the world feel alive. How do you put screenshots on the forum anyway?

    Helmets vs certain calibers

I believe I read the gorka helmet cs stop a couple pistol bullets an melee knock outs with the visor.

    in defence of FOV slider

I play on a WSG rig and and play 1st person only, having this slider in game once was nice. I look at my feet open the menu and slid it in and out until it gave me the same view I have when I stand up (IRL) and look at my feet. I set it so I can see my collar and my shoulders in my periphery, closed , done. I guess I should remember what I set it at if they change this. As far as exploits though what do people think of the fact that Walmart had a sale on 32" TVs, I bought 3 and have 180° fov in 1pp? I run along the treelines and such at 45° and can see "over my shoulder" behind myself with a flick of my eyes just like real life.

    Is direct communication (typing) working?

I had one time before I got my mic working where I was asked to identify myself so I typed it. The guy shot me then read my typed message and apologised profusely. \ definitely works but whether they read it in the heat of the moment is another thing.

    DayZ Vehicles (first implementation)

The VS3 has a hatch for a pintle mounted MG above the passenger seat. A 12.7mm or an aoutomatic gernade launcher for the guy riding shotgun would make climbing a hill less scary.

    zombies do what?

I'm still pretty new but have about 150 hours in the last 2 weeks. I noticed a big change last update as far as them hitting/moving through walls and doors and over great distances in the open. Also there's either no zombies or ALL the zombies in any given area.
